I know everyone says that it’s a bad idea for an iPad to have macOS, but I think The iPad pros need some kind of a more professional OS with more professional apps
What would be some professional apps you'd like to see?
I'd like Ableton Live Studio and LibreOffice.
@@gr-os4gd I’m using Davinci resolve a lot but it really needs an update, also it would be cool to see a lot of adobe apps not in some kind of a “mobile view”

That is like saying I think the MacBook Pros need a more pro OS than the MacBook Air.
Also there’s already tons of professional apps on the iPad

I have the 12.9 M1 iPad Pro & LOVE IT!!! But I definitely plan on grabbing this year’s upgrade especially if they up the size to 14” s!! 😊

This and paltry RAM. The iPad 10 & mini only have 4GB RAM, they should have 6-8GB to at least match iPhones. I bet the iPhone 16 will have an A17 non-pro variant with only 6GB RAM.

If Apple comes out with an iPad mini pro and keeps pushing forward with the external monitor experience it would be absolutely amazing, I’d buy one in a heartbeat. Great video Tom!

You should try the Elago iPad stand. It feels very Apple-like. The stand is very reminiscent of the iMac/Studio Display stand

I hope you are right and we get a 12.9" or larger Air. I just need the larger screen. I don't want to have to pay for the fancy features of the pro that I don't much care about. My dream update would be a 14" Air, or even a 16" Air.
Landscape camera for the pro and maybe the air too, would be awesome
What I really want is a second TB/USB-C port. 👍
I should specify that I mean a full-performance one on the iPad Pro itself. Use cases: fast external SSD in one and fast CFexpress card reader in the other. Or fast external SSD in one and USB-C/TB monitor in the other.
I really hope they can avoid the problem of “burn in” with the new oled screens, especially if they use standby displays! Otherwise I’d love to upgrade the new 13” from my old 11” iPad Pro! Hopefully not too much more expensive as to make them unaffordable!😱 but excited nonetheless!

I'm waiting for an update to the iPad mini, but I think a keyboard cover is just too small a keyboard. Having said that, I touch-type so I'm a bit biased ...
I’m super curious about new iPads but to be honest I have Air 4th gen and it can do everything I need. I make music on it, edit videos, draw and animate in procreate, battery life is Allright for me. I play games on it and work. I use it as exchange for laptop. Sure it would be nice to have stage manager but that’s it for me. It is already powerful and I don’t even know what can you do on m3 that it’s not possible on Air 4th gen?
If I had an older Mini I would jump on a Mini 7, but I think it's going to be hard for me to justify (and I'm pretty good at it) moving up from my Mini 6.
I’ve been looking at getting a refurbished mini 6 for work. Is the jelly scrolling effect an issue for you or even noticeable with normal day to day use?

Great video, LOVE the idea of an official Apple gaming controller. That would be so much more seamless than connecting my PlayStation Controllers all the time. Especially my PS4 controller is creating issues all the time when trying to connect to my Mac Mini etc.

I’m using an old Pro 10.5 that I got on launch day, I’m waiting for an updated mini. Was ready to upgrade last year but I just can’t justify buying a 3yo mini right now :/

This will be an interesting year for iPads but the little snip at the end of this video sums up my biggest concern lmao. The OLED iPad Pro is probably going to be out of my price range now. The fact that a base version might cost a LOT more than a base MacBook Air is just insane. I have a 2021 Pro and love it so I'll probably hang on to it as long as I can. If they added 120 hz displays to the iPad Air I think that would be a no-brainer for me. But I suspect this is one of the reasons why they won't add it. It would just make that cheaper model far more enticing for a lot of people.
My wish is an iPad mini Pro
All I want is an iPad mini with a 90Hz screen and the A17 Pro chip. That would be awesome!

