What are the connecions like on the drone itself? Can I retrofit a 6000mA/h 4S 15.0v battery (secure it in the slot with tape) for a longer flight time?
Apologies if i missed this in the video but if i wasnt to use battery for even longer periods of time, say a month, or 6 months etc... what would be the best % to keep the battery at for much longer times? Thanks for such an excellent guide!
I followed your directions put my batteries in my phantom three set the discharge time to two days after 2 1/2 days the battery stayed full just like I left them am I missing something
Very good video. I just had a question about the voltage readings. This is for the DJI Phantom 3, Standard, battery. On a DJI forum, someone states the following: Do not allow any of the battery cells to drop below 3.3V. Consider landing your Phantom when (or before) the first battery cell reaches 3.4V. Your battery will shut off mid-flight if the voltage drops below 3.0V.I was just curious if you agree with this or find this to be true. Another poster, on that same forum, states you can damage the battery at 3.6 or 3.7.So again, I am just trying to make sure the info is correct.Thank you.
Really great informative video! There are some very misleading vids on UA-cam at the moment about these batteries. This answered all my questions perfectly! thanks.

Hello mad rc, a question that hasn't been answered I wondering do you know how many flights can one expect from new p3 battery thanks for your intel...
Good day I consult you in the last flight of phantom 3st me frame critical battery was at 50% load began to descend. then I turned it off and turned it on again and it went well. which it can be. The battery has 19 loads and 4 or 5 years. Do you have a solution? Thank you
Where can i find the male connector for this batter(or make one)? I want to use this for my DJI f450 and maybe 1/5 baja-e, rather than spending $$ for batteries for each rc.
And another question. If for instance you fly today and end up with a battery with just 25% and you do not plan to fly until next week I understand from your video you would charge it up to 50% more or less to keep it this way until the moment you recharge it fully before the next flight. How do you count the number of charges this way? Would you consider this 2 charges or just 1. I mean this related to the 20 charges cycle where you empty it and fully recharge it to keep it healthy. Thanks in advance
Furia40 I would only count full charges so from 25% to 50% then the 50% to 100% would be one full charge, really its classed as cycles from full to empty then back to full again, I charge till the 3rd LED just starts to flash then take it off charge for the 50% mark :)
Please tell me if the 57W charger is better for battery life than 100W charger and if so, how many cycles can I get from it in comparison to the faster charger?
I have an issue. In the Aircraft status on the P3pro, it states that the battery is at -58 degrees, thus not allowing me to use it. its never been that cold in the uk, infact its 10 degress here now and 22 degress in the house. Still the battery will not reset. Help please
Great video. You mention to discharge the battery to 80% or 45% depending on when you will use it again. How exactly are you discharging the P3 batteries? Thanks!
KeithKman Couple of choices, either try and fly it down if possible, other option it leave it in the P3 and turn it on and wait(this listed in the manual as an option but not my preferred) option 3 is try the flight simulator
Thanks for the info! I just bought my first drone. A phantom 3 pro. With 2 batteries. Is it best to only use one battery for now until spring, or should I be using them both. One is still "new" and my thinking is I don't need 2 in the winter
i suggest that you can use both of the two batteries, in this way, your battery will be in a good condition, if you did't use the battery for a long time, it will shorten the life of the battery!
Great Video! When you set the "time to discharge" to 2 days, does this mean that the battery will discharge after 2 days on its own? (ie: When the battery is in the Phantom 3 AND everything is powered off?)
William James yes that correct, it will self discharge after the set period, the only proviso to this is if at anytime in that 2 days you press the battery meter or turn the battery on the countdown resets, also id advised not storing the pack in the P3, leave it out when not in use. you never know with Lipo battery what could happen.
Mad RC Thank you. Just to clarify, you mentioned not to leave the Lipo in the P3. If I leave it out, will the battery still know what the time to discharge is set to? (as there is no physical connection between the battery and the P3). I'm assuming the battery must have some sort of chip or something that stores this kind of information.
