Cheap vs. Expensive Wireless Mic for iPhone: DJI vs Maybesta Sound Quality Test
Вставка
- Опубліковано 25 тра 2023
- In this video I test out the differences between one of the cheapest wireless mics on Amazon made by Maybesta and a professional quality wireless microphone by DJI. While the Maybesta mic does have a lot of sound isolation, the amount of clipping and wireless interference makes it unreliable. The DJI is easy to use and offers much better sound clarity and consistency. This is definitely a case of you get what you pay for. Hopefully this helps if you're searching for a good quality mic to use with your iPhone. This video was not sponsored. I purchased both of these microphones to test out for myself and will be using the DJI mic for my own creator content. You can check out both of these mics using the links below.

If everyone did comparison videos like this the world would be a much smarter place.
Usually I’d be 1:34 into a video and I’ve only heard them talk about them selves and seen their intro.
1:34 in and i already know what I want to buy. I salute you sir
Haha
Yes. Right zo the point without intros, gimmicks, "trying to be a Tv Channel"
This is the most straight forward video explanation test. No bs at all.
For real
This is one of the most helpful videos I've seen today. I was looking to buy the Maybesta but not now with that sound quality. Thank You.
You know this is an excellent video product and can tell a lot of effort went into it. It’s straight forward and to the point, no corny inbetween music or extra un needed junk. Very well put together and thanks for sharing.
This is a great test! I really like how natural the DJI system sounds. Yes, it picks up the background noise, but it doesn't excessively alter and process the sound like the cheap alternative does, and it really captures your voice effectively for a wireless system that plugs directly into the iPhone (or other smartphone). Thanks for sharing the video!
best video I’ve found on this topic. straight to the point with real examples
Straight forward comparison and review. Really appreciated it! Thanks!!
Thank you for this review, I was expecting to DJ to do a little bit better with blocking background wind noise. The cheap microphone does a lot better job of that. But the overall quality is just a lot better for DJI
Straight forward and practical situations to demonstrate the product.
I'm not having to be distracted by people being hand models and constantly checking themselves out in the recording.
Thanks for just getting to the point.
Thanks for this video, getting the maybesta for now. Definitely plan to splurge later on
Props on the grass. Looks good.
Thank you SO much for how you recorded this video. Very informative!
thank you for this review
Good review, and helpful. Thanks
Love the video. Straight to the point and what I needed to know. And yeah I would actually get both. The cheap ones would be an excellent backup. Those things are SO easy to lose.
You can accidentally swallow them as well....
Good video. Short, right to the point. Good job comparing the built in phone mic, vs the cheap lavalier, and the name brand "you get what you pay for" mic.
What I got out of this video is that you have a really nice lawn. Also, for $20 the Maybesta does everything I need it to do. 😊
You got us to buy the DJI! Used your link too;) thanks for this video!
Great video man, you applied realistic situations
Really appreciate all the work that went into this, it was really useful!
Something unexpected I got out of your testing is just how noisy cars really are 😅
So helpful! Thank you!
Great test. I heard the DJI clipping though as well, during the car test, at 02:14 "sounds" and 02:15 "passing by".
I heard this as well
awesome comparison, thanks!
Very nice review. I have a wireless mic that does a lot of "Clipping" so its nice to see others do that as well and to stay away from them.
THank you for the video, very helpful.
straight to the point. Thank you.
Greatly appreciate the side-by-side with multiple environment examples. I've been looking for a wireless lav mic for my iPhone. First $25 one on Amazon didn't work out of the box and I got a refund. As you said, you get what you pay for. Audio quality is important!
Awesome video!!
Very useful
Definitely the DJI for the win
Love the video! Thank you
Great job, man !!!!
the maybesta sounded way better on my end. Great vid!!
Sounds even worse in person, I regret buying it-sounds even worse than my built-in Google Pixel 4a mic.
great review
Great video. I think I will use ypur link right now for the DJI
Great vid
Thanks
This is great! Thank you
Thank you for the review... I already own the DJI, but was looking for an inexpensive alternative for my wife...so she won't keep borrowing mine. Just as a side note the "popping" is not clipping (which is when the audio waveform is cut off because it exceeds the input circuit recording level). What you're hearing is a dropout, where the transmission/reception is interrupted. Both are terms with specific meaning in the audio world, so it's best to identify them correctly.
Thanks for the clarification. Glad the video helped for comparison.
Video really helped me confirm my purchase of the cheaper version ! I also loved the vid so. Much and subb3 to u
ye the cheaper one does a better job.. he may have emi in his area
Great review. I helped convince to spend the money on a decent wireless mic rather than a cheap one.
Veryry good video. The Maybesta is really not that bad!
It seems like the Maybesta did the job too.
this dude has a great backyard. The grass is so green!
Thank you Tony
Beautiful lawns!
Great vid
This is totally off topic but your lawn is beautiful my guy 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
Thanks. 👍🏻
The Maybesta did really well.👍
Great review
While using the 2 different wireless mics is there a way to monitor the audio from the videographers standing point when shooting at such a far/farther distance?
