Who is at fault in this scenario? The Boat or the Kayaker? Also, do you think the dive flag saved his life?
There's a time and a place for everything. Kayaking in a busy inlet probably isn't the right place - even if you feel that you have the right of way.
Boat was far out of his lane and was not aware of his surroundings
Boat at fault. Overtook on the left up to the seawall. Should go to the right on the waterway.
All I can say is that kayaks are hard to see. They are silent. They need to be the ones to get out of the way.
The water has its own rules. Getting into a kayak on open waters is a super dangerous thing even if you don't realize that danger. Keep them in rivers and lakes because to a 50' vessel you don't even exist.
why does that fuck drive around with a dive flag mounted? should be pulled of his boat and made sense to
Kayaking in that canal is like skateboarding in the middle of the Grand Central Parkway. If the current and waves don’t get you, the over stimulated boaters navigating the hellish waterway will.
Exactly, half of the people showing off their quads for the cameras, the other half are drunk. Last place I'd try to paddle. That doesn't absolve the boat captain from his reckless disregard though.
I made the mistake of trying to cross the main body of lake Minnetonka in a kayak and it felt like a game of frogger with drunk semi drivers. Sometimes you have a close call like this that reiterates how small you are.
It's nothing like it. Skate boarding on GCP is illegal. The waves weren't getting him but some a-hole wake was, He has better control over that kayak than the person does of the boat. Look how long it took for the person to react after the passenger pointed out the kayak. The guy driving is more worried about chatting up the girls and he wasn't even watching. He was also sitting down and can't see over bow because of it. He has no business behind the wheel
@@brinkee7674 That all may be true, but the odds of getting hit by a boater in that canal on that day, While kayaking, are similar to a skateboarder getting run over while skateboarding on a busy highway, regardless of the legality. I’m not disagreeing with your disposition. Most boaters lack the coordination and or experience to ensure safety, which is why I prefer to head out during the week, and not weekends. As a boater, I’ve had many close calls, with other boaters who were preoccupied with something other than the water in front of them.
@nomenclature9607victim blaming is wild
No... this is like someone passing another car with someone in the oncoming lane running them off the road and giving them the finger cuz they shouldn't have been there in the first place? God theres a lot of losers in this comment section
Notice how the other boats are going in one at a time and not being an impatient person who almost killed a person.
I wouldn’t kayak out that pass but… to each his own
A perfect storm of an irresponsible boat operator, and a kayaker who needs to pick his spots better. I am an avid kayak angler, and I can't fathom why any kayakers would be using this inlet.
Because of the challenge?
Stupidity comes to mind !
@@Teochewtuahang not with the volume and SIZE of watercraft that use that inlet, ignorant ass has a death wish !
ditto!
the same reason bicycler's ride on roads. ignorance. plain ignorance. boater has right of way.
Kayakers choices aside, I think a lot of you are forgetting the rules of boating, that the Grady needed to make way for him
Grady obviously didnt see the. tiny 8x8 flag
Should have gone back for sure . That captain was more concerned with passing the other boat then paying attention to the waterways
I simply cannot imagine trying to run this, or any other inlet SITTING DOWN behind the dashboard like Captain Casual here.
If there ever was a time to be at your 100% most "on it", this is that time. ANYTHING can happen.
I’m glad the guy didn’t get hit. It was bad enough getting slapped up against that wall. As a longtime user of kayaks, I firmly believe you need to pick the spots that aren’t super dangerous for using those things.
Telling me I can't drive my lowrider because you can't see it because you are in a jacked up 4×4 that henders vision too is not right 🤷🤔
@@spankthemonkey3437 well, depends on the state, it’s illegal in mine to have a lowered vehicle, but you’re allowed 40 inch tires.
@@smelltheglove2038 goes to show the biased views on different types of vehicles, but let's just agree to ban the squatted trucks 🤷😆
@@smelltheglove2038lmfao what state bans "lowered cars" so you're telling me most super cars can't drive on roads in that state? That makes 0 sense
@@jlo7770 Virginia. It’s not that you can’t lower a vehicle, it’s that you can’t lower it beyond a certain threshold. Most supercars are made to be “street legal” though some aren’t and therefore not legal to drive on public streets. I think the Senna is such a model. It’s even marketed as “track only”.
hes gonna need a taller flag pole
Shouldn’t need one at all.
