In this video I am building an expanding pedestal dining table for a friend’s restaurant. I really wanted to stretch my skills and try some things I had only done in smaller pieces, or not at all. It was a marathon of a build, and I am super happy with the finished piece. This build included plenty of interesting techniques including turning, cutting veneers, router inlays, segmented rings, cutting circles, and more!

This was perfect as a vanity desk for me. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxMAlHv7-BBWMrPRm5-uEoD6rtdT7SG2Qr Especially the glossy finish. Easy to cleanI was looking for something that wasn't the traditional white and with more of a modern feel. This fit the bill beautifully. I put it together with no problems, by myself in under an hour.Make sure you double check where you place the drawer tracks before screwing down. I had one track that needed to be aligned with different holes than the rest.
This is a valuable addition to my woodwork collection ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO I still will rate this woodwork plan as the best in my reference library. It always seem to stand out from the rest whenever you go through the library. This is a masterpiece.
Legit was startled when he said thickni without any hesitation. No fear in this man
I'm not messing around anymore. Own it!
I guess hes not down with the thickness.

Glad to see that your friend’s restaurant survived the coof.
That’s one sexy table. Love how the insert piece is a bit lighter walnut and just gives it such a cool contrast. Great job
Thanks, Bart! Yeah, I wanted it to be subtle, but still be able to see it if you look close enough. Glad that came across!
Guys....that table is incredible. True craftsmanship is becoming exceedingly rare, especially at this caliber. Well done!
STEPPING UP YOUR GAME SON
Doing my best! Thanks man!
You guys KILLED this one! Great work as always!
Appreciate it, man! Thanks!
Absofreekinglootly killed it! Love that table. And the fact you guys can still put out content to help keep sanity alive in this new stay at home world!
Happy to hear that, Andrew! We feel very fortunate to be able to keep producing during all of this. Thanks for watching!
I admire your ability to take on projects that challenge you. I need to do that more. Thanks for the inspiration. I paused at the finished table top and just stared at it for a couple of minutes. It “Ran so far away” in my head. Amazing! I love your attention to detail.
Thanks Andrew! Really appreciate it!
So cool 🤘🏻
Thank you!
Blessed are those handy hands... they just made some piece of art that the assembly line can yet make... there's too much love in that table, too much sacral too... adore it... stay creative buddy....
I love that reveal of the finished turned base, can't quite see it when you guys are bringing it over, out-of-focus shot, and them BAM!
Haha, glad you appreciated that! Thanks Dave!
Beautiful table & great build! Thanks for posting!
Shaun, that’s a great build. I love the fact that you made your own veneers.
Thanks Bodie! This one was a really fun challenge.
That’s next level my friend. Awesome work. Glad you can keep going through these troubling times. I’m finding inspiration in my garden again which has lacked for some time. Just starting to get cooler here in Australia, so nice to be outside when I can. Working from home so I get to look outside at what I’m accomplishing every day. 👍. Stay safe. 👍
Yeah, I feel very lucky to have some form of normalcy during all of this. Glad to hear you have some, as well. Stay safe!
Absolutely awesome project. The jokes are so welcome!. You are the woodworking version of This Old Tony! Cheers from Buenos Aires.
Thanks Jorge! Never watched This Old Tony, will have to check it out!
This FANTASTIC PROJECT "BEST OF THE BEST"
Thanks Edward!
Every project is so well done. Definitely spending quarantine far more productive than me.
Haha, really appreciate it! Definitely feel fortunate to be able to keep working during all of this.
Absolutely incredible! Gorgeous table and amazing build
Beautiful job. Very impressed with the size of your turned base. Thanks
That look amazing Shaun! I hope you keep trying new things, we’re all here to support it :)
Really appreciate that! Trying new stuff is the best part about all of this.
Awesome craftsmanship. And absolutely beautiful.
Thank you for keeping us entertained during these times ♥️😤! Love the vids !
Really happy to hear that, glad we can offer some entertainment!
Amazing work! Absolutely beautiful!
Thanks Mark!
Nice job. I liked the way you solved the challenges along the way. I imagine the toughest challenge was mating the outside ring to the table.
That was definitely a tough one, and I rarely put pocket screws in anything, but they worked like a charm here. Thanks for watching, Steven!
There are times when I fall into thinking, eh he just does this for UA-cam. This is a project that reminds you immediately that you are a furniture builder and designer first. Amazing table man.
Hey, there are times where I think the same thing. It is always nice to get to do stuff like this, so thanks for recognizing that! Appreciate it!
Great job ,looks fantastic.
Reminds me of a dining table we had when i was a kid.... the center portion was tucked underneath. When unfolded, you can place two extra seats.
Love the build.
Stay safe.
Thanks! You too!
Great build
Love it
Keep safe
Thanks Richard! You too!
This table is great inspiration! Love the elegance.
Beautiful! Great Job!
You guys do great work but you are also very funny and that's what we need right now. Thanks!
Happy to hear that, Patrick! Thanks for watching!
Plural of thickness is thicknesses, Shaun. Cheers from quarantined Poland. ;)
MikeLtm32 it can also just be thickness.
Me? I dig the subtle humor... ))
Or is it? (it's a running joke for the channel regulars)
Haha, I can't help myself. It is the best worst joke we do.
Great job on this one. Table looks beautiful. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Seth!
Beautiful table! Well done
Beautiful work Shaun like always
Wow! Fabulous table. I was scared about the turning, but you did it! Great project! Love it! Best ad read ever. 🔽
I won't lie, I was a little scared turning that thing, also! But glad I was able to make it happen. Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!
Amazing work! I love the result.
Thanks, man! Appreciate it.
Very well done guys!! You really get a scale for how large it is once Shaun lays on it. Super cool design. Hoping all is well, Dirty Jersey out!!
Wow, Found you guys last night. Awesome designs, buildAnd your shop is terrific. Well done guys I’m very impressed.
Probably the best build I’ve seen on UA-cam. Awesome work!!
Really appreciate it! Thanks for watching!
Beautiful table, WOW !.
Love this beautiful piece of art❗ 😍👌

