I would suggest you cover with a glass frame the RNAD sign on the inside to preserve its history; and not sand nor paint the framed area at all perhaps?
Dale here from 'across the pond'. You asked what use others would make of the box van so here's my take on that question. I would have the van sitting on a section of track near my home and would put an N scale layout all around inside it. Maybe even a double deck layout. I've always had that desire since I was in the 2nd grade (using an American caboose in my yard) but practicality and cost prevent such desires so it remains just that, a desire. Anyway, you asked, I responded despite it not being a practical idea. LOL. Great video series on the box van and the brake van. Keep them coming and good luck with your engineer (driver) training.
Wonderful to see you again! Your use of The space in the boxvan is great! i am a little annoyed by how the old wood is being panted over. and the old numbers. but i guess its gotta be done. Keep up the good work!
The navy numbers will be replicated on the outside or I can just paint around them! Glad you enjoyed mate! 🙂
If your going to be storing paints and thinners inside the wooden wagon you might want to get an actual flame cubbord as paints are extremely flammable and you should keep them in a flame tight cubbord to protect the wagon
I could list 10s of railways that keep paints in old box vans / outside storage but I see your point, going to need a very large flame tight cupboard to store it all though!

May be a little late but my suggestion is a fridge for the beers and the milk for the tea and coffee. the other is lots of electric power sockets above the counter / bench top. Six would be good you will not regret puting them in, Alleys needed to charge camera light battery's phones radio, laptop, And a few period posters for the walls any thing railway related as a back drop so any one looking at this channel for the fist time can see its railway otherwise its just you in a whir box, When filming its easy to forget what's behind you is just as important, framing and consideration to the hole picture is what transforms your channel from shaky ammeter to pro standard. Try to use a tripod as much as possible or a gimble, Stick to shooting in a standard way this will give you consistency which will make editing much easier and give your charnel a distinctive look or style. Best is to keep it simple, opening shot of you to camera bit of project , time laps/ interview / or drone more, project and closing piece to camera But most of all once you have a format dont change it to much this will speed up editing, and post regular even if its once a month or just a few minuets, Do this and you will have a cracking chenille, Sorey if Iv rambled on a bit but I really want you succeed to All the best.

good to see you back, but just a safety thing, as an electrically trained person historically, you don't want a female socket on the outside of the wagon as that mean you will need a plug that has exposed pins at 240v that plugs into it. that is not the best way to have it for obvious reasons. get a proper blue 240v plug and socket and extension lead is my recommendation. remember, when pugged in to the live supply, the free end should always be a female end so you can't touch live pins
Yes if you read the other comments / follow the Facebook page you’ll see I didn’t use the up to date photos in the edit, the plug pictured is for Christmas lights…

Hi Ollie Some good progress there, If your looking for a use for the van I would suggest make it a 'service van' for your Ruston 88DS , maybe keep small spares/parts/oil or lub's etc in case needed and maybe pair it up to the loco. Then if its raining you could still work on parts of bits of it undercover, just a thought. Good luck with it though. Thanks

LED light flicker - it depends on the refresh rate of the LED's, and the frame rate of your camera - so you can get steady light, as you have, flicker, or a slow fade up and down!
That explains it, just a flicker on a screen to me hahaha
i would make a apartment in there,, just coach, bed, lamp, table, microwave, counter. just to stay in while there

If it’s going to be used as a working vehicle may not be best fitting it out as a workshop or ‘chill area’ as loose items round that space could easily be damaged from rough shunting. As well as colne valley is a large site so as a working vehicle that could get moved round anywhere making it a bit of a pain to access for your workshop.
I’d suggest fitting some shelving and using it as a long term dry storage area for vehicle spare parts to give it the weight in the goods train and helping you out.
Thanks for the feedback! To be fair the vehicle will rarely move, and even then if it was to move it would more than likely be moved by myself and my loco!

I like your idea of turning part of this box van into a workshop area. The one coach with a cab end was interesting too. Was it originally a steam push-pull coach?
It’s actually a Gresley coach, designed as push pull I think but I’m not entirely sure so don’t quote me on it! Haha

Just to mention....you say you are supplying power to your van with "a plug outside" , but showed a socket...which you won't be able to use to power the van electrics. You ideally want a chassis mount 16A plug on the outside...then power it with a lead with a blue socket on the end. If you need help with this stuff just ask , I'd be more than happy to help. Cheers
Don't worry, I have a plug there too, i'll show it in the next update, this socket is for something very special around Christmas time!

Yes. The plug that goes into that socket will have LIVE exposed pins. Highly dangerous. I couldn't tell from the video, but the light switch should be a fused (5A fuse) switch.
@@henrybest4057 I mean technically if you were to plug the box van end in first then that wouldn't be an issue but either way thats not how power is going in, I will show correct photos on next update :)

I like to use the term closed van. What would I use the interior for? That's a hard question to answer. Let's see. If I were a closed van delivering something, what would I carry? I think I've got an idea. The closed van could be used to carry railway books and magazines. Yes, a Closed Van Library to deliver books and magazines to the station shops. Most closed vans are painted grey or brown on the outside in real life. I think this closed van should be painted sky blue, make it more child friendly. It should have a title, Colne Valley Railway Library, painted in silver letters on both sides of the body. This is the best idea I can come up with. I'm not sure how it would be achieved, but where there's a will there's always a way.