@@robsinHLyou obviously know nothing about boats
Kayaker? He's playing Frogger in the inlet.
That's like riding your bike on the interstate in the middle lane with cars going past you at 80mph. Good luck with that.
Except it's illegal for cyclists to ride on an interstate, it's not illegal for kayakers to be on navigable waterways.
@cup_and_cone while that is true, it's not very smart to be in that position. A place where boats have to pass at power or full power. But people want to play in the street and then cry when they get hit. He put himself in danger. Been through there many times and only a fool would try to kayak through there. Natual selection.
We use flags on the smaller ATV’s and SXS at our Monster Truck events to help us see them too. Those flags have saved many from a mishap. Got my life jacket on and tuned in to see what’s going on at the Inlet.
More boat than brains
That seems to be the standard these days. Unfortunately you do not need any licence to operate these private boats although in at least some places you do need a very very basic training class/certificate. I got mine some 40ish years ago.
You must be talking about the kayaker that was stupidly in all that boat traffic.
Boater definitely should have gone back,. No the kayaker didn't REALLY belong there but he had a right to be there. Kayaker was obviously on way back to his dock or home/truck but non-powered ( row boat, sail boat, etc) has right of way over any powered boat.
I can't understand why a kayaker would be on the inlet. It's utterly insane to take a kayak on this inlet. It's just asking for trouble.
Well if you don’t think he should not be in the inlet I suggest you look up maritime law the maker has every right it’s the twat in the motor boat that needs to get a kick up the arse
Unless that captain is a dwarf, the POS couldn't be bothered to stand up while navigating the inlet.
To me that kayaker is assuming a huge risk, in that narrow, heavily-trafficked channel.
Agree. He’s that guy on the bike that’s holding up rush hour traffic and thinks everyone else is wrong for being peeved.
Well just so you understand this. In that exact place there is only one way in and one way out for boats that are not full sized ships. It is very common for kayaks to be out there and people are normally very considerate and generally try and to keep an eye on them and some will even load a kayak up for you if it's a windy day and some what rough out.
Kind of glad the cop was there but not at the same time. It is a very bad spot to be doing jumping into the water just because of the amount of traffic that area sees everyday but still a fun place to jump in.
Don't paddle down the middle of an inlet, he is a rookie who learned a valuable lesson.
That kayaked was no where near the middle of the canal. The wake from the IDIOT who was running the power boat slammed the kayaked into the sea wall. Pay attention.
Was thinking the same thing. He should have seen that coming
regardless of who is at fault, the boat should have returned to make sure the kayaker was ok. Even though he was crossing the path of the boats in the channel.
they should have gone back to say sorry.... but a few seconds later they have the audacity to wave at your camera, so it means they didn't give it a second thought to the man's life. They DIDN'T CARE.
In that current I wouldn’t go back either
They clearly stopped after the incident.
Who they? Only one person at the helm
You’re an arrogant hypocrite - with quick to judge issues - get real
Wer soll sich hier entschuldigen der Kajakfahrer kann froh sein dass er überlebt hat dieser Volldepp außerdem haben die Weiber die Passagiere nichts mitbekommen
Glad the Kayaker was ok.
As a boater, I would have made darn sure the kayaker was ok.
As someone who’s dreams of a boat. I love this channel
Grind hard bro just bought my starter boat. A 22 foot walkaround Angler fully spec-ed out. In two years maybe 1 I’ll be ready for a 282 sailfish Grady white.
Great video, thanks for sharing!
Yes, they should have gone back as a courtesy. Looks like city streets driving.
Personally I'd have gone back to insure Kayaker was Okay , looked like he almost got slammed into the Wall.
They didn't even stop after they almost ran over him. Low down!