Really appreciate it! Thanks Amy!
Great looking table! Love seeing you guys step out of your comfort zone!
Thanks Nate!
Beautiful table
Thank you!
Beautiful table!! Congratulations!!!!
Thank you!
Brilliant, as usual
You guys are exceptionally talented ‘artists’!! Phenomenal. Thankyou for producing such fabulous videos and craftsmanship.
I’m making a similar table but concerned the equaliser extending rails will be visible without an apron around the underside of the table top and wondering if you had a rule of thumb / ratio of table base width to table top to ensure it doesn’t tip (particularly when extended).
Thanks again and BRAVO 👏
Awesome build. Super nice for a restaurant. Amazing looking table with a big turning. Keep it up
Thanks Devin!
Wow. That is all I can say. That was wonderful.
Thank you! Really appreciate it!
Gorgeous....nicely done
Thank you!
Looks so clean! Nicely done man
Thanks, man! Really appreciate it!
Dude, you do amazing work!! You make it look so easy!!

Beautiful table, Shaun
Thanks Nate!
Great video Shaun! What a gorgeous table!
Thanks Tim!
Beautiful design! I was worried about rotating such a heavy piece but it turned great. And I love that you guys finally got married! Thanks for sharing your work.
Yeah, it was slow going, but I got it done. Thanks Joel!
Not my favorite looking table but really well done. Thanks for sharing.
WOW! Amazing!
Thank you!
6:43 Pinocchio? Is that you? Man, that table is breathtaking! Seriously, has to be one of my favorite pieces you've made.
Haha! Chris does have a bit of a Pinocchio look there. Thanks Bruce, I am stoked with how it came out!
Wow, gorgeous work! The figure on the leaf was a nice reveal.
Thanks Dennis!
Turned out amazing.
Thanks!
Damn son. You're better than I thought ! (only been watching a couple months)
Wow beautiful build!
Thank you!
Awesome work, props for corded Porter Cable circular saw!
Thanks, man! I love that little saw.
Another awesome build. Was the veneer press very expensive? Thanks guys!
Stunning!!! 🤩
Thank you!
Awesome work Shaun! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
Thanks Fred! 🙌👍
Nicely done 👍
Thanks!

