Ah this is so cool! I really can’t wait to (hopefully) study at calarts in a few years too. - Also a huge congrats on getting in! I saw your portfolio and it was truly incredible ☺️
i am living in ukraine but have a big desire to study at calarts. HOW DO YOU HAVE MONEY FOR THAT? as i know, one year in calarts costs around 48 thousand dollars, if you convert that into hryvnas it is 1.300.000)))))))) so imma go and sit and cry.
Thanks for this, I entered residence in the Cal Arts dorm in 1972 in Jules animation program. The two years that I was a student (72-74) were the most "golden" years of my life. I was 25 by that time and had been in the service (Vietnam), worked and done courses at Texas Tech, so my GI bill along with a 2/3's scholarship made it happen. (That was when the full years tuition was 2,700.00).
The landscape around Cal Arts was largely barren hills, no houses, the pool at the dorm was not built, the land was open and one could see the Cal Arts building from far away, from 5 for miles and the towns below. It was like the "Frankenstein Castle". What is the same is the white cinder block walls.
Sky David Thanks for answering! I was always wondering About that. There is one place called The end of the World where you can overview the Desert here,do you remember that?
I think that came just after I graduated in 1974. The campus was so exposed as the trees had not been planted, just barren. the only development was the golf course down the hill, North. In early 1974 hundreds of bulldozers leveled the hills to the east 5 to build the massive housing development. It was done so fast that houses were up by graduation with a line up of buyers. This was vast land holdings of the Newhall Ranch (the Hewhall's were friends of the Disney's). There is one person still teaching a Cal Arts who has been there since its beginnings at the Villa Cabrini campus, Michael Scroggins.
Sky David that’s awesome! My father is a veteran and I’ll be using the GI bill for school as well. I was worried about calarts not giving financial aid to people with a GI bill but your comment helps clear that up. :)
Congratulations into getting into Calarts! This video was really inspirational for me. It's been a dream of mine to go to Calarts since I was in the 6th grade. I would love to get into Calarts when I get older but I am only in the 9th grade and I am literally stressing about it. I would love to keep watching your videos for the expirence you are having there. Just some questions too: 1. Is your schedule busy? 2. Does Calarts accept scholarships? What type? 3. Did you have any second choices of art colleges in the US instead of Calarts? 4. Does your schedule allow you to have part time jobs?
Janimatics hello! Thanks so much :) 1)Yeah the schedule is pretty busy, especially for character animation. All the Kids in other schools say that animation has the tightest schedule, especially with the extra homework. But you learn a lot too! 2)The school does accept scholarships and gives out scholarships too. 3) Yeah I also Applied to Ringling and CCA, I guess it's good to have a Plan B. A lot of my peers had to apply multiple times to get in. 4) Also You can squeeze in a Job next to your courses, bit I would recommend an on Campus Job in the student cafè for example, just so you dont lose much time. I didnt do that in my First year though to fully concentrate on what we learn. And dont be nervous! You still habe plenty of time :)
Congratulations! What a wonderful journey you are embarking on! You are very talented, and I do hope you will bring us along with you on this adventure! Thank you for sharing your first week! Have loads of fun!
