You don’t have to be retired, the criteria is 25 years after the release of your first studio record. Radiohead, Pearl Jam and Green Day are still around and they’re in. SP’s first LP was in ‘93 so they are eligible

You know my kids think you're the greatest, and thanks to your gloomy music they've finally stopped dreaming of a future I can't possibly provide..... H.Simpson
This song...hell, the whole album was a soundtrack for a very unique, awkward, at times frightening, and pivotal time in my youth. I was a lost and confused 21 year old who didn't know quite how to come to terms with life in general. Somehow...this made sense.
I hear you man, same for me. The lyrics just spoke to me, as if Billy was there to speak my mind while I couldn't find the words to describe my thoughts and feelings.
How are they not in the Hall Of Fame? Because Billy has been a guest on Alex Jones. That's why. He actually supports human freedom. Free speech. Free Will. Eventually. He Will get in. For being brave.
That means he definitely doesn’t care about being inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Things like that don’t matter when you’re older and have it figured out. Good for him. Makes me like him more.
I fear that I am ordinary just like everyone To lie here and die among the sorrows Adrift among the days For everything I ever said And everything I've ever done is gone and dead As all things must surely have to end And great loves will one day have to part I know that I am meant for this world My life has been extraordinary Blessed and cursed and won Time heals but I'm forever broken By and by the way Have you ever heard the words I'm singing in these songs? It's for the girl I've loved all along Can a taste of love be so wrong As all things must surely have to end And great loves will one day have to part I know that I am meant for this world And in my mind as I was floating Far above the clouds Some children laughed I'd fall for certain For thinking that I'd last forever But I knew exactly where I was And I knew the meaning of it all And I knew the distance to the sun And I knew the echo that is love And I knew the secrets in your spires And I knew the emptiness of youth And I knew the solitude of heart And I knew the murmurs of the soul And the world is drawn into your hands And the world is etched upon your heart And the world so hard to understand Is the world your can't live without And I knew the silence of the world
The best song from probably the best album of all time - back when recording artists were allowed to be complicated because the love for their music was simple
Best song is a bold claim, though I do love this song. Too many bests on that album to name a single best IMHO. Thru the eyes of Ruby, In the arms of sleep, Porcelina of the vast oceans, 33, and 1979 are all at least equally up there to name just a few. I think it would probably be easier and quicker to just name the less exceptional songs: .... Done. That WAS easier!
I had a foreign exchange student from Budapest in 95 96 97 that lived with my family in Illinois close to St. Louis. We has the same birthday only he was 2 years older and this was his favorite song. We got tickets to see the pumpkins at the keil center in 95. It was my first time going to a concert and you guys blew our minds. I will never forget that night.
Kyle McVey I grew up in Collinsville. You might be a few years older than me but generally speaking.. I was in that place at that time. I totally remember it all, fondly.
Billy is my favorite songwriter and artist. I’m a 90’s kid and my father would play his music throughout my childhood. His music is so nostalgic and resonates with me in a special way. Listening to his music is like walking into my childhood home that I haven’t been in over a decade. Incredible performance as always billy
Songwriter, agreed. Singer? Chris Cornell, Layne Staley, Scott Weiland, and of course, Freddie Mercury have entered the chat. LOL Too difficult to make that call but I'd say Billy is at least in the conversation. He's definitely the best singer of that time period still alive, though.
wow - his vocals are way more on point here than i've heard him with the full band - love to hear this one acoustic -it's definitely one of my top three fav. pumpkins songs, depending on the day.
@@AP530 Not only did he write it he played most of the instrument parts in the songs on the album. Look I’m not a huge Corgan fan but dude is a master composer.
Wow I didn't know this was a Mellon song. I should have known by the sound, tone, and progression. How I wish this wasn't just a signature of that time. I would love for more songs to have this style and feel these days. Thankfully we have it at all.
favorite song, favorite band. i would have absolutely gone insane if I could have witnessed this event. they'll be in the hall of fame undoubtedly after a little while. all great bands and musicians that have made it there have to go through the usual waiting period. They will make it and there will be a big shebang about it
I can’t help but keep watching and listening to this! Billy, come to Atlantic Canada and bring your acoustic guitar and I’ll make sure you have a crowd to play to!
In the middle of Mellon Collie an the Infinite Sadness (a title I was very related to in a part of my life) I found out this GEM and my life was never the same. It's because these little great things that SP has a special space in my heart. Thank you!
can you imagine walking into a coffee house and seeing a bald six foot three performer playing his guitar over by the coffee bean section and it's billy corgan.
I think I found a new favorite Pumpkins song! Wow! If you were unfortunate to experience neglect and isolation as a child then you know just how tragic the cosequences are as an adult in forming relationships. You Cling on so tightly because anything is better than being alone again. You hold on dearly feeling, "Happiness", The trouble comes as you build up this emotional tab that one day must be paid. So, You end up basically with two speeds of relating to others, you either are smothering in intimacy or you cut bait and run feeling stupid for ever thinking the other person cared about you at all. "I knew the silence of the world" . Take a bow Bill, I hear you!!!!
I'm 45 and proud to tell my kids I remember when magic was real
Results are in: Billie never needed auto-tune. That was beautiful Mr. Corgan.
PHENOMENAL song by an underrated genius!!! How the HELL are The Smashing Pumpkins not in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame already?!!
Larry Schemelia, Jr. - it hasnt been 20 years yet. Doesnt the band have to habe been retired for 20 years before consideration to R&R H.O.F.?

Of all the tremendous tracks, for some reason, this one resonates in a special way to me - I can't explain it, nor will I ever try to.

Far above the clouds
Some children laughed I'd fall for certain
For thinking that I'd last forever
But I knew exactly where I was
And I knew the meaning of it all
And I knew the distance to the sun
And I knew the echo that is love
And I knew the secrets in your spires

You know it’s a great song when it can be performed with just acoustic and vocals! Fantastic rendition!!

This acoustic version is arguably better than the full band, studio rendition.
My favorite Pumpkins song. Ever. Thanks!!!!!❤️🤘
Sometimes I'm still torn about the very classic Tonight Tonight, but... I choose this one, eventually :D
thru the eyes of ruby... and muzzle.. no other songs exist
One of the Best Songs ever Written! And Corgan is probably the must talented Singer/Musician In our generation…,

Agree 100%
One of my top 3 as well.
I'd like to hear Frail and Bedazzled acoustic
He’s trying harder because it’s so much more intimate. He is putting 100 effort in
You may or may not like his voice but there is no disputing his song writing genius.
Did he even write it? Lol. None of these "stars" write their music
@@AP530 Not only did he write it he played most of the instrument parts in the songs on the album. Look I’m not a huge Corgan fan but dude is a master composer.
@@fitfogey he writes none of them. His handlers write all the songs. Billy is a fake
We had no idea back then how good the artists were……
Another has been that never was full of haterade. LOL
On a previous video, Billy talked about the emotional element of a song and of songwriting. That comes out beautifully here.
My favourite song done justice.
This is one of my favorites… beautifully written.
Omg, this is so precious i cried. Pure emotion, Billy's talent and my fave SP song. I am sooooo overwhelmed!
Yep 😢😊
Damn! That's BEAUTIFUL.

Greatest band of the 90s and my favorite band of all time. Billy is pure talent, hell of a guitar player and that C sharp voice is unmatched.
