Your correct, Mealworms are extremely harmful. They have a very poor calcium phosphorus ratio, when to many foods containing high amounts of phosphorus are eaten the body then leaches calcium from the bones to compensate. This leads to metabolic bone disease, and it’s an awfully painful and distressing disease with no cure so the only option is to pts as the damage can not be undone. Other foods containing high phosphorus levels that shouldn’t be fed to wild hedgehogs are peanuts, sunflower seeds and raw / cooked meat and poultry. Many say oh it’s only a handful as a treat 🙄 but they are wild animals that can travel 2km a night, so there is no why to monitor how many gardens they are visiting and eating these extremely harmful foods, small amounts from every garden soon mount up. So the advise is NO mealworms or similar at all, it’s not worth the risk.
It’s a lot easier to use tweezers to remove ticks from hedgehogs. You just need to try to get as close to the skin as possible but don’t squeeze too hard. You don’t want to pop them. Getting the entire head out is very important. Also try not to touch them with your bare skin as well. They carry some really nasty diseases.
This is so sweet of you. And you’re brave! I would be afraid she/he’d stick me! But I would totally do this too for an animal covered in ticks. I despise ticks!
Mealworms are really bad for hedgehogs please do not feed them to hedgehogs not even as a snack. They cause MBD (metabolic bone disease) which can cause the hedgehog to lose the ability to walk or even worse kill the hedgehog. Please stop feeding this, it is awful. It seems you are but do keep on ensuring you are removing the whole tick as leaving the head in can cause even more issues and make sure to restrict handling hedgehogs as they are wild and only remove ticks like In this case when there is multiple. Hope this helps 👍🦔
Appalling to see you giving this hog mealworms, they cause metabolic bone disease which is fatal, there's no treatment options except to pts. If your offering them as a one off just to get the hog to uncurl to remove the ticks then you should of said as such in the description to this video.
First off please don't feed mealworms as it is very bad for hogs and long term feeding will give them metabolic bone disease. Secondly, you could do with learning how to use tick tweezers as it is faster and less stressful for the hog.
No wonder no one does anything good anymore when there are negative people always looking to criticise someone's kind act. You maybe right but how many people would actually try to help a poor creature like this? Probably not many. Please do not show negativity to people who are just trying to do good. Or better still, upload a video of yourself doing the same...I wonder how many people would criticise your methods and how you would feel about it?
@@jamesgriffith4388 Too busy doing actual wild hedgehog rescue to make a video of it - but not a bad idea. Maybe I will get someone to film me next time I get in a hog with lots of ticks.
It is bad for hedgehogs to eat straight mealworms. And yes, she should've used a better device to pull the tics out. No need to get upset at a person who's trying to not let a hedgie get hurt
I think... I hope... It's not her's hedgehog. It's a wild animal - Erinaceus europaeus. This is a question to the author of this clip - do you own this animal or is it from your garden/neighbourhood?
A lot of over the counter pet treatments are toxic to hedgehogs. If there is enough ticks and fleas to warrant concern then they should be taken to an experienced trained rescue as high tick and flea burdens are often a sign that the hedgehog has underlying health issues that will need investigating. Unfortunately far to many believe they are helping when they catch garden wildlife and self treat but they are not.
Thank you for helping this sweet creature! 🥰
Put the camera on top so that you can use both hands , wear gloves and you can easily remove the tics !
Thank you for helping the hedgehog ♡
I was told dried mealworms were very bad for hedgehogs. Perhaps it’s just a treat to have her ticks removed - love how she huffs at you.

Much respect for killing the nasty things. Still never understood the reason there's ticks, flea's and nasty shit like that.
Thank you for helping this hedgehog
Excellent job! I love hedgehogs and I hate parasites.
Sonic would be proud for helping his species

How do they get them?
They walk through bushes and hedges they are wild animals. We - people - brought ticks to europe. So we are the one to blame
Da risa ver usar eso para sacar bichos.debe ser un juguete y así juegan jaja
С ежей лучше и удобнее снимать клещей пинцетом. Делают рекламу этому клещекруту, а он не везде удобен.

Be smart get gloves on cradle her and remove those ticks
Looks like this owner let the Ticks grow on that Hedgehog... And decided to film it when she's ready to harvest those ticks. :/

No, it's a wild one
Yes that's right, she caught a wild hedgehog, rolled it in ticks all for UA-cam.
I am wondering if there is any med for these guys just like they have for dogs anti flea anti tick, ect..

Wtf
Tweezers would have been faster
Tweezers can just tear to body off the tick with the head attached. This tool helps remove the body.