Very nice Shaun, a great commission to get! Enjoyed the video as always...
Thanks Mike!
Thank guys. Was giggling within the first minute 😂😂.
Future Shaun..... loving the look. Now we have a record of when that fashion trend first started 🤣🤣🤣.
Stay safe both of you & thank you for keeping us all entertained💙💙 Love from #UK
A Flock Of Seagulls tribute band. 😂
The lead singer of the actual band is now bald.
Haha! We definitely were talking about how I had a heavy Flock Of Seagulls look. The look is coming back soon, I swear! Thanks for watching!
9:10 Can i get one of these beautiful door stoppers you are building there? But why did you make such a long video for some door stoppers?
Sometimes you go into it looking to make some door stoppers, and end up with a dining table. You never know with woodworking!
Thanks Shaun (and Chris)! Take care and stay safe!
Thank you! And same to you!
This is an awesome team!
Thanks :)
Simply beautiful! Looks like that base would be crazy heavy and stable. The grain match you have on the top of the table is on another level. There is no doubt that a lot of work went into your creation! Outstanding craftsmanship as always. You always set a pretty high bar for me to shoot for, well try :^)
Really appreciate it! This was a fun challenge, and it was fun to do a lot of things I don't often incorporate into my designs. Glad you enjoyed it!
Beautiful work again. I love that you and Chris team up like this. Great trick using a walnut inlay to hide the joints. What type of finish did you use on the table?
Thanks Eric! Really appreciate it. I used Maker Brand Simple Finish oil/wax combo for this one.
@@shaunb66 thanks. I need to move that to the top of my shopping list.
That table bangs 😍
Thanks James!
the base reveal at 5:17! wow
Very nice Shaun
Thanks Tom!
That gave me an idea for end tables. I will put a round middle shelf in the middle of the pedestal.
Very nice!
Art piece!!!
Thank you!
Nice work!! Looks like a heavy beast of a table!! Nice job on the turning as well! Wish I could see it in person. And to be on Four Eyes you need to wear specs!!
Haha, I am trying to get more in line with the brand and wear my glasses more often. Thanks for watching!
Beautiful table guys, really ambitious!
Thanks Jolien! It was a challenging, but fun build!
Very nice. In the beginning I was thinking "I'd never be able to get all those angles to match up to 360°" but then I realized as you went on that since you're doing 2 halves it really only needs to be close and then you can just cut each half straight so they meet up perfectly.
Yep, certainly makes it a bit easier than doing a whole 360!
I love how y’all are like, we don’t trust no miter gauge, plywood jigs only!
this channel is PREMIUM content
"to do this, I used a combination of glue, pocket screws, and Chris" killed me
Shaun, that was a fantastic sliding pedestal table build. I have no superlatives equal to the skill you displayed on this piece of furniture.
If this table is for Bell's on Bell St., Los Alamos, I have eaten there several times. I was a travel Nurse that spend a few months in area. Bell's, was a former bank, has both a great ambience and "California" French-inspired bistro. I heard they received a ⭐One MICHELIN Star: For High quality cooking/ Bravo!
How does this video only have 130k views?? Another quality vid by you boiissss
You just expanded my mind
Haha, awesome!
Lovely table!
One question. When you added the edge banding to the centre of the two semi circles, did that mean the table was not exactly circular, even when not extended?
All good to see you expanding your skill base, Shaun. Looks like this table wasn’t to much of a stretch. All puns aside, nice work!
Thanks, man! I'm going to start outsourcing my voiceovers to you.
Fantastic build! Would it be possible to create some sort of butterfly fold-away leaf for the middle section with the rockler slides installed?
Un Bee Leave Ah Bull 😍
That base blank had me shook 👌🏼
Haha, thanks Joseph! It had me shook for a little while there, too.
Step in to veneering and inlay on a roundus with a ton to turn and of course expanding the skills with great ease and accurate geometry
Beautiful table, Shaun. I'm glad you didn't glue both end of the dominoes in place (lol). The bleeps would have been flying then.
Haha! That would have been bad, and I could totally see myself doing that.
Beautiful work!! Way to expand your skills and kill it
Thanks Brad! Really appreciate it!
Wow beautiful table. Hilarious commercial. Thanks Keeps! : ) Great video too. Mahalo for sharing!
Thanks for watching! We had fun shooting the ad spot for this one.
