who is older Lake? or Lucas?
also identical or fraternal twins
Nooooooooooooooo
The real kicker is knowing that no one will recognize that they're interacting with the wrong twin. He did such devious things to his brother in order to be "liked". Yet, in the end, no one knew him well enough to see the difference. No one will realize that an imposter took his place, because that's how surface level his "popularity" was. They weren't his friends.
Oh the irony

I'm sorry to ruin the mood but...

@@waddledeeznutz6477 💀
they probably would realize after the events of the film took place (maybe he would be late or not do the mannerisms of his twin quite right) after all, we only saw the first few seconds of the first day impersonating him.
The fact that Lake had to disguise himself as Lucas really says what the world thought of him, and what he thought of himself. He thought Lake wouldn't be as missed as Lucas, despite saying earlier that if people knew the real Lucas, they would like Lake more.
The world can be horrible because of favouritism embedded into our society. The favouritism in our society is the reason why people can have low self-esteem, envy, greed etc. This short film is a great example of favouritism within our society, just with a darker twist.
@@ravenwithcall8527 Yes. And the way society is right now, I bet something similar has happened like this.
in the reflection of the glasses you can see him draging away Lucas's body
I also feel like if they were to find out what happened to Lucas the people will twist the narrative since one he is a "bad child" and not well liked either way so he would deal with alot of repercussions
Luca's whole life was dependent on a lie at Lake's expense....And it's not like anyone besides Lake knew about the real Lucas anyway. "Very bad" Lake is gone. "Good 'ol" Lucas simply needs a new pair of glasses, and one less bad apple to be late for class. The evil(er?) twin is gone, regardless of who everybody thinks that was....And figuring the Lake and Lucas their family and community know never even really existed, let's hope this Lucas turns out better than the first one was going to...

Brilliant analysis
Boy who cried wolf
Wow
like the boy who cried wolf
As the old fable “the boy who cried wolf” has taught us, if you continuously lie about something, no one will believe you when you’re really telling the truth
I interpret it as Lake only taking Lucas's place because he had no other choice. Think about it, if Lucas the 'good' kid died, everyone would blame Lake for doing something since everyone knew Lake already hated his twin brother, not knowing Lucas was much, much worse.
It feels somewhat poetic that the brother Lucas bullied to become more liked is the one who took his coveted position.
I actually believe this if you look closely in the glasses the one dragging the body has messier hair
Plus this fits into the ‘twins’ aspect of the film. Of course it would be easy to switch if you looked the same!
Somehow I feel like the ending was Lucas's final, unintentional joke.
He said "You wish you were me." Lake never want to, but now he have to...
For god knows how long it will be, until he either break the news or someone finds out. If this were to be real, yes I know it's dumb to feel sympathy to a fictional characters, but still--I hope they understand, more so as they have no right to judge him even more to live as his other half, who HATED him.
Lake’s car was hidden. Maybe it’s to hide something. Because Lake had the car last. But I like that theory
If a part 2 comes out showing this guy in adulthood, we may see him getting caught.
Lucas: YOU WISH YOU WERE ME!
Lake: Good idea.

