Finally beat her solo this morning after doing about 6-8 hours of practice this weekend. As such I can’t tell you how happy it made me watching you launch her into the air and knock her down with that shield. Absolutely incredible fight!

I know you're known for your crazy LVL 1 boss runs but I really enjoy watching these vids where you're using a mix of different weapons and spells! I really like seeing what windows of opportunities you take advantage of to use certain spells/attacks that I would never have thought of and then trying it myself! The shield crash/Noble Presence into Catch Flame combo was so sick! Thanks for doing these and I hope to see more!
these cinematic non-challenge fights you've been doing are honestly the most fun showcases I've seen of the build variety in the game, especially since I'm about to go into NG+ and have been thinking about how to switch up the approach I developed over my first playthrough. Most "build" videos I've checked out just seem very limited to stacking buffs for one kind of minmaxed moveset, rather than having a multifarious toolset that someone might develop on their own. These videos are different and I really like them for that reason.
Yeah it's great to see things like Placidusax's Ruin (before the buff it got today which probably made it quite a bit better) or even just the Noble Presence here which I definitely haven't seen much of in boss fight videos.
I really recommend for new game+ to just do whatever you think is cool. I kind of got to the level where I can use any spell or weapon. And it's really fun to not do builds that are mostly just magic or just strength and just mix and mash stuff. Like I walked around doing spells, using a colossal weapon and a katana at the same time or just switch mid battle to like a whip or a dagger. You can do crazy things and some stuff might fail but some stuff might be amazing.
@@MrTerrorzone2012 yeah same I'm about to get to that point where I don't have to really worry about my build or stats, I've upgraded almost every weapon to max, and I've collected basically everything there is to get, so I'm just gonna switch up and do whatever I feel like whenever I feel like it on ng+. Should be fun.

Just finished the video and see that you did parry her in the second phase. Is that because she is just easier to parry or were there attacks you wanted to avoid by parrying her first?
Just for more variety :) You can play in second phase as in first phase, but I wanted to try Noble Presence and after riposte was perfect timing to use Noble Presence.
"Let Me Solo Her" might be able to kill her naked with Katanas and Jar head, but Ongbal is a true master who annihilates every boss in any setup, that is a true skill.
Exactly. Casual crowd thinks beating Malenia with katanas is hard. Bitch hits so hard anyway it's not like the armor is helping much anyway. I like that Ongbal does tons of builds with variety of bosses and doesn't just stay in one easy and tired lane like other people
People may sing praises on LMSH, but I always keep coming back to the true OG and bane of Malenia's existence. Also that casual circling onto Giant Hunt ( 1:02 - 1:06 ) .. absolute madlad I Also love the fact that Ongbal seems to have phases of his own, much like a true Boss of the game.. You'll get what I'm saying if you look closely how much he changed his pattern during Malenia's phase two.

In case some peeps don't know, NG+7 is THE hell mode. I'm on NG+3 and struggling even at lv 250, your max attributes does very little to the upgraded bosses. Amazed, simply amazed, what a legend gamer.
I literally just wiped 1h straight to her because I want to do her in my 2nd playthrough without any cheese mechanics.. I struggle so hard even in P1 so I log out... turn on youtube just to see this... It’s actually easy when you’ve already died a MILLION times in your first playthrough and now you know what to expect. Nothing surprises you anymore. Everything becomes easy at that point. And you’re good at the game with fast reaction time, so that makes things even easier. Nothing feels the same after that first BLIND walkthrough. Raw experience

I like these creative fights where you're combining a bunch of different tools to defeat the boss. It's not necessary to do it this way, but it's fun and almost artistic.

(Also Noble Presence is hilarious) Side note on the "How to dodge Waterfowl Dance" topic, since you seem to know Ashes of War and spells quite well considering how you use them, wouldn't there be an Ash of War / spell that could be used to stagger Malenia out of her Waterfowl Dance stance ? Charged Noble Presence seems to have a big explosion radius, maybe it could do the trick ? Or does Malenia have infinite poise / hyperarmor while in this stance and can't be staggered out of it except if you proc build / freeze ?
As you said, she gets super strong hyperarmor while Waterfowl Dance stance. So unfortunately, it seems the only way to cancel the Waterfowl Dance is to proc bleed or freeze.
Yea I tried pretty much everything to just hit her out of it from using strong spells to the biggest weapons. Even did stuff where me and my mimic or friends online hit her with everything we had to hit her out of that move just to see if we could. And we never did except for the few times we proc stuff like freeze without intended from the weapons we where using.
For anyone having issues with Malenia fight still. Try using throwing daggers/any ranged attack with low recovery. Notice that she has an ebb and flow to her combat. She fights, either you dodge her or you force her to dodge away, and then she waits (allowing you to heal/buff up). During that down time, throw a dagger to get her to dodge and aggress onto you, allowing you a free hit if you have nice range. If she backs off she usually goes into this "down time" phase also. I honestly don't have much experience fighting her, since I really didn't take too long to beat her when I got to her, although I've seen tons of videos on YT, but from my playing, it seems she really only does waterfowl at the start of these engagements. If you throw a dagger at her, instead of dashing toward you, she will jump up in the air, allowing you to easily dodge it. If you get hit by the first flurry, dodge towards her and she will jump over you and typically miss the second and dodge LATE for the third so you don't accidentally go into her. If you dodge the second attack really well, you may not even have to dodge the third at all since it has horrible tracking. Dodging Waterfowl completely is definitely hard, but surviving it isn't IMO. Cheers and good luck.

As you said, she gets super strong hyperarmor while Waterfowl Dance stance. So unfortunately, it seems the only way to cancel the Waterfowl Dance is to proc bleed or freeze.
Yea I tried pretty much everything to just hit her out of it from using strong spells to the biggest weapons. Even did stuff where me and my mimic or friends online hit her with everything we had to hit her out of that move just to see if we could. And we never did except for the few times we proc stuff like freeze without intended from the weapons we where using.

For anyone having issues with Malenia fight still. Try using throwing daggers/any ranged attack with low recovery. Notice that she has an ebb and flow to her combat. She fights, either you dodge her or you force her to dodge away, and then she waits (allowing you to heal/buff up). During that down time, throw a dagger to get her to dodge and aggress onto you, allowing you a free hit if you have nice range. If she backs off she usually goes into this "down time" phase also. I honestly don't have much experience fighting her, since I really didn't take too long to beat her when I got to her, although I've seen tons of videos on YT, but from my playing, it seems she really only does waterfowl at the start of these engagements. If you throw a dagger at her, instead of dashing toward you, she will jump up in the air, allowing you to easily dodge it. If you get hit by the first flurry, dodge towards her and she will jump over you and typically miss the second and dodge LATE for the third so you don't accidentally go into her. If you dodge the second attack really well, you may not even have to dodge the third at all since it has horrible tracking. Dodging Waterfowl completely is definitely hard, but surviving it isn't IMO.

Hopefully the big 1.04 changes will make things a lot more viable for you to keep having fun with a ton more non-standard options!
