You can't compare your waves to his because your hair is at a different length. If you hair was shorter you might have waves but they wouldn't have definition without a durag. As far as what products to use, you should look into cantu products. It sounds like your hair is very full with defined curls but not exaggerated curls. Cantu shampoos and moisturizers sound like your friend.
