AND, SIR CHRISTOPHER LEE is the reader??!! Changing his voice as the role of DRACULA, next to the deranged laugh of the original RENFIELD,( Bela Lugosi), SIR CHRISTOPHER LEE does THE BEST Renfield!! 🤣

Dracula is a great book and my favourite part of the novel is the opening chapters when Jonathan Harker is at Castle Dracula. The suspense and tension is absolutely fantastic. I think the opening chapters are the best. I know people will say the early 1990's film adaptation by Francis Ford Copella was very faithful to the book but I thought some of the characters were badly cast. Gary Oldman was superb as Dracula and Anthony Hopkins was great as Van Helsing but should have played him more sombre like in the original novel. However Keanu Reeves as Jonathan Harker and Wyona Rider as Mina were badly cast. I would love to see a new faithful adaptation of the novel where Dracula is actually portrayed as he is described in the novel in terms of all the physicalalities and clothes he wears. I know there is numerous audio books of this great novel but this might sound strange but one of my all time favourite's is a children's version which introduced me to the story. "Ladybird" which does stories for children on cassette back in the 1980's did a wonderful version of Dracula. The actors voices for all the characters were superb and sound effects were great too. It is available on You Tube. I honestly think if these actors read the original novel it would have been ideal. The actor who did Dracula's voice is my all time favourite. The "Talking Classics"(issue 29) series from the mid 1990's do an excellent version of Dracula which is read by the actor Anthony Valentine. Irish radio did an excellent 2 part drama around the centenary of the novel. I remember Christopher Lee stating in an interview that he would love to have played Dracula again but faithful to Bram Stoker. This interview might have been around the time of the Francis Ford Coppela adaptation. I am a huge fan of Bram Stokers who also wrote a great story "The Judges House" which is superbly read by Simon Stanhope on his excellent channel "Bitesized Audio Classics" where he reads ghost stories, mystery thrillers, supernatural and detective stories from the Victorian and Edwardian era's.

The artwork is called "Love and Pain" by Edvard Munch, but it has also been called "The Vampire" in later times. Munch, by the way, is the same artist who did the famous "The Scream" painting. Munch often did multiple versions of his paintings, this one looks to me like the woodcut version, also known as "Vampire 2", because it was second version he produced, out of a total of six, I believe. I could be wrong about the last part though.

There is one heck of a lot missing in this abridged version, but Christopher Lee doing the narration is mind-exploding.
One thing I cannot fathom (even after having read this 2 other times) is what the blue heck is a "bloofer lady"?
The term has no meaning, and I am sorely puzzled each time I hear it. The only explanation I have heard posited is it is a childish corruption of the word "beautiful", but would a newspaper quoting a child not fix its bad English or at least print it like: "bloofer (sic) lady" to denote that the child misspoke?

In making the abridgement, certain events found in the original have been omitted.

Ok, no posters... Christopher Lee read an abridged version of Dracula, and this is that "full audiobook" recording. In another words, the channel didn't omit anything from Lee's dramatic reading and posted the entire abridged version of Dracula. It's not an oxymoron or something grammatically incorrect. At first, I didn't care for the title of this channel, it's quite presumptuous and pompous, but it seems they were right. "iliterati" is Latin for illiterate.

@@maestroclassico5801 Thank you very much for your reply. I must admit that when I saw the trailer for Bram Stokers Dracula back in 1992 I was really excited. After reading the book several times I thought finally someone is going to be faithful to the original novel. I know it was a love story but it was faithful in a lot of places to the original novel. Even Sir Christopher Lee at 70 in 1992 still could have played Dracula in the opening sequences. Remember Dracula is an old man when Jonathan Harker arrives at the castle. Gary Oldman was great as Dracula. As I stated Sir Christopher Lee could have played the count as an old man and Gary Oldman could have obviously played the count as a younger man in the same movie. I was disappointed with some of the cast from the 1992 film. I personally thought Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder were not ideal to play Jonathan and Mina Harker. Sadie Frost was great as Lucy but made her more flirtatious than the Lucy in the novel. Anthony Hopkins was a great choice as Van Helsing but my criticism of Hopkins was that he played Van Helsing a bit over the top and not sombre like in the novel. He still was a great choice for Van Helsing. Some of the scenes in the 1992 film were also a bit stagey in terms of film sets if you get my meaning. When we read a great novel we always automatically think which actors would do justice to the characters in the book. In my opinion a young Jude Law would have been great as Jonathan Harker and a young Kate Beckinsale would be perfect for Mina. Obviously they could not play these characters now. If there was a real faithful version to the book now who would you like to play the main characters? From watching the "Underworld" series I think Bill Nighy would be good to play the older Dracula at the start of the film and obviously a younger actor to play the younger Dracula. Ian Mckellen a few years ago could play an old Dracula but he could still do it I think even now. Do you know what I could see Ian Mckellen being also ideal for Van Helsing. He can play both good guy's and bad guy's as he proved in Lord of the Rings and X-Men respectively. Other candidates for Van Helsing would be Jeremy Irons. In an ideal world I would like to see English actors portray English characters. Johnny Depp despite being American might have made a good Jonathan Harker when he was younger if you go by his performance in Sleepy Hollow. Ben Kingsley might make a good Van Helsing. A friend of mine thinks Daniel Radcliffe(from Harry Potter) might be good as Jonathan Harker judging by his performance in the horror classic "The Woman in White". I must admit I am finding it difficult to come up with a cast! Maybe something like a 3 part TV series might be better than a movie in terms of more substance at being faithful to the novel. What did you think of Kenneth Branagh's version of Frankenstein? Once again thank you for your reply.