The only iPad I have any interest in is an updated iPad Mini, even if it's just a processor spec bump. I must confess, I have never been affected by the jelly scrolling, primarily because I use the 6th gen in landscape. The 5th gen also suffered jelly scrolling, but that was in landscape. I believe Apple used a landscape biased panel for the 6th gen Vs the portrait panel of the 5th gen Mini. I currently have a M1 12.9-inch iPad Pro with 2TB storage and magic keyboard and is my worst IT purchase of all time. It is fantastic hardware crippled by iPoor OS to be an oversized iPhone in a walled garden of mostly mediocre smart phone style apps. The money I had originally planned to use for an iPad Pro upgrade will now be used to purchase a real tablet computer, e.g. something like Microsoft Surface Pro 10 5G with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processor. These days I am using Windows 11, especially Windows 11 arm, for most of my workflows over my M2 MacBook Pro and Mac OS. iPad OS is great for the iPad Mini, OK for the iPad Air, but lays waste to 12.9-inch or greater iPad Pro. I don't want to have to own both an iPad Pro with a touch screen, stylus and mickey mouse OS, and a MacBook Pro with desktop class OS and antiquated user interface (i.e. no touch screen or stylus) to plug the gaps in Apple's OS offerings. I want a single tablet computer that does it all, and that eliminates Apple. Just think ... in a couple of decades you may not even need Vision Pro ... it will all be neural implants and people will be wondering why previous generations bashed around on keyboards, whose layout was originally designed to prevent you from jamming together the print heads of a typewriter or fumbled with mice!

I agree that the smaller Ipad Pro screen should gets a bit more love. I have an iPad pro 2020 and why I still love it... The screen is not that great. Especially when you compare with the 12inch models. I would also love if iPad Pro got more colour variations like the latest iPad models got. My daughter has the latest iPad and it looks sooo good! I wish iPad Air would get 120hz. Thats the only reason I have a pro over air since I draw a bunch. And yes, ipad need mag safe. iPad Mini Pro would be a dream. I agree! I don't care so much for an Apple Controller but all games needs to have support for both Dual Sense and Xbox controller. It's so confusing playing some games with the Xbox-kontroller layout on the gui when you are using a Playstation controller.

I'd like to think M3 iPads would be cool but if I put an M1/M2 iPad up against an older one, aside from the cosmetic outside, you'd be hard pressed to tell which one is which.... if they only let you sideload stuff and/or use like a Mac, I'd be more on board.

UA-camrs have been predicting iPads to become really awesome for years now, especially since the M1. Haven't really seen that and sales have only been dropping.
Apple just moves way too slowly with the iPad. My iPad Air 4's 60hz LCD-panel looks dogs**t if I compare it to my Tab S9, same price range. Even the 11" Pro still uses LCD.

its a huge mistake if they differentiate the 12.9 and 11 inch iPads. theres no excuse in 2024 for apple to do this considering what they charge
ESR makes better keyboard/trackpad cases for iPads than Apple makes. This newest version of their Magnetic Rebound Keyboard Case for the 12.9” iPad Pro (currently only the white version) that I got this week is the best iPad keyboard case I’ve ever tried.

For many mainstream users 64GB is perfectly suitable particularly if they’re upgrading from older 16 or 32GB iPads and hadn’t filled those. And there are a lot of people out there like that.
I also upgraded from my older 10.5 Pro with 64GB and I never used more than half of it. In Nov. 2022 I went to an iPad Air 5 with 64GB and I’m perfectly good with it. Lots of storage I’ll never use. I also have an iPhone 14 base with 128GB most of which I’ll never need. It helps not to be a digital horder.

The Magic Keyboard is too heavy, it might as well be a diving brick to pack with the new Vision Pro Goggles and then all you need is a wetsuit for the complete look.
iPad Pro is already extremely capable Hardware specs but you will be paying for hardware you don't use or rarely need even with the M1 Chip - it's that good, so M3 and OLED is just going to mean more expensive hardware you can't really get full use out of. This is because iPadOS hobbles the device's capabilities. The only solution is more MacOS options to expand what users can do with their iPads.
The 2024 big update necessary is not hardware but software: iPadOS18. Will Apple deliver or will they undercut their own customers?