The saddest part about this ending is that he couldn't tell them the truth even if he wanted to. I like how when Lucas breaks the rules, Lake says “I’m gonna tell mrs J.” Not their parents- not the authorities- *Their school teacher-*
Saddest part is that "Mrs J" is probably the entire world to them. They're children, Lake probably doesn't even fully grasp WHO the authorities are.
Which rules? You mean laws or school rules? Obviously, if it was school rules they’d tell their teacher but laws, authorities, yes.
I think they live on school grounds by the look of it. Which is something some countries do in fact do.
First lake second Lucas
@@kilsnacks ohh that makes sense actually
I refuse to accept that these two could never get along. Lake had that moment where he looked at his car and listened to Lucas begging for help. He turned around likely to help him out, showing he's choosing to be the bigger person, even if he hates his brother. The only reason didn't was because he wasn't fast enough.
Yeah I noticed that too. Lake didn't even know the car was coming and that's why he didn't help him faster. You can tell by the shock on his face.
Lucas: HELP ME UP! IM SORRY OK LAKE! PLEASE!
Lake: 🗿
Lake: help yourself
Lake:*turns into talking Ben* no
Lmfao but dark
Im I know how ankle hurts but why didn’t he crawl?
"there's something inside you."
I love how Lake isn’t designed to look like a really mean psychotic kid. He looks like a normal kid especially compared to his brother’s design.
Domt judge a book by its cover
I don't even think Lake was psychotic, he was pushed around so many times by his brother, and was treated terribly being in a toxic relationship.
Lake didn't even intend for Lucas' death, he just wanted his car back that Lucas wouldn't give back.
Although, it is pretty dark that he took over his brother's life, and faking his death.
And even then, no one would believe him even if he came out with the truth and said he got hit by a car, everyone would just think he murdered Lucas intentionally.
So in Lake's mind, the best possible option that he saw for himself was to just take over his brother's life.
Those glasses were a good touch though
Ikr ! Was thinking the same
Lucas made his life a living hell, that’s as much mercy Lake could give
When Lake said "I'm tellimg Mrs. J" and Lucas replied "Really? Think she'll believe you?" in 2:14 is probably the reason Lake pretended to be his brother because he knew no one will believe him.

This is genuinely one of the saddest animations I've ever seen, especially considering the relationship with twins in general having a certain mental bond and unmatched love for one another, such as Gravity Falls or the book series Unwanteds by Lisa Mcmann being great examples of this. And there are still plenty of examples in fiction where the main protagonist saves his enemy like Geronimo saving his cousin from a train in the 13th book of Geronimo Stilton or Anne trying to save Sasha in Amphibia. I personally think this is still very sad but I still think you did a good job on it.
Huh neat, a reference to the Unwanteds. Don’t see that too much. I love that series
@@SuperDestroyerFox Nice to see you do, I find it a slightly sad series but I do like it
@@kirbypro8112 “slightly sad” feels the same as Alex Hirsh saying “this will just be another silly episode filled with goofy jokes for kids”
@@SuperDestroyerFox Oh, thanks for telling me, in that case it's very sad because of all the deaths that happened over the course of the series.
The sad fact about this is the only reason Lucas said he was sorry was because he knew he was in danger / hurt. If he wasn't he would never have said that or even considered his brother's feelings considering his unknown literal hatred for him.
Edit : I feel bad for the animator who has to see the sheer embarrassment in the reply section. Arguing over an animated film cmon now 🤡
children in a nutshell
So we aren’t gonna talk about lake’s unhealthy obsession with toys and obvious anger management issues? Not to mention the physical harm he put other children in as retaliation instead of trying to understand why his brother didn’t like him? We’re also ignoring Lucas literally covering up his brother’s death and committing fucking identity theft because his brother was a snitch? Jesus christ you have some really messed up priorities. Oh no my brother was a snitch, lets leave him in the road suffering and take his identity when he dies.
Edit: it’s so disturbing how many of you are defending Lake for what he did. While Lucas may have held some control over what happened, he isn’t the sole orchestrator over what occurred before and during the road scene. Lucas and Lake both played a role in what came to be, and all I’m doing is pointing out some of the things Lake did that was left out in Toon’s comment.
@@basicallytrqsh ur taking this way too seriously bro, calm down lmao

