It's funny that you mentioned Rowan Kid Silk. I work in a library and I've started a knitting and crochet club. In response, ALL of our branch libraries sent me boxes and boxes of yarn they had leftover from ages of bygone knitting and crocheting programs. While digging through the mostly acrylic yarn, I found two balls of Rowan Kid Silk in this lovely avocado color, which I declared mine because the newbies in my club wouldn't know what to do with it. So I'm pairing it with a pretty speckled skein to make Petite Knit's Honey Clutch as we speak.
I LOVE this story so much, thanks for sharing! What a treat to get something so luxurious for free 😍 I've been a page, library technician, and library outreach assistant before so I'm so happy to hear you work in the industry! Such a special job ❤
As a crocheter who is just starting learning to knit, I'd love to see a video from you discussing how you made the transition - things that were hard, things that were easy, tips and tricks you picked up, things you wish you knew, etc. Also, that green is stunning. 😍
All of your FO’s are beautiful!! I knit the Anker jacket for my grandaughter and I just loved the result! So cute! Also knit slightly oversized and she has gotten a lot of wear out if it. Nothing better than taking her out and about and getting compliments! Your niece is very lucky to have a knitting auntie😊 Really enjoy your podcast.
If you decide to soak that red yarn, you can do a heated acid bath. Add citric acid to water (buy it at the grocery store in the canning/preserving section), dunk your yarn, then gently lay it on some foil and wrap it into a packet. Pop it in your oven at like 175 for an hour. Let it cool, then rinse. His helps set the dye again.
I knitted a Stephen West shawl last year and the red section ran into the cream section when I washed it and it turned pale pink…. I mentioned this in a comment and someone advised me next time to put a ‘colour catcher’ into the water when soaking the garment to ensure that the colours don’t run. I have done this since and it has worked for me. You can buy a box of ‘colour catchers’ from supermarkets in the UK or Amazon, they are small sheets of paper like substances which you place into the warm soapy water, I also used a further one when rinsing. Good luck and thanks for the great podcasts!
If you're worried about that red bleeding into the oatmeal, you could knit a small striped swatch and block it the way you plan to block the sweater and see what happens. That way you'll get a bit more information than if you just block the skein. Loved the episode! Thinking I might need to cast on a Lento because it really is beautiful!
Literally I am so anti-swatch this didn't even cross my mind, and I am LOLing at myself. Such a simple solution. Thank you for sharing 😅 let me know if you do a Lento, would love to hear what yarn you use!
Omg knitting friend FaceTimes??? My dream! 😍 your sweaters always come out looking so refined and beautiful. Cannot wait to see that green sweater on you! That color-work sweater is now on my dream knits list because STUNNING
REFINED stop it Ally, you are too kind 🤩 OMG, please make the My Fletching! I would LOVE to see your yarn choice and colors for it! I know they would be so good ❤
I am soooo happy you decided to continue with the green yarn! The combination is sooo pretty 😻😻 also omg cablessss and colorwork!! Still something that's on my list for later in the year haha but it's so great to see you slowly getting into it 😆
Thank you!!! It wasn't in the plan to try new techniques this early in the year but I felt the call and had to listen 😆 and I am so glad about the green too! Thank you color guruuuu! 🤣
I never do the slip stitch rows for italian bind off! I just go right into it and it always looks perfectly fine to me... lol! Love the colour of that sweater :)
Just recently found your channel here and wanted to drop in and say a big thanks! for showcasing my yarn in your giveaway! (I'm Bigfoot Yarn) I'm excited to see the sock twins patterns!!!
Agree with what someone else said, knit a swatch and checks to see if bleeds when you soak & block it. Also if you check out Andrea Mowry's UA-cam podcast, she recently addressed this issue in a very recent episode (ep #104) from March 3rd.
I love that Explorer Knits sock set! That’s the only one I had my eye on as well but I couldn’t justify driving all the way over (from Spokane) for a single sock set. I’m excited to see how yours knit up!
I'm very much on the crochet side of fiber arts, but I just love seeing what you're able to create with knit and your commentary on the projects! Lovely video ^^
38:03 if you’re worried about the red bleeding, you can knit your swatch in the red and block it and see if it bleeds. That’s what I would do if I was concerned. Or there are color catcher you can use when you’re soaking the sweater.
Yes that’s definitely what I’ll try! I’m still laughing because I dislike swatching so much I didn’t even think to do that 🤣 but for sure an easier option. Thanks for the feedback!
Oh man, the way I waited for a free moment during our trip to finally watch your newest episode! Love the different colours shimmering in your lento sweater, it reminds me of the inside of shells (: I was about to message you that we could move our knitting plans to a later point when you said they weren't :'D you're killing it with those finished objects though, and I can't wait to see how your WIPs turn out (especially those cable socks *__*)
Amazing colour for your Port sweater! Love it! One day your hair will turn grey (like me) and you won’t be able to wear earth tones very well anymore. Enjoy!!
you look so glowy! 💛 your lento really turned out beautifully even though it might have been a rocky ride to get there, I really think it’s worth it - suits you so well! 🌸 I‘m looking at my yarn swap package that’s sitting next to our tv and it’s taking everything in me not just go on and open it - the anticipation is wrecking me ahah🫠 can’t wait for mine to get though customs and arrive at your doorstep so we can facetime & unpack together 🧡
Omg the temptation would be so hard to resist 😅 I can't wait for you to see what's in it too, hehe. AHH I now see it in the photo you sent me! I could not have finished the Lento without you so thanks for your virtual support as always 😊
I’ve not noticed the yarn that moved shop to bainbridge. I realize I haven’t been down that road the last few years so I’ll need to visit next time I visit.
it's always fun to see what you've been knitting and your enthusiasm for our sport - i was wondering when/if you'd try color work, and now i'm going to be wondering if you will do it by throwing and picking, with a color in each hand, or, both yarns in one hand - or maybe a ring?
Thank you Patricia! La Mercerie will have the Explorer Knits Seattle collection available online later this year. Make sure you sign up for their email newsletter!

