I do not get why people think @ 185k miles the car should be complety worn out. I have driven VW/Audi diesels for 30 years and petrol's before that. I have done huge mileages. Even at 300k they can be great daily drivers. It is as long as they have been regularly serviced. I also do not understand why people check the number plates thinking replacement is a sign of crash damage. I have had to replace many original dealer fitted number plates due to them failing. Usually it is water ingress or sun damage or even a big stone hitting one.
It really depends on the owners but the odds or not really in your favour. It like loading more bullets in a gun when playing Russian roulette. I've got to 207k miles on a vehicle with no issues. I wouldn't trust someone else to do the same.
Number plates used to get broken by towing hitches.
New number plates on an old car can be like a facelift that really smartens the car up! Number plates that are worn out, faded, starting to delaminate, screw caps gone walk-about and the screws rusted and dribbled brown stains down...urgh! Replaced the originals on my 18 year old Audi (262,000 miles). Freshened it up no end. Kind of a shame to lose the original dealer marks, but no regrets, it takes years off the appearance! The old ones never got mentioned at MOTs, but I've seen plenty of advisories for bad plates on other cars. I'd be more surprised to see original plates still on a car over 10 years old, not exactly suspicious.
I have driven a Nissan Note e11 from 50,000 km to 300,000km.
Still spins like a top. Has as many more km left. And very reliable. Only changed the cvt gearbox as these were Nissan's first cvts that came with the gremlins.
A car is about how they are taken care of.
It will do another 185
Love this generation of the A6. The one with the 3.0 TDI engine and Quattro drivetrain is a beast. The car feels like a tank and feels better built than the newer A6's.
IDD I now drove one on the autobann 15 years ago 260 Tank
One guy driving audi a6 c7 told me that c6 was way more stiff, less plastic.... Much more premium.
I have one A6 Avant 3.0 TDi quattro and i would never give it away
Owned one and now im driving a BMW 3 series, kind of miss the "tank" sometimes
I prefer the 3.0TFSI engine
Shows that sometimes you can still get a genuine bargain.
You can!
Genuine question: Did you buy this at trade price px or private sale?
@@Cheezy083 10:21
It helps if you are a car dealer and taking in part exchanges ,which this one was .
@Bernard not at the moment
This is real wheeler dealer stuff. Big fan of this sub £3k end of the market. Other than a rental car, these are the cars you can enjoy the most as a driver, as you never really have any worries about the car. If it goes bang, do you really care that much. Liberating driving such a car.
Good point
Exactly this.. ..Had a 2.2 Omega estate, bought for just £800 with 147,000 on the clock and everything worked. I put 40000 on it with no problems as a workhorse,, well serviced but then alternator went, changed it and it developed a "choking" problem the moment it hit 60mph and hit limp mode. Tried sorting with a fair few things and all it did was make it fast through to 60mph tyhen boom back into limp. Couldnt be bothered any more and got rid but lovely car for the money.
A friend of mine refers to this as 'Bangernomics' - the economics of driving a cheap car vs. the headaches of financing a new car or the heartache of running something with a couple of years' depreciation.
Totally agree - the fun part is, how long can you keep it going with just servicing and consumables?
Personally I get too attached to cars and suddenly find myself replacing worn trim and booking them into my local bodyshop to get them perfect - so in practice this doesn’t work for me, but for example my brother in law bought a 65k mile 59 plate mk7 Firsta TDCI Titanium last year for £1800. I serviced it, replaced a few worn badges / bits of trim and also a few mechanical bits for the MOT, total cost £2100. He now has a reliable car that costs comparatively nothing to insure, tax and fuel that he’ll keep going until it dies - and is worth a few hundred quid more than this should he ever need to part with it, as they seem to have risen in value recently! That’s good Bangernomics for sure, as he isn’t sentimental like me!
This is always the price point i go for , I could afford a new car ,But by going in to this end of the market its more fun
Have a "Bangernomics" section on your website. Make it a positive feature (the longer you can keep a car running the less environmental impact etc - I mean how long till we have the equivalent of dieselgate for EV's?).
There's definitely a niche market for this type of car. Every time I see a Volvo 240 I get a weird Serotonin hit...
Ah but is there real money in doing that though in the long term? Cars like this are pretty complicated so at this mileage it’s a risk for a dealer.