William James Yes the discharge intelligent circuit is in the battery so it will discharge its self out of the P3. Just member they do give off a little heat when discharging to always store your battery in a well ventilated place.
good video, these are exactly the videos I'm looking for as I'm looking at buying the phantom 3 very soon, videos on how to setup, how to calibrate compass, how to do the gps lock, how to sync transmitter with quad, how to use the djigo app etc.also I'm a little confused as to the software update process as I have seem vidoes where it has been done manually by downloading the file from dji then putting it on sdcard etc,but also seen some comments saying the firmware for quad and transmitter are updated automatically through the djigo app ? what you think ? thanks
+Max edouard Collinet About 20 mins. Well it depends, if you're travelling with it or you'd like to carry it with you whenever you go, I'd suggest you the Phantom since it's very portable. The Inspire also costs much more, I'd buy it just if I were a professional videomaker who needs higher quality footage. Hope this helps. Have a nice day.
one common question. can i use the battery upto 0% while i fly? As we are to maintain 20% threshold for battery safety, I want to know when it says 0% in the DJIGO app is it really 0% battery capacity, or DJI have set actual 20% to appear 0% in the DJIGO app for the safety user ease? when i use to 35% normally i get around 15min flight time but many say we get 20-22min i wonder if they are flying all the battery they got?
Question... on my second flight with my Phantom 3 standard, I got a firmware update, I should have waited but I did it. Then I got a battery update and a battery damage warning not long after. Everything updated but the one battery still had damage warning, should I just get rid of it? Or is it savable?
Ulfhedinn hi it depends on what the cells are showing, is there a deviation across any of the cells and if so by how much ? Dji do appear to have added more checks into the battery firmware for this
I'm new to this whole RC thing completely. I have a total of 3 flights on my new Phantom 3 Advanced so I'm trying to learn as much as I can. I appreciate the knowledge that you're providing. I have a couple questions though. You mention that it's good to take the aircraft battery down to 65% if it's going to be stored for a week or more. What if my battery is currently at 28% ? Can I just store it as is ? Also in regards to discharging the controller battery down to 80% for storage .... if I leave it on to discharge, it sounds an intermittant beep alarm after a given amount of time and then turns itself off, so how can I discharge it by itself. The aircraft is currently at 28% and the controller is at 86%
Im getting the 3 standard. My question is the automatic discharging do you have to plug it in drone turn it on, then after 3 days it starts to discharge or do you leave it unplugged. Also is the app voltage readings accurate bc I was assuming that the readings are conservative so while flying you dont drain to low . In other words is 50 percent reading on app actually 50 percent or more like 60 as true?? thx in advance
No the self discharge is in the battery so once you set the time to discharge = 1-10 days of it's left over 70% capacity it will discharge by its self to below 65%, this process starts on the first day after the time you have set and takes about 3 days from 100%. The voltages are very accurate and 50% is about 50% capacity.
I've had my drone now since November and no matter what I put my discharge on it wont start to discharge! Its 3 weeks since i put them on 1 day and they're still not started discharging, any idea what the problem could be? Thanks
thanks for the battery info. Im smarter!! quick question. I flew my phantom 3 PRO today and for some reason there were static lines on bottom of screen sporadically. I looked at the micro card and it didnt show up there so much but on the live shot there was static? I cant remember if I extended my antenna out fully so that could have been it and i was at least 100 feet from power lines. Any thoughts? I also noticed my battery went down to 17% then landed on its own? is that about right. Im still on beginner mode :)
***** Were they completely straight and parallel? I had this happen in the sky and it was because I had the overexposure warning on. Maybe an underexposure warning?
At last someone who knows what there talking about. But I have a question I have 2 x Turnigy 3 cell 11.1v 5000mAh battery's I THINK i may have left them fully charged from last October should I throw them away? I have discharged them down to storage level now but not sure weather to use them again. There seems to be no swelling of cells and the cells all measure same voltage any advice would be great.. I have a F550 Hex that I have used just a handful times but may sell and get a P3 Professional what are your thoughts? thanks..
keithpaw personally i would not fly them if you did but it depends what your putting them on, if its an expensive bird on FPV then i would not but if its a crash mule around the fields then what you got to loose apart from a few props. I would cycle the packs a few times then see how they hold up, see if your charger has a cycle option to fully discharge then charge the packs, fly low and close in for a few cycles and see how they perform, if ok they are likely fine. hope it helps
I tried to exercise my batteries, dropped them in my pocket and went for a jog, no good i was knackered, or did you mean exorcise.. ive got no holy water..:) All the best for Xmas an the new year Mr Madrc
just crashed my Phantom 3 pro! Batteries fully charged on controller, drone and phone. Calibrated it. Waited for drone to warm up. Took off. got to 30 ft and the motors cut out. Gimbal and camera ruined. 4 constant green lights on battery now. when i press the power button on the battery it just flashes and stay on 4 green lights constant. I had the batteries in my house, nice and warm. I thought it may be that I had not warmed up my batteries? I didn't get any warning on my dpi go app. Any suggestions what it could be?? Cheers
Just curious, I have a BRAND new battery (Times Charged 3)and my "Total Capacity" is 4369 instead of your 4518. Why would my brand new battery have a lesser charge than yours? Also, sorry not, why does my voltage say 17.1, when yours says 15.0? Also to be clear, I should keep my battery at all times, even if I'm flying tomorrow at about 80% and top it off before I leave for best performance. I plan on flying daily. At $150 a pop, I would hope this battery lasts for a little while and I am about to go spend a ton more on batteries and chargers. Also, what do you think about the multi chargers that you can get on Amazon. What do you recommend? Thanks for the great advice and tutorials!!!! You rock.
