- Today we are going to quickly explore what makes the 2020 Giant Trance 3 different from the Giant Stance line of bicycles. It is a question that I have been asked on numerous occasions. The quick and dirty answer is the suspension design. (Maestro)
I hope everyone is staying healthy!

The shock explanation, being the newbie that I am to mountain biking, was really helpful. Great video!
My LBS had a 2017 Stance 1 for $1300 two years ago. Couldn't pass up the deal on that. My budget was $1500 for my first MTB so I was pleasantly surprised to get a $2100 bike for that price. Makes one heck of a first bike and I love it.
1300 for that bike is a damn good deal!
My son just bought a Trance in Jan. He chose the black/blue color scheme.. It’s a really nice entry level affordable FS bike. Thanks for doing affordable bikes.
Actually thought I was watching a professional big UA-cam channel, can’t believe you only have 1k subs!
I really appreciate that!!
Stay free, then we shall be safe! Cool video. Just bought Stance I'm 47 it will be a nice upgrade from a cannandale 2012
Thanks for the review. FYI, There is a brake upgrade from stance to trance too. Shimano mt 200 on stance, mt 400 on trance. (According the Giant website). Makes it even more of a no brainer!
Trance 3 it is! Thanks for such a thorough review. Was looking at the Reign but for my budget this one fits the bill for now.
I had one of the few 2020 Stance 1 29ers last Aug. Giant ran out of stock fast. Rode it cross country, no hucking cliffs, it was awesome at Deer Valley, the Crest, Snowbird's Big Mtn trail was a bit of a bear as it taxed the bike. The weak point was the braking, and being a fast rolling 29'er, I wiped out the brakes in 3 weeks. Added a 200mm front rotor, flipped the 180mm front to the rear, added Diety bars for a bit more flex and height and it was great. Tough bike, correctly priced, well thought out overall. Today I sold the Stance 1 for top dollar as it's 'new' for 2020, the local bikes shops report its selling very well. Went for the very bright orange 2020 Trance 3 29er and it is one bad ass looking bike. Side by side the Trance is a big boy bike. Two color choices, beige which is classy and a wicked orange. I'd say either bike works, both have high resale value.
im getting a stance 1 too so to upgrade the brakes all you did was buy one rotor and put it in the front and used the front one in the back? im new to this i just need to know what to do to get better brake power.
@@evanhb49 Yes Evan, no sense putting a lot of money into the Stance 1 2020 29er. It's a fast rolling bike, so about $40 for a bigger rotor is a no brainer. The 2020 Trance 29er 3 I have is plush though, clears more hills, it's a hell of a ride.
Got a 27.5 trance 3 about a month ago and love it. I weigh 215-220 though so sometimes I feel like I'm killing it but I've found it to be an excellent bike for me. I really need a downhill too...ugh gotta hit the lotto lol
I bought a leftover stance 27.5 a few months ago when i sold my Scott scale 930, i went from a 26 in to 29r a few years ago. And skipped 27.5s all together. Ive put a few hundred miles on it now and its a blast !
I own a Stance. If you tune your suspension, the braking and pedal bob mentioned in the clip will not be bad at all.
The reality is, most people will opt for the $1,500 Stance rather than the $1,800 version. At that point, the price point becomes a $600 difference. That's a lot.
If people are that worried about the difference in bike performance at that price point, then splurge and go for $3k bike to feel a real difference.
How is a 1,500 stance and a 1,800 trance a $600 difference?
@@thisnameistaken I'm saying to pay the extra to get the better version of the Trance.
@@LRF49 Oh like buy the 1500 stance or the 2100 or 2400 trance?
@@thisnameistaken Yes
My stance 2 has tubeless tyres,780mm bars as standard, dropper post,i have converted it to a 1x11 and changed the rear shock, its a 2019 model, love it!
The QR on the rear makes no difference at all,if anything its better than a thru axle due to rounding of the hex head due to over tightening
Many thanks for the review. Looking between these two for my wife as soon as 2021 come out.
Can you do the review on the 2020 Giant Stance 2 29er? I’m getting into the entry level full suspension and trying to find something budget friendly.
Had my 170mm Nukeproof Giga for a month now which I initially indented to replace my 2020 Stance with. However, the Stance is so much better for casual trails and general pedalling, I can't bring myself to sell it. Plus knowing it cost less than the forks on my Giga makes it feel a lot more enjoyable somehow.
Spend the $300.
Or even save up a bit longer and get the Trance 2 with Shimano SLX and Fox 34s.
This video actually made me go with the trance 3. Thank you.
It's a great bike! I'm glad I could help 😊
Thanks for the video. Honestly had I’ve known about the suspension and rear dropouts I would’ve saved up money and gotten a trance instead of a 2019 stance 2. Still, I think the stance is a great bike for most people and more than adequate for my limited skill level. Since then, I’ve made a few upgrades to improve the quality.