You need to do a Top 5 of cheap buys at the end of 2022, That's a bargain !
love how good shape the interior is in considering the miles, real Audi build
these cars are amongst the last well built audis, being driven in a later gen C7 it felt a bit less sturdy.
@@martin1649 is the 2012.13 A6 are reliable like this one?
Great video, Matt - its qualities are very apparent, especially given your evaluation and service... What an excellent buy for someone seeking a comfortable saloon with no prospective depreciation and a full service + history! 👍
I really enjoy these videos, love seeing how you work through the prospect. Clever chap for sure.
This is a great car for 2K. I owned an 09 Reg Avant TDIe Multitronic for 3 years and 50K miles. Drove it all over the UK and other than a cracked rear coil spring it was faultless. A well built motorway cruiser. Cheap to insure and cheap enough to tax. Traded it in for a 2012 Avant but always felt the C7 wasnt quite as well put together as the C6. Great video Matt.
If I still lived in the UK I would have that from you in a heartbeat! I've always had a fondness for Audi ever since I was Audi brainwashed as an apprentice back in 2003 haha
I have a 2007 2.0 TDi one with the PD engine which I bought at 2 years old with 17k miles on it. It's 6 speed manual and is a 20-30k a year workhorse, and it's still going strong at 322k miles and looks like new when it's clean. The secret is regular servicing and the best oil and fuel. If you look after these cars they're virtually bomb-proof!
You've driven a lot!
@@zzoinks Less these days, used to be 30k miles a year but now only about 22k. It's now done 330k miles at 15 years old, 13 years and 313k miles by me. Did 350 miles in the day last Thursday with work, never missed a beat, aircon on full, 50MPG average at a steady 70mph. Like I said, it's been pretty indestructable!
My son had an A6 2,4 auto few years ago we loved it so smooth and comfortable.
I had a 2011 example of one of these. Had the better, bigger wheels, 170bhp and heated seats. Absolutely loved it. Best motorway car I've owned. Would have another in a heartbeat.
why did you get rid of it?
Hi Matt, great content. Not sure if it's been suggested before but what about a series where you start at say £1000 and see how far you can go flipping car's?? With your contacts and experience so forth I think I would be make great viewing.
I've got a high mile A6 2.7 TDI, decent enough but can have electrical issues with all the sensors they have. I think there will be another cup holder underneath the armrest weirdly enough.
The most daft place to put it
As you’ve sold someone has a bargain that will just keep going thanks to Audi build quality. Great video, and just shows there’s life in some cars still, which saves them getting scrap, and someone gets enjoyment out of them.
Nice review and good car. Did you check if the belt had been changed?
excellent video which really appeals to the masses. Cars at this price are what really grabs the attention of genuine people. It would be great to see you do a video with something like this as a winter beater project with a couple of modifications.
As usual a very nice and well made video. The problem is that you are a honest guy and your way of thinking is the right one. In reality, there are thousands of scammers trying to sell you awful wrecks, hiding the true issues behind a good valeting.
Same with dealers too though, works both ways. Not to mention every car a dealer sells is for a price more than a car is worth (ofc to make profit) so both sides can be equally untrustworthy
Love a good Audi, and whilst this isn't going to excite you or blow anyone away with its blistering 136bhp, it's a good example of a very good car! I'm sure if you hadn't had a go with it yourself, there are plenty of traders who would have given you a couple of hundred quid wages on it and retailed it themselves at £2495. Just because it's not necessarily your stock profile, doesn't mean it isn't the next man's! Love it Matt. Keep up saving old motors!
Such a good channel. Great choice of cars and your honesty shines through.
I don't know where I was these last few years, but I've just discovered your work and I love it. I like how you analyse, are very knowledgeable and confident. Definitely be a subscriber from now on. This is a great car from how you've put it. In Kenya, that would cost no less than 10k pounds
My father-in-law has a 59 plate A6 Avant with over 250,000 miles on the clock (no exaggeration), he has had a few things go like the turbo, oil pump, electric handbrake (common on these) that have been replaced but altogether it's been a great workhorse for him and still runs perfect. This gen A6 feel like tanks.
Hello again. Matt it looks a very smart car considering thew age and miles, as it was used for driving across France the previous owner was wise to look after it. Regards, RichardA.
As you say, if fully maintained those pd tdi engines last and last. It’s usually the comfort module in the passenger footwell that suffers due to water ingress, sticky fuel gauge, front suspension arms and wheel arch rust, to name a few, but the interiors are incredibly durable, especially the leather.
