Usually honey mustard in the U.S. is 1 part mustard to 1 part mayonnaise to 1 part honey with a splash of vinegar and a dash of cayenne or paprika. So blending the mustard with a few dates, a few soaked cashews, a splash of maple syrup, and some paprika would give it a texture more similar to the non-vegan version. Super delicious!
I've been watching loads of vids for making mustard but you sir were the one who got into the science of it little bit so one can know at what steps what happens & can change things to their taste. Kudos!
Thanks for these recipes! Just so you know, in case you ever need any or want to try making spicy mustard with them, you should be able to find black mustard seeds at any Indian grocery. We use it extremely often in Indian cooking 🙂
Derek talking about making mustard with only brown mustard seeds, and then he said "Wow, that put some hair on my chest," i spat my coffee at the monitor and had to clean my keyboard before replying... hahaha xD you are great Derek, thanks for what you do! Mad inspiring!
I just finished making the first version, with some alterations. I love heat, so I did 50/50 black white, used very cold water, waited 10 minutes, added salt and white vinager. The aroma is amazing, I took a taste and yes it's a bit bitter, but I would put it on a sandwhich right now. Sealed it up and I'll let it sit a day or two. Can't wait. Thanks, this is going to be GREAT. Cheers from Kamala Beach, Thailand.
Made your mustard lastnight and since it was the first time I have ever made mustard, I went "what the heck". It was runny and wow, oh so bitter, I didn't think that it would change, but it did, thickened and mellowed beautifully. It sat on the bench for a little over 24 hours and it is amazing! Probably the best mustard I've ever had. I will be making my own mustard forever! Thanks Derek :)
Very cool about helping the fats and liquids stay together, I didn't know that. Cool. As for the mustard, I've been wanting to make my own. Thank you for showing me how. Cheers and boogie boogie, Ivy.
Thank you for posting this! This turned out so yummy! I've never made mustard before, and this is so much better than the commercial mustards that have harmful chemicals in them.
Thanks for the mustard video. I was hoping you would do it. Plus that intro is so funny. You nailed that cheesy extra happy infomercial vibe. I would buy a nifty kitchen gadget from you lol
This is quite possibly the best intro to one of your videos yet! Right next to your no more coffee video. I'm definitely going to pick up some mustard seeds from work tomorrow and make some sauce!
@@Simnettnutrition What I mean is that your positive attitude in every video inspires me and motivates me to cook more at home and eat clean. I just watched your video and you are sooo funny.. you see you are awesome 😁
Derek, I love the fact that you give us a food science lesson with each of your videos! It makes the “why I should eat this” idea make sense! Thank you for that 😊 I can’t wait to try these mustards, it is my fave condiment 😁👍🏻👍🏻♥️🌱♥️
Loved the creativity in this video man. Pumping out reps in the corner of the kitchen whist the mustard gets its spice on' is super Simnett Nutrition Approved
I can’t wait to make my mustard! I’m still eating my way through the sauerkraut 😋 I find these videos so useful and entertaining! It’s also fun learning about the foods and how they’re made. Along with all the sauces I have learned to make from Derek now I hardly ever buy anything pre-made from the store. You start to know everything you are putting into your body and never any additives ❤️
This is such a great idea man, I loved this as much as the sour kraut vid! I always love your recipes and you are such a huge inspiration for me and really inspired me to start my own channel!
Tale of Two Mustards.... I tried your recipe with the 3:1 ratio ground up for me and another recipe for my hubby who loves all things hot and spicy with whole yellow, brown and black seeds along with some habeneros. I'm glad I cut back on the brown seeds as you suggested as it's still pretty spicy. It was very runny and very vinegary so I ended up adding another Tbl of yellow seeds and a splash of water. I added a dallop of molasses (it was all I had) to my version and it was really good. This is a first for me, so thank you for getting me started on the mustard journey! I have ordered enough seeds to make LOTS of homemade mustard. We were ordering Lowensenf from Germany at $10/jar to eat with our sourdough rye breadsticks... great mustard but very expensive! I'm looking forward to trying different seasonings and flavors. :-)
0:34 LoL I can just imagine how hard it is to make such a happy face when eating raw tofu between wheat bread. Unless he jazzed it up in between😉 Infomercials are definitely fun to watch, they’re SUPER fun to be a part of!☺️💖
Derek! I have been WAITING for this recipe!! Thanks so much! If you would have posted this 12 hours earlier I wouldn't have had to buy stone ground mustard hahaha Can't wait to try these!
Great video man! Have you ever tried Silan? It's vegan honey made from dates and it's a traditional food in the middle east. It goes amazing with tahini and pretty much anything else you could think about
LOL that was hilarious! At first, when you drop onto the floor, I thought you were going to do the anxious kitchen dance I do! Thanks for the recipes tho.
Thanks bro. Another guy suggested soaking over night in the water vinegar mixture. 1:1:1 ratio. Then drain and pulverize(to desired consistency), adding any drained liquid if needed.
I like the actor. He was really good. Great video!!!!! Funny I was just saying I need to find a mustard video. Even funnier I was going to look at your videos to see if you had one.
Between this and avant garde vegan mayonnaise, I’m all good on the sauce department
Hey thanks, Juan! I don't care for the store mayonnaise.
I was thinking the same thing 🤣
hot for food ranch is amazing
I LOVE Gaz but his recipes are often elaborate … enter his sauces
Good eatings also has a great mayo and other sauces/dips

hahah, thanks so much, glad I made yeah laugh! To be fair, it was spicy!! :p
Whole mustard seeds are also great for cooking curries. Toast them in a dry pan till they start popping and then add the rest.
I laughed so hard Derek with your intro !!!
Nice! Glad I gave you a laugh. Crystal and I had fun filming it.
hello Gosia. I laughed as well.
Yes, me too :)
