A great way to add meganobz to your collection is to get the black orc bloodbowl team, its got 6 really jacked and armoured orks on 40mms. The conversion can be as simple as you chop off their hands and glue on spare meganob weapons. This is how I made my twin killsaw meganobz for this edition of 40k. Its also cheaper than ardboys and theres no need to 'de-sigmar' the minis.
AoS orruks are a lot of fun. Plus AoS is actually quite a bit cheaper to build a 2k army. However, with some work the various kits would be a nice diversion if you just wanted to play spearhead (though only krulebboyz thus far , but a ironjawz one may appear in wd), spearhead improved on what combat patrol tried to be and expect some of the differences to come to 40k in 11th i reckon.
Real quick correction: The Wurrboy comes on a 32mm base so he can fit in the Wurrtower on the Kill Rig. Of the non-Legends Ork characters: the Big Mek in Mega Armor, the Big Mek With Shokk Attack Gun, the Painboss, Boss Snikrot, the Warboss, and the Weirdboy, come on 40mm bases. Oddly, the (new) regular Big Mek and the named Runtherd Zodgrod Wortsnagga--probably for all the hair squigs--come on 50mm bases.
I love kitbashing and I will be building an Ork army in the future. I managed to grab a Killdakka Warband, Beast Snagga Stampede, and Stompa Boyz battleforces. I also have two of the kill team starter set with the Ork Kommandos. I have too many armies that I have at varying levels of built. The ork one though I want to really take the time and have fun building it when I do.
Would be interesting to see a similar idea from the other side: What 40k Orks are best for kitbashing for AoS. As someone who's just getting into kitbashing, I really love this kind of content. Keep it up!
They make for cool snakebites, I got a crapton of the discontinued savage orruks to run as my snakebite boyz. If you're confident with your kitbashing ability then this boxset is great, I'd happily tear them apart and build anything I need.
A box of five Brutes are perfect for making five Meganobz to hoon around in a trukk with a Warboss in Mega Armour - who you could make from a Megaboss or Zoggrok Anvilsmasha!
I reckon the ragers will make amazing tankbusta with hammers proxies (hoping the new rules will make them good), just stick a rocket strapped to the weapons! that said the new tankbustas are also just great looking, but variation would be great.
Iv been considering an AoS Ork army for a while, i just love the Ironjaws aesthetic. This video does get me pondering if its possible to create a fully magnetized army that can serve in both Aos and 40k with some simple arm and weapon swaps, possibly blending the aesthetic of the fantasy design of Ironjaws and bring it just a tad bit into the sci-fi setting. It would be tons of work and teeth but would be definitetly be a challenging kitbash project. Also the Ironjaws box is really good. Not sure if youre aware but AoS holiday battleforces are always sold cheaper than the 40k offerings. Its usually like $15-$20 less than the 40k boxes. So in fact your basically paying for the 4 ork units and getting big pig for free
@@EdwardWB97 Assuming Chaos Daemons doesn't get broken up and slotted into the monogod CSM factions, of course. Which some folks think might be on the horizon in 10th ed, with the upcoming release of Emperor's Children. if that army comes out and all the Slaanesh daemons are printed in there, you have your answer. (At the same time, this might also be a good reason to start collecting Blades of Khorne. The beserker models from AoS can be made to look like Berserkers in 40K with a little magnetizing of pistols and backpacks. I considered doing exactly that, with an eye for the Start Collecting box that included a bunch of neat proxies for 40K units, including a cool "Daemon Prince". Though that box is likely not getting new stock, so functionally removed.)
@EdwardWB97 nah daemons are getting shafted in 40k. It'll be like AoS, where they are divided up amongst the chaos factions, unfortunately. Also, they will probably lose some models like every other faction has done. It's why half the range is out of stock right now because they are about to make the transition with new boxes and the upcoming chaos codexes
As someone who loves the primitive/feral ork aesthetic, absolutely yes. Heck, I'd even throw them in with a mechanized more tech-y looking ork force. The lore is just that they're a bunch of random low-tech orks from a backwater feudal world that got swept up in a big WAAAAGH and came along for the ride. Do a bit of ketbashing and give some extra guns and you're good to go.
Yeah my gut instinct said no as well because the ardboys and wrekkaz read too AoS, but kitbashing the leader into a Kill Rig is a neat idea. I'm considering getting them for Orkperium where they can look kinda space marine like, but its a lot of work
Personally, I don't see "looks like Age of Sigmar" as really being a deal-breaker for 40K Ork conversions. It's not like anyone who comes to a 40K game is going to be confused about what army you're playing. Ironjawz aren't in 40K, Orks are. Rather, it really comes down to "do you personally like the AoS aesthetic" and "does this proxy _read_ as the 40K unit you're running it as".
Used the Savage Orruk boyz with some gubbins and sluggas for Beast Snagga boyz before. Never had anyone second guess them since Beast Snaggas are so closely related to the Snakebitez that the primal look works, and most people expect the Ork player to kitbash, lol.
Yeah, I think the presence of cyber parts on the Beast Snagga Boyz is an overstated problem for proxies. The fact the presence of same _needs to be pointed out repeatedly_ shows that no, most people do NOT notice it at first blush. Rather, they're more likely to identify the Beast Snaggas by their animal skins, bones, and shirtlessness. (Hence, by the shirtless Ironjawz units DO work for Beast Snaggas). Like, I don't know anyone besides Big Mek who doesn't think of Beast Snaggas as functionally just Snakebitez themed infantry.
I like the Beastsnaggaz but I never thought of them as true snakebites. Too many cybernetics. If anything, I would paint them in a space marine chapter's color and cal them Kommandoz. It's camoflage!
@rayslover8526 sorry, that is incorrect. The 8th Edition "Beast Snagga Army" was the Codex launch box and included BBoS, 20x Beast Snaggas, 4x Squighogs, and Zodgrod Wartsnagga. The Beast Snagga Stampede Battleforce was the 2023 Holiday box and included the BBoS, 4x Squighogs, 10x Beast Snaggas, and a Kill Rig. I own both boxes, as covered extensively in my army build series. The Stompa Boyz box was the Spring 2024 release after the new Codex. It did not correlate with any holidays.
Ok. So what was the big box with the stompa that came out recently? And I was thinking about the new combat patrol which was the beastnagga box, versus the old combat patrol which had the defkoptas.
I might have to add this Ironjaws battleforce (and possibly the Beast Snaggas battleforce) to my Christmas list Also if I remember correctly, 40k Orks had their own take on 'Ard Boys (basically just Ork Boys covered in ramshackle armor and equipped with a riot shield), so I'm thinking the Orruk Ard Boys could be converted into more 40k adjacent 'Ard Boys or even as Snakebite Boys of you want to
I’m not that into converting “fantasy” models into scifi models. Somehow they always have a too destinct look them. You’re better of looking into different manufacturers of even different factions within the same game/universe. Then you’re sailing in the same waters, but different regions. So the models will feel the same eventhough will look completely different.
It makes me so sad that htere's only a single Spearhead for the Orruk Warclans and it's not themed around the Ardboyz but around the swampy pseudo-LOTR-orks :(
