It would have been interesting to try active villager defense systems, where a system of traps outside the walls (arrow/fire charge dispensers, whatever) are activated by observers attached to a village bell. When a raid occurs, the villagers scurry over to ring the bell and activate the traps. And if the observer isn't able to detect the bell ringing, then perhaps a sculk sensor would work to detect the bell ringing.

I made a wall around my village and redesigned the roads, as well as making some multi-story buildings. I played around with doors and pressure plates, and made the village well-lit.
If villagers could do redstone, they would invent some kind of hyperefficient villager killing device. We all know they're really good at finding the most efficient way to off themselves en masse. It wouldn't be too long until they industrialized the practice

"They're not exactly the wisest bunch." I made a pretty small area for my animals (food) in survival. It was fence so that they couldn't escape. Villagers were able to get in because of a block outside that allowed them to fall in. 4 or 5 of them fell in repeatedly. And couldn't get out through the fence gates. So I let them out. They went back in 2 minutes later
I once stayed in a village for a while and a 90% of the villager population ended up inside the cow pen. I realized that was the best way to keep them safe from zombies in lieu of torching the whole place so I got rid of any escape route they could use. (That said, they're a bunch of assholes who refuse to leave when I make a new building for them to get a job in. The COWS will try to escape before they do. Goddamn villagers)

To answer your question.. yes I do use beetroot in Minecraft whenever I can find it. I look for it as much as I can.

I made a pretty small area for my animals (food) in survival. It was fence so that they couldn't escape. Villagers were able to get in because of a block outside that allowed them to fall in. 4 or 5 of them fell in repeatedly. And couldn't get out through the fence gates. So I let them out. They went back in 2 minutes later
I once stayed in a village for a while and a 90% of the villager population ended up inside the cow pen.
I realized that was the best way to keep them safe from zombies in lieu of torching the whole place so I got rid of any escape route they could use.
(That said, they're a bunch of assholes who refuse to leave when I make a new building for them to get a job in. The COWS will try to escape before they do. Goddamn villagers)
