The fun actually starts around 5:00.
My Dad was a Vet so I "assisted" with several hundred - thousands? - of these procedures.
For medium size & larger dogs like Louis instead of Q-tips, he - we'd - use cotton wrapped around the tips of forceps or hemostats.
Obviously much larger than Q-tips so no danger of going to far & does a better job of cleaning the sides.
GREAT dog!
how is that dog so calm!! such a good boy. my dog would literally start running away as soon as he sees q-tips with me
My vet told not to use Q-tips
Use cotton balls and swab out debris ... q tip can push debris down further or rupture ear drum
@ Julia - same with my dog. I am super impressed with Louis!
I usually tire out my pups, no energy to run around with haha! And maybe some good massages
My cat is the same!
It's hard to do anything with the dog running at 80 MPH...
Only thing worse than a dog who wont slow down to let us groom them is that they refuse to SHARE said 80mph energy level. So wrong.
worddunlap: LOL
🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂😂
My dog didn't like the apple cider vinegar at all. It made her act very strange. But everything else was great. Thank you
My gosh! How is he so good and calm?! I have 2 cats and a dog and there no way they'd behave so well with me cleaning their ears.
I was very lucky with my dog, he was amazing:)
Things I have tried with some success: Go slow & only do part of the procedure for awhile to get them used to it. Also train "Down & stay" command. (I dont have catd) lol.
He's a pro at it. Likely, not infected at the time. Great demo pup!
Thank you so very much for this insanely good video! I just stumbled on your channel today and I can’t stop watching. I really appreciate all the time and effort you put into making these videos to help us dog parents to give our beloved canine family members the best standard of care possible. 😊🐾

Louis is such a good sport. I wish my dog would sit this still & be this calm. This was very helpful. I'm gonna try it on my dog.
Thank you so much for your work! You are awesome! I learn so much from your videos. It's heartwarming to see a vet who is up on current research & remedies for cats.
This is fantastic.I"ve got two cats who really need this... and I've never known for sure how to clean the ears safely and to rid them of Mites, which is on another of your videos. Doctor you are a blessing for people who love their pets. Thank you greatly.
You're welcome!
Thank you so much for posting this video!
I have two female Boston's and a male Frenchie and ALL of them THANK YOU for this video TOO!

Lewis is such a sweet, docile soul! Thank you......great instructions.
You're welcome
I was at the vet's last week and I mentioned that I'm going to clean my two dog's ears out with your recipe and he was horrified,I explained it was an experienced vet on the internet he said putting any type of vinegar in the ears of a dog is not a good idea. Why would he say this?
Thank you for your time and videos!! They’re SO helpful and informative!!!
You're most welcome, Eva!
Thank you! Lewis is such a good fur baby
Thanks
Wow, thank you! Lewis is the best patient. I love his foot going when you went in with the q tip. He's was such a lovely boy!
You're welcome! Yes, he was a wonderful dog. Lewis was so natural on screen. I miss him.

I watch your videos with great interest, top man for standing your ground against adversity !
Thanks Andrew - good name :-)
i wish my dog stay like that when i try to clean my dogs ears they start running like crazy and I have to chasing them😂😂😂😂😂😂
Good point
Try doing it slowly. Take time,if he tries to run, make him/her stay and massage the ears.. at first my gold ret doesnt like it.. but you should be patient to them. Now my dog just voluntarily lies down when i try to clean his ears.. :)
mine too...........
yessy, my dogs do the same😂
Your a Boxer is beautiful! I have a Boxer as well, they are the best!
Yessy, hahahaha
Such a patient patient! 💜
Dr Jones thank you so much. Very much needed direction to care for our cat. Blessings

Fantastic video on cleaning the ears.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I have a 19 year old Peke and she is strong as an ox.
Thanks
I do know it is recommended to clean ears on regular basis. And I do, haha but my easiest time is the day after 4th of July and New Year’s Day, because all 5 of my dogs are still a little sluggish from the sedatives given the night before to help with the anxiety from all the dreaded fireworks. SO quick before they all come to grab the tub, ear cleaner, nail clippers and give em all all good going over before they can retaliate!
Thank you as always. All your information makes it so much easier for us to care for those that mean so much to us. 🐾
Great topic! I have the Epi Otic for my dog. I learned from your video that I haven't been massaging his ears for long enough to really get it in there to help. Fletcher gets itchy ears frequently and trips to the vet have shown no infections. Thank you for Another Great informative video!
Thanks
Thank you, My little doggie has had these ear mites for a very long time and I'm ready to release them from his ear with love and grace and your methods, thank you . Your awesome.

Louis is the best patient ever!!
Great stuff doc.
Love this ear cleaning video, you are a great vet, my only criticism is telling the public to use Qtips, too much room for error at the Animals expense.
Thank you sir for sharing these basics. I truly appreciate you being forthcoming about this. Todays vets seem greedy, money Hungary and untrustworthy. Im grateful there is people like you !.
I love you using Q-tips!
Thank you very much for this video!
The time you take to explain the whole process is very much appreciated! I'm confident NOW that my dogs ears are actually CLEAN!
You're very welcome!
You make it look so easy! Thank you!!!
You are welcome
this dog is a saint ... my dog wont even get on a stainless steel table lmao
A Big thanks for such a informative and helpful video on dog ear cleaning
Welcome
What do you think about adding a little colloidal silver too?
Thank you very much for your lovely video
I just subscribed!!! Will do this early in the morning! Question though, i noticed my yorkie (female) did have a bit of blood in her ear... any advice on how to properly approach?
It does appear pretty inflamed also... 😞 i feel bad for her, she randomly squeals but not a lot . I assume it’s really bothering her now. I did however warm up some natural coconut oil and applied a few drops maybe 7-8 and clean a bit with q tips and she seems to be a little more comfortable as i heard coconut oil is anti fungal and anti inflammatory
I subscribed! Thank you for your help.
Very clear, step by step demonstration.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you . Very useful natural ingredients too.
Very helpful. Thanks!
You are an amazing doctor!
Thank you:)
Thank you again, Dr.Jones

