    I appreciate your video, but I have to say 2 things...
    #1 - There are 2 "Load" line terminals on every outlet. 1 is for the actual load that's coming in and the other sends the load out to the next plug that's piggy backed off it to the next outlet. You shouldn't put both wires on 1 line. Using a multimeter will easily help you determine which wire is the live "load" wire coming in. It will register on your meter. The one that doesn't register would then be the piggybacked line that would connect to the 2nd terminal.
    #2 - The looped ground wire, you installed the wrong way. You should've had it facing the opposite way as from how you installed it. Always install it with the wire going in the way that you tighten the screw. That way, as you tightenen the screw up, it actually pulls the wire in and tightens the wire for a strong, safe and secure connection. The way you did yours actually pushes the wire out of the screw as you tighten it and it could one day come loose.
    I am by no means criticizing you my friend. I just wanted you and others who may watch your video to know those things. God forbid something bad happens and wires come loose and short things out or maybe cause a fire. JS.

      I have the same outlet, with 2 blacks and 2 whites, I understand that one of the blacks is hot but what do you pig tail the remainder black wire to? Thanks for your helpful information. I hope to hear from you.

    • @getreal3336
      @getreal3336 4 місяці тому +1

      Hello Maggie @maggiebrattoli383
      I am by no means an electrician. I only know things about electricity from researching and doing things around my own homes over the years. 😁
      That said, when you have 2 black and 2 white wires coming off the outlet like that, that's so that you can wire 1 of each to the power coming in to your new outlet, and the other 2 wires are used to connect to another plug to carry the power over to that one. 1 is called the "Load' side and the other the "Line" side. The "Line" carries the power over to the next outlet in line if you were in fact adding another outlet.
      The 2 black wires are your "Hot' wires and they attach to the brass screw. The 2 white wires are the neutral wires and those attach to the silver screw. Then of course you wire the copper ground wires together and connect those to the greenish screw to ground your outlet.
      If you don't have a 2nd receptacle to wire up to (meaning that you're not going to use the "Line" side wires), you take the 2 "Line" wires and simply connect those to the load wires.
      So, you'd connect all the black wires together and screw them down tightly to the brass screw. Then connect all the white wires together and screw those all down to the silver screw. Then of course, you connect those copper ground wires to that greenish ground screw.
      For extra good measure, call HD or Lowes, and ask someone in the electrical dept. They'll help you too. Obviously we want to be safe, and it never hurts to get another opinion and make 100% sure.
      Anyway, hope thay helps you. GL and have a great weekend! 🙂

    STOP DO NOT DO THIS!!!!! 1st thing I'm not a certified electrician but I was a Firefighter/EMT for 20+ years. I've also rewired & restored my last 3 homes. For those watching. Do not put 2 wires into 1 outlet clamp like he did. 2 wires in the same clamp plate is dangerous & a code violation. You don't know if both have the same clamp pressure. If one is loose and comes out. A few things could happen. If lucky it trips the breaker in the load center (fuse box) Unlucky it energizes the box you could get a arc fault. Causing problems like. When you plug something in it may shock you a little or grab you & not let go. Or it could just burn your place and everything in it down. The correct way is for you to make a pigtail. Get another piece of wire same color about 6-8 inch strip off 3/4" both ends. Next get 2 wire nuts red would be best or to make it easy get two- 3 port wago connectors. Either way take the 2 black wires that where in the box strip insulation back 3/4" along with the new piece of wire get all 3 tips together and twist on wire nut . twist until it twists the wires together. pull firmly on each wire to make sure it's not loose. Then take other end of the new wire and connect it like he showed. Repeat on the white wires. On the outlets you have a copper colored screw & a silver colored screw. Copper is always your hot "Black wire" Silver is neutral "White wire" Remember I'm not a certified electrician but what he showed here is wrong and can KILL YOU... and that would suck....

    • @inkman002
      @inkman002 Рік тому +1

      Relax, Its not against code. you make good points but most gfci receptacles are configured this same way where you have two hots under the same terminal. Making two hooks under a single terminal screw would be a code violation and your method would be the preferred way of dealing with that.

      Another point to make is many of these USB wall outlets are not made with good isolation of mains power to the secondary side of the circuit. This can result in your USB wire becoming live with 120 volts. Make sure what you install is a name brand product (Leviton)

    It appears that the orientation of the ground hook was going against the tightening of the screw as opposed to hooking in the direction that the screw is threaded.

    If you took that old box out, you could use a new works to tighten up the hole and make the outlet solid.

      It will also flush up the box,outlet and plate

    My USB port is 125V can I replace it with a 120V outlet ? Because the outlets in the house normally are 120 and this USB port is 125 with 15 amps. Can you still replace it?

    • @614Lyfe
      @614Lyfe  3 роки тому +2

      I would just hook it up like the one you are replacing. If you are adding a new one I would call an electrician.

  • @rickwong-stkexecsecretary793
    @rickwong-stkexecsecretary793 4 місяці тому

    did you connect the ground hook opposite of the screw? It's not incorrect, but the more correct way is to have your hook going the same way as you are tightening the screw. other than that thanks for the video

    Not shure if you were correct to put 2 wires on each screw, better to make pigtail first.