@@johnroche7541 YES Sir Anthony was a bit over the top as Dr VH. I consider Gary Oldman to be one of the 5 greatest living actors...so he sold me on Drac....but I still would have loved to see Sir Christopher have a crack...at a romantic DRAC (rhyme!). Winona pulled off an adequate Brit accent (unlike Keanu) and was already an AMAZING actress. Johnny Depp is pretty good with accents and would have been better than Keanu but Francis FC probably didn't want to pair Johnny with Winona again so soon after Edward Scissorhands (would overshadow Gary and Sir Anthony). Have you ever seen Werner Herzog's 1979 NOSFERATU, THE VAMPIRE? It's very underrated. And as for Kenneth Branagh's Frankenstein....it was ok....Branagh AND Deniro were over the top a bit.....The expectations were a tad too high I think!

..... So is Amazon messing up books? I bought Bram stoker's Dracula and I started reading it then found this, and thought it would be good to read along with Sir Lee, but my books has a lot more than what he read in the beginning and I couldn't find the next part. Did he skip useless parts or did Amazon just add filler? Are they fucking with me specifically?

This version read by Sir Christopher Lee is an abridged version(the highlights of the novel are only featured) which is not the whole book. Most audiobooks are abridged versions of novels but some audiobooks are unabridged versions(the whole book word for word).

'Sir Christopher', not 'Sir Lee'. Maybe counter-intuitive, but it's the first name that gets used in this way.

@@Cornholio174 Thank you for your reply. Do you mean if there is an abridged version of the novel "Dracula" which corresponds with what Sir Christopher Lee is reading in book form? Sorry there is not. All books and novels are published in their entirety. When famous books and novels are adapted for audiobooks they are usually abridged but there is audiobook versions of the full novel. The English actor Clive Owen for example reads the entire novel "Dracula" for a well established audiobook company. Dracula is a great novel. However for me the opening chapters are the best when you have the Count playing a cat and mouse game with Jonathan Harker. The tension and atmosphere is brilliant. I think the novel loses something when the pace picks up but that is my opinion. There was a company called "Talking Classics" which brought the great works of literature to life in the mid 1990's. Issue 29 of this series is Dracula and this abridged version is read by the English actor Anthony Valentine. I would highly recommend it. There was a company in the UK called "Ladybird" which did children's versions in the 1980's( on cassette) of the great novels of literature including Dracula. It is available to hear on You Tube. Dont be put off because it is a children's version as the voices and sound effects are brilliant. Bram Stoker was Irish and I know in Ireland that there was a two part radio drama of the novel for the centenary of the publication of the novel. Dracula stands head and shoulders above all the vampire novels. I never rated the "Twilight" novels or film franchise. Another great vampire novel to read is "Salems Lot" by Stephen King. There has been two film versions(one from the 1970's and one from the 2000's) of this novel and to be honest none of them do justice to the book. However the BBC did a fantastic version adopted for radio and is also available on You Tube. Stephen King wrote another short vampire story called "The Nightflyer" and is pretty good. There is an excellent radio adaptation and is available to hear on You Tube. There was also a film version which in my opinion was just ok. Bram Stoker the author of Dracula also wrote some short stories. The best of these is the "Judges House" which is available to hear on the "Bitesized Audio" You Tube channel which is dedicated to horror, detective and mystery stories. Bram Stoker also wrote a short story called "Draculas Guest" and Stoker scholars are divided as some think it was originally meant to be one of the opening chapters of the novel "Dracula" and others think it is an independent short story in it's own right. Check out the You Tube channel "Horror Babble". Hope all this is useful.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
This life isn't all there is, heaven and hell are very real but Jesus Christ loves you and can save you, and you can find out today. If you will ask Jesus Christ with a genuine heart to please forgive all your sins, and come into your heart and please save you, he will save you and you will soon know how real he is. God bless.
