      Yeah, it was practically instantaneous, and I thought theyd take minutes.
      I hoped he'd show them lighten after going back in though...and I thought all 3 were a little tinted inside?
      Not sure if gen 8 or the new polorized ones would be better for me out of the house...

But I would have liked to see you get in your car, and show us how the different lenses perform there... and then take them inside and let us see how long it takes for them to return to clear. What color do the polar lenses come in? I prefer brown.
    Seems like not a lot of places carry them. When referencing their site they list places that do carry them and upon calling an optical store will tell you they aren’t polarized.

      There are currently 2 lines to the Transitions products, the XtrActive and the XtrActive Polarized. So when calling around, just make sure the person you're speaking to understands the difference (not all will). As of today (11/17/23) the XtrActive polarized are only available in the gray color.

  • @MrMichaelMeissner
    @MrMichaelMeissner 3 роки тому +17

    A couple of things. As Joshua mentioned, it would be good to see the transition from dark to clear also.
    For completeness, you should probably also do the non-Transitions branded photochromic lens as well like you did in the 2015 video.
    Rather than just a plain white tray, it may be useful to print up lines or use a newspaper so you can see through the glass and get a little context of how it would be in real world situations.
    For the XtraActive and XtrActive Polarized lenses, also show how dark they get when you are in a car and compare it to the gen 8. Presumably the gen 8 would be clear because the car windshield blocks UV rays. The advertising claim is XtrActive will get dark in a car, but the question is how dark do they get. So far, I don't recall many videos showing this.
    Please compare how much polarization XtraActive Polarized lenses are compared to a standard polarized lens. Compare both when the glasses are in the shade (and hence not dark) and when you are in sunlight. In addition to reducing glare, it would be helpful to know if the glasses suffer the usual problems with displaying certain LCDs (for example my daughter's 2012 Prius's LCD cannot be seen with polarized lenses).
    It might also be helpful to compare the effect of the optional anti-reflective coatings does to the glasses, and whether it affects the transitions between dark/light, and for the Polarized lenses whether it impacts the polarization.
    And finally, please mention that XtraActive Polarized is not available at this time in bi-focal and tri-focal glasses. I was excited to learn that XtraActive Polarized existed (and usemyframe.com seems to be the only online vendor right now), and then I was disappointed that I couldn't get it in tri-focals.

      Thank you for your kind words! The latest generation of Transitions (Gen. 8) last even longer than previous generations, at a little over 2 years before they start losing their ability to darken/lighten. They will still darken/lighten after, they just won't get as dark/light as they did previously. This is also only an average and ultimately depends on individual usage. Thank you again! 😎

    I noticed on Transitions website there is also the option to add mirror tinting to the XTRActive New Generation lenses. Is this a good investment for glasses that will be worn pretty much all the time? Do they cause any type of reflection that would interfere with vision when not outdoors? And would this work on progressives? Thanks in advance for suggestions.🙂

    • @UseMyFrame
      @UseMyFrame  Рік тому +2

      Great question! They are a subtle mirror and suitable for indoor and night time wear, so there's very little disruption compared to regular XtrActive wear, comparatively speaking.
      They are called, "Style Mirrors" and that describes their intention really well. They are for those looking for Transitions lenses, but want to add a little extra, "style" to them and differentiate from the typical gray and brown. For the most part, you don't even notice it's there, but as they darken the mirror effect becomes more and more noticable. So you get the benefit of having a stylish pair of sunglasses that you can also wear comfortably when regular sunglasses with a mirror would be too dark. It's a stylish convenience. :)

      @UseMyFrame  11 місяців тому

      Sunglasses will be dark all the time and are usually polarized or just tinted. The XtrActive polarized lenses will be clear outdoors and darken and polarize outside.
      I would recommend the XtrActive polarized lenses to those wanting a convenient option of polarized sunglasses that can also be used inside; however, for those that are very light sensitive and want very dark sunglasses, the regular polarized sunglasses would be a better option. Also, for those wanting sunglasses while driving, I'd recommend polarized sunglasses even though the XtrActive polar partially darkens, it's not nearly as much as the dedicated polarized lenses).

    So, if i am a taxi driver and usually on a night shift, which technology should i choose?
    Cause very popular in Russia US Younger Optics and Japanese Hoya with polarized Drivewear - are forbidden at night.

    Do XtrActive Polarized interfere with LCD screens? Can you still use your phone outside when they darken?

    • @UseMyFrame
      @UseMyFrame  Рік тому

      These actually polarize as they darken. So in their clear state they won’t affect computer screens at all, but as they darken and polarize, yes they can affect how you perceive screens; though in my experience, not as much as regular polarized lenses.

