Remarkable little cruisers. I can see why they're so popular. Best demo of a lug rig setup I've ever seen. I have the rather odd habit of modifying Grumman canoes into "expedition" type trimarans. I just sewed up a lug kit and got it on the boat today. First lug sail I've ever had, so, thank you. There's not a lot of complete walk-throughs out there despite the many vids of luggers being used. Tomorrow, I'll be installing my lazyjacks. I got spoiled using them on my last three canoes with a gunter rig. Can't really reef one of those without lazyjacks. Epic wrestling match without them.
That was the best tutorial I have seen on a lug-rig sail. It was easy to follow and understand. (Even I could:) I have just built a GIS and hope to launch her in the spring . Thank you very much from a senior Kiwi, regards John.
Great video! Very informative and very well narrated! I am putting together my own balanced lug rig and this greatly helped me in understanding the various controls and rigging!
Great instructive video, and it looks like the wee boat has some great features. The lug sail rig seems unusual (to me) when compared to many other similar sized boats. Do you know the reasons why that option was chosen? Just curious. Thanks
All rigs have trade offs. The lug has some key advantages being - great size for the mast height, shorter mast, very easy to reef, no kicking strap, can be eased by the downhall, amazing down wind as it 'gull wings' across the mast, and critically Gangsta Az when you cruise into a bay. Many of the advantages of a Chinese Junk rig with simplier rigging.
Everything's big in America, does everybody own such a huge park and a house, in America? Why not? There is sooooo much space, and hardly any Americans!
Sure, a Sunfish is faster. He was ready to raise the main at 14 minutes while taking time to explain everything. If you practice a couple times I'm sure you can rig it in 10 minutes or less.
Excellent little sailboat and a great tutorial for anyone wanting to set up a balanced lug sail.
Thanks 👍
Glad it was helpful!
excellent tutorial. I've had my own SCAMP 5 seasons. I STILL managed to learn a lot. Thanks.
That is high praise, thank you!
SUPER! It has been years since I sailed a Scamp, and this was a wonderful re-introduction to the basics.
Glad you found it helpful!
you are a good teacher, you speak the way I like to hear it
Thank you! 😃

Thanks for the great feedback, happy we could offer some valuable guidance!

Great presentation Falk👏👍😊
Falk, terrific job with the video. Thanks!

Great job with the video... I especially appreciate the reefing instructions!
Very well explained.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video thanks got a little sail boat to but build it myself. But if i could afford a scamp I'd buy one for sure !
Right on, building your own sailboat is a rewarding project!
Interesting boat I prefer the roller boom , rudder look would be handy
Beautiful boat, insane price.
It takes us about 6 weeks to build one of these start to finish, so it is what it is!
merci

I want one!
That can be arranged! :)

The fact you need a reef for a 12 foot boat is sad.
It is definitely not the easiest or fastest boat to rig.
Yes, I absolutely abhor the sail setup. For a boat that small the rigging should be far, far easier.

I’ll take the cat rigged thanks Go loose footed and you have none of that. That’s too much stuff
I come back to look at this boat now and then. The rigging situation seems a headache. I'd toss the lazy jacks into the sea.
