I read this book a few years ago and found it challenging. I had to look up words and re-read paragraphs. Now I’m coming back to it again, after reading several classics this year, and it reads easy like a normal book 🙂 So if anyone thinks they can’t read classics, Keep trying and it will get easier
Christopher Lee is the perfect reader for this very entertaining story, worth listening to, Lee uses dozens of voices in reading this story, He has the pipes!
This makes me miss my grandmother, and this was one of the last things that she helped me read when I was struggling to read, and if it wasn’t for her, I wouldn’t of passed my reading class. She passed away about two years back. Still miss her.
"Hyde would be not even conscious of what he had lost". It's suicide, Jekyll gives up friends and love to avoid guilt and secrecy. Two months of doubling down on repression. And then he gives in. It's fascinating.
Beautifully read by Christopher Lee. I can just imagine Robert Louis Stevenson writing this in the bedroom of his house in Bournemouth and the reading it to his wife, Fanny.
I was listening to this, while reading along on project gutenburg, to help improve my English. I was getting confused on why it kept skipping lines, it took me a while to notice, this was the abridged version. Should have checked the description. But it was nice listen to.
@@maraxussrafhael Hi, well for one, I really wanted to hear it narrated in Christopher Lee's voice haha (which is what I ended up doing then, and it was awesome), and the main reason I didn't just read it is pretty simple: at the time I wrote that comment 8 months ago, I was studying for my BA finals (not sure where you're from, but in my country, there's a huge oral exam to sum up those entire 3 years of study). For its main part, I had to learn about around 150-200 books, ideally read all of them, so I was trying to read as many as I could in a really short time-span. Imagine you spend all day studying (= reading from books or, more frequently, from the computer monitor), morning to night, every day, for weeks... your eyes and your brain get really tired. So that's when audiobooks came to the rescue, haha. Whenever I needed to take a break from the constant reading/studying, I would put on an audiobook, which allowed me to simultaneously relax and keep learning, in a way. So short audiobooks were a blessing. It was intense but I found this system to work pretty well for me. I just did not have the capacity to physically read everything. Btw, in case you're interested to know, I ended up passing the exams :)
@@efoxkitsune9493 I was going to start my previous comment with 'I do not know if it is for a test, but...', haha so my first guess was correct. I 'run' a book club and I read this one in portuguese and in english and now I am listening to it, that is why I told you it is not THAT abridged, at least I could not notcie any change. Concerning the test, I am really glad that you passed, I wish you all the best, for you and your family. God Bless!
It is a shame this is not unabridged. Do you know if C. Lee ever recorded an unabridged version? Magnificent voice and intonation. The ultimate recording :)

Unabridged is non-dramatized, a plainly read versjon of the original text. So i can only guess that this is a full reading, but dramatized, since most dramatized versions are shorter, with more drama and less text. The best answer would probably be found in a Wikipedia article...
@@elvenkind6072 No, unabridged means that it is the complete text, no cuts. I suppose 'full abridged' means that the recording does not present the complete text, but that this posting presents the complete recording.
tbh i was following along with an unabridged version of the text and this was very close, they just took out mid sentence fluff. things like run on figurative language, mostly allusions or added description. it’s not too far off :)

Christopher Lee, Dracula himself is reading Jekyll and Hyde. A match made in horror heaven.
he read several others as well including dracula and frankestien as well as most of edgar allen poes works all found here on youtube

Christopher Lee's reading of this classic novel displays his honed talent of acting.🦇

This classic masterpiece is marvellously performed.

what an absolutely amazing story this is, when read by the master. I enjoyed every second of it.
I had no idea that the legendary Sir Christopher Lee made an audiobook of Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Epic af.
thank you! i need this for my bachelor and for that i have to read it a lot. with this great voice it is much easier for me.
Listening to a chapter before bed since I have promised myself considering this is my last year of high school I should put in effort
Thoroughly enjoyed this. Thank you
I LOVE the voice work on this holy shit, the characters are so lively
Christopher Lee's acting chops and beautiful voice more then made up for the "abridged-ness".