@@basicallytrqsh But the commenter isn't even wrong?
Does that excuse the fact the kid just impersonated his own brother and hid the body absolutely not. But the simple fact is all that could've been avoided if Lucas actually acknowledged the fact what he was doing was not right.
You don't just tell someone you're sorry when you're in danger because chances are you'll just do the same shit again.
the scene in the car dump was great, really made it feel imposing, and that shot in the reflection of the glasses? perfection. Lucas is dead, sure, but that ending made it so much darker.
I bet this will blow up, and if it doesn't it should.
Edit: I'm guessing since this comment has over 1000 likes i was right
I think Lake is dead instead of Lucas. Because at the end we see Lucas toy car in the Lake's packback
@@chiarademichele2000 It could be, but you could also see it as Lake really took Lucas place. Finally getting to be the one who's liked and getting good grades.
@@Linnzy think thats more likely the case
when the car runs the kid over it sped right past someone with a red shirt.Lucas had blue clothes on.And the shadow makes it look like someone with more spiky haircis dragging someone with sleek hair. so its safe to say Lucas is dead and Lake took his place
@@chiarademichele2000 No, I think it indicates that Lake still has and likes his car, but wants to hide it, because he's pretending to be Lucas.
Maybe I'm confusing: Lucas is the red boy with the toy car and Lake is with the glasses? Or is it the opposite?
Edit: I saw the video again, I confused the twins name, sorry everyone
Watched this a year later, I never noticed in the end Lake puts his own missing poster up.
No one cared that he was missing enough to put a poster up.
What I find sad is that Lake turns around after Luca's pleas with a face of pity. He was shocked to see the car hit him. Lake was gonna help Lucas. 3:05-3:14

@@supakat20nah lake is💀
@@supakat20Lucas is dead?
Lake taking on Lucas' life has so much more power to it if you think about it because it's unlikely that anyone would believe him with what happened. Lucas ruined his reputation so thoroughly that everyone would assume it was in some way Lake's fault. In the end, it would be much easier to be Lucas and have the good reputation Lake was always meant to have. It's like a clean slate, a way to finally emerge from the stigma that Lucas fabricated for him.
It is still very sad. They are both kids. They don't know what they are doing. I blame the parents and teacher for not stepping in. As adults they should have seen this getting out of hand.
@@JuMiKu Can't step in if they don't know about it...
@@I_Eat_Lemons The teacher clearly should have noticed that his own brother tattled on him all the time. The parents definitely should have noticed the strained relationship.
It is a parent's job to notice these things.
My goodness when he was walking towards Lucas with the pipe I was scared he was gonna hit him I was like "maybe you're not in a very good position to be saying this stuff"

@@JuMiKu Well, the sad things is that children won't always listen to their parents, and that siblings won't suddenly stop their innapropriate behaviour just because their parents said to do so. Sometimes, it can even take more than just the parents. As for the teacher, she more than likely noticed it but was ignorant about it (Some teachers are like that, I've met some)
The way he said “you wish you were me” right before was AMAZING foreshadowing. The car imagery before the crash was just as good too. I had to keep replaying that scene
Lucas probably wished he was the 'me' he was referring to in that statement, which would add to Lake's point. Both twins were pretending to be that non-existent "Lucas."

Honestly, this chilled me and gave me “there’s a man in the woods” vibes. The fact that Lucas purposely tried to make it out for him to be the hero and only said sorry in his time of need is just insane. Also, I find it odd no one has found Lucas’s body yet, like, did the car come back? Did lake bury him? What happened?

Yeah i saw it as he took his brothers identity because he would be blamed maliciously for the death instead of it being an accident, so if he covers up the death as a missing and taking his brothers identity they would believe actually believe in him and what he says.
what a stupid story
this scares me a lot when the twin dies. Before he sounds like he’s actually sorry and he loves his brother, but his brother think he hates him.
"THAT LUCAS IS A SPY!"
-Any TF2 fan that watches this video
That ending tho
And how flawless that could be. It’s easy to say him and “lake” got into a fight and the other ran away. It’s easy to say that he’s a bit different and has lower grades/stars after his brother’s disappearance because of the stress and change. They lived together and probably even had the same room, so he would know enough about his mannerisms to copy them enough to hide. The only problem might be going to the eye doctor for new glasses if he didn’t need them but his brother did.
Another thing since they are young they have parents how would he hide the truth from them?

