The Sith at this time were terribly tactically brilliant. They thoroughly beat and screwed over the Republic, causing fear and shortages in necessities so bad that they were forced to face civil unrest, drew in new allies before being backed into a corner, and when they offered a truce, they put a knife to the throat of Galactic Center to ensure that the Treaty of Coruscant was nonnegotiable for them. Even after the Treaty, the Sith embedded fear into the Galaxy and therefore made it last by forcing everybody to acknowledge the Sith Empire’s legitimacy in what’s essentially their backyard. That’s just insane.
As a side note, props goes to the writers cause it explains well why SWTOR’s story seems to last so long.

This little speech Malgus gives in the Deceived trailer for SWTOR perfectly sums up the problems with the Jedi that eventually would lead to Palpatine and order 66. It’s like poetry, it rhymes.

The fact that the Sith managed to sack the capital of the Republic and raze most of the Jedi temple, killing many knights and masters of the order, and did it with minimal losses on their side, just shows how powerful the Sith were at this time. I'd say this is the most powerful the Sith have ever been until Palpy cheated the system with coming back from the dead after singlehandedly bringing down both the Republic and the Jedi in one fell swoop.
And Malgus is a badass, dude got drip and power! 10/10 would follow him into battle no matter what!

Funny thing is, they all were actually weak as hell. None, absolutely none of the Sith you see bar Vitiate himself were *that* powerful. @@XXMatt0040XX republic troopers mauled clones, the feats and showings aren’t even close so I don’t know where you’ve gotten that from. The squad in the trailers was specifically designed to take down Soth on top of that so they’re not even normal republic troopers. many of the higher end sith of the era showed feats superior to that of most of the movie era, even though most of them were kind of fodder. People wank the movie era a lot sheerly off the fact that they’re popular, the fact that these guys were constantly fighting and had prepared for conflict whereas the cinematic era were unaccustomed to combat shows that power difference.

The Galactic Republic in the Old Republic era had to fight against Large quantities of Sith, hence the reason of the harsh Military training that its Military had to undertake. Republic troopers, especially Special Forces had to train to resist force Lightning and all that.
The Only people you would see Punching Jedi or sith in the face would be Mandalorians. But the republic troopers of this Era had alot of training against this enemy too.
The fact that Jace Malcom, a Special Forces commander could resist and endure Force lightning like that and go face-to-face against a Sith Like Darth Malgus in one of the Cinematic Trailers speaks alot about the training they had to endure.
Clone Troopers as seen in their simulations in the Clone Wars are purely meant to fight Droids. Against a Sith lord like Dooku, they are cannon Fodder
The Normal, Standard old republic military ofcourse weren't as highly trained to fight sith as their Special Forces, but they still had the tools to deal with one.
Clone Troopers only won in order 66, because the deadliest weapon to any jedi or sith is 'Betrayal', it is the Bane of even the most powerfull force users throughout Star WarsHistory.
If you'd put the CLone Army in the Old Republic era and the Old Republic Military of SWTOR in the CLone Wars.
The Clone Army would so easily be wiped out by the Armies of Sith. compared to the Old Republic Military beating up Dooku and Ventress in a Fist fight by manner of speaking.

But, personally, I really enjoy the Reconstituted Sith Empire. Especially in this stage of the war, when they come out of nowhere and devastate the galaxy with brutal efficiency and terror tactics. Maybe not the original pureblood sith species, but for whatever reason alot of humans in positions of power within the reconstituted sith empire at least flirted with humanocentric xenophobia despite the fact that their entire cultural identity and religion was originally derived from an alien cult. It was apparently such a widespread thing that when he went rogue, Malgus felt the need to proclaim himself a non-racist sith lord advocating tolerance of non-humans as if that was something radically new and different among the sith at the time.

Got a Theory why the Treaty of Coruscant was signed, why the Sith Emperor even agreed to it.
you see, When you free Revan as a republic character from the Maelstrom Prison.
    He has this to say:
'The Emperor used me as his Link to the Light Side of the Force, the Jedi Order. Through me, he saw Visions. In that Same Link also gave me Influence, i convinced the Emperor that Peace was in his best interest, it Tempered his Hate.'
so because of Revan's "Mind-Battle" with the Sith Emperor, he managed to temper his Hatred... and With 'convinced the emperor peace was in his best interest' so, Revan actually made sure the Sith Emperor accepted the Peace Treaty?

As it was an ambush, we can assume the Republic Fleet was not in a position to defend Coruscant. The last thing they would have expected is a Sith invasion. All Republic forces were expected to cease hostilities just as the Empire had appeared to do. The Republic trusted the Empire because they withdrew all their forces from the Minos Cluster, which they were just fighting for. The Republic Fleet may have been dispersed across the galaxy, and any ships that remained in Coruscant's airspace would have been confronted and destroyed by the fleet led by Darth Angral. Even the shuttle the Sith crashed into the Jedi temple was a hijacked Republic vehicle. After conquering Coruscant, the Empire set up a blockade, established martial law, looted the planet, razed the cities, and cut all communication from the planet's surface.

