The Who are probably grateful that Pearl Jam chose to cover a song of theirs. This is a way for Pearl Jam to show they appreciated The Who's work and that they looked up to them as artists. To all haters, grow a couple. Pearl Jam did this song justice and is by far one of the greatest bands that ever played music.
Eddie vedder is the greatest rock star of all time. The way he projects his barratone voice with an organic release of emotion is unparalleled. The doors asked him to induct them into the hall of fame and perform with them on that night. John densmore said they would not perform without him. he has earned the respect , love and graced the stage with The who, bruce springsteen, stevie nicks, glen hansard, tom petty, neil young, coldplay, chris cornell, the rolling stones, R.E.M to name just a few and there are many more and in these moments he delivers earth shattering performances. He covered u2s elevation and One at their kennedy center honors ceremony and left the band speachless. he was asked to induct the Ramones, R.E.M. , neil young and the doors as mentioned earlier into the hall of fame. He has done all of this while climbing and jumping off scaffolds singing porch and gave the greatest unplugged perfomance to boot. If you doubt any of this you are just hating on reality. look it all up on yoitube its right here✌ children
WELL SAID MY DEAR!! 100% TRUE, THERE STILL GOING TO BE HATERS OUT THERE. AND YES IT REALLY SAD THERE'S EDDIE VEDDER AND PEARL JAM HATERS. I AM NOT ONE OF THEM!! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE PEARL JAM AND I ABSOLUTELY LOVE EDDIE VEDDER!! 😊🩷🤘✌️
I was in college just before that era. I remember going to see three bands play in the Worcester Centrum (Massachusetts): The Chili Peppers headlining, opened by Smashing Pumpkins, who were in-turn opened by the almost unknown Pearl Jam. I absolutely loved the 'Peppers back then, knew a little 'Pumpkins, but had only heard PJ's single on the radio. I was totally shocked when that first opening band was the best of the three; they played stuff I didn't know, and they got the whole audience jumping. 'The 'Pumpkins were a wall o' noise, and they sucked, while the 'Peppers were good, but not THAT good. Kinda sloppy, actually. Anyhoo, I'll never forget that show. Opening bands at stadiums typically suck, because the sound quality is bad, and they're usually more about energy than good music. Pearl Jam were about both, and long before they became uber-successful, they DESERVED the fame they would soon find.
que mal que cuando veo estos videos me dan ganas de volver a esa epoca y vivir esos momentos de pearl jam.. cosa que no pasa cuando veo los videos del pearl jam actual..
Played this at the '92 Lollapalooza in NOLA. Eddie climbed up a 100 feet in the air. I met Phil Anselmo in the crowd and helped him hand out Eye Hate God flyers. Was a 20 yo preppy kid. Things changed after that.
@@mickfunny4185 referring to myself. But both I think. Nothing negative. Just getting older. Really miss those youthful times when everything was passionately new and exciting. That moment was the last kinda innocent time. Soon after depression and dependance on substances. I'm still that 20 yo sometimes. It was beautiful.
if you haven't seen this entire show you really should, having been a fan for almost 20 years i think this is probably my favorite full show of all time- they had been opening all summer and this was their only full show and they fucking let loose! this was the last song and they were obviously pretty drunk at this point, check out the rest of the show though and you'll see how this song caps it off nicely!
I love when Eddie talks about how much he loves the who and how as a teen he stole a walkman with a recorder just to get a bootleg of the concert he was attending. when he speaks of them it's like how I speak of pearl jam :')
as good as that 1993 cover was, they do an even better cover of that same song NOW. Pearl Jam is like a fine wine - they've gotten better and better of the years. And they are a greater band than ever today.
Damn PJ, how much shit can you guys do?? Come out with 20 years of amazing original music, and then have such an amazing repitoire of covers too? Baba O'Riley, Rain, Hide Your Love Away, Rockin' In the Free World, Growin' Up, Hard Sun... That's why they're the best band, ever.
Not many bands do a good job of covering some of the Who classics in my opinion...however this civer by PJ is a balls to the walls great cover. No timidity here just raw power and emotion that is one of the best in my book. Now i know why i like Pearl Jam!
The sound quality is horrible! Feedback everywhere! I’d fucking kill for it! This is rocking roll! Soon where gonna go into concerts with ear buds and watch a performance with a fucking backing track. Not for me! This is energy man this is what you play for!
dude stay on topic, we're talking about music here, not politics or racism, it's a fact that rock and roll music was born in the united states in the 1950's with artists like elvis, chuck berry, eddie cochran, little richard and many others, without these artists the british invasion wouldn't even have existed, john lennon himself has said that nothing really affected him until he heard elvis
I'm sure Eddie would take as high praise any fan of The Who appreciating Pearl Jam's music. Those two bands have many things in common, chief among them being an understanding and empathy for teenage angst. As a youngster I felt Quadrophenia spoke directly to me in much the same way Pearl Jam's music did (does). Rock on dude!
They were famous for a few reasons: 1. The loudest 2. The best "live" band ever 3. Breaking lots of expensive stuff on stage. 4. Having the guts to play loud, crazy stuff in a day when it wasn't cool yet. 5. Rock opera music that went against the modern day music 6. Being the first punk band before punk was punk. 7. Just being damn good!
...and Rodger was probably the best "belt them out from the gut and sing from the soul" vocalists you could evr want to hear. Show some respect Analintruder!
FFS does anyone do checks before posting stupid comments??? PJ did this cover because The Who are one of Eddie Vedders favourite bands, yes the video is poor and the audio but to be there when they did it? Awesome. Pete must not have been that upset as he invited Eddie to sing I'm one at the cancer trust gig. Please people appreciate music and stop hating
this is a very old version of pearl jam covering this song, they've tightened it up a lot since this performance... you should look @ a more recent performance before you judge their cover of it.
Ripping!!! It's not the who...but this is some good energy going towards a great song...It's raw in 1993 for Pearl Jam and not as polished as the late 2008 stuff...I think the who would rally and say cool!