Although not my favorite, I found the story... oddly satisfying and new. Most stories of siblings follow a plot where sibling A and B start out rocky, but make up once they put aside their differences. "Twins" has a raw realism that explores how damaged and/or toxic a sibling relationship can become. It's even brave enough to explore a scenario where the relationship (for lack of better words) "dies", as though telling its audience such a thing can happen.
I have chills that is a much darker ending than I thought .
Ikr :(
Agree
Me too. And at the end, that was Lake disguised as Lucas (which no one KNOWS). I feel bad for them both. Though Lucas was a jerk, I feel bad that he died. And I feel bad that Lake was never appreciated.
@@RCSXDV I thought lake is the one who died, this is cursed now.
Same here, I thought it was gonna be more sweet.
That was smart of Lake because everyone knew how he hated his brother, so if he didn't pretend to be his brother, everyone would think Lake had something to do with Lucas disappearance
I have a doubt about who really died if he died because the truth is that the ending is quite unexpected, Literally a work of art made into animation, a pretty cool and at the same time mysterious story
Lake (bullied twin) and Lucas (the twin that bullied Lake) at the end Lake pushes Lucas on the street, he havent noticed the car coming and when was about to help him get up, Lucas died... Getting ran over a car.. Lake burried his body and pretended to be Him
that's actually quite interesting.
i saw around 3 comments about this... and well, really either of the two twins could have been hit.
the car's direction wasn't too clear, either.
it could be Lucas who got hit and Lake took on his identity...
or Lake died because the car might have tried to avoid one kid and hit the other. Lucas might have been hurt in the process yet survived and pretended like nothing really happened.
it could be either but both are tragic.
It could be Lake who actually died and Lucas was so traumatized by the incident he just walked up and pretended nothing about it. I got this theory of Lakes shadow not showing up on 2:47 foreshadowing his disappearance or the fact that he's a nobody
But why would Lucas have Lake's hair?@@meisucksatlife8837
What I really like about this film is the foreshadowing. When Lake appears late to class, he kicks Lucas in the ankle. And the next scene shows Lake running a rock over with his toy car while looking at Lucas, foreshadowing the car running the boy over while Lake isn't paying attention. It was in front of our faces all this time and I was nOT expecting that ending, it was so dark and unique and I love it!
And also when Lake was drawing on his desk it showed Lucas dead
He also adjusts his glasses alot, they even shined a couple of times. Then the last scene, they're broken.
also the owl appears right after lucas gets run over and in some culture owls represent death
That was Lucas's lesson (get hit by a car) because he bully his brother, So Lake hid Lucas's body and pretended to be here
The car that hit Lucas was red, just like the car that Lake always carries around
I like how in the end, while Lake looks like Lucas, his hair is slightly messier, alluding to his original hair. His demeanor is also more calm, indicating how he is still adjusting to being Lucas.
That explains why he has the car I didn't notice that thanks
That explains I was so confused I thought lake got hit by the car and Lucas had the toy car because he kept it as a memory or evidence from the cops
Wow, the amount of subtle clues and hints in this film is just-
I completely misread the ending as the bully surviving and the victim giving his life to save his bully brother. Ok

If he can't win as Lake, why not win as Lucas?
Watching this movie, I thought I was watching it passionately 😂
The ending is so crushing. Besides the fact no one would believe him but there is the underlying feeling that he knows everyone would prefer that outcome. I love their character designs. Usually, the bad guys in stories would be dressed similar as Lake, and the "nerds" (glasses stereotype) would be more preppy, clean, and in a lot of cases, always the victim of some bully of sorts. It's really nice and refreshing change.
True but as of now there's starting to be more and more of this reversed archetype. As people with glasses that dresses overly nice is also often to be shown to have a smug dark side, or is supposed to be the annoying villain, like berdly.