Kayaking thru boynton inlet is Like walking in the middle of the interstate
Damn, the beginning of this video was straight out of Miami Vice. No drugs, but cool music and plenty of drama.
Mystery boat#2 is an Aquasport 175 from late 80's
Once it's over and the guy's ok, probably doesn't matter much if you go back other than you should buy the guy a beer or 6.
I am a kayaker and a boater. That was just plain stupid to take your yak through that channel. He’s lucky to be alive.
Isn't this Boynton Beach Inlet?
Yes it is
Good Morning Wavy Boats 👋🚤
The bikes of the ocean 😂
Wow good 👍👍❤️
The guy who rowed the kayak just escaped from the god of death
We saw you out there today. We must have missed the rough waters.
Do they let swimmers in there too?
No Kayak should ever be in there. That's like allowing a bike path inside a interstate.
Well that is like saying your little car shouldn't be on the road cause it's hard to see, open your dam eyes and pay attention 🤷🤦😆🤣
Looks fun
Kayakers...the cyclists of the sea!
They have just as much of a right to the water as any other vessels 🤷♂️
@@couchpotatoes5158 Safety is always the most important thing though. Like a lot of cyclists, the kayaker was needlessly putting himself in a very dangerous area, where his life depended on others avoiding him. You might have the right of way, but that doesn’t mean shit if you’re dead.
That’s a Really… Good One ✅ I Had To Laugh
None Powered Boats 🔥 Have No Business In That Area
*Jet Skis
I think power vessels must yield to non-powered vessels, including sailboats under sail, except in certain conditions eg commercial fishing boats. I am a paddler these days but have owned 4 powerboats in the past, I have been nearly swamped by power boats…not fun at all.
I feel like I am the only one laughing about the two kids who jumped off the bridge at the end and were immediately arrested by the police 🚨🚨 lol
The reason why boaters should wear a lifevest even though they are excellent swimmers is because:
If you get knocked off the boat and hit your head and you're knocked out, you can survive with a vest because people can see where you are above the water and not below it. Wear a vest.
A quality kayak from Bavaria like the KLEPPER Sea Warrior, which is milled from solid steel, would have caused the boat to sink.
some nice churning Boynton waters. Go there with an incoming tide and strong east wind. Yikes
Looks like leaving the scene of an accident to me.
In some places they don't even allow jet skis or wave runners out in the inlet let alone a kayak
darn captain is just guilty of speeding and overtaking!
Any considerate sea fares would immediately stop and make sure that person was OK. I hope this coverage is handed over to law enforcement so they can deal with this idiot.
Hopefully the idiot in the kayak learned not to be in a channel like that.
the idiot is the kayaker = you play in the highway, don't get mad if you get run over.
100%
They knew they were in wrong and probably all intoxicated, the reason most leave the scene of an accident
I'm unfamiliar with boating. What exactly is the "law" to be enforced in this situation?
Mystery boat#2 is really the only boat that coasted the angles vs going head into the current.
Power boat skipper should have stayed on his side of the channel behind the other smaller boat. Very lucky Kayaker.
It’s a wonder collisions don’t happen here on a weekly basis. It’s whose got the biggest baddest boat mentality, just like it is on the road with vehicles 😳
Keeping a proper lookout in close quarters is a basic rule of the road. The Kayak was nearly sunk by the a hole in the powerboat- I wonder if he has an operator’s license- just kidding
You know what is a good idea. Let’s take a bicycle down the middle of a busy highway in oncoming traffic and expect cars to just drive around me. 😂
There are a million examples of the official Florida state boat, the CC, in this video😂😂😂
Yes Gone Back! They are responsible for their wake. 🚂
As a kayaker, this scenario can be quite possible when large boats, small boats and kayaks, or jet skis use the same waterway. The kayaker had a red flag and when I see boats come at me at full speed, I always take my paddle and wave it in a vertical stance to be seen. This situation is no different than people distracted texting, fiddling with a radio, or talking to someone on the phone in a car. I believe that the big boat's captain was distracted either by the other bigger boats, sea conditions, or his passengers and didn't see or lost track of the small kayak in front of him. I believe that the kayaker's boat probably sustained damage from hitting the cement wall and I believe that it would be the big boat's responsibility to ensure that the kayaker is alright and he should pay for any damages to the kayaker's boat. I would personally avoid busy traffic areas with large motorboats cruising through rough waters. If I was kayaking, I would move to a place where there is little or no traffic and enjoy the isolation, freedom, and safety. That's my opinion.