SRAM NX cassettes 11-50t
SRAM GX derailleur
SRAM GX cranks 32t
SRAM XO1 shifter
SRAM XX1 chain
Wolf tooth dropper remote
Shimano XT 4 pistons brakes ice tech 203/180mm
Fox 34 Performance Elite 150mm
Fox DPS shocks
Now if I had these on a trance it would be better but it is what it is. The Stance is a nice entry full suspension bike and if it can get fat lazy people like me off the couch and enthusiast about mtb then I say all the better.
Oh yes, the stance is still a great bike. You have made yours a nice piece!
My 2013 Trance X 29 2 is a beast!!!
Thanks for the nice review. I'm very much interested in comparison between giant Anthem vs Trance (especially between Anthem 29er 1 vs Trance X 29er 2 if possible). Please think about it.
Great video! Does the front come with True Axle as well? Can you please compare the 29 vs the 27.5 trance 3? Thank you so much!!!!
Yes, the front is already a thru axle!
Why does that trance have fox and marzocchi suspension? My 2020 trance 3 has RockShox and that’s the suspension that it has on the giant website
As you probably know, the Trance 3 (2020) is offered in 2 wheel sizes:
-29 (comes with Fox shock)
-27.5 (comes with RockShox shock)
Took me a while to realize that too. How are you liking the bike? I'm in the market for my first FS and the Trance 3 is currently first on my list.
Clay Follmar I like it a lot, but I started riding enduro/dh and I feel like it doesn’t have enough travel (because it is a trail bike), but it is a great trail bike!
Clay Follmar I’ve been looking at the yt capra base, it has 180mm of travel on the front and 170mm on the rear and its only $200 more than the trance
My stance came setup tubeless; no need to buy anything. Also, there is very little pedal bob on the rear suspension. I thought about changing the rear shock for one with a lockout, but there is no need, this bike climbs really well. Also, at 13Kg (28.6Lb) it's light. I spent the price difference swapping that heavy Sram SX crap out.
I love my Trance 2! It’s a tank! Keep up the sweet vids man!
Can anyone touch on the subject of frame material. Not sure about the 2020 model lineup but for 2021 Stance is listed as ALUXX grade and Trance is listed as ALUXX SL. My understanding is the ALUXX SL is a lighter material but beyond that what are the advantages? Thanks
Great video , I was looking at the stance
Now I will definitely go for a Trance
Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
I came from a Maestro bike to the Stance, I cannot tell the difference it pedals very well.
Could you do a video comparison of all the different 2021 trance models ?
My stance came set up tubeless. Valves, stans . And im 6' 3 215 lbs. And was wondering how the flex point susp. Would hold up, its been great. No problem
There's any chance on a stance to update flex point to a maestro suspension?
Like your stuff mossie, subbed, trance 3 29er all the way man☮️....Double FOX 👌
I appreciate the sub!
Can you do a detailed description, like this, about the Reign?? I just got the Reign, and am EXCITED about it! (Pro 2) Thanks!
I'm still riding a 2011 giant trance 2 carbon with 26" wheels.
Very good video questions do you think the SX drive train on their is It’s something you need to upgrade right away to an XT or do you just wait until the derailer breaks
I would honestly just wait and upgrade when you break something. The SX isn't bad by any means but it does seem to be more fragile. But I'm always in the mindset of run it till it's junk and then upgrade😂
Mossie Rides Bikes thanks man. Looking forward to some more videos. Maybe go into adjustment and care of suspension? Just an idea
Generally speaking, do you have to worry about the chain slapping/falling off on either bike when the rear shock is traveling?
Not at all. The clutch derailleurs keep the chain nice and snug
I have a Trance 3 27.5. it's very quiet in my opinion and the chain stays on all the time
Its a Trance 3 29er. Not the Trance 3 2020 27.5 which has RS Fork and suspension.
Trance 3 29er has 130/120 travel
While the Trance 3 2020 27.5 is 150/140 Travel
Ya i also noticed that bothered me the whole video 😂 btw the 29er has 115 mil rear not 120
Whats the differences between giant trance 2021 (27.5) and the giant trance x 29 (2021) wich is best ? And why ?
This may be a stupid question, but can you not change out the rear QR to a thru-axle on the Stance?
Not a stupid question at all. Sadly, you can't. Giant will have to redesign the stance soon to include thru axles. The fathom was recently updated to thru axle so I'm sure it's coming
@@MossieRidesBikes Ok, I didn’t think you could, but I wasn’t 100% certain. Also, not sure if I missed a review on this bike, but if you have done or are planning on talking about or doing a video on the new 2021 Giant Trance Advanced, that’d be greatly appreciated. It seems like a pretty good bang-for-the-buck full sus trail bike, but I’m not sure about the pros/cons of an aluminum rear triangle vs full carbon front and rear triangles...plus that blue colorway...mmm!
