what a classic hit, its one of my favorite classic rock songs and in my opinion it is a underated song. I still get goosebumps listening to it to this day
This was my favorite song for a good while when I was young. The woman in the video is Sherrie Swafford. They really were together and she was actually extremely camera shy. I think all of that comes across pretty clearly in the video. The song is actually about their boundless emotional angst throughout the course of their relationship, which burnt out as a result just as intensely as it had endured. The reason why his words and singing seem sincere is because every bit of it was real. I like how, although she's rather elegant and fairly well put together, there is a level of dorkiness to her that makes her more real than people in media and entertainment today. It was the eighties and everyone, including those many considered perfect, had some kind of flaw that we didn't all run out and get surgery for as well as the fact that, although much about the style of the time was cool and aesthetically pleasing, there was a certain element of clunkiness to that, too. For example, her appearance is sophisticated enough, and then suddenly you see these jarring red tights. There's something wholesome about all of it that I miss. I always said, too, and haven't been proven wrong yet: it was the last, at least outwardly, innocent decade.
And Journey Captured (Live 1981) is still on my top 10 albums ever. I was fortunate enough to see them in 1981. I think oh Sherrie pales in comparison to most of the Journey material.
Steve Perry is one of the greatest male singers of all time. He was also the lead singer for the band Journey for many years. You should check out some of their greatest hits. I promise you won't be disappointed, and would be willing to bet you'll be adding some of their music to your playlist.
I think he made a valuable statement with this video. I know that producers and directors get paid to make music videos larger than life. It's okay to use artistry to enhance a song that's already good. But if you need the production to generate interest, you're kind of missing the bigger point. If the song can't stand on its own merit, maybe the song isn't really that good.
No, Sherrie is still living. In the 1980s Perry dated Sherrie Swafford, for whom he wrote the 1984 song "Oh Sherrie". In 2011, Perry began a relationship with psychologist and breast cancer survivor Kellie Nash. He was by Nash's side as she battled a cancer recurrence, and she died in December 2012.
I know I'm late to the game. I'm sure you've read that the woman in the video was Steve's girlfriend at the time. He obviously wrote it for her, but this song wasn't Sherrie's favorite song on the album. It was Foolish Heart. When you watch this video, know that the video and the studio version were recorded at the same time, so it is essentially a live recording. ua-cam.com/video/S9iTAYYAybI/v-deo.htmlsi=-zvvFeUgX2KTF6Je
Great singing. 🤯Written by Steve Perry and Randy Goodrum. 45 years ago 🎂, RG wrote You Needed Me for Anne Murray. When the 2 men met each other. RG thought he was writing with a member of Aerosmith. But his daughter got her poster of Journey and pointed to SP! 🤯 RG 😕 mixed up SP with Joe Perry! L 🤣 L Same year. RG wrote Who's Holding Donna Now for Debarge. Suggested videos 📷 1 Steve Perry sings Foolish Heart. 2 Anne Murray sings You Needed Me 3 Debarge performs Who's Holding Donna Now.
That girl on this video was his irlfriend, named sherie. Hey sarah, you should listen to promises in the dark by pat benetar, i can tell you will dig it.
It's a great song, but they eventually broke up. In an interview some 25 years after this video was made, Perry said they were "crazy in love," but he never talks about Sherrie and their relationship.
This is his most famous solo song, but that entire album was far better than this song in ym opinion. Running Alone, Foolish Heart, and She's Mine are better.

Steve is my favorite male singer. Then. Now. Ever.
Vicki...and Karen Carpenter is my...the fav female artist.
@@michaelasay8587 I love her also.
Me too... His voice is strong, in tune, metallic and has a sandpaper background that is unique in the world.
Next Steve Perry hits If only for a moment girl.
His voice is emotional and the high notes and everything falls in place. Hes the god of vocals..
You simply HAVE to check out Mother Father live in Houston 1981...Steve at his best...mind blowing.
Thanks for the suggestion! Love that song

Ron....so you're saying this song isn't that good? Yr nutttts
@michaelasay8587 just the opposite. He's telling the music industry that his music is good enough to stand on its merit.
It has been over 30 years since I last saw this video . Thanks for sharing this with us!!!!!😊
That girl in the video was his real life girlfriend, at the time and her name was Sherie
Wow, you are so incredible!!
I stopped what I was doing to listen to this with you xx I have always loved this song

Steve da goat for sure!! Gotta do why can't this night go on forever by Journey. Guarantee you will love it. Love you reactions.
If I'm not mistaken yes she was his girlfriend and she is the one that died of cancer.

I saw a documentary saying he lost his wife to cancer and stopped singing after.
@@mlarsen864 well that documentary got it all wrong. Perry never married.
That girl in this video was actually his girlfriend and her name was sherie.
They aren't together anymore though.
Hey lil baby doll
Never seen the beginning
This was the real girlfriend at the time great song
Why Steve Perry loks exactly like Joey Beladonna from Anthrax?
Forgive me, Freddy Mercury, but Steve Perry easily surpassed you.

That was Steve's girlfriend in the video. Sherrie is her name
