From his first solo album Street Talk. He wrote this for his girlfriend Sherrie Swafford. That is her in the video. They we were together 5 1/2 years. Check out Foolish Heart and Strung Out from this album.
Actually mainly written by Randy Goodrum with imput front Steve. Randy had it mostly written before Steve called him about someone he knew, and they put her name in there. She was jealous when Journey used a college model for Separate Ways so this was appeasement. There is a video on UA-cam in which Randy tells the story.
He was in love with this girl for over 5 years. They broke up the same year as his mom's passing, the same year he left Journey and began a solo career. It was a difficult time for him.
Not quite accurate. They broke up in 1985, a year after his solo album came out (Street Talk, including this song). He left Journey in 1987. You are correct that they broke up the same year his mom passed.
@RustyHinge I think people get confused about when Steve "left" Journey: there was three years between Frontiers and Raised on Radio, where both Steve and Neal did solo projects. Then there were ten years before they reunited for Trial by Fire, and then he left for good.
Loved your reaction to "Oh, Sherrie!" This beautiful song is from his solo album "Street Talk," which came out in 1984. The lady in the video was his actual girlfriend Sherrie Swafford and they were together for almost six years until they broke up..I'm a huge fan of Steve Perry and Journey, so thank you so much for doing reaction videos to their amazing songs. It's so nice to see the younger generation discovering just how amazing their music is. ♥
He was still with Journey but did a solo album Too. Long version of Foolish Heart shows rest of Journey waiting in back room and he joins them after the performance.
Yeah, 'Oh Sherrie' is from Steve Perry's first solo album 'Street Talk' 1984. Also from this album......'Foolish Heart, Strung Out, She's Mine and Captured By The Moment!!' And YES!!! That is 'Oh Sherrie', Steve's girlfriend/ex Wheel In The Sky reaction to either official video or live from Houston or live 1980 in Osaka
I was so proud to be a Sherrie and to have none other than Steve Perry singing my name! I was over the moon! 🥰😍 I am so sure all the Sherri's felt this way! Of it is one my top favorite songs sung by him. Hey Sherry's! 💜
"Oh Sherrie" was written for Perry's then-girlfriend, Sherrie Swafford, and appeared on his debut solo album, Street Talk. The song was about the ups and downs of a relationship and became Perry's biggest hit as a solo artist.
I was about 12 years old when I heard Wheel in the Sky on MTV. I'd never heard Journey before didn't know who they were but I was instantly hooked by Steve's voice.... And have been in love with it ever since. I call it my Audio Xanax, because it seems to fill and calm my soul just listening to him
Man, back in that day, my ideal goal for my singing voice was a cross between Steve Perry and Anne Wilson of Heart. I may or may not have gotten there 💯 but if you’re going to go for something, it might as well be the best.
It’s not a journey song it’s a Steve Perry he had a solo career after journey l love Steve Perry the voice best singer in the world 🌎💯. Your reactions are priceless.
My metalhead husband LOVED 😍 this song 😂 !! I've been a huge Journey fan since highschool, and it was nice to see him appreciate Steve's amazing vocals!! ❤❤❤
it's a solo project - with back up session/studio musicians. He has another album in the 90s - the entire album of "For the Love of Strange Medicine" is amazing vocals.
This is from Steve Perry's first solo album when he took a mini break from Journey and ended up being a very successful album. Because obviously he was very successful in Journey. And so everybody knew that voice. So, the next song you should listen to is his ballad from this solo album called "Foolish Heart" you'll love that one. And the blonde in the video is was his real girlfriend. At the time her name was Sherri and she was aspiring actress. I think she got with him because she thought he could get her career popping. Cause he was Steve Perry and so he brought her in the video to try and get her some exposure. I think because it didn't really work. Maybe Sherri didn't know about the real Hollyweird industry worked back at that time in 1994. And their relationship dissolved. She just wanted a lot from him at the height of his career and so they had to end it. I think she couldn't handle long distance relationship because he was always on the road.
1:10 It’s funny how things have changed on how people look for songs. I remember just buying the album, listening to the whole thing, reading the liner notes, etc. We also had music magazines that gave us so much on the bands.
There are some beautiful ballads from Steve Perry/Journey - one I just thought of was When You Love A Woman - the lyrics are so touching and with his vocals…you have to see the video - the melody and background vocals - even strings were added to this song - it is a gorgeous, gorgeous piece of music, definitely wedding/Valentine’s Day vibes.
Yes. He did this one outside of Journey. Around the same time -the guitarist in Journey -Neil Schonn worked on a solo project & it got released. I think Neil might have even done his first. Anyhow. I couldn't tell you anything about Neil's solo project. Oh Sherrie, on the other hand made it to number 2 on billboard charts. This song was played ALOT on the radio back then. It's catchy. And, yes, his vocals in the opening ❤!
When Steve was trying to come up with an idea for this video, he said directors were coming up with these wild ideas for the video. Steve said, what do women in leather wearing dog collars have to do with a love song!? That's how he came up with this video.
This is said in a loving way, "BP, your first clue that this is a Steve Perry solo is that there are no other Journey band members to be seen anywhere". If this was actually Journey, you know they will set their butts up behind Steve and of course credit for the song.
I love Steve Perry's solo album Street Talk. Foolish Heart is another great song from that album. Another song that I think that will surprise you is from Journey's Frontiers album. It's called Troubled Child. Their may not be a video for it though. Frontiers is one of my favorite Journey albums which included several Journey hits including Faithfully and Send Her My Love. Troubled Child never became a big hit but it really is a masterpiece. Worth listening to even without a video.
Yeah this is his solo stuff. The girl in the video is Sherry. You should also check Dennis Deyoung's solo stuff too. Dennis was the lead singer of Styx
This is from his solo album Street talk, which has some great songs too. Sherrie the girl in the video was his real life girlfriend at the time, this song was written about her. 😎👌🏻🎸❤️
Steve Perry, just released a NEW video today “What A Wonderful World”, the first single from Steve Perry’s expanded holiday album, The Season 3 out November 8 on Dark Horse Records. And more to come! Steve Perry still giving us that beautiful Voice, such a gift!
What WHAAAAAAAT!!!! Peg, my man! Steve Perry has the voice of An Angel. Only the Young by Journey is the song I play before I go for a jog. It’s a song from the movie Vision Quest. And gets me absolutely so pumped, them city streets don’t stand a chance at me pounding the pavement after that song!!!!
The first time I saw MTV afterschool at my friends house (they had just gotten cable!! lol) this was the video we watched. We swooned like teenage girls do pledging our love tonSteve and that we could make him much happier than Sherrie! And pick a way better wedding veil!
I absolutely love steve perry. Grew up with his music. I still get that nostalgic feeling in the pit of my stomach whenever i heat his music. Number 1 in my book.
When this came out in 1984, I was a jouster at the NY Renaissance Festival. Our Queen's real name was Sherry so we found this video just that much more fun.
Hey BP, I mentioned this a few Journey reactions ago lol. Steve had a solo career after Journey split in the early 80’s and has 3 solo albums. Journey’s guitar player Neal Schon went to form a new band with John Waite (who had the hit solo song Missing You), they formed a band called Bad English-who were really good and underrated. 3 albums later they split and Journey got back together, found a Fillipino singer through a karaoke video/singing contest in the Philippines that went viral online and sounded similar to Steve Perry so they contacted him to audition. He (Arnel Penida) is now and has been their lead singer for a few decades now and they still tour. Been this year with Def Leppard, awesome concert…that story in itself it wild. How they found him and him taken Steve’s spot. Wheel In the Sky is also a Journey song however.
His voice has been my savior, per say, since i first heard him in 1977 at 13 with the song ,Wheel in Sky. The best video for that song was taped in germany. Look up that one. And before him i grew up listening to Sam Cook. . And everyone that has followed steve thru his life of music knows Sam was how he learned to sing the way he does.
My man was solo! Btw, he has just dropped 2 new to him tune for his third season holiday album. The man is nearing 76 now. New label, new album drops 11/8!

