      I am 2 month into GW 2. The first month I played a necro healer bcs I was the noobest of the noobs at dealing damage. Even when I got the reaper, I still was the noobest of the noobs. So I began to revive, heal and buff everyone.Now I play my class properly, but still, it was so fun, I didn't know what do to, and I did what I could to help. 🍻

    I personally like the fact that quickness healers exist. It allows for more variety in builds and group compositions. I pretty much main alac dps renegade and my build wouldnt be very viable without quick healers.

    A small note, healer tempest generally does not overload water (at least from what I've seen and played). You do switch to and from water a lot, but you only overload it in dire situations because you need to swap into it constantly to keep healing up. Overloading water locks you out of it and therefore from healing for too long. Instead you overload every other element and swap into water between each element to cast 1-2 heal skills and refresh the passive healing.
    Basically it goes fire, overload, water, air, overload, water, earth, overload, water, repeat. Overloading water is so dangerous since it takes way too long to gain access to water again and leaves you with only 2 abilities to heal allies with (heal skill and Rebound).
    It does really need a better way to give alacrity though because you have to fully complete a long channel for it right now. If it gets interrupted in any way, you're in for a rough bit without alacrity. I really hope they do something to fix that as it feels really bad to not be able to react to things as a healer.

    ive been playing this auramancer support tempest build that this youtuber Vallun introduced a few weeks ago and its been one of my favorite builds to play rn. it kind of revitalized my love for the tempest. giving auras to allies while healing and buffing them too has been so satisfying. it was originally an sPvP build but ive been having so much fun using it in PvE and WvW.

    My main heal is Heal Alac Tempest.
    However, Firebrand is insanely more versatile as I can Lego myself to every encounter, because I have plenty of access to aegis, resistance, stability and projectile block, as well as extra healing and cc. I have DEFAULT access to all of these things from my tomes and weapon skills but can slot in even more based on the encounter without any sacrifices. It's the most fun healer I've played yet because I can comfortably make meaningful choices.
    Frankly Firebrand should be the first choice for anyone looking to play an allround healer unless they are tied to their current spec.

    I disagree that healing specs should have alac and not quickness. In my opinion, a support spec should have high-permanent might, fury, swiftness and protection uptime with dips into vigour, resolution, resistance and aegis. A heal spec should have as much of that as possible, combined with healing and alac OR quickness. I do miss the old chronotank build with limited, localised healing (wells) but had quickness AND alacrity permanently, and i do chafe at tempests having to choose to optimise healing at the expense of alacrity. I do love my healscourge but it will never be a solo healer as long as players stand in red aoe's :)

    I dont know if anyone has even said this.. but when Virtuoso came out and was teased I thought that it was going to be a support spec. Like a bard of some sort. Using a shortbow or longbow that looks like a harp and instead of their f1-4 doing some kind of dmg it would instead play a song that did different types of healing and buffs. They could have access to facets like herald, but you dont just blow ur load and release them instantly like you do now. It would be more methodical. Not rly sure what ANET was thinking by adding more DPS specs when there was already 2, just like they did to warrior.... I thought warrior would have some kinda RAGEY MONK spec that did boons (support DPS) of some sort. Give em double focus weapons and they just punch the hell out of their enemies, like a brawler. You could even make it have an option to be tanky. But all this sounds like FUN and we know FUN isnt allowed in MMOs anymore.

    • @borat2672
      @borat2672 Рік тому +1

      In general, you can equip any 1 handed weapon (paired with shield ofc. as other off hand weapons do not provide any real group benefits but more damage related) for heal firebrand to match your needs:
      1 Scepter for soft cc, some might application and range attacks access (not really great choice cuz mostly you need to stick to your group that in 99% cases are staying close to the boss);
      2 Mace is great for group block, extra regeneration access and some passive healing from auto attacks (don't forget to pick the relevant trait to enhance it's effectiveness);
      3 Sword is amazing for mobility and frontal block for yourself, while providing the fury for your group;
      4 Axe is great for pulling group of enemies and for cc in general (which can be enhanced within firebrand traits, but it will reduce your quick application potential) and gives access to fury for your group.
      So it's quite situational and maybe you might even equip a hammer/great sword if you're mad enough :D

