This is the beginning of something new, oh I meant old and that is something very good. May more people play KeyForge, THE best innovative card game on the market. It's worth it \o/
I think the set is a good idea, however who are they going to give it to? I'm a frustrated player who just wants to play. I live near a major US city and have to drive nearly and hour to get to the closest store that even carries Keyforge. I hardly ever play as a result. I'd like to see them take this product. Fill up a large van and drive around the country trying to get the game started in some new stores. THAT would be a winning strategy. Build the player base and increase marketing efforts. I can get cards, no problem. It's finding an in-person player base that's nearly impossible. (Sorry online players. Just not into that. Want real cards and in person play.)
@@FlightlessPheasant Let's put it this way, I've been playing since the beginning of 2018, but wasn't as active online in the early days as I am now. I really like the game because it has so much potential.
@@mattstrott753 Let me put something totally crazy up for discussion: WHY do players always have to fixate on a LGS? Buy a few displays and talk to a few people and make something of it yourself. Like I said, just a crazy idea. Sometimes you have to think outside the box... :)
@Papierzeit Honestly, that is most of what I do right now. It works okay, but it is limited by the people I already know. If I want to meet new people and get them to play, then I need to find a place where I can meet people who are likely to enjoy playing games. Like an LGS. 😁
That's also a good point to make at the end. I believe that at some point there will be no more CoTA and then this new set makes sense because then all new players can buy it and have a similar feeling as we had back in 2018 when we played CoTA. So to speak an "Alpha" Set Reprinted. I think the idea is cool.
This feels like a set for the new players only, and tbh competitively I don't think variety is bad. Actually, the dominance of GR and Geistoid on the VTs is not great and there's something here that does get lost a bit, the set are not rotating out so you can skip sets and play your old decks every time you want to. I'll probably buy a couple of discovery decks just for the fun but otherwise will be a set that I'll skip as it is clearly intended for new players discovering the game :)
I think increasing set variety is a good thing, but I can see why people are grumpy about it. I like my matchups being less predictable and more unique. I want to see a top 8 VT consisting of every player using a different set. I like when new sets release because the community has a sense of discovery. There is a new potential of finding something special and it's exciting! When we sit with one set too long people get resigned to saying, "Only this is good, all this is bad. Only care about this to win" it loses appeal for a lot of people.
@aceofkeys I'm not certain that saturating the market with releases really solves that problem. In fact, it might make it worse. People only have so much money to spend on a card game, so if you release too much too close together you're basically guaranteed to see the less popular products fall flat, when if they had more room to breath they might sell better.
Thank you for breaking this news! I don't understand not even including stun😅 A player is almost immediately going to need new gear as soon as they buy a deck outside of the set!
I hadn't considered that yet, but if the one player starter set doesn't have stun, ward, and enrage tokens then yeah, they probably will need to figure out a way to get those almost immediately.
Not including all the tokens in the starter set would be a disservice to the people who buy them. I’d find it very frustrating if I bought a starter set then immediately needed to get more tokens.
I don't think they need to innovate with this set because it's kind of a CORE set that picks up new players and that's a good thing. In other words an entry level product like you would consider CotA or AoA when it comes to the simple mechanics.
@@FlightlessPheasant Yes, you could be right about that, if only because so many new sets are being released at the end of the year. It could have been better distributed, BUT maybe there is a deeper reason for this that we don't know yet...
@Chegg28 I guess it depends what you mean by "competitive." If you mean, 'can they win Vault Tours', then I very much hope not. If you mean, 'can they win at a casual level against other sets', then I think that is likely.
Cota 1st print won archon worlds last year, a cota alliance won at vegas vault tour this year, and Pink Fraud has done pretty well competitively. Simple can still be quite competitive - i.e. a deck with a bunch of dust pixies and virtuous works

The Mysticeti is a untamed dark tidings card. So I think will be untamed rather than unfathomable.
Another great sealed tournament set
@@andrewkong6728 I'm pretty sure that you are right and the package art is not accurate.
The house icon shows Unfathomable, not Untamed; I think Mysticeti card art just matches the theme GG was going for.