Thank you Dr Jones for explaining what natural (Easy obtained) items can be used to clean cat and dog ears. Not all of use can obtain products that require a prescription / are expensive, or semi-expensive.... Items that have "limited" use.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.
Do have a suggestion.. As we don't want to damage the eardrum... and laypeople are always told NOT to stick anything into a pets ears.
Suggestion is this unless you did it already:
1: Display a diagram /pic, or drawing that shows ear canal.
(You did a good job with your fingers, but alot of people would benefit from seeing a diagram... with you talking about how far down it is to turn, How far eardrum is after turn is.)
2: In the description field box here on UA-cam... And in video itself, towards front of video, then again near end... List what products you used.. Print on sheet of paper.. Show it for about 5 seconds.. at end of video show it again, doing it in a recap manner.
Thanks again, wish you and your family all the best.
Thank you ❤😊 you are so helpful
Is that dog sedated? Jeez! Best behaved dog ever!
Ahahaha my dog is just like this, we adopted him at age 3 and he must’ve gotten training before because he was extremely well behaved. We really did win the lotto when getting a dog.

That's good to hear.
Dr. Jones, my dogs ear flap has become very thick and tough feeling. She is a black mouth cur weighing about 45 lbs. We live on about 40 acres in the country. I have 4 rescue dogs. She is the only one affected. Would this treatment be good for my dog? Thank you for your informative videos. I really appreciate all you do.
Good information, thank you

Can you please let me know what brand aloe vera gel you are using, is it safe for cats and thanx.
Great video! I have a dog that gets yeast infections constantly and I have been looking for a natural remedy. Also I have an adopted kitty that has some ear problems as well. Luckily for me, they all sit patiently and let me do this (even the kitty!). Most of the time the ear is inflamed though so I will try the olive oil mixture or the Epi Otic you suggested. I am totally with you on the maintenance before it even gets to this point. Thanks again!
Welcome- hope it helps
You are lucky that they sit.
Beautiful dog
Wish you were in my area! Thanks for the lesson in cleaning my labs' ears. Been spending money on Zymox cleaner and was hoping to find a more natural way to clean her 9 yo ears.
What a good boy is Lewis! Saints can learn Patience from him!🤗
He had a lot of patience:)
I am so glad I found and subscribed to your channel. After watching this video, I realized that I need to start massaging the base of my dogs ears. Question-is coconut oil a good substitute for olive oil?
Yes for this case
Obrigado!!!
Hi Dr Jones, Is it possible that you may have a solution for dogs that love to swim (AND I MEAN THAT MY DOG LOVES TO SWIM UNDER WATER ) and have very narrow ear canals to still go swimming without getting ear infections. I would very much appreciate your come back and so will my dog. Se misses swimming. Thanks from Australia.
Thank you, Lewis.
Lewis you’re a star ⭐️
He was pretty amazing:)
He was a very good boy.
Yes
"You can probably hear the sound of the liquid swishing back and forwards" - it must have been pretty loud for the dog!
@@DownhillAllTheWay And also very relieving to have a clean ear canal.
Thanks!
Thank you!!! Can you do a video on what behaviour to expect after medication?
My cat goes nuts after she gets her antibiotic ear drops... for hours. i cant find anything online about it.
Also, a video on issues with cats balance or legs. My fluffels falls over some times when she jumps ☹
Thank you!!!!
Welcome
Dr. Andrew! I'm so thankful I ran across your video. Really, my Henry is miserable, shaking his head all the time. I really hope this helps!
Ps. Did you mention free catalogs on home remedies for your pet!?!? Count me in.
Do I email you my address or what? Lol😊😊
thank you, thank you somuch for this very informative way of cleaning our pets ears, I just adopted a cat, but when I had her she had just a little infections, without proper instructions and knowldege I just cleaned her left ears with just cotton buds almost everyday, and I beleived she was alright;;;but yesterday until to day she started shaking her head as if something was bothering her and she started scratching her left ear again.... and when I cleaned it again it seems her infections came back!? I have to wait for my friend so she could accompany me to the vet...but since I found on your channel it gave me the courage to try this method by using what you have listed...thank you again .more power to your channel. I subbed...
Thanks
Hi can i use coconut oil, hoping for your reply thanks

Hi, thank you for the very informative video. Can I ask if it is ok to use green tea and vinegar on my toy poodle as she has very hairy ears and I don’t want the fluid to get trapped in her ears !
thank you
My dog has recurring ear infections and had one just recently. She isn't as patient as this dog gets very agitated when I try any type of treatment. Ended up at the vet clinic with a big bill. Going to try some of those options but for sure won't be able to inject them in any way.
great hairstyle! keep up with the great work!
Ha- Thanks :-)
Very helpful information on cleaning cats ears. Thank you.
THanks
Louis trusts you so much......
QUESTION: Hi Dr Jones-My Sheltie, Shimmer, was at a sitters for 2 weeks. I checked her ears, because she was holding one ear low and saw one ear was clean but the other one was black or dark brown just caked inside her ear, in the canal, into the fur and on the flap. Is this normal, to have one dirty ear only and will the oil/aloe work..there is a bit of blood after her second day of cleaning, as the dirt was just almost scabbed in.After 2 days of cleaning it got just as bad, so I am doing twice a day...is that OK??