Yes! Please cover Wheel in the Sky. The video where he is wearing the white polyester suit..or maybe light blue..is the best one (IMO). Wheel in the Sky is my favorite. I think it's his best song to show off his vocals.
Oh Sherrie, is from Steve Perry's solo career. Wheel in the sky, is Steve Perry's Journey days. A must listen to from his solo days is, Foolish Heart, his vocals are Pure Brilliance! ❤
"Oh Sherrie" is the debut solo single by American singer Steve Perry. Written by Perry, Randy Goodrum, Craig Krampf and Bill Cuomo, the song was recorded and released on Perry's first solo album Street Talk in 1984, which he released while still a member of Journey. The song is often regarded as an "honorary" Journey song, being credited to the band on several hit compilation albums and in other media, largely due to its resemblance to the band's trademark sound, as well as their performances of the song on the Raised on Radio Tour, which proved to be Perry's live swansong with the band. The track is composed in the key of F major with a time signature of 4 4, following a tempo of 120 beats per minute. The song was Perry's biggest hit as a solo artist and written for his then-girlfriend Sherrie Swafford, who also appeared in the music video. The song hit number three on the pop chart and number one on the rock chart in the United States, partly aided in its success by a music video released to promote the song, which received heavy airplay on MTV. Two of the song's co-writers and supporting musicians, Bill Cuomo and Craig Krampf, earlier performed on Kim Carnes' signature song "Bette Davis Eyes" in 1981. Cuomo, who performed the keyboard riff on "Oh Sherrie," was the musician responsible for the keyboard riff on "Bette Davis Eyes", and Krampf was the drummer on "Bette Davis Eyes" while Larrie Londin was the drummer for "Oh Sherrie". Cuomo, Krampf and Perry had started composing the song at approximately midnight with little more than the simple chorus of "Oh Sherrie" and "Hold on, hold on" plus a few simple sounds. Swafford had been in the room with them initially, but had gone to sleep because of the late hour.
As a non Journey/Steve Perry fan, I do recognize the greatness in the art of the music and visuals in the videos. I jus might add this to my play list now...thanks a lot Black P.! 🙄Hahaha..great reaction once again. 40!
He has another really fantastic solo song called Foolish Heart. No elaborate video - just vocal PERFECTION. That WAS his girl Sherrie at the time.
Beat me to it. Good on you! ❤❤❤
Yup. Sherrie Swafford.
Foolish Heart is great too, yes!!❤❤
Foolish Heart was another great song from his solo career.
Sherry actually wanted SP to put this one out first!
@@BigMikesBMW - also on his Street Talk album.