Thank you
Great Video. 💯💯 Sounds like the Maybesta is the best one. Especially the noise cancellation. Ouch. What do the the dj ones do so great if they don’t even sound the best ? They must have some wonderful feature
Careful! The Maybesta may sound more bright and crisp, but In normal conversational speech the DJI will wound more warm and natural. And in the end it will also give you more body in the recordign to play around with and EQ later. Except that we have to PAY for the DJI!
Not that much in Quality infact. Thanks for this great testing video
Good testing in the cheap mic. It’s good for its price I guess.
I never heard the Maybesta popping sounds
Me too
I did not hear it too!
He wants you to use his affiliate link to purchase the $160 mic over the $20 mic. That’s all.
I've heard it a couple of time. But the DJI noise cancel is bullshit
Exactly. He just want you to use his link
quality stuff m8
Audacity has a pop / click removal function. What I hear as a music maker, has more to do with the EQ / tone each mic produces. DJI is more natural sounding by far. Interestingly, I've watched females demo cheap mics and they sound better than when a man uses them suggesting the mics have a lot of bass rolloff.
0:53 dead cat 😂😂😂😂 never knew that’s what they called it.
Yep 😂
@@Type5Reviewsso I wanna do UA-cam vids where I’m the host and I’m interviewing multiple people but I will be using iPhones to shoot the recording into switcher studio. You still recommend the Dji mic?
Probably depends on how many people you are interviewing at a time. Having the 2 DJI mics is very easy for one on one style interviews and do think these would work great for that type of format. If you have more than one person you may have to pass the mic around or use the included magnet backer to mount it between the two people and adjust the gain accordingly. But for the money I still think it’s a great option. I’d personally even consider the new DJI mic 2 for its improved noise cancellation, but I still think the original DJI mic has a natural sound approach to noise cancelling and works well. Rode and Shure also make great iPhone mics to look at if you want the portability. But if you’re looking for more of a podcasting format where you sit down with guests you would get even better sound quality with something like a Shure sm7b or mv7, but that would require a lot larger setup without the phones, etc.
Thank you for testing these mics. Very imformative.
3:18 I would love to hear, how the dji mic would pick up the voice if you walk away from it to compare it with the iphone mic.
Good video. Do you have a mic to suggest for those of us who speak loud AF?
What about for digital cameras ?
How to connect dji mic to iphone. Is it just thru bluetooth? Or does iphone need some sort of transmitter (i have lightning contact, Iphone 12)
Which one is best if I want to capture the sounds of nature, sheep, chickens, rain, streams and brooks?
$25 vs $250... Yes the DJI sounds better, but not 10x in my opinion. The Maybesta sounds fine. 80% of the performance at a 1/10 of the price. I'm taking the Maybesta.
Idk. I personally hear an enormous difference, mostly in clarity and sheer quality. And to be honest in a lot of cases the Maybesta actually sounds worse than the default iPhone microphone, with the only benefit of the maybesta being you can walk a lot further (which is nice, don’t get me wrong) but aside from that very specific situation, I’d either splurge for the DJI, netting you both a massive increase in sound quality and an increase in range, or save the 25 bucks and use the iPhone microphone if I don’t find myself needing to walk far away from my phone.
DJI all the way! The Maybesta sounds like a phone call from 20 years ago…for indoor stuff tho, the iPhone’s internal mic is pretty damn good
@@GutsmanLoLyeah
Good luck. The second you move around with the Maybesta the clipping and popping is very noticeable.
Fully agree with your opinion 👍🍁
DJI mic for sure
But i noticed using the mic it kill the background sound like birds and things, how to get both plus my talk?
Hello, this set will be work with DJI osmo action 3 camera?
I bought the cheaper version and it doesnt have any gain control. It fuzzes out if youre a loud talker. Might have to return.
You did not show what the DJI is like with the noise cancellation switch on or off. Or you just did not mention if you had the DJI cancellation on or off when comparing to the Maybesta.
I just bought the unpronounceable "Sjpzwcrl Wireless Lavalier Microphone" for around $50 (CDN, with 15% taxes!) but, as a former recording engineer used to Shure SM-57s was **HORRIFIED** by the intense compression/clipping (meaning that any sound would have an audible "padding" effect at either end of it effectively muffling any background sounds very unnaturally, so I was looking for something that I can at least manipulate in post-production in iMovie (I don't have FinalCutPro, which I think is overkill for casual videos) but this was a great demo of these microphones .
I'm now going to check out the prices of the DJI but I already fear it's going to be in the hundreds . . . oh well, the "Sjpzwcrl" (where DO these people come up with these names? I mean, they're Chinese, I know, but "Sjpzwcrl"???) is going back to Amazon TODAY. Thanks for the great video!!
Quick question for clarification. On the outdoor footage where the cheap mic was getting clipping or pop or whatever, was the noise canceling turned on or off?
The noise cancellation cannot be turned off on the cheap microphones. It is built in with no adjustable settings.