Smart! I’ll swatch it and if that happens I’ll be sure to add one of those! Thanks for the feedback!

If you are worried about colour bleeding, get some synthrapol at a quilting store. It's meant to get excess dyes out of fabric. Works a treat!
Thanks for the tip!

@@truelaneknits oh I feel you. I also hate swatching. I don’t think I would get concerned enough to get to the point of swatching 🤣

That green of the Port Sweater is SO gorgeous!! Now I really want to make myself a sweater in that color
Do it! It’s been such a pleasure to knit up.
I made the anker's sweater for a similarly small 19 month old and it works just fine rolled up :)
Yes, I’m planning to make it a little big so she can wear it longer! Hopefully rolling it up will be perfect for now ❤
Amazing colour for your Port sweater! Love it! One day your hair will turn grey (like me) and you won’t be able to wear earth tones very well anymore. Enjoy!!
Thanks Kathy! I don’t believe in not wearing certain colors, I’ll wear it forever 🤣
Hi 👋🏻 I think to see if the Color will bleed, you could just do a swatch with both yarns and wash it 🙈 hope this helps!😊
MY HERO. Thank you for helping me find the simplest solution 😂 I will absolutely do this!
Omg that bright burnt red for your colour work sweater is to die for!!
Thank you!! So excited to start working with it!
Thanks for the podcast recommendation on picking up underarm stitches. I was struggling with this the other day and winging it with variable results.
Ye ! I feel really lucky :) Another lovely episode with great makes ! Your sweaters look amazing, and your color choices are really inspiring.
I got your email, Sarah! Congratulations! I’ll be sending it out super soon and will let you know when I do 😍
I totally underestimated how good your Port Sweater colourways would look together! It looks amazing!!
Omg I did the same thing! I’m so happy I stuck with it!
When you held up your Port sweater, it looked so good “on” you! Soo glad you kept with it ❤
Thank you so much! I am too, I can’t wait to wear it 😍

It’s in a WONDERFUL space!

Listening from a farm in Connecticut and sending all the vibes your way! ✨
Stop. Inviting myself on a work-stay visit 😂 thanks for sharing!
Yes that green is the right choice for you. Gorgeous.
And the Morning Ritual set. 😍
And Pikes Place.😍
Does one need to live in PNW to get this yarn?
Thank you Patricia! La Mercerie will have the Explorer Knits Seattle collection available online later this year. Make sure you sign up for their email newsletter!
My knit goal is to meet Ali from EKF so lucky you lol. I ordered Chinle in boucle for the port sweater from her NP collection 😊
You will love her when you do. Lucky you for ordering! I wanted boucle EVERYTHING!
