  • This is a huge kit of this Capital Ship. The Hood was the largest and fastest of the Capital ships. And was also highly regarded as one of the most handsome Capital ships in the world. she was paid down on the first of September 1916. The Hood was also one of the few Capital ships in the navy without any aircraft. Her main armament consisted of 8 15inch four twin MK 'll mountings. There where also around 15 various types of ships boats.
The Hood was sunk in action with the German Battleship Bismarck on 24th May 1941 with a huge loss of life. Only three of the 1,419 crew survived.
The kit itself consists of 1,490 plastic parts on 17 sprues. The hull is one piece with four large deck sections. And is 1,388mm in length.there are also 7 frets of photo etch. It will pay to invest in one of the Aftermarket detail kits which will help to produce a highly detailed model of this great ship.there are quite a few area's that are not correct and they would benefit from some scratch building. The colour readout from Trumpeter is wrong for the hull. The Hood never had a red antifowling bottom It was Grey antifowling. I will base the colours on the colour scheme on the Hood appreciation website which is up to date. The model and aftermarket kit are not cheap. Add all the paints, glues and other building accessories and you can easily pay over a £1000. It could be built out of the box but will look better for the investment in the Aftermarket kit.

    A bit about me,
My name is Paul. I am now retired and have recently turned 70. I started building plastic models way back in the 60s when I was given a model of the Wolf man for my Birthday due to my love of the old horror movies. I ended up building all the monster kits. Having enjoyed the Hobby so much I then moved on to model aircraft, mostly from Airfix. Eventually moving on to model ships, which I found far more interesting to build. Over the years I have built a number of plastic model ships. And also some wooden models. I am currently working on the 1\250 wooden model of Titanic from Amati models.

Thank you, it is a excellent looking kit. Hoping to get one of the aftermarket kits to enhance the model.