puf que buena rola, anímese a escuchar esta canción originalmente de The Who en cover por esta banda noventera. Por cierto @Indra: "sabes que estás ruco cuando te acuerdas de The Who y de Pearl Jam
As a massive Who fan I like it and all of Vedder's Townshend covers.Hey if Vedder thinks Pete Townshend is the greatest thing that ever happened to rock music and it's obvious that he thinks that way then he's ok in my book.
roger daltrey has said that he wouldn't even have considered rock and roll music as a career had he not watched elvis on tv as a child, before watching elvis, daltrey was a good boy, after watching elvis on tv, he transformed into a rebel, wanted to do something which all the adults hated back then which was rock and roll music, these are not my opinions, roger daltrey himself has said this, in fact, the who song real good looking boy is a tribute to elvis
Looked to me like these guys were enjoying this. It's no secret that Pearl Jam loved The Who. I doubt they were trying to do anything but cover a great song..
@Jackstanford7 if you were around when Pete and the boys made this song, and seen The Who live back then, you would know they had GREAT energy for their time....both bands were raw, groundbreaking, amazing musicians....but to say The Who had less energy??? You sir are wrong! No disrespect, I'm not being an ass, but go check some old Who live clips on UA-cam....you might be surprised! VERY ENERGETIC! I'm sure Eddie would tell you the same! Enjoy friend and CHEERS!
lol- I read these comments and then I think to myself- Are you in a band and have you covered this song?? Funny how people are so quick to voice opinion.... Great Job Pearl Jam and Eddie!!!!
has nothing to do with the vid, just that the replying system is fucked and my comment was placed in the wrong spot, i was actually talking to Flavell150, The KKK were considered vigilantes though they were almost alternate law enforcement
Ey I guess I'm just cut from a different cloth. For the music that interests me, I'd be more inclined to see Radiohead as 'important'. I don't tend to think of Pearl Jam as such because they're responsible for trends in music that I don't like at all. But to each their own - as I said, they love The Who so obviously I'd have something to agree with them on... !

Pearl Jam puts so much energy and emotion into every damn thing they do! That's why I love these guys and always will.
I would kill to have been able to see Pearl Jam in this era.
I was in college just before that era. I remember going to see three bands play in the Worcester Centrum (Massachusetts): The Chili Peppers headlining, opened by Smashing Pumpkins, who were in-turn opened by the almost unknown Pearl Jam.

Zach Blackwell I saw them in Edmonton on this tour. They were great. I was 25 and the oldest guy there. The place was Polluted with 14 year olds.
Pearl Jam are one of the greatest underrated bands of all time.
i love this song
Why would people dislike this, it's a bunch of amazing musicians having fun, there's more energy in Pearl Jam than there is in the who.
I would kill to be able to sing “yeah” as good as Eddie can lmao
Are you referring to 2:05? I also wish I had those powers haha.
eddie vedder's voice is so unmistakeable decades of good music
que mal que cuando veo estos videos me dan ganas de volver a esa epoca y vivir esos momentos de pearl jam.. cosa que no pasa cuando veo los videos del pearl jam actual..
Pearl Jam always take this cover to the greatest heights! Awesome.
Played this at the '92 Lollapalooza in NOLA. Eddie climbed up a 100 feet in the air. I met Phil Anselmo in the crowd and helped him hand out Eye Hate God flyers. Was a 20 yo preppy kid. Things changed after that.
Lonnie Manuel what changed, Pearl Jam or you?

this is back when Pearl Jam was the one of the beast bands in the world!
i love both classic rock and grunge so this cover is perfect for me :D
as good as that 1993 cover was, they do an even better cover of that same song NOW. Pearl Jam is like a fine wine - they've gotten better and better of the years. And they are a greater band than ever today.
best cover ever
It was epic.
rock and roll cannot be replaced
Saw them playing this song in Edmonton a couple of weeks later. Great times.

Incredible performance...
4:39 - Crazy Eddie is awesome Eddie.
@McClintock1313 ---- I just turned 50 and the Who are one of my favorite bands. I can also appreciate the energy that this band has.

This is great. Makes me wish I were 16 again and there going crazy.

There is no bigger Who fan in the world than me. I would say my second favorite band is Pearl Jam. They grew up on the Who just like me.

3. Breaking lots of expensive stuff on stage.

5. Rock opera music that went against the modern day music