This is Steve on his solo journey! (See what I did there)? 🤣 He has just as many bangers solo as he does with Journey! Love them all!
Absolutely!!!
😂😂😂
🤣😇🥰
Your joke is bad and you should feel bad!

Steve and Sherrie are still friendly. While they broke up years ago, he left his share of the royalties from "Oh Sherrie" to Sherrie.
This is not Journey!! This is just Steve!!🎵🎼🎶🤘🥁🎙🎸🎹🎤🎧🔥🔥🔥

“Foolish Heart” is great, just him and a microphone.

“Oh Sherrie” was Steve Perry’s 1st solo hit.
You got right. He is from Journey, however, he left the group years ago and became a solo artist....Enjoy, this is my favorite by Steve
He was still with Journey but did a solo album Too. Long version of Foolish Heart shows rest of Journey waiting in back room and he joins them after the performance.
Wheel In The Sky from Journey is amazing, make sure to get the video because it shows at one point Steve harmonizing with the guitar solo.
Yes!!
I love this song! Foolish Heart is amazing as well ❤
Sweet and simple by journey
Oh yes ❤
Steve Perry is known as THE VOICE, he is the GOAT ,GREATEST OF ALL TIME. he left the band in the 90s and didn't sing again until 2000s .
I remember when this song came out how much I loved it. I played it endlessly… Guess what? Still not sick of it! This is fire.

Gotta do She's Mine & Foolish Heart. Two absolute beautiful Perry solo songs!
This was such a huge hit for Mr. Perry, it was ridiculous how popular this song was. Fun song for sure.
Steve leaving Journey sent shockwaves through my junior high at the time, but everyone LOVED this song!

It’s crazy how he sings these lyrics. Look how he sings some of these words with such a unique and beautiful way.
