I love when you guys say it's cold outside at 70 degrees and are wearing sweatshirts. Here is PA at 70 we would be outside in t-shirts. It's only been in the 20's here for the last 2 weeks. That's COLD! I'm thinking about moving to AZ.
My Matchless is the same way as far as the tickle goes. Once it's been warm, if you tickle it, it will be flooded and won't start. So no tickle is required on my Matchless either once it's warm.
Hi ,wrong front brake cable fitted, looks about 2 ft too long, why is the wiring loom hanging down from underneath the gas tank? Still its a nice looking bike. Is the exhaust blued from over advanced timing??
I lifted and zip tied the harness. Brake cable is way too long but works and is out of scope for this repair effort. Dunno about the exhaust. The bike is in the state of, "if it runs really nicely, don't mess with it." Further effort will be the owners decision. We will do a test ride when we get the new battery.
This is (or may be) another case where we fix a bunch of little things that are not quite right and the bike suddenly comes alive! Or it could be the bike pretending to be fixed and just waiting for us to turn it back to the owner. For sure the ignition switch wiring was in poor shape, and the under seat wiring was a mess, the 6volt coil was wrong, the battery was weak, and the valves being waaaaay to tight definitely didn't help the situation. And maybe the advance unit was sticking. If so I hope the bit of oil I got down to it helped (helps). But I can't say for sure which of the above was "The" reason for the problem or the cure. And this is a common situation. Fix a bunch of stuff, the bike runs fine, goes home with owner, and we sincerely hope it is really fixed and not that the gremlin just went into hiding. Ahh, the wonderful world of vintage bikes.
No. This bike is not configured as a no battery system. It needs a battery to run. The new battery is SUPPOSED to arrive today. Once it is here we will do a test ride.
Yeah, the iPhone mic, and the remote ear piece mic seem to get confused. And if there is noise cancelling it doesn't seem to be able to handle engine noise. I wish I could do better. I will try.
Way to go Kevin. It's always a good feeling when your theory turns out to be correct.

Come on out! We got room, and there's a lot of Brit-Bikes that need attention!
Have a nice trip! Merry Christmas

Thankfully, you seem to have found a setting the bike is happy with. Hope this is the solution.
What do you think? Worn/ damaged jet and a sticking advance unit. Definitely on the home run.

@fjdelmonte I'm sure it will be fine. Enjoy your break.
Listen to it when it starts. It sounds partially flooded. You may need to check the carb.
So will it start without the battery???
Good question. I guess they are tackling one thing at a time. I'm interested to see if it will too. That would be the ultimate solution.

Mate hard to hear when you got bike running