@@dragonmaster9299 that and he’s just a kid. Kids respond to how the adults in their life respond to their antics.
I'm getting chills, that missing poster and how he sneakily closes his backpack with his car toy inside. This is beautifully animated, and the story is truly chilling.
Yes same but still I want the story to continue
Fr I thought the non glasses twin lived and would become good but it’s probably gonna be total opposite
I realized my mistake the glasses twin did die but at the end the non glasses turns into the glasses twin since they’re twins because of the toy car thats why the short film is called “twins”.
This is oddly confusing. To sum it up, the twin with the glasses got hit by the car and the twin without the glasses dressed up pretending to be the twin with the glasses. Since people thought the twin with glasses was still alive, the missing poster shows the twin without glasses who’s gone “missing” because he’s actually pretending to be the twin with glasses who has actually died.
What I saw, was lake carrying luke (if that’s his name I forgot) and then, I thought Lake died because of the car in Luke’s backpack, I’ll look at the backpacks and see.
Edit: I JUST REALIZED THE HAIR AND IVE WATCHED THIS FILM 5 TIMES-
I really want a sequel now
Lake summoned the spirit of his toy car, guy is goated.
Honestly, when the boys entered the broken car field, I thought at some point, LAKE would be the one to get hurt and make Lucas feel bad about everything he's done to him. But OH MY GOD, I was NOT expecting Lucas to die and be replaced by his brother. This took a dark twist and I loved it.
While Lake was holding the pipe I thought for a moment he was going to intentionally kill Lucas, or at least hit him maybe not trying to kill him but end up doing it. I was like, "man, Lucas, really not reading the room when the kid with no reputation and nothing to lose is holding a weapon and you're all alone."
It always feels good knowing some people love and enjoy the death of innocents.
@@mahdiabderraouf5795 yes especially when they’re animated characters that’s my favorite type of death
Holy Jesus I thought the car skidded out of the way and only broke Lucas's glasses, and Lake felt guilty and ran from home.
I kinda expected it... wish it was longer
While the boys are exploring the old car field, an owl makes recurring appearances. Owls are viewed as omens of death, so that's a nice foreshadowing :)
Edit: yes, there are many different animals that are seen as omens of death, owls are just one of them and just so happen to be used in this animation lol

3:50 If you look close enough, you can see it's actually Lake putting up the poster.
Such happy looking animation that looked like “Oh the kid gets over the bully”
Not even four minutes in, it’s changed.
Has anyone noticed that Lake doesn't appear in the reflection of the car window (2:46)? In my opinion, that also symbolizes that Lake doesn't even exist, he's invisible to others, while Lucas is always the twin who has all the attention turned to him. If Lake was the one who died, probably no one would have cared about his disappearance.
Thank you, i was wondering if anyone else noticed that
But lake has a reflection at 1:40
Ooooohhhh....
they literally put up missing posters of lake at the end when he takes on Lucas' identity to hide what happened, at the very least the parents would've cared
I think it's just the way the shot is angled more from Lake's perspective, so we can't see his reflection from the camera is. Cause in every other instance, everyone acknowledges Lake's existence
Lake didn't intend for him to die! You can tell by how surprised he was when the car came. I think he was so scared that he might get in trouble because everyone would've thought he killed him by their relationship, so he pretended to be his brother in the end sense he's the special treated one!
When Lake (at the end when he was impersonating Lucas) said that Lake (of course he was acting that Lake was gone) was late, you could even hear him speaking in a sorrow voice and that he wasn’t joking about it like how Lucas would usually do.
@@lyonidus3073 Exactly! People in the comments were saying they were confused about the story, I'm like.. what's confusing about it? LOL
@@Seanime lake killed his brother, the red car symbolizes that
@@B.bell2k I didn't say he didn't I said he didn't intend for him to die, also he didn't kill his brother the car did. Watch it again! All lake did was push him down to stop him from breaking his car, he was surprised when a car actually did come and run over his brother. Also correct the car does symbolize what happened being as though it was the same exact car that killed Lucas!
I feel like lake intended for him to die or have thoughts of killing lucas. You can see when he’s writing on his desk with his scissors it shows a sketch of lucas getting slashed
Reminds me of what happened with Bulletproof from the Invincible comics. Similar situation with his brother.
3:09 made me so happy help-
Didn’t see many people point it out, but I like how color is used in specific parts of the short, specifically in the junkyard scene and onwards. To understand you need to know that Lucas wears a blue shirt and lake wears a red one. While Lucas lures lake into the junkyard with his toy car, he’s in “control” so the area/surroundings are blue-ish. Contrarily, at 2:54 once lake takes control, the scenery turns red.
I realized this right before I saw the comment 👌🏿
Yeah it really makes it feel like Lake is out of place in the junkyard, until he take control of the situation, where the scene turns red, which depicts a sense of urgency, but also that Lake has the upper hand.
fsr I thought they used that so they wouldn't have to show blood or something lmao but your point is way smarter
Yes!!! And the fade from blue to red between whose hands it's in!!
Fucking love that
The fact that he drags his brothers body with little to no reaction is crazy especially at age 10! Great work
What's more scary is that he's wearing the same clothes Lucas died in, He literally took off the clothes of his brothers mangled broken lifeless body and started wearing it

