Buttigieg is so good at explaining these things. A talking point for authoritarianism is often the fiction of efficiency, which ignores how it is done. Disregarding fairness and people's rights in the name of speed is not the way to do it.
I agree. If we all were mindless, emotionless automatons, perhaps authoritarianism would have its place because then only efficiency would matter and everyone would be able to do exactly as told without emotion. However, we are social creatures of flesh and blood. We have hopes, dreams, fears, needs and wants. We desire meaningful connections to others, we need a purpose for doing something. We don't do well with being completely isolated in some factory doing work we don't even know what it's for and without end in sight, just because a dictator has said so.
He is not good at explaining anything to adults, maybe children. He's a very small cog in a very large authoritarian machine
You're right in that, unfortunately, we have to negotiate with the other side, often giving some ground to the extremists in Congress. If many more Americans voted during mid-term elections, we would have far fewer of these extremists in Congress, and Trump would have been kicked out of office during his presidency, tried and convicted, and in prison where that sociopathic orange-faced Cheeto fascist belongs.

He is such a great communicator. Credit to him and Gavin Newsom for going on FOX every so often to communicate to the GOP who lets face it are being sold a "sanitized" version of reality. As an aside, I really think that Nicole should have gotten the Meet the Press job. She is so much better at pivoting and calling people on their BS if they start to sell the audience a few porkies for the other guy.
If you want a population to want democracy, you must have a good education system.
History and civics lessons can teach children to understand what these types of governments mean.
Do these people want to live in a school-like environment, told what to do and where they can go and those who hate that and cause trouble within this small closed space. After all a school is a dictatorship.