    With the recent changes to elementalist and tempest I would move it to atleast to 9 because:
    Lucid Singularity: This trait now causes overloads to pulse alacrity while channeling in addition to granting alacrity when channeling is completed. The total amount of alacrity granted remains the same.
    Water Blast: This skill can now target allies.
    Geyser: Increased heal attribute scaling from 1.0 to 1.25 in PvP and WvW.
    Frozen Ground: This skill now grants frost aura to allies in the area when the field is created.
    Healing Rain: This skill now heals allies for each condition removed. Increased conditions removed per pulse from 1 to 2 in PvE only.
    Recent patch did elementalist good.

    Hey Kroof. Great summation of support/heal specs that are available! Would you also happen to have sample build templates for each, that highlight their support and heal capabilities? Even if it's just standard open world builds. Those at least can be used as launching platforms for other game modes. There are places like metabattle, of course, but it's sometimes difficult to tell if those builds are kept up to date, as most of them have been there for a while. So even if you just put the "must have" traits and abilities if you want to be support/heals on a particular profession.

    Heal/quick builds exist to pair with alac/dps builds. A healbrand would be paired with an alac mirage for example which is a spec that can't heal. So if they made all healers alac providers then support dps builds like alac mirage would never see any play in group content. For that reason I'm very surprised Heal Scrapper isn't mentioned. Great heals with med kit just like mechanist, res people with function gyro just like scourge, aoe mobile stealth field to skip trash in fractals, bulwark gyro letting you tank for your team and last but not least perma quickness and superspeed. It's a solid healer with great utility and any heal mechanist should have that build on hand in case their support dps is an alac provider like mirage, renegade, willbender, mechanist, or specter.

    Returning player here, TY so much for making this! I've always loved playing as support in games. When GW2 first came out I fell in love with Mesmer and Necromancer. I focused on spreading boons or conditions because at the time...that was what support was. Over time it all changed and my favorite class...Mesmer...could be a tank. The role I least like. I was honestly devastated. Still sad to hear that Virtuoso didn't change that at all. But it is a hella fun DPS class!
    I LOVE Scourge. It really is too bad that the game relies so heavily on Alacrity. Honestly I feel it was a mistake to add it to the game. I thought that when I was playing around as Chronomancer in HoT and I still feel like that. I made an Engineer and honestly...I find Mechanist...boring. Just point your mech in a direction and they decimate. You don't have to do well, anything. I remember trying to make Engineer work as a support by using the elixer gun but it just didn't have the numbers to be effective. I don't like the idea of my bot doing everything for me. Meanwhile Ranger, or Druid over her barely touches their pet. I do like Druid though. I also remember really liking Firebrand and Renegade. I did actually stay in Ventari mode while being Renegade to get that alacrity. But it didn't feel impactful. I never realized Herald was a support spec. I never tried it. I will have to give it a go and see how I like it.

    @ivanruzic2592 Рік тому

    I would have to disagree with you about mesmers lacking healing elites. Chronomancers, with All's Well That Ends Well and Stretched Time, can work... heh, well, as healers, as All's Well gives all chrono wells a bit of healing(though even at lvl 80 it's not all that much), and Stretched Time provides the much-desired alacrity, meaning that you can spam your wells on enemies and have your melee-focused allies pick up alacrity and a bit of healing, easily fitting as a support healer. Add in Restorative Mantras, Restorative Illusions(which heals allies through Healing Prism) and Illusionary Inspiration from the core Inspiration spec and you can have a chrono mesmer as a decent healer that also provides your group with alacrity. And as a bonus, Stretched Time also gives Tides of Time shield skill the ability to give alacrity, though without healing. Of course, chrono can only heal that way on land, as both specter and chronomancer wells do not function underwater(unlike necro wells and scrapper gyros that do), which is the only downside to them.

