I grew up as a wide-eyed little girl watching my father play through this series of games on his PS2. He's a big part of the reason I'm a gamer now. Thanks Mike; this video brought back that family nostalgia hard-core. 😊❤
same here! though for me, it was the sequel more than anything. i even have memories of playing the game myself on pc alot. my dad happily letting me do so lol. a bittersweet feeling of watching the video as it will be a year almost without him but great memories nontheless
There is always something special to firing a gun in a Remedy game. I don't know why, but there is always something there that games from other devs don't have. And it's there from the OG Max Payne all the way to Control. Always good to revisit these.
Hi, I'm a mo cap performer and I gotta say I spend hours doing vocal exercises to Max's monologues. Great video! I also wanted to share a painful story of mine about the new Resident Evil Remakes. In late 2015 I was in contact with Capcom about the motion capture role of Leon for the RE 2 Remake. I failed to mention I also have a voice acting background, in the end I lost the part...☹ Now many years later, when I see how successful those remakes are I can't forgive myself for wasting such an opportunity. In this business one audition can change your entire life.
I think The Longest Journey/Dreamfall games would be a neat addition to this series at some point down the line. I remember loving it as a kid, but it also creeping me out at times.
Harry, awesome video man! Greatly appreciate the hard work you put in on decoding video games. A lot of the ones you mention on your channel are games I grew up with (like Max Payne) and you always manage to shed some new insightful view on it that makes me revisit them. Looking forward to seeing more of your amazing work!
Max Payne is STILL one of my favorite shooter series of all time! I own all 3 games... Played 1 and 2 multiple times over. Hard to believe its been 22 years...CRAZY. Thank you for covering the game. Severely under appreciated in my humble opinion.
all i could remember from this game was trying to walk on a thin red line and a baby crying in the background, surrounded by darkness. OH since your doing ps1 and ps2 games i really hope you do Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver, its a game thats really close to my heart and has in my opinion one the greatest stories and voice acting in any game.
My knee is hurting just to read that many here used to watch their dad play this game 🥲 This video really hit me with nostalgia. I just bought the remastered version from Steam. I know what I will be playing next. I wonder if the god mode still works in this version.
Played this on the original xbox. My best friend had given my the console along with this game. Was the first game i had played all the way through. ... miss them days. Miss my friend.
Oh god, how I remember finding a copy of this at Blockbusters. I didn't think much of it at the time, but an employee told me that I should really play it. After playing it, I begged and begged my folks to buy me an actual copy for my PS2. They never did get it for me. But one of my cousins got to borrow his friend's copy, and we played it together. Money was tight for us back then. Actually getting a game console was a big deal for us. So, renting games, and borrowing from family and friends was how we did it. But I remember that game being such a trip.
Played Max Payne for the first time last year and I must say it was incredible for a game older than me it aged very well. Loved the dialog and the brooding character of Max Payne very reminiscent of John Wick and the Matrix.
Another really fun video! I always wondered about Max Payne but couldn't really get into it myself as it's been such a long time. Your video made it really clear and easy to understand.
Absolutely loving this series so far! Im not sure if this would fall into the scope you're looking for, and it was on Gamecube, but Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem is a game I would LOVE to see you do! All these years later I still consider it one of the best.
Really into Norse mythology, it's funny how Woden is portrayed as this mystical all-knowing person in the background cause it is just another name for Odin plus he has one eye. Bit on the nose but I love it.
I never played this game, but I’ve heard of it during a WatchMojo game controversy video. Apparently, this game was release a few months prior to the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and it had to be recalled for a while because the Twin Towers appear in that game.
Seriously? I was playing Max Payne 3 and was literally about to ask on one of your videos to cover Max Payne. Wow... Maybe it was at the back of my head since you covered other remedy games. Curious to see how they'll connect them all.
I am looking forward for this Max Payne remake the graphics really need an upgrade. Also that LA Noire video is really taking awhile huh. It's fine i can still wait
There's so many good QOL mods that makes it still worth playing. If you haven't played the first person mod, I highly recommend it and some of the 4K texture packs
Unimportant detail but I find it funny when at 15:57 they shot him multiple times in the head (eyes) but I keep thinking that he was already fall to the ground after the first/second shot so basically they shot nothing 😂
Can you make a story video about Resident Evil Revelations? I feel the Terragrigia Panic is very overlooked on RE lore. Specially since the event was just as bad as Raccoon city
Man, I gotta go back and play through this as an adult. I was 5 when it released and 8 when I played it for the first time, enjoying the cool bullet time effect and fun gunplay, but I definitely wasn't interested in following the story. Seems like one I would genuinely enjoy nowadays!
Lifeline was a super frustrating but interesting game, just cause the voice recognition hated my partner at the time. But after struggling to identify an item for 20 minutes, naming anything it looks like, finally we tell the character to kill themselves. We get a I don't understand message and start laughing, telling them "bang bang". FINALLY they react, "Oh, the oxygen mask?" And we almost died laughing. The object on the wall looked nothing like a mask, plus what kind of accent must someone have for 'oxygen mask' to be pronounced like 'bang bang'? Just an idea for the retro vault. Lol
Dude.. hearing PS3 referred to as old really makes me feel old as fuck..... I still remember the time when the ps2 came out, my brother had just come back from college for break and with him, a new ps2 and gta3... the little 9 year old in me blown away... Also, "...development heavily inspired by the hong kong action genre, in particular legendary director john wu...i guess you could also say it was also heavily inspired by the 1999 action movie the matrix" .... also heavily inspired by john wu....XD
052: matrix came after max payne so bullet time effect was not inspired by matrix. max payne demo with bullet time combo was already shown in E3 in 1998. matrix came in 1999 so you do the math who inspired who? max payne was inspired by hongkong movies that had slow mo actions YES
Reminds me of 2001 in computing studies in high school. We'd play it during class hahaha
I grew up as a wide-eyed little girl watching my father play through this series of games on his PS2. He's a big part of the reason I'm a gamer now. Thanks Mike; this video brought back that family nostalgia hard-core. 😊❤