Wow, this inspires/reminds me about two characters I made who are twin brothers too
3:31 that ending also inspires me😃
whether or not Lucas deserved it, his death was caused by himself, Lake merely foreshadowed it. Lucas was the one to steal the toy car to make Lake follow, he was the one to run into the junkyard and taunt lake into coming with, he was the one to threaten to break lake's car in a fit of anger from just hearing the truth, and he was the one to make his brother hate him, meaning lake didn't have the reason to care about how his brother was hurt. It's entirely fair to blame Lucas, he's the one who built the trap
Karma
That's cruel. Sure, he's a sociopath but he's still a kid. He was begging his brother for help and the boy did nothing. I acknowledge that Lucas would not have done anything either and that the car came speeding out of nowhere and Lake was just as suprised by what happened. It was a tragic accident. For me, the last scene was poignant because I can imagine Lake being haunted by his brother last words- begging him for help.
I think it doesn't matter who survived because, in a way, no one made it out unscathed. And it seems to me like both twins died on that road.
@@horacehalt4216 it is cruel, this is a cruel animation. But im not speaking of feelings, i am speaking of facts. Factually, lucas caused this all to happen. Had he not done any of these steps (destroying his brother's reputation, stealing his car, running to the junkyard, trying to break the car) he would have not been killed. It was Lucas's choices that led to his death.
@@horacehalt4216 I might disagree with your view, but I love that final sentence: “Both twins died on that road that day.”
He fell into the trap he built
I love the framing foreshadowing when Lake and Lucas are fighting on the train tracks, where Lake is “in” the “toy” car for a moment before he pushes Lucas onto the tracks. I also love the intricate camera movements and the amazing lighting as well as palette that really brongs the mood together, the sound design is great too. They both sound so “innocent” in a way that diverts expectation, especially since they are clearly very young looking. I love the palette work and the backgrounds, the animation is really smooth and I cant imagine how long this took. The writing is great, very creative and I love the amount of work put into this. Lake is pretty mischievous (carving into the table and kicking Lucas) but Lucas is very selfish, and both are pretty normal for a kid.
I think it was a street.
Yeah it was a street. I thought it was train tracks too.
Ma’am its ‘brings’
Ps- i like the way you interpreted the entire thing, its actually amazing animation and cinematography!

In some cultures, owls represent death. How fitting that this one was following the boys, as though anticipating which brother would meet his fate... 🦉

I think it's silly how at the beginning of the film, Lake kicks Lucas' ankle but it doesn't do much harm and nearing the end, Lake steps on Lucas' ankle which immobilizes him, causing his death. I think it symbolizes how Lucas pushed Lake to his limit and made his anger grow stronger like how his kick grew stronger.

