The sketchbook makes me wanna cry . I stopped drawing for almost 3 years and seeing this gave me a core flashback of when I used to draw . Your art is so flexible it’s not just a specific genre or something like that it’s completely unpredictable like I wouldn’t know what would be in the next page . If anything, thank you for showing us this sketchbook tour . Really sparked something in me .

@@caweeva the drawing is just ok, nothing stands out. Not particularly accurate drawing, nor solid form, nor anything inventive or expressive/emotional. Somewhat below average for calarts I think. In any case, no art degree is worth 120k or whatever calarts costs these days. You don’t need a degree for art and you can find online schools that are cheaper and faster. Animschool if you want to do 3D. And Aaron Blaise and Marc brunet and many others have extensive online videos for relatively cheap.
Exactly how I feel! I get that you have to be VERY good at drawing and theory (life drawing, anatomy, movement, perspective, color etc). They are there to teach you how to animate, not how to draw! But CalArt is insane. Like, this person looks like they could already be animating, maybe even professionally. Their drawings are already at a professional level in many aspects. I don’t get it. And it’s very discouraging at times. I’m glad I’m not applying to CA myself.

For the fish, birds and animals did you make the studies of pictures? Or directly observing the animals? 3. For the dancing poses did you made the studies of a video or directly with the dancers? thank you! for life drawings i like to just go right in with ink, but if u think u need a rough sketch at first for the more complicated stuff, go ahead! for fish/animals i went to an aquarium or zoo and did it from life. sometimes though, i would draw from pictures, but from real life is usually better. for the dancers, i did it from a youtube video. i wish i could see dancers in real life to draw from, but at that time i unfortunately didn’t have access to that.

absolutely amazing! you seem really talented so i was wondering how you maintain character consistency? my characters look completely different in every iteration i do, and yours seem MUCH better? is there some mysterious secret i dont know lol?
your life drawings are so loose and pretty :’)) do you have any tips for it? i’m particularly struggling with drawing portraits and making things look real enough...
thanks! for looseness and gestural life drawing, if you’re drawing on a large pad, i like to hold the pencil at an angle to the paper instead of how i normally hold pencils for writing. also, try to get a sense of the line of action or movement to make the drawing feel more alive. for making things looks realistic or more accurate, blind contour drawing can help with observation skills, and as always, just keep practicing!
Do you have a “go-to” set of art supplies you carry around with you for drawing on the go, or do you just use whatever you have with you? Or touch up later? Your pages are so full of color and life! Definitely need to get more color in my sketchbook. Also does the moleskine hold up to watercolor?
thanks! it’s been a while since ive filled a sketchbook up like how i did for this calarts one. when i was filling this one up, my go to supplies were: ink brush, watercolor brush that holds water in it, a small portable watercolor set, ink pens, and pencil. later, i would touch up with some paint if i needed to cover up something, or some marker for a pop of color. but also, i sometimes liked to pick up whatever i could find near me and try to make the most of it. and the moleskine holds the watercolor up to a certain extent, definitely can’t do too much water coloring in this sketchbook. i got the art version of the moleskine.

Well they do teach animation and want to have the "basics" right but I see your point.
A. This is far from perfect.
B. Calarts isn’t magic and you can learn the same stuff online and from books without going into debt.