Probably intoxicated which is why he never went to check on the guy leaving the scene of an accident you create on water or Land in a car both are illegal🤷😉
I don't think people understand the scope of how sight works combined with waves and other larger vessels.
Kayaks literally just disappear from sight. If you have 4 large obstacles in front of you sometimes you miss a tiny kayak until it's too late of you just never see them at all.
It's like walking down the slow lane of a highway. Super unsafe.
@@magincap70that, and he had zero control of the kayak, the current had control. At what point does it become the person who put themselves in a very dangerous situation responsibility?
@@smelltheglove2038 I'm 100% saying the kayak is rolling dice with his life.
@@magincap70 no, i got it, I was posting in agreement.
I'm genuinely shocked at how few people wear vests while going through here
What a crazy place to kayak...like riding a bicycle on 95. There are so many other wonderful, chill places to paddle in SoFlo...Boynton Inlet?? Why??
Whats the speed rules in the US when you're that close to a seawall or shoreline? Most places here in Canada its 6knots within 100 feet or any shore unless posted slower.
While unenforced, the same exists in the US. With that being said, Florida’s east coast inlets are notoriously brutal. You have to do whatever it takes to keep your boat floating which is just one of the many reasons why YOU SHOULD NEVER KAYAK IN THEM.
If I had to kayak in there, I’d hug the shore very close.
this is a pinkfloid kayak... the wall !! 🤣😂😆
"Have a good paddle brother!" ... 10 minutes later.... that happens
Code brown moment for sure.
As a kayaker myself I'd see you later at the boat ramp so we could have a meaningful discussion about what just happened.
lolllll or maybe kayak in calm waters where hella boats arent headed out to sea
I get everyone should be considerate but a kayak there is begging for trouble. There's a fine line between victim blaming and avoiding situations in the first place. Should you get robbed walking around Harlem with a fist full of $100 bills? No. But should you consider the possibility of getting robbed? Yes.
Like it or not, the kayak has the same right to be on that waterway as any boat. Karma would be finding his boat sunk at the docks. This was reckless, irresponsible, and embarrassing to captains that take their craft seriously. Not stopping to take responsibility for the error just adds to the insult.
Dam kayak controller shouldn't of had his happy ass out there. That's like a Cessna taxi down a A380 taxi way
It's funny how people try and act all cool and relaxed until they go over the waves and get a bit of a jolt. Yes girl, ya look silly 🤣
The color of Kayak is ilea-gel in CT and kayaker would be cited as well.
So rule of thumb, in big waves like this you want to trim up, move people to the middle or the back of the boat and give it some gas ?
Why was the kayaker flying a Diver Down flag?
Because typically they are put on the surface to let boaters know divers are below and to stay back. He’s likely part of the dive team.
Because he's a huge Van Halen fan.
lots of great boats in this video. If I had my pick, I’d choose whatever those cops were using. Those guys always seem to get ahold of the very best equipment. It’s amazing what tax money can do😂
Most of the vessels are custom-made and built to handle rough seas with proper ballast. They are not the grossly overpriced plastic urinals mass produced by these supposed great companies like Contender, Grady White, Pursuit. It is a status thing amongst the sporties. The 110 ×26 beam×13 ft draft light steel longliner I run is powered by 2 12 cylinder diesels, 3 -10 kw generators, 22,000 gallon fuel capacity walk-in refrigerator and freezer 2 10 ton a day ice makers, etc. That vessel brand new from the shipyard was 875,000.00. Some of these plastic center consoles with a few egg beaters on the back cost more. I can steam over 4,000 miles without needing fuel. They are lucky to get 400 miles.
