I’ve been looking everywhere for a video that concisely covers the feel and play style of the classes to give me a direction with my new game. You nailed it. I feel a lot more confident in what class I’m going to enjoy going forward
It's worth noting that you can create a character, get them through the initial story-instance/tutorial, and then go straight into the pvp lobby called "Heart of the Mists." In this zone, you gain access to all the traits and skills your character's profession will have at max level (and elite specs if you own the expansions), so you can test it out and get a feel for it on the dummy-golems located within the map.
Except pvp and pve has a little different skill effect or CD,,, like staff mesmer only summon one phantasm instead of two in PVE, Mirage only have 1 dodge meter, and most of CD's is higher
Guardian - if you want to be developer's favorite baby that can do no wrong (always OP/meta) Warrior - Big numbers go monkee brain happy, also coffee with cocaine Revenant - If you wanna play like an assassin, but not always and have heavy armor and cool SFX Engineer - if you like pressing lots of buttons and then fart a tactical nuke that kills everything Ranger - If you like pressing 2 buttons once to kill something, and have a pet, or straight up, be the healer Thief - If you like to be able to kill sth in 0.5 seconds, be invisible forever, and then wait for CDs to do it again, also teleports (running away is a strat) Mesmer - If you like cheating, also teleports, but a bit less often (why run when there's 5 of you?) Necro - If you like using AIDS to nuke things and wait for nerfs - hard to balance class, but always viable Elementalist - If you like having 20+ buttons to combo together, and also the order of pressing matters, pianist-favored
@@wallyflops if you want straight up pure healer then druid. If you wanna spam barriers then scourge support, if you wanna be super fast and heal give boons then scrapper and so on but right now with current meta its about if your goal (raid strike fractal etc) and your group boons match the quota. Its going in a balanced direction.
This is exactly what I was looking for! So many “What class should you play in [game]” videos either get WAY to into the weeds for new players, ie “The Wizard lacks a secondary trait line on their progression slot, which really hurts during your weekly Gorbelgorp runs” or on the flip side are written like we’ve never played a video game before, ie “The Hunter class is one with nature, so much so that they have a pet! The class also utilizes a bow, which allows you to strike your enemies from a distance! Play this class if you want to be like Robin Hood or the blue guys from Avatar.” This vid on the other hand was perfect: gave a little flavor, talked about how each class actually played, and explained aspects that were unique to this game. Incredible job, liked and subscribed off this vid alone.
Btw i think i’m gonna try a Thief. the concept of not having cooldowns but instead having everything tied to a single resource seems really interesting. although i almost always go something more magical and backliney, so those 3 light armor types are tempting too. hmm…
That’s for your comments! Really appreciate it! That’s a great shout, my Thief is my main but just like you I often like to jump on my other chars for that magic user play-style. All the best and I hope you enjoy playing! - Nex
I think this is the best video that I've come across concisely going over every profession while not dwelling on any particular aspect for too long, thank you! One piece of criticism though, to a new player's eyes, the constant strafing and camerawork while fighting in melee range may seem busy and distracting. I would personally strafe less just so we can clearly see animations, effects, etc. I feel it was particularly busy at 6:26 :)
Hey, we really appreciate the comment! That’s good feedback I forget that my constant moving around most likely can’t be viewed very well, particularly for an informative video. Noted! - Nex
I see your point of view, but since moving is such an important issue for the combat system of GW2, the video makers should mention it and talk about changing the default keybinds for the A and D keys to strafe left and right, instead of turning your character, as that is a more efficient play style.
I’ve been playing GW2 since launch (technically since before launch, with the PAX demos), and I main Ranger. She was the first character I made. My next favourite classes are Mesmer, Necro, and Thief, though not necessarily in that order.
I think it would have been nice to mention the elite specialization system. You start off showcasing an elementalist of the Weaver specialization. TheDarmNexus correctly points this out. Also, kudos to Ryan Gibson for his helpful comment.
Yeah I totally get the point you guys are making, it may have been a bad idea on my part but I wanted to consider an audience brand new to Guild wars 2 that didn’t need to think of in game systems, so I described aspects of the elite specialisations within some of the class descriptions where I thought appropriate instead. - Nex
Honestly, I really wish there were more classes to choose from in GW2, they have a total of 3 (technically 5) classes they could add to the game that are from GW1, but it seems like that'll never happen at this point. Those 5 are Paragon, Ritualist, Dervish, Assassin and Monk. Assassin and Monk are, technically, already in the game, but could still be added as specializations (Assassin for Thief and Monk for Guardian). They even have more classes to choose from that they could add into the game as well, like Warlock, Shaman and Bard. My preferred class in most MMOs is usually Bard, Druid, Warlock or Necromancer, depending on how they function in said MMOs. In Everquest II, my main's a Dirge Bard (Basically a more mage-y Bard) and while my DPS isn't as good as other rogues/mages, I still had fun.
They recently said there will be another expansion after End of Dragons. Unless they drastically change the direction that the last expansions went, its very likely that we´ll get another batch of elite specs. Personally, I think that they´ll try not to implement classes from gw1 exactly as they were, but we might see some of their skillsets woven into the new specs.
I don't understand your comment. It sounds like you just want extra classes for the sake of it. Elite specs kind of are subclasses for each of the 9 main classes ... some elite specs dramatically change the playstyle. So I don't see how adding new classes is really necessary. Could they add one new class in expansion #4? Sure. But it would make more sense to do 9 elite specs, again, changing the playstyle of each existing class to make it feel new.
@@ryanm7654 Yes, I am aware and I don't want classes for the sake of extra classes. There's just not enough to choose from, and even less because Anet nerfs half of them to hell. It would be nice to see the classes from GW1 that didn't make it to GW2.

Yeah I get what your saying, I actually intentionally left balance out to focus on feel and play style, I’d prefer to leave the meta builds on info to dedicated gw2 channels and focus on the casual player that just wants to run around and have fun. Cheers for the feedback though! - Nex

@@TheBulletSponges well I was thinking about ranger bc u get a pet I was wondering if you never die also I my top classes are warrior or guardian which one is better in taking hits n damage.
Ranger is a great class but the pet doesn’t help in survival near as much as it does when soloing in a game like wow, it often feels like an accessory to the class then a core part of it (to me) Both warrior and guardian can take a lot of punishment I’d say in a general sense guardian leans more to the defensive side and warrior leans more offensive. But as mentioned in the video GW2 is great in you can achieve good damage etc. On every class. - Nex
ngl, the combat looks hella fun but the bloom effect and the blurred out smear effect in this game really put me off.. I know it's a nitpick but i really hate it, possible to turn that shit off to make it look more sharp?
I know it's been a month since you posted this, but you can turn off post-processing in the settings (just a single, universal setting there. Can't adjust individual effects). It made the game less glaringly bright for me, so I think it was a good choice
If you want to get responses it would help a great deal to provide more information about yourself, your preferred play style, game mode/s, time zone (also, which mega-server you are on), when (how often, for how long, during which time of day) you intend to play, what motivates you in the game etc. etc.
