This is a hard one. First, don't buy anything that you can't own and control, like a house in a country where you can't own property. Second, Asian ideas of fealty to parents are absolute. Even Hispanics would rather go to the poor house together than see their parents put out in any way. It's only we cold Westerners who are willing to lock our parents away in sterile care facilities to die after they spent years of their lives taking care of us. I don't think her actions show total disrespect to Luke, I think it shows her discounting "farang" ideas and doing the right thing by Thai culture. Thais always choose their culture over the culture of outsiders because that seems to them like the only intelligent thing they can do. Why would they throw their whole culture away, INSIDE their own country, involving their own families, who are also INSIDE their own country, just because some foreign guy has some weird ideas? Westerners (and I'm one too) naively tend to believe everyone wants to think like us when they might actually be happy already with their own values system. I don't know if Luke is fluent and literate in Thai, but I bet if he were he would have seen this possibility a long time ago and bought a condo for himself in Bangkok instead. At least he could control that . At this point, I'd say just mop up the piss and don't complain against the parents if you want to keep the wife. Move back to Bangkok alone if you don't want to live with her anymore.
Another thing to consider is that if the Thai partner has a daughter the partner and the daughter will move into the house and he will be king of the castle 😂.

I think the big issue here is "our values" do NOT apply here and do not think they ever will.
