Those are really the best 3 things you can do with a large amount of money, but I would add one more option: diversify that money among all those three options. Put part of it in index funds, part of it in real estate, and the rest in a business, not any business but one you know and can handle with confidence and a minimum of stress, otherwise forget about opening a business. Your videos are great. Thanks a lot.

Listening to you guys mainly and a few other You Tubers talking about investing I decided to invest $10k. I felt that $10k is a reasonable start for me in the stock market. Every paycheck I put $250 towards my investments. I plan on taking the interest from my high yield savings accounts and putting that towards my investments also. Still learning. Thanks for posting.

I concur with this advise. The DCA vs. lump sum investing won't be best for everyone though. It depends on individual goals and time horizon. So many factors and I know, it's never a one size fits all. Thanks for sharing.

    • @investingwitha-aron8055
      @investingwitha-aron8055 4 роки тому +3

DCA good for first time investors with no experience with economic downturns. If you are prone to panic sell if you end up losing 50%, you would be better off sticking with DCA.
I would also contend that a simple savings account would be appropriate for some people that don't want ti take any risk.

Long time fan, first time commenting. Great video as always... Lump sum in the market makes sense because if you dollar cost average you are holding a disproportionate percentage of your portfolio in cash. Just another way of looking at why lump sum has better returns overall. But I do agree with you that DCA might be better psychologically for inexperienced investors!

    • @jeffkline9191

It is smart to hold a small percentage in cash as a hedge. My Vangaurd acct. money market earns around .15%. About 10 x what my credit union pays.

After listening many of your valuable videos, I received great information, but I still have question for you: if you decide to retire early (age 40), with 1 million dollars in TSP (800k pre tax, and 200k tax). Will you rollover to traditional IRA and roth IRA? If you decide to rollover the entire amount from TSP, do you invest the entire amount (800k and 200k) to an ETF (ex: VTSAX) at a time or still contribute over years? I know you can start to do IRA conversion ladder starting that year but with 780k in traditional ira (if covert 20k from traditional to roth IRA), what do you do with that lump sum money? Coudld anyone share any experience? Thank you so much!

I love your videos! It's rare to see people who understands that bonds are not the best use of money vs stocks, when I saw that in one of your videos I knew I should watch all your videos! One question - how much percent cash do you keep in an investment account, to use for purchasing more stocks/funds when the market goes down? I'm somewhere around 10% cash but I feel like maybe that's too much?

Still dying to get a video on 529 plans for kids vs an index fund for them as a "starter fund" as I'm not sure what education will look like in 10+ years. VS teaching your kids good financial habits and letting them fend for themselves. Lots of takes on this, but you have two girls and I'd love to hear what you do. We've talked about this before (Oakland local here), but hope this topic doesn't get lost.

Thank you for all the videos. As I go through my finances I see I’m ready to start investing. What platforms do you use? I know you mentioned vanguard, but what other platforms should I be using ?? And why do
    You use multiple platforms? You
Mentioned you both have IRA and 401k in a previous video. Do you have all these accounts to maximize you deposits into the market?

This financial education being available to everyone has been a long time coming. I played sports professionally for a few years, and this subject of athletes going broke came up once too many times. I love you both for the service you are providing with the financial expertise and guidance you make available worldwide. Now athletes can sit up and take notice, get involved intimately in knowing how to invest and secure their financial futures.

Never invested before (soon I’m almost 18)
Perhaps investing in stock is gambling, but I feel like I missed out buying on the stuff like Apple and Tesla in March... that dip was pretty much on sale, coulda doubled and tripled money

You guys are so knowledgeable! I’ve been thinking about your video of investing $300 a month into stocks and bonds and I’m working toward having extra income to be able to accommodate that, as well as increasing my financial literacy so I know what I’m doing! I’m only 22 so I have some time to get it together lol also, if all goes to plan I should be getting a scholarship that’ll pay for my schooling so I’ll have 25k sitting in my bank waiting to be put to use since I’ll still be saving as if I don’t get the scholarship! 😊
You guys are a godsend ❤️