  • @smolams2649
    @smolams2649 Рік тому

    I agree that the way some professions aply the boons need a change to be more fluid. The thing I disagree about is that specs that give quickkness should give alac instead. IMO there should be more even split and more healers should give quickess so there is space for both quickness dps and alac dps in the party. I think heal scrapper is a viable choice that you skipped and helps with evening out this split.

    Hiiii!! As a new player, I want to both enjoy the class but also start out on a class that can play the healer/support role (and be good for duos). I've been looking for videos and yours pops up and I'm so happy I found it!
    Am worried though because newer videos say that some of these classes right now, like the scourge Necro, aren't very good healers and I was about to choose that one as my first class.. Would you mind doing an updated video some time? Orrr can you tell me which ones are good and bad right now? I don't want to level a character and be told that I have to play like dps or something because my class sucks at support. Tempest seems like so much fun from what I've seen, but a lot of people say it's the most complex and I'm not sure if I should pick that up as a first class/healer to play when I don't even know the very basics of the game. xD

    Vindicator feels like it was designed to fill a "flex" role that the overarching game design unfortunately doesn't really accommodate, where they would be a DPS most of the time but swap to healing when the squad is in danger, as they get a not insignificant boost to healing output when low due to the free Empire Divided trait. Due to a variety of factors both in their kit and in the structure of endgame content it really just...doesn't work for them.

    new player and I'm loving the HFB as my main, but my problem with playing supports is when doing instances like T2-3 fractals, strikes etc., people just run around and not stack, they run away from my defensive skills e.g., when I use shield barrier, they dodge out of the circle LOL?? and this has happened not once but many times, and they will still eat the boss's spells with open arms, no problem. Also, while I'm trying to save a teammate from dying on the left, the guy on the right has no backup and dies. We get wiped, then the same players question about how we have no support, bad healing. I would be insane to think this is my fault, I understand these are low level pugs and my only conclusion is either people get tunnel visioned or just outright ignore me because I'm lower leveled and think that I'm incapable of even contributing a helping hand for the team.

    I agree your video is a 10/10 . Healing has been tricky over the years in Guild Wars 2. Solo Druid heals were strong when the were released. Getting glimpses back. Feels good. Heal brand has been the staple for main heals for a long time. Elementalist got fun again for me. I have been using Icebow for the buff in my build. Necro barrier wins every time for me. Specter was just 'sigh". Chronomancer has a heal build kind of. Rev is meh . Thanks for the video

    I just blew about 80g getting my vindicator in minstrel's gear with monk runes.. because I wanted to try Vindicator healer for WvW. I'd heard it was pretty good if done right. Now, that was just for wvw, maybe not as much for pve applications, though I'm sure it can provide adequate heals there, too. For instance, I parked myself on top of that vine champ in Silverwastes, the one that surrounds itself with smaller vines. And it couldn't really even touch me.. my health stayed pretty much max forever. Now, I couldn't touch him, either.. the thing with Vindicator heal spec is it does zero damage. It all goes into heals, boons and condi removal. The only damage is if you thwack it with your staff between dodges. Or swap temporarily to your Archemon legend to do a bit of damage. But still, it was fun just parking myself on top of that champ and keeping my health full. So the vindicator heals are pretty good, and it does have a niche place somewhere.

    I think you should reconsider your decision on Firebrand... The fact that Firebrand is able block incoming damage with the amount of Aegis (Shild 4, 2x Advance; Book3 Skill 5) and the Reflect is so much better then the healing or barrier application from other classes... providing also nearly permanet protection and resulotion. In your ranking it should be a 12/10 then if druid is a 9/10....
    The only critic Point is that you actually need to read and understand what your skills actually does, because the amount of skills is for a beginner way to much to handle in the beginning....(5 Skills in F2; 5 Skills in F3; 5 skills in Mace/Shild, 5 in Staff and if you consider the basic skills, healmantra, quicknessmantra, condiremove mantra, stand your ground, sanctuary for heal/Projectylblock/CC, Wall of Reflection, Advance, Purching Flames for extra condi remove, 3 Eliteskills...... Other classes are far behind in the skilldiversity basis

      Aegis can either be GODLY or absolutely useless - it’s a tricky boon to consider in this video because it does pop up on a few others. Reflects are not unique to FB and destruction zones are sometimes better than reflects.
      The “overwhelming” sense is a non point as it is so subjective. It’s not entirely worth bringing up. But, brining up the gameplay flow of all the skills together is - and how all of those skills mimic each other.