No full sus in my for seeable future. On the plus side, I'll be getting a nice shop soon!
Hi! I am 38 and brand new to the MTB community. I just purchased the 2020 STANCE 3 29er and was curious on the tubeless set up... Do I need to buy and install the valves, tape, sealant?? Or does it come completely tubeless out of the box? I just want to be prepared when it gets delivered to my house in the next few days. Thanks all!
You will need the valves, tape, and sealant. Tubeless "ready" just means the rims and tires are tubeless compatible but they are not already setup.
I got the Trance 2 29er (2020). Really phenomenal bike. I've got videos of it in my channel in action for those interested to see.
Can you do a video of the Motobecane full suspension bikes from Bikes Direct please?
I just bought the Stance 2 29 and slapped tires on it! My goal is to beat that bike 🚲 hard for 1 year. Then purchase the Advanced 2 29💪🏼💪🏼
I got the 2020 Giant Trance 29 2 end of last year which cost me £2,599 from Giants main site.... Have you reviewed that model on your channel?
Hey guys, just found your channel and have really enjoyed the content. Sorry if this is long but I have a question. What bike brand do you think has the best pedaling platform under $2500 in your opinion (you mentioned maestro over flex point, but are they better than trek, spec, ect)? My LBS have all the big names and I live I'm Monterey ca, so close to the sea otter trails. I was looking for a short travel 29er to be a more efficient climber. Any recommendations/info is really appreciated. Thanks and keep up the great work!
Thanks for the kind words! I would check out the Orbea Oiz h30. I think it's right at $2500. I'm in love with the m30 that I'm currently on and haven't stopped recommending it. The anthem from giant was my go to short travel 29 for years though and is an awesome bike for the money. The best thing I tell people is to try and ride a few and see which one you have the most confidence on!
@@MossieRidesBikes thanks for getting back so quick, and for all the info. I definitely will try some bikes out before I buy as well. Just one follow up, the bikes you suggested seem like straight xc, and i was hoping to get something with a dropper. I guess if you have any recommendations for a trail or "down county" bike it would be great. If not, no worries, just have fun, be safe, and keep rocking it. Thanks
Ahhhh, I read the first comment as you only wanted a good climbing bike. Orbea does a Tr (trail) version of the oiz that has a bigger front fork and a dropper but I'm not sure the price point. For a strictly trail bike that can climb you can't go wrong with the 29 trance from Giant. I hope that helps a bit and stay safe!
@@MossieRidesBikes sorry for the miscommunication and hanks for all the information & suggestions. Ill see if my lbs has the trance yet, if not I'll just wait for your review 👍
Do you know why the Trance doesn’t have the Giant logo on body?
I’m looking at the oiz or trance, could you give me the big differences
Thanks
The trance is definitely more of a trail oriented bike and the oiz is orbea's xc race bike. You can get a "TR" version of the oiz but it's intended purpose is still to be a lightweight race machine similar to the Giant anthem. The Occaam from Orbea is more inline with the style of bike that the Trance is.
First full suspension bike. Trance good option? I've been hard tail my entire life. Never tried full suspension
The trance is an awesome bike. The maestro platform is phenomenal but I think which travel you pick comes down to the trails you ride 90% of the time. For my local trails most people go with the trance or the anthem
@@MossieRidesBikes I just moved so I don't ride the crazy crazy rocky super rooty trails like I used to. Uphill downhill areas are not as awesome. Pretty minor but when there are roots and rocks they are just a few curb sized roots
Now is hard to get a trance 29 3 in California the trance 2 is $2900 is it worth the extra money excuse my ignorance are the components really worth the extra money?
The Trance 2 is definitely worth the extra cash. The fox suspension alone is worth it much less getting full SLX. With how hard it is to get certain bikes at the moment though I would say any trance you can find is worth it😂
@@MossieRidesBikes just picked up a Trance 3 27.5 yesterday I'm so stoked
My Trance X3 has a quick release rear wheel...is that because it’s a 2011 or 2012?
Boost TA is a must 👍
Is the stance 1 29er worth it if I can get it for 1300-1400 brand new or would it be more worth it go for a nice hardtail
That's a good price on a Stance 1. I would honestly go with that over a nice hardtail. The stance is still a great bike. If you ended up not liking it a year from now for whatever reason it would also be easier to re-sale. Full squish definitely bring more money on the used market (at least in my area)
Thanks for the advice, I ended up getting the stance yesterday and I love it so far! It’s weird getting adjusted to (better geo, wider bars, full sus, dropper) but it’s really fun and feels really smooth and fast!
Great video, thanks!