People seem to be getting 6-10 flights from it down to 30%. I'd not want to fly with less than 30%, every 10 - 20 charges take it down to 8% the. Fully recharge to keep the battery tip top :)
Thanks. I was looking for something just like this to explain to me the life expectancy of these batteries. Its kind of a bummer they don't last longer with current technology. Thanks again
+jonnham Banggood sell a half decent replacement for $97.99. Read the comments at the bottom of the product page, from people that have bought them: www.banggood.com/4500mAh-15_2V-4S-Intelligent-Flight-Battery-For-DJI-Phantom-3-Phantom-3-Standard-p-1027251.html?p=JQ26191551677201504Z
I just got off the phone with DJI and they said setting the Number of days on the app has nothing to do with the actual draining of the batteries. They said The only way to drain those batteries is to fly it or leave it running. They also said if you leave a full charge battery sit they do not have a 10 day function where the battery will start draining. They said if you let a full charge battery sit it will go down but it might take four months to drain down to 20 to 30% are you making all this stuff up or are they giving the UK smarter batteries I don't think so
+brokosok There were apparently older versions of the DJI Phantom 3 smart battery and a newer version. The latter newer versions have a self-discharge facility with a load inside which can be used to dissipate the energy in the cell. So what you're saying IS true but only if you have the older version of the Phantom 3 Smart battery. I'm personally using one of the little light bulb based smart dischargers. It has a micro controller on it and it senses the voltage of the cells, it can turn the bulb off when the battery hits the storage potential or you can configure it to discharge deep to 8% for conditioning purposes. You can buy these on Amazon for around $20 USD, they're also easy to find on eBay.
Hello can I ask you a real question about ?DJI Phantom 4 Pro and. DJI Mavic PRO, I have owned a mavic pro drone for the last 7 months ,I've been looking at DJI Phantom 4 Pro Drone ,Just for personal reasons just posting stuff on UA-cam or face book I'm not looking to be a professional drone pilot///////// Would I see a big different if I buy a DJI Phantom 4 Pro I ONLY SHOOT IN 2K cause My I Pad Pro 12.9 can't handle 4k ,I'm not looking to buy a new labtop or computer just to edit in 4K

having horrible problems with Phantom 3 batteries. I have followed your advice and lately after flying for a few minutes I am getting warning that says Critical Low Voltage and lands when I don't want it to. Scary stuff. This has happened when battery level is 56% and 35%...makes no sense. Now I'm hesitant on flying it at all. This happened twice yesterday with 2 different batteries. I have 5. and I follow your discharge procedure. One thing is my controller even when charged is hard to turn off and on...it seems to not connect. I have to work at it 15 min or so and it finally turns off and on. I know how to turn battery off...press once then press again.....still its buggy. Not impressed anymore with DJI Phantom 3.
I have been watching this video before I charged my battery DJI Phantom 3 professional to avoid any future problems. but after 22 charges - battery life went down to 97% is it right or something wrong with batteries
BeatsPlanetMusic You should see the deep-cyles I use for remote telescope astrophotography. $300 for a decent one, and is the size and weight of a car battery. Same sort of maintenance issues too, in terms of full power cycles and recharging.

when you use the phantom to discharge the battery, then make sure to put the props on ,because without them, there's no cooling, and the battery does get very warm.
@@tygo9500 I know this post was a couple of years ago, but: I find the camera and gimbal gets hot when not flying, so perhaps idling with props on may be an option...