I’m surprised the air conditioning worked. A good few years of cheap motoring there👍🏻
This is not a PD TDI, it's already a CR!
I'm very tempted! Will be refreshing your website until it pops up.
Love these vids, they are so helpful when buying a whip
I have an older one of these, a 2006 with the PD 2.0 TDI engine and the dreaded CVT(which I actually really like). I think it has done about 350,000 miles, not sure exactly as the clocks were changed before I owned it. I have driven it for the past 5 years and I will keep it until it falls apart, and then I'll get a Phaeton.
How is the CVT, has it been replaced previously? I would suppose so the multitronic were some of the worst cvts reliability wise, but they aren't terrible to drive
@@nicholasbabeaux2052 I have a 2010 Audi A5 2.7 Tdi with a multitronic transmission. I currently have 315,000 and in one year I have driven 70,000 km. For multritronic gearboxes, what they say is not true at all. What matters is how the car is maintained. but some people don't do that and when it dies then the car doesn't work properly.
@@vladimirbc93 have you had to transmission fluid changed? I have contradictory advise on this with the VW/Audi 'lifetime' sealed units from mechanics. Wondering what real-world owner experience is.
@@daispy101 of course. I changed the oil every 60,000 km. and in the engine every 10 to 15,000. the authorized service will not recommend it to you because they can't wait for something to die so they can charge you 5 times more.
@@daispy101 I believe Multitronic units from Audi were supposed to be serviced down to replacing the chain?!
My dad had an A6 Avant TDI from 2017 to 2020. He drove it to Dublin Ireland cos he used to work there.
But it had some problems, so he had to sell it in 2020.
Well done!! Another great video!!
Cars have come a long way in recent years! It's amazing even at that mileage. That would make a brilliant car for someone on a budget. I almost wish I needed a different car otherwise I would have bought it off you! Great video 📹 👍
The motorway road surfaces are usually well kept so wear and tear on the suspension and tyres should be relatively minimal together with little use of gearbox and a hot running engine should help keep the car in good nick.
I’m genuinely perplexed on how you brits can have such amount of car for such a low price. This costs more than ten times the amount here in Portugal.
Granted we have no kinds of rust issues and take a bit better care of our cars, but still.
Having a whole semi-recent audi a6 for a price of a clutch is bonkers!
Bigger population and people like to switch cars more often I guess
High yearly road tax, MoT test every year and the UK national contempt for "old" cars, especially old "prestige" cars, which are associated with drug dealers and gypsies.
People in the UK are mad they just change cars because they get bored. My friend has had about 7 cars I've kept the same car. He had a bmw 3 series then audi a6 avant bmw another audi 2.7d then a jag xjr . A 1 series bmw now a 4 series. I still have my 2011 mondeo titanium-x
Always look forward to watching your videos
I'm one of your big fans from Nigeria even though I just recently liked and subscribed to your channel. I love your honesty in car reviews and repairs. I'm a Telemarker hoping to own my first car someday. Following your UA-cam channel everyday gives me more Faith. Thanks!
You can do it!
In my experience, dual mass flywheels rattle and clatter WITHOUT the clutch depressed, putting the clutch in usually stops the noise.
Correct, the rattle stops when the clutch is pressed in. Great car though
Great video, these cheaper steals are always interesting to watch. Any reason why you didn't service the diesal/fuel filter?
At 11:39 he says it had a fuel filter as part of the service
This is why I love this channel 👍👍
It's so kind of all these people to deliver all these cars to the same car park.
It’s still a great looking car and that engine is awesome delivering great economy and power. You got yourself a bargain.
Matt, I know you're no fan of this generation A6 and I'd agree the standard VAG front wheel drive setup makes the drive a touch dreary. However, I'd say based on build quality alone, this C6 generation A6 is the pick of the Audi/Bm/Merc trio of its time. They are beautifully constructed and have the tightest panel gaps, interiors are also top-notch and hide their miles so well. Cambelt/waterpump changes are inexpensive and don't cause mechanics any headaches, beyond that there's not much else to worry about other than DMF and avoiding the multutronic gearbox. If you don't mind putting the fuel in, the V6 diesel is glorious.