If there is an era in the Old Republic that deserved TV Series of its own, it's definitely the Great Galactic War and the Cold War. Just think about it. The series followed a group of young Sith apprentices freshed out of the academy as the protagonists who joined the war against the Republic, rising through the ranks and scoring some hot female Sith and Imperial waifu on the ways to the point of gaining the titles of Darth of their own. And during the Cold War, their children grown up to follow the footsteps of their parents to become Sith Lords in their own rights.
And if Palpatine and Maul are born in the Sith Empire under Darth Vitiate, what can they do and how will they do it in order to gain the titles of Darth of their own and in Palpatine's case, earning a seat on the Dark Council? I doubted he can become the Emperor or one of his Voices, though.
By the way, is the alliance between the Sith Empire and the Mandalorians during this time can be a factor why the Republic and the Jedi committed ethnocide that is the Mandalorian Excision many centuries later on?

My biggest problem with SWTOR lore was that the Chiss Ascendancy, as detailed in the EU (which SWTOR was supposedly based in) had only been founded 1,000 years earlier, was set in a completely different area of space the the Sith and Republic couldn't access at the time (beyond the hyperspace disturbance that cut the entire western disk off from the rest of the galaxy), and while the Chiss were vaguely known about during the Dark Wars, which is when the first Chiss explorers came to the main galaxy and their technology could be sold (such as the charric rifle), the Chiss Ascendancy was not known about by the Republic or really anyone in the wider galaxy until they were discovered in an encounter with Outbound Flight, and their existence was kept secret by Palpatine so well that they weren't discovered again until a few years after the Thrawn campaign, when Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade stumbled across the Empire of the Hand, Thrawn's personal offshoot mini-Empire/Ascendancy.
Chiss Space is in the true Unknown Regions, while the True Sith Empire of SWTOR is based from Dromund Kass, a planet in the Stygian Caldera, which would have been found by the Republic in their counterinvasion during the Great Hyperspace War. The possibility of them existing there in the first place completely defies the established geography of the galaxy, as well as established lore. Therefore, by EU standards, it isn't canon to the main EU. SWTOR can only possibly exist in an alternate version of the Star Wars galaxy.
None of this would've been a problem if Obsidian's pitch for KotOR III would have gone through, as it is expressly mentioned in interviews that the main character, the Exile, would have gone with only T3-M4 and HK-47 across the great hyperspace disturbance and into the western disk, with something about crossing the border causing the character progress to revert back to lvl 1 again at the start of the game. Hell, it would've been great to go into that, with the way it was described and the way hints were dropped about the Chiss in KotOR II, and be the first people to meet the Chiss, the only group strong enough to oppose the True Sith. It would've been an excellent explanation for why the Chiss are so militaristic, tactically minded, and even ethical (with Thrawn being a notable exception to that last one). They were literally the ones to stand up against and help defeat the True Sith alongside the Exile, Revan, and likely HK-47's droid army and the reformed Mandalorians under Canderous, with back-up from the Exile's Jedi who would've served as a proto-version or blueprint for what thousands of years later would've been Luke's New Jedi Order.

Why not just move Dromund Kaas into UR proper? Do any other sources depend on it being in Stygian Caldera?

@Алексей Момот Yeah, Dromund Kass originally appeared in Mysteries of the Sith, the expansion to Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight. Kyle Katarn goes there, finds a cult and some old Sith ghosts and goes crazy, and Mara Jade (who was his first Jedi trainee) had to go rescue him and bring him back to the Light. Planet was around before the Old Republic comics, and I'm pretty sure the only mention of the Dromund system after is briefly in one of the comics where Marka Ragnos was still ruling the old Sith Empire. At least, until SWTOR.
And then there's the official galactic map, which was released in 2009 as part of Star Wars: The Essential Atlas. 2+ years before SWTOR came out. The graphic in the video is literally a map of the events and locations in the Great Hyperspace War, taken straight from pg.127 of the atlas, which shows the path of the True Sith as they evacuated the Stygian Caldera and traveled beyond the great hyperspace disturbance and into the western disk. None of the surviving Sith hid within the Caldera, nor did any return. The survivors went elsewhere.
So yeah, massive lore-breaking plothole. Earlier versions of the galactic map in SWTOR even put Chiss space near the Stygian Caldera and directly in Sith Space, including mention of their homeworld Csilla being there. Major violation. Only explination is that SWTOR exists in it's own non-canon version of the EU. It literally cannot exist in the main EU timeline.
