I used to work for Lush. I'll say, they sure do a good job convincing people their products are natural but it's not true if you actually read the ingredients. They put a ton of artificial scents in their stuff that can be really irritating to your skin. Part of my job was to do a lot of demos on people and I cannot tell you how many times I got weird rashes and such all over my hands.

Yes anything Lush sell in black packaging is stuffed full of what they call "safe synthetics" like SLS, parabens and 'fragrances'. Their marketing is very carefully worded to not outright claim they are 100% organic but to definitely give that impression. This is to safeguard them against law suits but is ethically an appalling policy of deliberately misleading customers.

in the beginning i'd use so much moisturizer. but as i got more tattooed a lot of the artist were telling me that its best to keep moisturizing to a minimum. now i pretty much "dry heal" all of my tattoos. i use that term loosely, but i think its the closet definition of what i do lol.
i'll leave the bandages on for however long the artist recommends and then wash it when i take them off. I don't re wrap it. for the first three days ill just wash it twice a day with soap and water and then when it gets scabby and dry ill only moisture it when the itchiness becomes unbearable.
I find, for me, the more i baby it, the worse it heals.

I kind dry heal, I never liked the idea slapping creams etc on a fresh, open wound. I unwrap my tattoo and wash it as soon as I get home. I might wrap it the first night just depends how I feel. But I don’t put any moisturiser on it until maybe 3-4 days and it starts to get real dry.
Ive had a sanaderm type product once and I didn’t have a great experience with it.

I have been getting tattooed for around 20yrs now and have around 40 individual tattoos and I pretty much used Savlon on all of them with no problems at all, it’s a nice gentle cream and it’s formulated for cuts and grazes, so pretty much what a tattoo is !! So many artists have their own methods for tattoo healing and most of them told me to use Bepanthen which is actually for nappy rash which isn’t a cut or a graze, it’s also a very think cream and a lot of people have issues with it including myself so I stayed clear of it, however they now do a dedicated tattoo cream but never tried it !! Tattoo Goo was also good too

While i have only four tattoos and tried only two technics, i can already tell which one works best for me! Two of my tattoos i have been healong with bepanthen and two were dry healing (i only have black work mind you). The dry healing ones look amazing, i believe that they are as black as they can be. The bepanthen ones tho,,, they need touch up. They look way more faded than the dry healing ones (and the dry healing ones are older than the bepanthen ones).
In my experience (tho it might work for some) bepanthen isnt really good to heal tattoos, its so thick that you really have to rub it on the tattoo for it to penetrate your skin which is not a good thing when your tattoo is in the "crusty" phase.
Sure dry healing is metaphorically painful as in you really wanna scratch this bad boy but if you actually achieve not scratching it (which im proud of achieving!) Then it looks amazing!

Bepanthen....🤔....nappy care ointment....is that a baby bottom cream? I’ve always washed with antibacterial soap and let dry and then use a small amount of palmers coconut lotion maybe once or twice a day after cleaning for 2-3 days and then dry it out and let it snow lol. I did try dry healing on my upper shoulder blade area. I didn’t feel the need to lube it up...I think it depends also on the area of the body. If it’s moving and bending more def wouldn’t recommend dry healing...I’ve also in my earlier days used too much moisturizer and had issues with “bubbles” in my tattoo. Now I stick to more drying out because it really took forever to heal the bubble scabs. Love to try your method with saniderm!❤️

Bepanthen is great for closing the skin quickly. I always use it on chafed skin as well. I do: 2 days of bepanthen - 2 weeks of hustle butter, since hustle butter contains a lot of mango and your skin can react allergic to that. I'm allergic to all the second skin stuff and tried LUSH Ultrabalm but got bumps on my tattoo. This works the best for me, and never wrapping it in cling film again after I remove it the first time. 🥰 But kinda dry heal tho. Only moisturize it like twice a day for a very thin layer.