    • @JimFarrand
      @JimFarrand Рік тому

      @@UseMyFrame Thanks! I did a bit of Googling since yesterday, and I think this might actually be less of a problem than it was, maybe because modern screens are a built a bit differently? I've avoided polarised glasses for years, because - many years ago - I bought a pair and then discovered that it made everything on my phone invisible - literally the screen went dark.
      When inside using a computer I could generally switch to another pair of glasses, I guess my concern is being outside with just a pair of XTRAactive and not being able to read the notifications on my phone when I need to. I'm basically blind without my glasses and don't want to need to take my glasses off and hold my phone right up close to my face, thus looking like a bit of a twit.
      "Affect how you perceive screens" makes it sound more like, things might go a bit funny but are still usable?

    Have you got experience of the Transitions Drivewear? I know they are tinted all the time but do you know how quick they transition and if they also have a lifespan when they start slowing transitioning?

    • @UseMyFrame
      @UseMyFrame  Рік тому +1

      Yes, I keep a pair of Drivewear in my car. They're transitioning is pretty subtle and not really noticeable while wearing them driving, and that's what I like about them - I don't really have to think about it and I always have the best color lenses while driving, even if I drive through an overcase area.
      The pair I have are about 2 1/2 years old and working fine. Most Transitions have an optimal performance of between 1 1/2 and 2 years.

    Do transition gen 8 have bluelight filters?

    • @UseMyFrame
      @UseMyFrame  3 роки тому

      Yes, that’s another improvement of the Gen 8 over the 7, is they help reduce blue light. They’re not as effective as a dedicated blue light coating, but certainly helpful nonetheless.

    Thanks for making this. Got my first glasses last year but I am wanting something with a bit a of tint indoors and plenty outdoors. That polarized one looks good. I use a lot of polarizing filters in my photography and it still sometimes amazes me how much glare that can take away.

    • @tmxv-bg8cz
      @tmxv-bg8cz Рік тому +1

      Very true. One thing to be aware of though, if you use a polarizing filter on a camera and are wearing polarizing lenses on your glasses, they will cancel each other out. I found this out when my camera viewfinder turned black. Finally realized I had to take off the glasses to see. Thought at first something was wrong with my camera. duhhhhh

      @@tmxv-bg8cz I had no idea, thanks for the heads up. I have noticed what I think is the same effect when I have wore regular polarized sunglasses in the past and looked at a smartphone screen. That could be an issue. I just got new glasses with the regular Transitions Xtractive a few months ago and have been pretty happy with them so far but have still been thinking of getting a polarized option but now you have me thinking I might pass on that.

    • @tmxv-bg8cz
      @tmxv-bg8cz Рік тому

      Glad this might help. Once I realized that the polarized Transitions lenses would interfere with my photography, I got the standard Transitions and use a pair of polarized Cocoons sunglasses over my normal glasses when I am driving. For me, this is the best of both worlds. The Cocoons with the copper polarized lenses are wonderful for driving, and then when I leave the car, the Transitions take over and I can see really well to take photos. @@murrayshekelberg9754

    So, it looks like Transitions XtraActive8 lenses get darker than the XtraActive+ lenses...is this true?
    Also, how dark do the XtrActive 8's get in the car? Do they get to the full darkness potential?
    Does Transitions give the percentage of UV waves blocked rating with any of their lenses, like the regular store bought lenses do? (Eg., 400%)

    • @UseMyFrame
      @UseMyFrame  5 місяців тому

      Great quesitons, thank you!
      1. Yes, the non polarized XtrActive darkened more than the XtrActive polarized.
      2. None of the XtrActive Transitions reach the same level of darkness in a car as they do outside. There are UV blockers in car windshields which severely limits the amount of UV that passes through (which is good because it helps protect our dashboards from cracking, etc.).
      3. All Transitions block 100% UVA/B
      Thanks for watching! :)

    Do the extractive ones look like tinted glasses when you are inside ? Not very clear ?

    • @UseMyFrame
      @UseMyFrame  Рік тому

      Yes, there's a notable tint indoors with the XtrActive (maybe a 5 to 10%). Wearing them you wouldn't usually notice, nor if someone is looking at you would they notice; but much more noticeable when placed on a white background like in this video. Some who are very light sensitive actually prefer this.

      I would recommend the XtrActive (middle lens in the video). It gets darker than all others, and even had a slight tint indoors that can also provide visual comfort/relief indoors.

      High quality fishing glasses are usually polarized. The polarization helps reduce the surface glare on the surface of the water so you can see below.