Thanks for the video. I'd say thanks by mowing your yard but cripes.... Quite a yard.
bro do you think this microphone can work on laptop with type-C port?
MayBesta has better noise cancelling right?
What receiver do you have paired with the DJI Mic?
The non name brand dual mics I’ve been using worked great UNTIL I installed the new iOS 17.0.3 software
May I ask, is this the Mic that comes with the DJI Osmo pocket 2 ?? If so how did you connect that Mic to your iPhone? I know the newest one does but I can’t figure out how to make the previous generation Mic connect. Any advice?
Sorry but it’s not the same mic. This version comes with a receiver that has an adapter for the iPhone. The mic with the Osmo doesn’t have that separate receiver.
Dji sounds more natural, but the maybesta sounds a lot cleaner except for the clipping
Not my experience at all-cheap and dated sounding and will pop and clip the second you move around.
How does the receiver connect to your iPhone? Does the receiver (being connected to you iPhone) cause issues with your gimbal stability?
The receiver plugs in and stays in place though the lightning connector on the iPhone. And good question on the gimbal use, but unfortunately I don’t use a gimbal, just tripod stands, so I can say to that effect. Seeing however that DJI makes gimbals, I’m sure they accounted for that when designing the receiver. Realistically the receiver weighs almost nothing compared to the weight of the iPhone with a case on it.
What about Boya by-v2 for beginners?
Listening on the laptop, the cheaper mic sounded clearer. I didn't hear any popping noises at all. Considering you could get 8 of those for the price of the DJI, I can't see for one minute how you'd recommend anyone to go for the DJI
With each mic, were you transmitting to its receiver (plugged into phone) or directly to Bluetooth on the phone?
Wait. You were using DJI Mic not DJI mic 2, so no Bluetooth on that one.
The popping noise wasn’t really bad the maybesta wasn’t really bad at all even at the AC unit it blocked that noice out more then the dji
I have the Maybesta and I would say it’s generally early usable in situations where sound frequency isn’t matching. Meaning, if you have people talking in the background, it will pick up everything as if it’s you. If you’re in a situation where it’s a higher or lower frequency than general human voice… It generally does a good job. The only problem is, the sound quality is horrible. To me, it doesn’t transfer any of the lower end of the human voice and I think that’s important when you’re making higher quality videos.
The Mayabesta mic sounds like you’re talking through a tin can. With limited frequency range. Definitely not for anybody who wants to make quality videos with good audio. There are other options that have tested better and are cheaper than the DJI mic. Like the Hollyland Lark 150. Which is about $200. Saving $100 or so.
Never heard any pops! Seems like the cheap mic is the bes overall. Has the best noise cancelling.
You are outside but their is nl background noise. How?
hi, can you edit the video with the sound from the mic (sync somehow?) on your iphone video editing app?
When the microphone receiver is plugged into the iPhone when you record it records audio from the DJI microphone for the video, so there is no need to sync the audio to the video.
Thanks :) that’s perfect
The DJI microphone did not cancel the noise at all, that's a huge fail for me! The cheap mic actually did a better job at canceling noise. I'd go with the Maybesta or keep looking for a different mic, I'm partial to Rode!
Where you live looks absolutely lush and eh the sunshine, OMG, in England it just rains all the time now.....
I didn’t hear the popping sound but the dji does sound clearer.
Great review 👏 wish the DJI had better noise cancelation
The DJI will have many settings to play with to get the sound just right.
So I have a gaming channel and I'm using my cell phone to record on my emulators. I recently got the Razr Kishi 2 as a controller, (highly recommend it). The issue is that the controller already uses USB port so I need a microphone that doesn't use it. This way I can have commentary on the videos. Does anyone have suggestions?
My first thought is possibly using a Bluetooth headset with a built in mic to record the audio. The only issues though are potentially needing to use an additional recording app that would support Bluetooth recording since the iPhone built in recorder only wants the built in mic as an option. You’d also have to watch out for latency (or lag) between the audio and video if using Bluetooth….Using the lightning port for a better mic and then switching to an Xbox controller connected via Bluetooth would work too, but that eliminates the Razr. Good luck with finding a solution.
@@Type5Reviews thanks for replying. I'm actually using an android and the emulator (myboyfree) has a record option already. I can technically record audio right now but the sound quality is terrible, my voice is muffled. I'll look into headsets for sure though.
Can you turn off the noise canceling on the Maybesta?
Nope. There are no adjustable settings. Everything is built in and standardised.
What iphone are you talking about?
i didnt hear any popping
DJI sounds the best!
how you doing?. omg~ professional upload, talk to you soon. dear~💯
The DJI is the obvious best choice but honestly the Maybesta isn't horrible for the price
I’m getting popping/cracking in the mic when my voice level goes up or pitch increases. I don’t think I have the mic too close. Any suggestions?
I stopped using the maybesta because of the popping sound. If you have that mic then I would invest in something better like the DJI. If the DJI is popping on you, you may want to turn down the gain on the mic as it could be clipping.
@@Type5Reviews that may have to be a future investment.
Maybesta is the best