When you've owned and done considerable mileage in all 3 of the german trio of this generation pretty much in succession, you really appreciate where the A6 excels. The E60 5 series, especially the early ones were flaky at best and didn't drive as well as the E39. An equivalent E class with 4 pot diesel and manual gearbox is nothing to write home about. The best drive of the lot with bags of feel good factor is the Jag XF, although at this age they are criminally unreliable, as I've discovered.
As an all-rounder that does everything perfectly adequately you can't beat an old A6. I'd go against the grain if I had another and buy an SE over an S-line, much nicer ride.
Keep up the good work. 👍
Its feels heavy but floats on the motorway
@@Mrs-NWA Yes Audi's multitronic is their take on a CVT box. The conventional tiptronic 6 speed auto is the one to go for designated to Quattro models only.
Try driving a 6 pot LCI E60 and you wouldnt look twice at the boring A6. Superior build quality, handling, comfort, looks and performance IMO
Great video as always. Guess what cars I’ll be looking at on autotrader tonight 🤦🏻♂️
Brilliant video again:)
Love watching and learning about all these different cars :) your very knowledgeable
Thank you :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
Looks like a great car, amazing how much motor you can get for no money
Nice to see you winning again Matt, your commitment to keeping good cars on the road is commendable. All the best from Mauritius, where this A6 would cost from 6k to over 10k, cos the car tax is so flippin' astronomical.
In Kenya, it would cost up to 15k 😅😅. Taxes!
My dad has one of these l, he bought it for 5k back in 2012 and he keeps it abroad when he goes back home, never had any major problems truly an amazing car
Top work that man great vid again
I had one many yrs ago, best car I've ever had. The whole family always felt comfortable travelling in it.
The cars in uk are dirt cheap, I payed 2200€ for a 1997 golf 3 variant with more than 600k kilometers on it, which had gotten a paint job and was so rusty that I had to do a lot of repairs, here in Macedonia cars are so expensive plus the min wage is 3300€ a year.
My first car was a 2.0 TDI A6 c6. Pre facelift. Was a fantastic car but killed by the common oil pump issue
Thank you for finally doing an a6, they are great cars
That looks and sounds a very solid buy for someone, well played. The interior looks to have lasted very well in particular. If the new owner stuck a cheap private plate on it, nobody would really know!
Hi Matt. Great to see one of these Audi A6 C6 cars getting a High Peak review especially because I own a 2006 Avant model. I can honestly say that this is the best car I've ever owned and I've had BMWs and Mercs in the past. Yes it's a bit bland in the styling department and 2.0tdi isn't going to get the pulse racing. But they are well built and extremely reliable. If you do want your heart beat racing try the RS6 C6 with the 4.2 Lambo derived engine!!! 😜
Got the same car and it's better and more reliable than any Merc of the same age. A remap goes a long way too....
Loving the content!!!
Looks so neat. Beautiful car. I got an 3.2 petrol and it goes so smooth on the highways.
A hell of a lot of car for the money! I'm absolutely baffled by the way some people spec these cars. I recently bought a 10-year-old A5 coupe. It looks stunning - the original buyer splashed out on the S-Line Black Edition styling, big wheels, phantom black pearl effect paint and thankfully paid about 2k for the then top-spec mmi system - the total would have been in excess of 36k I believe - but then they failed to add essentials like cruise control and folding mirrors which would have only cost a few hundred quid extra! No heated seats either! At least it looks good.
Yea same on my 2015 m235i, they went for the carbon spoiler and sunroof, but no parking sensors anywhere…
Sometimes I find odd spec cars are dealer demonstrators ordered to show off certain options. My Touran is just such a car and has some great options but missing a few I would definitely have ordered new!
Nice video and a very honest review of a good car. Probably already sold.
Thanks! 👍 It has :)
@@HighPeakAutos How much did it do for Matt if you don't mind me asking ? great video pal .
There is a second cupholder under the armrest, Matt.😉 I am driving one of these with the 3.0 diesel engine. As a station wagon, perfect family car.
Really nice car, Matt, and brought up to spec for very little money. I'm sure you'll make a few bob on this one.
It sure looks like the car was used for motorway driving. The wear is minimal. The seller’s story adds up which is pretty rare. I think its a good buy!