Thank you for staying focused on instructions. I'm 74 and it is very hard to find simply instructions. I'm a beekeeper & would like to make some vids on my bees. Been practicing every day but can not get it to go higher than 97' and max distance is about 300 feet regardless of the settings. Phantom 3 pro and I updated a week ago
+ColinRussianForce I have found out that you get what you pay for Colin. I just bought one on eBay from California...not China...so I thought it would be fine..just $89...but it was not DJI and my DJI app said so, and refused to fly...I am now looking for a refund !

+ColinRussianForce Ok I just did some reading and I think I know what is happening. The battery in my case has worked before, but today the DJI app rejected it. I just updated my app today, because my app said so (wouldn't fly until I did) so that is where the problem came from. The 3rd party sellers have to upgrade the firmware on the batteries for them to work on the new DJI software. Just my luck as I ordered 2 more batteries in Feb. which will have to be returned !
this battery is lumsing brand, so it is not the DJI brand! the original battery should be DJI brand! but, this one also a very good replacement battery, it works well with the newest dji go system, and there is no firmware updates issues!
+natserog It's actually better not to drain it to zero ever, just stay about 10% as suggested in the video. This LiPo batteries are some fragile stuff!
MY RC is not working anymore :( , i flew a few time now and now, from one day to the other its not turning on. its like dead. i push the on button --> no lights
Thx for info. I just bought a 3 standard. Have batt and controller charging now.
can you leave the battery in the aircraft while it does a self discharge? ie: after the pre-programmed 2 days have expired.

Great video. You mention to discharge the battery to 80% or 45% depending on when you will use it again.
How exactly are you discharging the P3 batteries? Thanks!
KeithKman Couple of choices, either try and fly it down if possible, other option it leave it in the P3 and turn it on and wait(this listed in the manual as an option but not my preferred)
option 3 is try the flight simulator
Sound like a fellow Taff. Good to hear a fellow taff, I'm based in Western Australia watching your vid reminds me of home :-) - Hiraeth
good video, these are exactly the videos I'm looking for as I'm looking at buying the phantom 3 very soon, videos on how to setup, how to calibrate compass, how to do the gps lock, how to sync transmitter with quad, how to use the djigo app etc.also I'm a little confused as to the software update process as I have seem vidoes where it has been done manually by downloading the file from dji then putting it on sdcard etc,but also seen some comments saying the firmware for quad and transmitter are updated automatically through the djigo app ? what you think ? thanks
How long are you flights?
Thanks!
Wreley good to know!
Good job?
How long does a battery last fully charged? i mean during a flight. And, do you suggest The inspire or the Phantom?
+Arjun Jois Fly it at zero and let us know.
Hi, does my galaxy s4 10" fit in the tx s holder?
how do you manually discharge it without flying?
Question... on my second flight with my Phantom 3 standard, I got a firmware update, I should have waited but I did it.
The voltages are very accurate and 50% is about 50% capacity.
so it doesnt have to be plugged in drone to self discharge
one last thing do you have to constantly reprogram self discharge or unless you change the days to activate it remembers
Let say I set it to discharge in 2 days but decide to fly it on day 3 or 4, can I cancel the discharge?
Very helpful video man
At last someone who knows what there talking about.
I would cycle the packs a few times then see how they hold up, see if your charger has a cycle option to fully discharge then charge the packs, fly low and close in for a few cycles and see how they perform, if ok they are likely fine.
hope it helps
very helpful thank you for your time and information.
very good info, thank you for sharing
I tried to exercise my batteries, dropped them in my pocket and went for a jog, no good i was knackered, or did you mean exorcise.. ive got no holy water..:)
All the best for Xmas an the new year Mr Madrc
just crashed my Phantom 3 pro! Cheers
Thank u very much for ur speedy response im subbed ur channel fella thank you
Great video I learnt a lot
Fully recharge to keep the battery tip top :)
how do you manually discharge the battery
either leave the drone on and arm the motors and let it spin with out the props or fly it around in close quarters until it gets between 50-30%
Bass Junkie is that OK to let it run without propellers to run the battery down. That's why I'm here checking actually
Can I leave the battery inside the drone for long periods of time ?
I have heard that leaving the battery in may stretch out the battery retention clips over time.
How long battery life does the controller have? how often will i need to charge it compared to the phantom battery? :)
cheers and thx for nice info :)
Thanks you I just didn't know that. Thank s
All the best thank you for letting me know about that. All the best. Paul
Is it okay to charge my rc at 50% for me to use it the next day?