I just switched to dry healing recently! I am on like 8 sessions of a leg sleeve and the last 2 sessions I dry healed. I couldn't see any difference in quality between the ones I used moisturizer for and the ones I didn't.
The first 3 or 4 nights, I use light lotion and wrap in cling film while I sleep. The rest of the time I only out lotion on if it gets overwhelmingly itchy or if it's on a bendy area (knee cap) to keep the scabs from breaking.
    So much less work! 🤣

I got my tattoos in the 90's and my friend came down for a holiday, she decided she wanted a tattoo while she was here so I took her to my tattooist and left her to get her tattoo while I did a bit of shopping. When I got back she had got a tattoo EXACTLY the same as 1 of mine. It was from 1 of his books but I was so angry, it still annoys me when I think about it. Suffice to say, it healed very well and quite quickly. I think it totalled 4 weeks until it stopped itching and no visible dry skin. 2 years on and it’s still black and crisp.

Never heard of these methods!! May try the lash one out sometime.
My artist has me keep the wrap for only 2-3 hours after leaving the shop, immediately wash with antibacterial soap (I use dial in scented antibacterial), and add aquaphor. Wash/aquaphor for 2-5 times a day as necessary (usually 3) for the first 3 days, then after wash 2-3 times a day and add a thin layer on regular in scented soap until done flaking, total takes 3-4 weeks to stop peeling.
I personally feel paranoid keeping the wrap on so this method works for me, but the itching. Oh god. It’s the actual worst. 💀

The first time I healed a tattoo the artist recommended a specific cream to me (she actually gave it to me for free) and it was lovely. I loved the smell and the consistency. When I finished that one I wanted to get more but all of a sudden I couldn't find it anywhere! So I switched to bepanthenol. Ugh. Terrible experience. I then switched to another cream (recommended by another artist) that is similar to bepanthenol but has a lot less problems in my opinion. I've also found out that coconut oil is literally a lifesaver in the last stages of healing, it really helps my skin stay hydrated and soft. I might look into using coconut oil for the whole time or using some coconut oil based products in the future 🦄

My tattoo artist has me heal my tattoos in a way I have never heard anyone else mention, but I swear by it, all of my tattoos have healed so fast and so well, it’s been great. I wait at least 6 hours to unwrap the tattoo, then I wash it with non-antibacterial soap (that is something he is adamant on), and I was it in the hottest water that I can handle (which does sting a little. The reasoning behind this is that where you were tattooed is going to be aggravated, and hot it starts to immediately temper that tattooed area, so it more quickly becomes the same temperature as the rest of your skin. This greatly speeds up the healing process. I have never had any problems with sticking to bedsheets or clothing, and my scabs form fairly quickly, and are so paper thin they are hardly noticeable. My tattoo artist also provides me with an ointment to use to keep the tattoo moisturizer as it heals. All in all, all my experiences with healing have been great so far.

I want to love hustle butter but it does nothing for my skin. Doesn't moisturize, just makes me feel greasy. I use saniderm now, and after a week with that I put a thin film of aquaphor on at night and moisturize as needed with lubriderm. Pretty much healed my whole sleeve that way. My boyfriend, on the other hand, had some success with saniderm at first, but when he got the section of his sleeve done near his armpit the sensitive skin got irritated and actually scarred terribly. So now he uses aquaphor or hustle butter and lotion exclusively. I think the secret is to try different things, listen to your body and figure out what works for your own skin.

And I've found that the longer I leave the film on, the easier it becomes to remove, so I try and be patient and leave my second piece for a full seven days (I change the first after 24 hours). Healed my sleeve that way and it worked great for me, personally.

Instead of replying 'oh thanks for the tip I didn't know' or 'I'll use that next time', I got a curt message back saying 'well I've used it for my other tattoos and they're fine.' Well yeah, that's because they're fucking tiny and you can barely see them. I hope she gets a big piece and all the ink falls out from the fucking Vaseline. 😑

I've used Savlon (never again) Vaseline (OK but not great) Bepanthen (I find it great) and a few various tattoo butters but those keep dipping in & out of availability.
