    Regarding the gap between the brake block and the wheels (9:53), when off, the brakes should be free moving, but the gap doesn't have to be of any particular size.
    As long as they are firm when applied and loose when off, they'll be fine.
    At least, that's my understanding as a locomotive fireman. An experienced waggon fitter may know more.

    • @WardleRestorations
      @WardleRestorations  2 роки тому

      Yeh most have said that the gap there is fine, I think once all the rust is off the wheels the gap might be slightly wider! Thank you for leaving a comment though!

    Just found your channel because of the brake van series and I've found it fascinating.
    As for livery ideas my first thought at the beginning of the video was engineers grey ( or Dutch as I've always known it as) but hearing how old it is I'd say either LNER lettering or go even older with either GER (Great Eastern Railway) or GNR (Great Northern Railway) depending on which company built it.
    Loving the series and I must go back to the Colne Valley at some point.

    Brake lever and destination board.
    Have to say if the brake comes off the wheels when released, and the mechansim doesnt bottom out when you put all your weight on the lever then it'll be fine. It's not like adjusting motorbike brakes.

    This is close to becoming a set, pretty soon you’ll need a loco! What a beauty you’ve got here, love the grey but could this van be done in a NER reddish brown? Looks similar to a banana van I’ve seen before, just not sure if it’s the same type of van. Can’t wait for future updates.

      Good spot, it is indeed the same design drawings as a banana van, so the possibility of that being the livery or at least an Eastern banana van livery is very high!

    A great new adventure, I'm partial to a box van or two myself! Missing words game, 1, Brake lever. 2. Label clip, and also, not being fitted it wouldn't have a lamp bracket on the end. I'm no GER expert, but, depending on how much you value originality, you'll need to build two sets of doors, the cupboard doors fitted were a RNAD addition for practicality and lightness.

    Hi Ollie, well done on obtaining your second railway vehicle. On the subject of liveries I would go RNAD grey this would match your brake van, as I am not sure on that the wagon doors are right for GER, you could check the style of doors on Press Steel Heritage's grounded GER van body at the railway or look at Oxford Rails new OO model. Also try the GER Society for help in numbers.

    • @WardleRestorations
      @WardleRestorations  2 роки тому

      Yeh the doors were a modification added by RNAD but I plan to take these off and replace them with the original doors. The current set are rotting badly on the bottom so they were going to need changing anyway!

    Quick Search online of this box wagon, unfortunately the photos are all black and white so almost impossible to tell what livery it carried haha but this was the info i found Built by the Great Eastern Railway at their works in Stratford,
    East London. Inherited by the LNER, becoming No.531199, sold out of use to the Royal Navy, for use at the Armament Depot at Gosport, Hampshire, carrying the identity RNAD 209.
    Gifted by the London Borough of Newham, to BESPS in 1996, Bar that i think this might have Carried a Grey Livery without any sort of branding

    I'd have doubt whether it is the original wood, planks would understandable get damaged through time.
    Edit: in your last shot of you in front of the van, the leaf spring to your left (behind the hand brake lever) looks to be almost on its stop, and the buffer height looks lower than the fish van next to it which could potentially be an issue.