That was a close call. Is there a speed limit/ no wake zone in that area? It seems there should be. The problem started with the bigger boat passing the smaller so close too. How did that smaller boat handle the wake? I think the kayaker needs a taller flag and maybe stop playing in the channel. We have seen other close calls at Haul Over inlet with kayakers, wave runners and paddle boards. Slow down and be careful folks.
A no wake zone......LMFAO.
Dude in the Grady’s got more money than common sense and courtesy. Didn’t even go check on the guy. Might as well be a hit and run. We don’t need boaters like this on the water. As for the kayak it wasn’t too smart to be here either but on the other hand he has a certain level of rights to be there as much as everyone else.
Are you guys recording at point pleasant rn? I see ur banner 😂
ouch!
I have to say the boat captain should not be overtaking in an inlet and needs to be aware of what’s up ahead.
State & federal law is clear about boat wake responsibility.
The kayaker had a death wish
Some people do not belong behind the wheel
Thats like riding a bicycle on a busy highway, Kayaking is for rivers and lakes, not boating throughways!
Boats at fault. Should of checked on the guy but that's how the wealthy roll.
How do you know he is wealthy?
@@riding4beers889 Since the boat costs more than a nice home.
Caption was at falt. Kayaker had his flag and was passing on the right. But it was a very justifiable mistake. You take a risk overtaking another boat through the inlet. No one expects to see a small craft in those conditions
Yes absolutely they should have gone back. Right thing to do.
In FL, the general rule is that the larger vessel has the right of way. But the rule is also that unpowered vessels have the right of way over powered vessels. So it’s hard to say who really has the right of way here. I’m gonna ding the kayak for paddling down the middle of a busy, choppy inlet though. Regardless of right of way, that was not smart at all.
Also a law about displaying a river flag too, which the boat clearly ignored. Shouldn’t have been using that flag, but the boat still needed to stay 100 feet away from the kayaker in the inlet due to the fact a diver could have been under there, and the kayaker was support for the diver.
On the coast of Maine, where I'm from, we call kayaks "speed bumps."
Accidents don’t just happen, sometimes people make poor choices
Kayaker had no business being there.
I guess it would have been the boats fault if he hit him......but seriously wtf would you take a kyak in that busy inlet with all those boats coming and going? I honestly don't think the boat even saw him or figured that someone would be kyaking there tbh. Kyaks are for the backwater, not a busy inlet. Especially this inlet where it's narrow and busy with boat traffic.
The Captain is responsible for maintaining his vessel in a safe manner, no matter where he is. I was stationed in Miami as a USCG helicopter rescue swimmer and saw many boaters with an inflated sense of their ability, usally clinging to the capsized hull of their badass boat
@michaelmumford33 If they capsized their boat they must of really fucked up. I have a skiff in NJ off of the Mullica River and we don't see stuff like that in the backwater. There's a lot of stupidity with out of town people on the weekends during the summer season, but I've never seen someone capsize a boat (yet). I have seen a couple of those idiots run their boat straight up on the sod banks though...like texting while boating.
The in guy in larger boat I at felt. Passing boat two across causing a boat to swerve the kayak was I n the right had a dive flag out and was luckey
Looks like Boynton Inlet.
I’m moving back baby!
Shit may happen when people get bigger boats than they can handle but still have to pass others 🥴
They definitely should've checked on the man
No reason to be on a kayak there besides to get in the way
No reason for bicycle to be on roads but we have to look out for them because it's the law🤷
@@spankthemonkey3437 the kayak guys flag was faulty and wasn’t at proper height at the time of the incident. Plus he was never in control of his vessel, the current was. The boat never hit him, wake did, and because he never had control of his kayak he hit the wall. He was endangering himself and other boats by being nothing more than an obstacle.
I personally avoid any area where I know boats are gonna be hauling ass ... Or stay close to an edge... But then again I fish with my kayak and don't just joy ride
First on the near miss... Where's the Bow "FL" # ??!
Did couple at end get a ticket for swimming in inlet?

I hope he paid for the lost gear and damage to kayak....