I bought a Trance and it has a strange feel, like a pendulum is swinging from side to side while I’m riding. Any ideas why it would feel like that?
Hmmm, that is weird. I have had a similar feeling if the headset is either too tight or pitted. If you bought it from a shop I would just bring it to their attention. Or if you got it used I'd still get it checked out just for peace of mind😄
Mossie Rides Bikes I took it back to the shop where I bought it new and they were clueless. I’ll have them check that out. Thank you!!!
Thank you for the video 🙏
I can't find the trance 3 in that orange color. What model is that?
Kyle Thompson that orange bike is the trance 29 I think. Same bike but less suspension travel and bigger wheels
Trance 27.5 is only available in blue/gray and army green
I was dyslexic too… but I’m KO now
Which is a better bike the trance or reign 2 29
It really depends on the application. They are both based on the same suspension platform but the reign has more travel which means it's going to be a better descender
Mossie Rides Bikes I do trail riding forests etc anywhere off road, wouldn’t say I was an aggressive rider
The only trail bike I’ve had experience riding was a whyte T 129 29er full suspension trail bike
That’s a $600 difference
Had my Stance for 5 years love it , but I’m upgrade the the Trance 2.
Very helpful thank you. If anyone could tell me the max payload rating for this bike I would be very grateful.
I’d like to correct y’all with the tubeless system on the stance, I does come tubeless ready. All you have to do is take out tubes and squirt some sealant and you are good to go.
rear hub in trance 3 internals are make by giant or Dt Swiss
Sub and liked affordable bike reviewer is a realistic bike reviewer
Thoughts on the 2020 trance advanced 2?
That's are great bike for the money.especially since it already has carbon wheels on it. The only real weak point is the SX drivetrain but that is pretty inexpensive to upgrade
@@MossieRidesBikes Thanks! I was not too concerned with the drivetrain amd brakes.i have some spare xtr brakes lying around and figured id put an AXS groupset on it at some point and throw a charger damper into the rl35 or just swap the fork later if outgrew it. Seems like the trance 27.5s geometry is getting a little old (seat tube and head tube angles) and not sure if i want to go 29er (smaller rider 5,9) seems like everything is going the way of the 29 however.
How does it compare to Scott Spark 960? The Twinloc seems like such an amazing feature I can't see why every short travel/XC maker does not do it, but surely Scott has cut corners somewhere else to bring it in at equivalent price... maybe it's the suspension?
I have only put my hands on one of the 960s. I'm not super familiar with the bike but I recall it having the same suspension design as the stance (single pivot/flexpoint). The 960 also looks to be a couple of pounds heavier. One could also argue the Judy fork isn't as nice as what the trance. I have a dual lockout on the oiz I race and I do love it for an xc specific ride!
Giant Trance 👍👍👍
Very useful 👍🏽
What's the weight difference? I believe you weighed the Stance around 29lbs
Also, the trance has less rear travel, correct?
Thanks for the video
ZShaners usually the other way around. Stance is around 120. Trance is 140. The new 2021 trance 2 is 32 (medium) so probably near that.
@@kyleslater5245 Sorry, should've clarified, I'm wondering about the trance 29, not 27.5
www.giant-bicycles.com/us/trance-29-3
Not sure about 2021, but the 2020 is 115mm on the Trance.
Marin Hawk Hill 1 vs Giant stance 2
Thanks for the video..very usefu!l. Would you still recommend the trance 3 over a Stance 2? It's about $600 difference. I am getting back into biking after over 30 yrs.
The trance is definitely a nicer suspension platform. If you are looking for a bike you can potentially upgrade I would go with the base model trance. The stance is a great bike but you will never be able to add that second rocker that the trance has
@@MossieRidesBikes Thanks..ended getting a Trance2 27.5 and loving it!
Nice !!
The Tramp is better than the Stamp
He said the stance has a dropper post but last time I checked that is not a dropper post
This is a decent bike and a good beginner bike ... but I have had so many problems on this bike. My rear hub seized, replaced my entire drivetrain because SX is crap. Just save up for an Trance. Also had problems with the shocks. I have 900 miles on this bike too. I know this bike. lol. My entire channel is about this bike.
It’s a nice bike just hate the Scram SX
Bike shop owner looks annoyed to just be there. Lighten up, man!
I paid 2100 for the stance 1 2021. Prices went up
Norco fluid falls 3 vs stance 2021
Why does giant make stance ??? Seems trance is way to go
Is 2020 trance a good first full sus
Most definitely. The maestro platform is great!
I don't think were comparing right. cant compare the same manufacture. the next model is always .now how about the Stance 29 2 compare to the Walmart MTB or the diamondback Atroz 3 its 1500 too
Really want toss my Stance in a river some times...
Stance has lower grade aluminium frame
Stance 150lbs and under ...trance 150lbs and up...your welcome
