I know this isn't necessarily a free app but the ESPN app on Apple TV is the only one that allows you to have a quad box and this is a great feature during college football season. There are times during the season when there will be a good game on ABC and on the main ESPN channel but then I want to peak in on my alma mater which is a FCS school so it's only streaming through their ESPN3 network. I like the fact that I can put the three games up and then go in and out of each game to full screen depending on commercials and if there is any action going on.
I have a first generation Apple TV, been very happy with it. I use it on a flatscreen tv that’s not “smart TV.” The larger flatscreen is a smart tv & most apps are already on tv, would love have a current generation of Apple TV.

I am fortunate to have Fire tv, Chrome, and Apple TV 4K. I use them all but mainly Apple. Fire tv is great too but like all of them you get bored and this helps switch things up.

Nvida Shield did games first and their Shield box is still the best for gaming streaming device. But as with everything these days it’s all about what “ecosystem” you’re using. If you have Apple gear or use Apple Music then Apple TV is the way to go since it syncs all your music movies & tv shows for effortless streaming throughout your home. I’ve used Roku devices since they first came out. The Ultra Roku 4 box I have now is terrific. That being said in the future now that Apple doesn’t appear to have the channel limitations it used to have, (Amazon video for example), I’d look into buying an AppleTV when or if my Roku box ever crashed. My parents have an AppleTV and they are tech morons, (their words not mine), and they’re whole home is linked up with movies and TV. They love it.

Crackle is excellent. You do have to watch ads but the movies are uncut and uncensored. Totally worth it. One day I binge watched the Alien movie franchise 😎🥃
I purchased a separate remote. One that is easier to use,. No moving past where you want to go. I absolutely hate, detest, abhors the silly remote that comes with the TV.
I love the CW app yes there are adds the you have to watch but you can watch the last five episodes for your favorite CW shows also check out the CW seed app to it like the CW app but it shows that are not on tv
Almost any app movies you discuss are UNAVAILABLE. And I live in California ,not some ultra remote place. Were are you? See others also can not find all this stuff, kind of disappointing.