In the Credits, You can actually see that Lake put up the missing poster of himself. You can see that because the arm that’s shown putting up the poster has a mark on it, the mark is the exact one on Lake’s clothes and the mark is also in the exact location shown. This might mean that nobody actually cares about lake enough to put up the missing poster of him, so he does it himself.
Omg, you're right! I never realised.
That's even darker
It's even sadder, because he is the only one to care enough about himself to at least print these posters. Not his teacher, not his parents, nobody but Lake himself...

This is *beautiful*. For the people saying Lake is a psychopath- no, he is not. That is a disorder and he shows none of the symptoms. In fact, he did not mean for his brother to get hurt. He didn't know the car was there. And after all, if that had been Lake with a hurt ankle, would Lucas have helped him up? If anything, Lucas could be the one diagnosed as a psychopath. He manipulates and has no remorse for what he is doing for his brother.
This short is just amazing. It deserves to be seen. People do not understand how toxic sibling relationships, no matter if there's am age difference or they're twins, can be.
*an, and true
true also I don't think lakes brother got hurt...
@@0Crowns yes he did he got ran over from a car and lake dragged his dead body out of the way
I agree though that idea neglects to mention the fact that Lake might have straight up killed Lucas. The car that runs him over looks identical to Lake’s toy car. It could be a metaphor. In that case I’m pretty sure it’s safe to say that both of them were psychopaths
At first I thought you were talking about Lucas(the little shit with glasses) in the first part and I thought "no way he isn't, and even if its too exaggerative, he is definitely a narcissist" and then I realized you were talking about Lake, the other kid and now I'm like "oh that makes sense"
I actually really liked that little twist, even after all of that bullying he still wanted to help his brother but then karma decided it was enough lol
Yeah. Chilling
Reminds me of a case where a little girl went missing. Turns out she went to a forest with her younger brother, they found a $20 bill, fought over it, and she fell onto a sharp part of a log or something and died. He didn't mean to kill her and panicked, hiding her body and telling no one for years. Really awful stuff, really goes to show how life can change in an instant

Necesitamos segunda parte
Both Lucas and Lake needed child therapy. Lake had so much aggression (for obvious reasons) and didn't have a nondestructive outlet. I don't think Lucas would've given him peace about it either. It's obvious whose the favorite child is and it kind of gives us an idea of what Lake was thinking when he took his twins place. He doesn't want to get into trouble again and with Lucas gone, he won't have to worry about getting into trouble ever again. He knows people prefer Lucas over him so if he disappears, no one will miss him as much as they would miss Lucas. Even if Lake told the truth, no one would believe him due to how everyone labeled Lucas as the good twin and Lake as the bad twin. In his mind, it'll be easier to lie about it. Everything will be easier for him. No twin to torture him, to snitch on him, no one will compare him to anybody again, and he will finally get what he has always wanted.
Lucas on the other hand, despite having people surrounding him and giving him all the positive attention, he's still being compared to his twin. He, in a way, is not his own person. Everywhere he goes, there's Lake not too far behind. He looks down on his twin in shame all while having everyone around him feeding his ego. When someone or a group of people put you on a high pedestal, you forget where you came from and sometimes those who put you there in the first place. Lucas was getting so much praise, he became overconfident in himself and only thought highly of himself. He noticed, on some level, that at the cost of his brother's happiness, he can gained more praise. He would do anything that would benefit himself. Makes you wonder what their home life is like for their lives to be like this at the start of the video.
Even though Lake took over Lucas life, he didn't seem all that confident about it. I doubt anyone would after burying someone who shares the same face as you or a relative. Also, why was the teacher not asking him what happened to him or why he looked so roughed up??? But going back to the incident, it really looked like even though Lake didn't want to, he was about to help his brother up. He was contemplating before turning around. One thing someone brought up in the comments was that Lucas only apologized when he knew he was hurt/in danger. If he was ok, would he still apologize? If the twins positions were switched at the moment, do you think he would've helped Lake? In my opinion, no. He wouldn't apologized but he would most likely help his brother out.
In other words, lake was in desperate need of someone to show him love, and took a chance to get it.
Wym need child theraphy? Lucas is a goner 🥳