It is rare, you’re right
I've owned a 2010 A6 3.0 TDi Quattro Le Mans [230BHP] since 2013 and it's been bulletproof. Bought it with 132k and done 175k now. Never broken down or not started. The aircon works [with zero maintenance] too! Recently had all the exterior chrome wrapped matt black, Audi badges too, and it's transformed the exterior. Love the car.

Glad you like them!
I’d be happy to buy this, only if it could be shipped to India at a reasonable cost 😅😅
Nothing wrong with these motors. I'm an audi fan boy but they are bomb proof like the A3. Much better built than the other German cars
👍
Good fun being on the road to get a new 'quick flip'!
And smooth partner integration. Thank you Matt😎
Perhaps start a new budget car lot for the projects.
Thats a good idea actually!
I like your honesty on the pricing. Fair play mate.
My dad use to have a "too good for scrap" corner which basically had cars similar to the A6 with higher mileage, some minor cosmetics and taking potential replacements into accounts. Usually sell it on cheap but still make a profit. Usually on more popular branded cars like Ford, VW, Nissan, Toyota etc. You'll usually find the right customer if they either want a cheap motor to get them by or to make it into a project car.
Wow, in Poland you would probably have to pay 5k+ pounds for an A6 like this one
In Spain too
@@HighPeakAutos indeed
A Polish ex partner had brothers who used to import cars from Belgian auctions to Poland. I was always staggered how much they went for in Poland.
You can get easy 8 in Croatia. Guess it is the right hand drive that lowers the price cause you can't sell it on continent.

Out of curiosity what do you think of the Nissan qashqai 2010 to 2012 face-lift one 1.5dci? Assuming there are so many of them on the road they must be half decent in terms of reliability

I had one very similar to this (same year and colour too) but it was the Avant. I still miss it, it was bomb proof. I only sold it as it had a 3l diesel engine and we'd switched careers to working from home in 2016.

I used mini cab in London in an A100 Audi way back in the 80 s .5 cylinder diesel ,and another one petrol .Sliding sun roof .Loved those cars .
In general Audi’s leave me a bit cold, I used to like the understated air they had about them but latterly not so much. No denying they are quality cars though. I reckon there’s a decent profit to be had on this one 👍🏻
Crazy how such a good car is worth almost nothing… Shame about the Ultra low emission zones, this car is restricted to only rural areas now
Nothing like a High Peak Autos video to chillax to after a day in torrents of rain on a dumptruck. Thanks pal!
Thanks for watching!
You do okay with this car, looks decent motor. Love your videos.
Had my A6 3.0TDI Quattro 10 years.Absolute love it.Great fun in the snow.220k now and still going strong
I got the 3.0T le mans edition, same year, with the supercharged V6 from the S4 and its a cracking car. So solid. Been remapped well within tolerances to 400hp. The way it delivers torque from low revs makes it a very quick car in real world terms. Gearbox feels its age but its durable unlike the DSG s-tonic units from the C7.
If you're looking at one of these (manuals are rare) avoid the s-tronic models and look for the tiptronic (zf 6 speed in c6 and 8 speed in c7)
I've got the avant C6 with 132k on it, well put together, cheap to to run quiet cruiser. Forget electric, these will go for ages, great review of a great car.
Love your work 👍
Wouldn't mind one of these as a A-B errand car. I love the A6 line C6 and above. My favourite is the C7, just for that interior design and LED daytime running lights, plus the fact it still looks like a new Audi to this day. The C6 is very Germanic on the inside. Reminds me of my mates 2005 Golf. I'm a Lexus guy, but I love these late 2000s & early 2010 Audi executive sedans. Need to educate myself a bit more on the specific engines and trim models, because I would love to drive one.
a6 c6 is great car, one of the best audio built after 2000

Hey. great video Matt. Need a good car - this might suit!
I owned a 2.7TDi quattro A6, owned it for 8 years, did 150k miles, it was totally reliable, until the engine blew at 250k. loved it! wanted a engine swap, but could no one who wanted to take it on.
Love these videos - but would also love an update if car is sold? Just a thought but great stuff 👍🏻
That is quite a nice example to be honest. It looks to have been serviced very well so it'll yawn at 185.000 miles. That's nothing for those engines. I think that you should get quite good money for it, so regardless, it'll have been a worthwhile exercise. Great content 😀
Great video, I do like the A6 especially the less well speced models funnily enough.
Yes I like this Audi A6 a very ok car . Glad you did not scrap this car I think there is still a few years in this car.
