Billy circa Siamese Dream at the Grind in Phoenix - "Our slow songs are NOT a chance for you to all stand there and talk!!"
Me - "No, but they're a great chance to go to the bathroom!!"
As i turned to go run to the restroom, and heard the whole crowd laugh, i watched as Billy Corgan stared daggers at me. ;)

Just came here from that Manson, Limp Bizkit, & Corgan video. Where they were all chill w/ each other. Random but I hate it when ppl just start making random, superficial comments about artists. Maybe it's a bit sexist, I'd expect it more from males. But it's like no, females do this too. In relation to opposite sex's. But sometimes I'll be looking at comments like 🤔 I mean, r u trying to be a groupie or what? Bc I don't get the purpose or point. Idrgaf what artists look like, I mainly only care about the message. Or if it puts me in good spirits. How somebody looks is irrevelant. I mean, I'm sure looks help. But then again that lost prophets guy is physically handsome... The f? I feel like looks r just a bonus. But it's not rare or anything, idk. I'm just too busy trying to look beyond that sh. Not that I'm big on any of those bands either but 🤷 Its not like I ever claim to be great at ass kissing... Ill comment that smashing pumpkins takes lead tho. Even tho I know like this many songs by them 👌😁

I have a 1979 Strat. It has aged wonderfully, not bad at all , heavy in weight but not bad.

When I was 13 I saved all my money and ordered a Harmony "Stratocaster" from the Sears Wishbook.
Played it with a friend as often as we could get together.
He got killed in an accident when we were 15. Another friend who worked part-time in the jewelry store engraved the guitar's neck plate for me with a memory of him.
About ten years ago a burglar kicked in my back door and took the guitar from me. He might have gotten $25 for it at a pawn shop---it was nothing special as far as an instrument.
I am glad Billy got his Fender back.

I think I have that same guitar - red Strat knockoff from the Sears catalog. Got it when I was about 14, played with various "garage bands" consisting of whatever high school/college friends actually knew how to play an instrument. We would basically just sit around in someone's bedroom, or basement, and try to figure out how to play a few songs together and not sound like complete crap.
I haven't played that damn guitar in about 22 years, but I still know where it is, and it would be an absolute gut punch to lose it. It's hard to describe why certain physical objects hold so much meaning. It doesn't make any sense... just like when Billy says, "it's just a piece of wood and some wires, but it means so much more to me".
I hope you get your guitar back someday.

Billy is dead on regarding the relevance of “The Gish Sound”. The beautiful jangley clean tones mixed with the amazing fuzz infused almost out of control tone of that Strat through the old Marshall’s up against James Iha’s chunky Les Paul tones was a recipe for one of the best guitar combo tones ever recorded. I was actually at the show at Saint Andrews hall in 1992 where this guitar got stolen and the show was absolutely unbelievable, one I will never forget! Without a doubt absolutely had an influence on me as a musician for the rest of my life. Not only is it awesome that he got this guitar back, it actually seems as though it sat hanging on the basement wall somewhere basically unplayed until it was returned to its rightful owner 👍

I then started checking out eBay. That was the longest shot, but I had nothing to lose. After 9 years of searching, I actually found it. There was no doubt it was the one. The turquoise flecks were identical. The seller was in Texas... I am in California! It was $36 and I of course bought it immediately. When it came in the mail, I felt complete again. Like a part of me that was missing, was returned. I am wearing it was I write this. May your guitar never again leave you, and may you make more beautiful music with her for years to come.

Alright, first of all let me tell you that my wife laughed at me because I almost cried but it's true, the moment I read about this I was so damn happy for Billy that I just couldn't help it. This might look like a meaningless event for some people, slightly meaningful for others, but only a guitarist knows that feeling when you finally find your sound and no matter what, even if you switch guitars you still have the ONE that makes you feel like a kid in a candy shop. Some people swap pickups, or sell their guitar and find what they're looking and some don't and they spend months, even years triying to get that magic back... And they might never get it back. So, Billy, from one grown up kid to another grown , hope you never lose it again

My best friend growing up had parents who owned a concert club and Weezer came thru on their first tour. They asked us if we could help load their gear into the bus and Rivers hands me, a total stranger, his guitar case. While I never thought about stealing it, I was shocked at the trust. Of course if it went missing it would have been obvious who took it and they knew where I lived etc. But I couldnt imagine handing my guitar to a stranger and I'm nobody. They gave us a cheese and cracker spread with some cokes along with t-shirts and autographed flats for helping which I would have gladly done just for the experience! Great guys.

More than 10-years later he is scrolling through instrument auctions and notices a violin up for auction through Christies; he thought it was his. Anyway, they go back and forth verifying that he was the rightful owner. He ended up both getting the violin back, and catching the thief in the process. @@Uncannyguitar It is. I have one. Its nothing flashy but all the parts are solid. Its like a USA Strat but the finish will naturally relic itself quicker.

I am happy that Billy got his guitar back, but it sent a chill down my spine when I saw James and Billy smiling together.

It's probably indescribable how good that guitar felt, literally, in his hands again. Like rediscovering the curves of a lost love.

I remember being in my car driving home but I would circle the block so that I could continue listening to Gish. Such a distinct sound during that era.

Every song he played on that guitar in the video, NEEDED that sound. So many amazing songs from Gish era, and Drown. I've watched this video several times, and it sparks nostalgia for one of the greatest sounds ever. So harmonic with the octaves and man I miss this particular Pumpkins sound.

That is an amazing fucking story. The best part was seeing you and James together with the lost guitar.. I would love to see you guys do an antiques rock roadshow together. Maybe when you are older.

Dude! Sweet idea! Maybe they could throw in some Gish era tracks that didn't make the cut. Starla, Plume, Obscured, La Dolly Vita etc.

Or a new friend - I don't think I heard Drown when it came out, but that was an excellent way to end the video.
