The video is very good, it is common sense I do a similar thing taking advantage of the pool deck and I get to eat fruit from May to October. I live in Pamplona (northern Spain) in a cold area and I am experimenting with many varieties (I have about 300) and every year I get rid of those that do not go well or I do not like them. Due to my cold climate, short summers I try to have biferra or early uniferous varieties Greetings and thanks for the videos
Like the special effects in the background...LOL ... I will send you a message soon. I loved the information, will work on building a small greenhouse, have an area... never thought about about starting early. Think it will get me better, stronger fig trees for the summer months. A big Thanks for making this video. keep making them.....
I’m in NJ and I also have a hoop house. I have a propane heater for cold nights in March and April. You mention that you overwinter your figs in the greenhouse and I would also like to do this, but what about the warm months in Jan or Feb? Aren’t you worried the trees might come out of dormancy too early?
I used to start them up early in the greenhouse. Usually in Feb I crank up the temp to wake them up. By the time it is warm enough to move them outside they have a lot of growth
Great video, a lot of useful info and food for thought! Must keep you pretty busy. Will you be doing a video on how you manage root pruning on the older trees? Would be interesting.
Thanks. I’ll do a pruning video. I could mention root pruning there but I don’t think I’ll do a separate video on it because I’ll be preparing for my move by springtime.
@@FigLifedotcom Pruning video sounds great thanks. So I would assume root pruning in late winter/early spring? In any case, all the best for your move. Hopefully moving to a favorable location for fig growing.
I usually just let them grow as a single leader unless I’m not getting any fruit and I’m running out of season. In that case I’ll pinch it to try to force fruit production
Great video Pete, I have 2 green houses and will be doing some early starts this next season. Obviously you do not go for Breba crops....at least on the majority....is this due to the space issue?
I'm wondering if it can be shipped to Japan and if a phytosanitary certificate is available. I'm also wondering how much more it would cost if it is available.
Excellent video with pictures. I have my first cuttings rooting now and this video helps. Thanks for sharing.
I believe my cheap portable little green house made a huge difference for Spring 2022.
That little boy was having a hoot playing with the fire pit, he's too cute.
Thanks for sharing video Pete, very interesting and informative !

Good to know the advantage of an early start and how you prune and store the fig trees for winter. Peace. 🍁 🍂

Great video Pete! Thanks for the tips. What is your hardiness zone? I see Northern Virginia has quite a range.
Thanks. I’m in hardiness zone 7a
Are you doing any pinching or do you grow to a single leader? thanks

Yes, although I do have one desert king that I don’t prune and put in my garage. It produced a lot of breba for me this past season

No I’m sorry. I don’t ship to Japan.
Good video as always. Keep a close eye on your son, he really likes playing with fire! 🔥
