How To Inspect A Car Before You Buy: 3 Can't Miss Tips!

- When buying a car it is important to do your due diligence so you can make sure you are not buying a car with hidden issues. Usually we use certified mechanics and speciality shops to perform a proper Pre-purchase inspection. But in the event that you need to inspect a car yourself, here are some common things I look for.

I've been in and out of the car biz for over 20 years. Owned 2 used car dealerships. Also look for the OEM stickers under the hood or trunk. There are plenty of mobile vehicle inspectors that you can hire for a reasonable price or ask the seller to take it to a dealership of the manufacturer you are purchasing and that you will pay for the inspection. You can also purchase a "paint meter", but it's not as important for the front or rear bumper covers. The front or rear bumper covers may have been painted because of rock chips/road rash, grocery cart bumps, etc. You just want to make sure the core of the vehicle has not been compromised by a vehicle crash, etc. Be very careful and know what you are doing before you buy high priced automobiles.
The first car I ever bought I almost got royally screwed on. It was a 2006 Acura TL from a small dealer in OH. I lived in NC so I couldn’t see the car in person prior to buying. But I had the dealer take the car to an Acura dealer and a body shop. Carfax was clean but Autocheck showed possible frame damage. At the body shop they discovered that even though no accidents were reported to either vehicle history service, every panel on the driver’s side of the car had been either repainted or replaced. Funny enough the driver’s side door was replaced and they didn’t rekey the door lock so the ignition key would not unlock the door. I got my $1000 deposit back and they covered the cost of the dealer and body shop inspections.

Depends. Generally not. Half the time when cars go to auction their bumpers are resprayed in the parking lot.

Also check for corrosion and 2 keys because it could have been an action car. Check maintenance history.
A paint thickness should be checked with a scanner gun, if the car has miles with no dings/scratches also no clear bras history, something’s not right.
I would be so paranoid to take out a vehicle with hard to match paint like the Porsche