For me it was my uncle then I got his memory card with the game saved on it and then some… also we should be friends
Why did you call your father Mike ?
I cant believe its been 22 years since Max Payne, Remedy Entertainment did excellent job making that series, timeless classic
Damn 22 years!!! Shit I’m ole 😂😂😂😂
you make me realize why it was such a hard game for me :c i was 6 then
Can't believe 22 years ago, was already in the 2000s.
@@KrackedtheFup you ever think those games had more quality? I think if we brought them back the classics they would hold up today 💯
Excited to see if the remake is any good!
Love the vids, mate 🍻

11:06 BaseballBat-boy?! There should be a captain in there somewhere
I think The Longest Journey/Dreamfall games would be a neat addition to this series at some point down the line. I remember loving it as a kid, but it also creeping me out at times.
This is the most comprehensive video I've seen. Cool work
Thanks for the blast of nostalgia, my dad used to play this on PC all the time!
Nice job Harry. As always. Can't wait for next one 👍👏👏👏
Just played through it last month its still mint and the difficulty curve is so great
Harry, awesome video man! Greatly appreciate the hard work you put in on decoding video games. the video was bomb as always, thanks harry!
I cannot wait for the remakes. The gameplay is so airtight to me that a fresh coat of paint is all it really needs.
Dead 2 Rights would be a great entry to the vault. I loved that game back in the day.
more of this would be awesome
Personal suggestions for The Retro Vault.
1) Parasite Eve
2) GTA 4
3) Predator: Concrete Jungle
4) F.E.A.R
5) Dead Rising
Loving the Retro Vault series ❤
Grabbing my heart as you tell us the old game consoles you're covering
all i could remember from this game was trying to walk on a thin red line and a baby crying in the background, surrounded by darkness. OH since your doing ps1 and ps2 games i really hope you do Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver, its a game thats really close to my heart and has in my opinion one the greatest stories and voice acting in any game.
Remedy makes some of the most iconic games, and you make the most iconic videos! Loving the retro vault.
"Max, dearest of all my friends"
My knee is hurting just to read that many here used to watch their dad play this game 🥲 This video really hit me with nostalgia. I just bought the remastered version from Steam. I know what I will be playing next. I wonder if the god mode still works in this version.
Thug: "Aren't you supposed to be a cop or something?"
Max Payne: "Not tonight".
Played this on the original xbox. My best friend had given my the console along with this game. Was the first game i had played all the way through. ... miss them days. Miss my friend.

I played this back in 2021 for the first time, great game that still holds up to this day.
I really like this revisit of what are now retro games!
god, I love the pulpy dialogue in this game
Another really fun video! I always wondered about Max Payne but couldn't really get into it myself as it's been such a long time. Your video made it really clear and easy to understand.
I think of this game every time it snows hard and the streets are empty
Absolutely loving this series so far!
Im not sure if this would fall into the scope you're looking for, and it was on Gamecube, but Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem is a game I would LOVE to see you do! All these years later I still consider it one of the best.
Max Payne wasn’t influenced by the Matrix at all. The movie came out while the game was still being developed.
Really into Norse mythology, it's funny how Woden is portrayed as this mystical all-knowing person in the background cause it is just another name for Odin plus he has one eye. Bit on the nose but I love it.
I never played this game, but I’ve heard of it during a WatchMojo game controversy video.

