Can you beat Pokemon X/Y with single dual type basic pokemon without using STAB moves? (Example Larvitar and no Rock/Ground type moves)
If X/Y is not possible, Black/White/B2/W2 instead and if that's not possible, Platinum

It physically hurt me when I heard that Whismur could learn that. 60 base power water move is good early in any run. Sometimes I wish MDB would do a bit more research before some of these runs, because this isn't the first time a TM move could help during a run.

Wouldn't it be cool to add a "number of tries" counter to every major fight? I think that could put the difficulty of some fights into perspective (although the genius commentary is more than enough of course).
I like the idea. MDB always says how often he tries, but that would show better how extreme some of the fights are.
Most of the time he says how many tries it took but it would still be nice to have this little message on screen though

I like the idea but I expect the time and effort it takes to edit that in would be too much. The legend already records, edits and uploads more videos than humanly possible imho
I'd like to see an HM slave run: Any pokemon in any generation that can learn at least 4 HM's one of which must be the first HM given in the game. As soon as you get the first HM you can only use HM moves in required battles. It's almost literally the opposite of this run in that you can have a Pokemon with OK stats but an extremely limited move set and almost no type coverage. There are very few pokemon that can learn 4 or more HM's until gen 3, so I recommend starting there.
Some candidates: Tropius, Linoone, Tentacool/Tentacruel, Sandshrew (gen4), Krabby, Lickitung, Rhydon, Kangaskhan, Furret, Gligar (gen 4), Sneasel, Corphish, Kecleon, Absol, Buizel (D/P/Pt only).

I have a similar challenge. You can use any Pokémon you want, and you can have a full team and change it, but you can only use hm moves.
Bidoof is pro HM slave tho so that would have to be the pokemon too lol

Challenge Idea (Day 2): Pokemon Emerald with Only One Snorunt
It has low base stats and loses to the gyms 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, and 8, while also losing to both team magma and aqua. It also struggles in the water areas and against Norman, Glacia, Wallace, and Steven.
I mean, snorunt doesn't really lose to gym 3, the only super effective hit wattson has for snorunt is rollout on voltorb

For a run idea: How about a Gen 1 Dratini run? Literally the only Dragon type move is Dragon Rage, and while it would be useful in early fights... You don't get it until Level 40. Your only damaging move until level 30 is Wrap, which is 15 power. I always forget just how terrible a pokemon Dratini is... Does at least get a good selection of TM moves for later in the run, at least! (But garbage stats)
wrap is amazing in gen 1 not an easy run but he does get access to wrap which is a instant plus

It's more of a long run than difficult. Although Dratini is short in stats, it can simply Thunder Wave everything then sweep with Wrap. It would be a really long run, but easy
All first stage pseudo line pokemon are trash. Most 2nd stages are trash too, with maybe Gabite and Metang being the exceptions. They're just meh instead of completely horrible lol

JRose11 did a run with only mewtwo and i think he also did minimum battles and finished on level 50. So i guess thats the lowest level with the highest stats pokemon. Atleast for gen 1
I finished a run however not solo with a team where the highest level member was like 47.
A different idea for once: Pick a random Gen and a random route out of that Region. Now go on that route and the first pokemon you run into, you do a challenge with.
Its gonna be a different approach on your challenges, but a change after over a year might be fun.

The problem with B/W and B2/W2 is that grinding in those games is horrible because you get less exp with each level up
@@devilman4723 the xp system changed and the lower level the mons are you fighting are compared to your own you get much less

I've got an idea: can you beat pokemon platinum with only one Finneon?
It is one of those pokemon i ever forget. Finneon's base stats are 330 and the moveset ist not that bad, there are some nice moves.
Idea: Beat emerald with one Murkrow, it has a below average move pool and i’d like to see how you deal with that.
He will deal with that by winning
Double Team
Stat wise, it's a lot better than most Pokemon he uses.
Just a few tips to make grinds for money and levels easier in FireRed:
1) Put an Amulet Coin on your pokemon. You can double the amount of money made with it, though you'll need 40 Pokemon in the Dex to get it. You can get it in the upstairs observation room between Celadon and Cycling Road
2) Grind in the Sevii Islands, specifically on Island One. They have higher level wild mon and trainers that aren't too powerful but give good experience, and there's an area with plenty of trainers next to a hot spring (going to the center of it restores your health and by the time you exit it, the VS seeker is charged). They also give out more money than anyone prior to Victory Road.
With these in mind, you can make a lot of money in a relatively short period of time and gain good experience, since Kanto's trainers are rather weak close to endgame.
That's literally how I grind in FR 🤣😂

Hey MDB, I dunno if you saw this comment a few videos back, but I'm gonna post it again here. Two things
1: I really wanna see a Pokemon Gold with only one Sneasel run, since Ice/Dark is a very frail type, Sneasel is a glass cannon, and Ice/Dark did not support Sneasel being a physical glass cannon until Gen 2
2: You never mention if you do it, but in Gen 5 one way you can make the challenge go a bit faster is catch 5 Lillipups on Route 1 with Pickup, and grind them up to level 21 to pick up rare candies with the EXP Share from Castelia City Battle Company on the 55th floor by battling the Janitor at the end. This would speed up the challenge a ton if you can get a bunch of rare candies for the end of the challenge

Hey, could you beat a Pokémon game with only frustration, a move that gets weaker the more a Pokémon likes you?
Assuming this works like the Metronome challenge, where he could have multiple Pokemon of the same evolutionary line, the Pokemon used would have to both learn Frustration by level-up and be able to hit ghosts with a normal move. If that's possible in any gen, it would be an interesting run.

Rustyspottedcat he would have to use buneary, as they are the only one to get it by level up,so a way he could do this is in HGss have a buneary as his starter, play regularly till goldenrod, then catch a Pokémon that does not like him in the grass. Go to the store on Sunday, get frustration. Catch miltank with scrappy ability, tech frustration, beat ecruteak gym. Then u can hit ghost types all the way thru with miltank

I had this idea just now... you ever heard of Blaze Black and Volt White? They're modified versions of the Unova games that basically make the game harder, have a wider variety of Pokemon, and some other really interesting changes. You could do some challenges with certain team combos there, maybe... one that came to mind is 'beat with one starter of each of the 3 types' as I know that at least in BB/VW2 you can get extra starters, so there's something you could do... of course you could do others but that was just one that came to mind. Love these videos, hope you can keep having a blast making them...

I think that getting Thunderbolt for Lorelei and using a more accurate Normal type move would make this kinda easier, but it was a good run all things considered. Good job on that!

I have a genuine question: do you reuse the same footage for the fossil bit or do you record it every time?
On the pokemon yellow pikachu only run he didnt re use the fossil bit and for runs in which the game doesn't have a fossil in the overworld (cant remember which gen it is, might be Gen 4) he uses a previous gens fossil gag. He probably has the clip saved just encase he forgets to record the bit
I want to start by saying I do love your videos and admire your dedication. Having said that, you saying you wanted to make it harder by using a worse pokemon in the intro made my brain translate it like this: "Beating my balls to death with a bat hurt like hell. Now I'm gonna see how much worse it will be with this spiked club."

@yossarian I did this challenge already on my channel. It is harder than it seems. The 4th gym is such a brick wall.
@yossarian that wasnt the main issue with that gym. Its Chikoritas move pool by that part of the game. Your best bet is Razor Leaf which is resisted
