About the layout (just in case the disclaimer at the beginning of the video wasn't enough...): - It is a temporary set-up I use to run my collection of old trains, nothing is screwed down. The rolling stock was made in the 1980s, the tooling is often older, so is the track system. - It is analogue, 16V AC - The locomotives are all analogue -> no motor regulation (bar a few exceptions), no individual speed control - The speed is set centrally in a way that all trains can make the ramp to the elevated section. - Automation is done with relays, stopping is done by cutting power to isolated track sections - a small "Braking" effect before stopping sections is achieved with diodes, this is to avoid trains jumping signals -> things are going fast in places, the stop/departure behaviour is not realistic by today's standards. Running things manually would improve the behaviour, but filming and controlling at the same time would need to become a 2-man operation to make this happen, or need a substantial time investment... This channel is not my day job... If I was interested in realism, I would collect something newer and would install scenery... The point here is to experience the models as one would have when they were new, using the functionality available at the time, with all the flaws it entails.
Excellent video...the Crocodiles ( Swiss and German) are locomotives that is a must-have in all Marklinists collections. Please keep your video's comming. I really enjoy them. Regards from Keith Heuer, Cape Town, South Africa.
Plenty of these on Ebay now, ranging from € 337 (defective and with zinc rot) up to € 1.500. The latter for an original 1950's 3015 (CCS 800) in it's original box. Another 3015 for € 1.200 with box as well... These do go on collector's value of course. Well..., someday. Spectacular distinctive locos these which will be running on our layout as well when the time comes. Thank you so much for this session 💓
Wow, this double traction crocs with a long line of waggons looks fantastic! Good to see that one only also does it up the ramp. And yes, I know the problem with non-DB roll stock, where we may look for some cross border traffic. BR, Anders
This is just fantastic. Like someone already said; great for the sunday morning. You are like a hero without a face. Thanks for these great video's. And yeah, I don't mind (maybe even like) those exposed wires and other "non-perfect" details. The track is great and what is on it is even better. Thanks for all the maintenance and purchases, since we can enjoy the effort.
Hello.... I really liked the layout you build for the video... Is there a blueprint... or perhaps several photos of it.... time to take out my Märklin M out of the boxes! You inspired me. Got pieces back from the 50s... not a purist by the way!!
Hello, an enjoyable video, the Crocodiles are a much loved locomotive type ( inc the similar DRG/DB, and OBB classes ). Question ? what happened to the Guard's Van ? Regards from Australia.
I am not sure if this helps, but on page 26-27 of the 1972 Marklin catalog, what appears to be a 3015 crocodile is shown pulling the 4635 tipping bucket cars. A possible consist suggestion?
don’t know if you are interested but I have 3 boxes of mainly 1950’s Marklin 3 rail trains, coaches, fright wagons etc. none has been run for 40 years. I would like to dispose of it cheaply to a good home. Any ideas

Mission accomplished! Look at the layout 2021 playlist, there are links to trackplans in most video descriptions..

Get the classic 3015 first crocodile. It is worthy.
or the CCS 800? May be one day...

what do you think?
Not sure. Could be scale accurate, or Marklin may have only been trying to encourage sales of the tipping bucket cars.
I think the sale's argument might apply more here 😉 It doesn't really matter now, and certainly didn't then, what matters is to have fun.
Amen for fun. 👍🏻

Best to send an email to the3rdrailchannel@gmail.com, including some pictures to give an overview of what you have and I'll have a look.