And the game still feels like "Guardian or nothing".

    I don't believe Quickness should be an offensive support-only tool, while Alacrity is a defensive support-only tool; this would only limit build diversity! If anything, the balance between defensive supports bringing each of the two boons should be better, with more Quickness and less Alacrity.

    • @KROOF
      @KROOF  Рік тому

      It in effect does limit diversity as if I want to play a healer, and have a druid and a tempest, but the group is looking for a Quick Heal, I then cannot play on the class I desire.
      Class diversity shouldn't come down simply to the boon it can provide, but the role that it can play. Too many qualifications, going from role -> boon -> specific class (ex. HFB) ... now that is what limits diversity.
      If all of the healer builds were aligned in their boon that they can provide it wouldn't matter which one you took -- as long as the player is good and comfortable with that build/spec.

    • @Chupakazul
      @Chupakazul Рік тому

      @@KROOF Ultimately that's true the other way around, too, though - if you want to heal as a Firebrand but a group is looking for an alacrity healer, you're out of luck. In my experience, this is not a problem - I only do strike missions in PUGs and people have always been more than willing to change class & build in order for the composition to work out reasonably well, i.e. you as a druid join, and someone switches from DPS to qDPS, so that everything is fine.
      To my mind the way to make the current system better is simply to 1) take the overperforming specs (Firebrand, Mechanist) down a notch, and 2) over time, provide even more build diversity - what you kind of hinted at with Warrior and Mesmer.
      For me, an ideal future would see each of the 9 classes have a reasonable build that can either DPS, offensively support (via Quickness OR Alacrity) and defensively support (via Quickness OR Alacrity). Kind of where Engi is at the moment - with reasonable builds for DPS, QuicknessDPS, AlacrityDPS and AlacrityHeal! More choices, not fewer, please!

    After long time of testing i have to say the untamed spec is the better druid. You can bring more utillity skills because you dont need all spirits to provide alac. You have permanent boonrip, much more cc and you dont have to wait for a celestial avatar to heal and give boons.
    BUT its not that easy to play like druid.

      @@KROOF No front but it looks like you haven't bothered that much with the untamed. Didn´t say that you dont need spirits on untamed. I said you dont need all spirits to provide 100% alac because you can reset them everytime you cc and you have a lot of cc. Also u can reset your healing spring which is a very good healskill with water field and with your explo finnisher skills you have extra aoe healing. I play heal alac untamed in every endgame content and hes doing his job very well. The only downside is the big range healing. But thats not neccessary. It shouldn't even be called healing.

    • @Oatmeal-Savage
      @Oatmeal-Savage Рік тому +2

      It isn't trash. Frankly, if you're looking for a "dedicated" healer like in other MMOs, you have missed the entire point of GW2. GW2 is one of the few MMOs that don't force you into the holy trinity of tank/healer/dps roles. And that is the main thing that has kept me here. I dislike the holy trinity. If the GW2 style isn't for you and you love the trinity, then you may enjoy other MMOs better. To each their own. At most, GW2 has a "soft" trinity. You can spec into it if you want, but that is useful only for specific applications in the game. Most classes can perform most roles, which is made easier by encounters not forcing you to have 2xtanks to manage threat, 3xhealers to ignore what's happening around them and just play whackamole with their heals, and the rest dps. I find that limiting and don't like it. If you do like it, then there are tons of other MMOs that do have that mechanic that you may enjoy better.