Hi. I did 5 cycles on my battery (P3A) and it is showing total capacity = 4250 mAh. Is it normal? Many thanks
Wow excellent! :) Good job! :) Greetings from Ireland and well done on your video! :) I love flying my Q500 for some aerial footage! :) Thumbs up from me! :)
Great tips
My RC says N/A in every category where the battery is concerned. I left it for 2 years. Not sure what is going on with the battery.
That’s usually a connection issue with the little pins ,
Thanks a lot,. very informative vid..
yes *I got a Phantom 3 battery with a really nice discount of 47% here , i only paid US$89* www.banggood.com/search/phantom.html?p=J031143423240201512X
is not dji battery = big problem...
When is it time to recycle a battery? I have 6 of them, only 2 cells are good, and hold about 4000mAh.
having horrible problems with Phantom 3 batteries.
I have been watching this video before I charged my battery DJI Phantom 3 professional to avoid any future problems. but after 22 charges - battery life went down to 97% is it right or something wrong with batteries
thanks, that was helpful. here's to long battery life...
I am very confused, you just said to never go below 20% and now your telling me to bring it down to 8%,so what is the right thing to do?
Blue-Ace he said after every 20 times of charge, discharge to 8% to exercise the cell then fully charge to 100%
I just bought a phantom 3 and can't get the battery to charge. Any suggestions?
Was it new. Chances are these are old batteries now and probably dead, does any lights flash ?
@@MadRC it is new in the box, manufactured in 2015
It says battery update needed, so I'll try getting the update and see what happens
@@MadRC there is a flashing red light and a flashing white light along with a loud beeping noise
For the most expensive batteries Ive ever heard of, they sure are high maintenance.
BeatsPlanetMusic You should see the deep-cyles I use for remote telescope astrophotography. $300 for a decent one, and is the size and weight of a car battery. Same sort of maintenance issues too, in terms of full power cycles and recharging.
+BeatsPlanetMusic Banggood sell a cheaper alternative that is just as good :-)

when you use the phantom to discharge the battery, then make sure to put the props on ,because
without them, there's no cooling, and the battery does get very warm.
I do not agree. When you discharge the battery on the slow way, not much current flows from the battery to the quad so the battery won't get hot.
@@tygo9500 I know this post was a couple of years ago, but: I find the camera and gimbal gets hot when not flying, so perhaps idling with props on may be an option...
@@tyronewilliams1502 yeah okey, i leave them full, till they discharge istself
tell me how to discharge it how??
Kind of obvious... Plug it in the quadrocopter and use it until it discharges to a certain lvl.
do y'all know what happens when battery is over during drone flight?
+Aryaman Darda When the battery dies during flight, the aircraft turns into a rock.
+Aryaman Darda Lots of crying?
is it bad to fly to 8% every time?
Jolly good vid.....Thanks
Very helpful, and very worrying? Cheers.
I set my bat dis to 8 days ... Month later they are still 100% -.- whats going on?
Thank you for staying focused on instructions. I'm 74 and it is very hard to find simply instructions. I'm a beekeeper & would like to make some vids on my bees. I have many youtube vids to help new beekeepers & I try to stay focused on instructions. Should you want to see some of them, in youtube type ( wallsBeeMan ) have a good one my friend
Thanks I appreciate the feedback :)
Been practicing every day but can not get it to go higher than 97' and max distance is about 300 feet regardless of the settings. Phantom 3 pro
and I updated a week ago
You need to stick to bees lol
How can do you know the difference between a genuine and a none genuine Phantom 3 battery?
+ColinRussianForce I have found out that you get what you pay for Colin. I just bought one on eBay from California...not China...so I thought it would be fine..just $89...but it was not DJI and my DJI app said so, and refused to fly...I am now looking for a refund !
+Tacomaboy www.amazon.co.uk/Lumsing-Replacement-DJI-Phantom-Professional-Advanced-Intelligent/dp/B01CRYM2MA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1458177905&sr=8-2-spons&keywords=dji+battery+phantom+3&psc=1I would have to say this one is not genuine, I would always buy one with the same markings and lettering as the one that came with my drone to be sure.
Thank you!
Is it wise to only go down to 30% then every 20 cycles drain it to zero?
+natserog It's actually better not to drain it to zero ever, just stay about 10% as suggested in the video. This LiPo batteries are some fragile stuff!
MY RC is not working anymore :( , i flew a few time now and now, from one day to the other its not turning on. its like dead. i push the on button --> no lights
Great video :)
Thank
you very much !! :)
i can see some idiot now saying "dont tell me what to do with my batteries" lol