Wait, they are remaking the first two? Awesome!
Ill always love the first max payne. It was one of my first games i ever played on the og xbox
Max payne had a great modding scene too. A lot of stylish weapon packs and kung fu that you could use to easily blaze through the levels.
I think it would be cool to see Harry cover The Darkness.
Love the max Payne series played all 3
I have all the MPs right next to my game setup right now. I kinda wanna run it back! also great recap as always mate
Damn hearing the music in the beginning brings back so much nostalgia
"Goggniti bailed
I made like Chow Yun Fat"
Never forgotten this quote😂
Love Max Payne games 🤩
Can't belive you didn't mentuoned that Max can play piano, and the best soup opera of any game that can be viewed in tv's in different levels 😂
Seriously? I was playing Max Payne 3 and was literally about to ask on one of your videos to cover Max Payne. Wow... Maybe it was at the back of my head since you covered other remedy games. Curious to see how they'll connect them all.
Really liking this new series!
I played Max Payne 2 on my shitty Compaq laptop and it was glorious. Love Max Payne
Loved both these games. Really hope the do a good job on the remakes.
16:00 is hilarious overkill
I played this game when I was in high school 2004. DAMN I'M OLD 😅
I am looking forward for this Max Payne remake the graphics really need an upgrade. Also that LA Noire video is really taking awhile huh. It's fine i can still wait
Man I loved 3 especially the music would love to get a 4, 3 did a great job showing a broken man imo
There's so many good QOL mods that makes it still worth playing.
If you haven't played the first person mod, I highly recommend it and some of the 4K texture packs
Im glad that max payne hasnt had any news about the remake from remedy, it means they're cooking
Please continue this series!
Max Payne is retro now. I’m soo old 😂
Unimportant detail but I find it funny when at 15:57 they shot him multiple times in the head (eyes) but I keep thinking that he was already fall to the ground after the first/second shot so basically they shot nothing 😂
2001 was a crazy year
The writing in this game is phenomenal 😂
Can you cover the other condemned game? I’d like to hear the next installment in that series
Love your channel,
and Id love you to cover the story of "Fear and Hunger"
oooh nice one !
Max Payne, proof that just becasue sometihngs old and dated, dosnt make it any less awesome
Nostalgia!!!!
RIP to James ! you will be missed
Can you make a story video about Resident Evil Revelations? I feel the Terragrigia Panic is very overlooked on RE lore. Specially since the event was just as bad as Raccoon city
I don't why i spent my time on this since i adore Max Payne, but the video is great)
Syberia, Broken Sword? Spent many hours playing those on my Grandad's computer as a child with my sisters, printed walkthrough in hand.
Can the third retro-vault be indigo prophecy? I loved that game's mechanics and stoty!
Man, I gotta go back and play through this as an adult. I was 5 when it released and 8 when I played it for the first time, enjoying the cool bullet time effect and fun gunplay, but I definitely wasn't interested in following the story. Seems like one I would genuinely enjoy nowadays!
Max payne 2 soon?
Hi, been a fan a while ago, would you cover an explained story about devour? about azazel and the lore. Thank you!

Sorry this is off topic but where is your condemned 2 vid? Could you link it for me?
The character of Max Payne is a Finnish man at his best and worst filtered through a New York noir setting.
9:34 relative ease huh? That mf was the hardest part for me back when I first played
Me to
❤❤❤
Everyone says bullet rime was thanks to the matrix film but this preceded it
Damn i want a max payne remake
How much longer for those damn remakes anyway?
Lots of horrific moments in MP1. 👀
what happened to condemned 2???
Man I am so old.... where did the time go lol😅
Max Payne 3 is the best 3rd person shooter of all time.
Can you do the part 2 and 3 please
Thanks
Man you gotta do max Payne 2 now.
You gotta do Max Payne 2 and 3.
Please look up the Clock Tower game series!
Never noticed how deep the Norse mytho went into this game! Woden=Odin duhhh
This game has not aged well...
The dialogue is like a poor man's take on noir. It comes across as a bad porno instead.
Talk about medievil next. Both games.
Why are you using console footage instead of the pc version lol
Why does that matter? Ohhh, you’re part of the master race. I get it.
Harry I’ll give you half my lunch if you tell me what the next retrovault subject will be.
Easy with the candy spoiler but I guess if no one's gonna play this game might as well.
052: matrix came after max payne so bullet time effect was not inspired by matrix. max payne demo with bullet time combo was already shown in E3 in 1998. matrix came in 1999 so you do the math who inspired who? max payne was inspired by hongkong movies that had slow mo actions YES
