When I was 16 back in "95, my father took me to the local Ford store. He was there fully intending to get me a '95 Explorer Limited. When we left, I was cruising home in a '95 SHO instead. He was given a good deal on it, because it was literally sitting on the showroom floor for too long they said, and were getting ready to showcase the new '96 Taurus redesign. That's when the hideous ovoid shape was introduced. My brand new '95 SHO was fully loaded with leather throughout and power seats (the leather was tan, and the body was emerald/jewel green). I think that all of the options boxes were checked on this showroom floor model. It was a very awesome car. Powerful acceleration and a great engine growl upon starting it up. Unfortunately though, a very short time later my cousin got into a wreck with it. She said that it was hit broadside I think. She said that there was this bright fluorescent green liquid flowing out from underneath it. The airbags had not deployed either. My father had it transported to a garage for fixing. Since it was there, my father handed to me the keys to a new '95 Toyota Land Cruiser in Moonglow Pearl. After a few months, the SHO was finished. It was $15k to fix it 😮! Since I had the Land Cruiser already, my father donated the SHO to a charity of some kind and received some kind of tax credit. I did like my SHO while I could. The Land Cruiser was safer though. When I graduated from HS in '96, I was by then driving the new Lexus LX450. Cashmere beige metallic.
I have a 2016 SHO it's that mother of pearl white. I regularly go at high speeds with it... the perks of living in the middle of nowhere Idaho. For that reason i use z rated continental tires. Threw a air intake on it and a liver nois tune. Well over 400hp and livened this car up. Im currently looking at an exhaust now. We took it to Pheonix and back. Super smooth comfortable ride. It's priceless when you get guys in sporta or muscle cars asking whats done to it when you race them and they look over and you're still there with them 😂
The system IS permanent and actively applying power where needed, including 100% to the rear wheels if necessary. However, I think the point you were trying to make is that the default drive would be 100% to the front (i.e. FWD) if the system detected no need to transfer power. It also uses torque vectoring to transfer power side to side to side in addition to front & rear.
Just test drove a 2016 SHO with 30000 miles. Am I in the market to purchase a vehicle? No. It's rare finding one setting on my Ford dealer's lot, new or used. Having owned early generations of the SHO dating back to the Yamaha built engine. I just wanted to drive one. The price was originally at $40,000 (original window sticker was in the glove box since my dealership had leased the car new). They were asking $27,000 for an amazing new looking, loaded light silver with black leather SHO. I found the car had caught other potential buyers interest since I had to wait my turn for the test drive.. After my drive, I found it an amazing sedan. Powerful, luxurious, very comfortable, roomy and loaded with technology. I also found the blacked out grill and large tires and rims add a lot to the looks of the Taurus. If I was looking to purchase a used sedan. This SHO would be setting in my driveway. It's amazing how this engine pushes this large, heavy car to 0-60 in the mid 5s. I ran a couple cell phone timed runs, and it's 5.5 timing is spot on, at least from my primitive timing method. Ford needs to use this engine in an ST version of the Escape Awd. Hopefully it will find another home in the US when the SHO is no more.
The sho has it to where it’s automatic but you push a button on the steering wheel and you can put it in Manual and shift with buttons on the steering wheel
Best friend had a 90 SHO 5 speed manual back in 1995 . His brother had a 91 mustang GT and it could pull a fender on the GT between lights. That being known, we had alot of fun TROLLING unsuspecting GT owners in highschool lol
My husband's 1st car was the 94' SHO with said Yamaha V6 5 speed and he misses it so much he's thinking about getting a 2018 twin turbo with the paddle shifting

This car is so underrated..... I have a 2015 and it is amazing.... Buy a used one with a few miles.... For the specs n money u cant get better than that
very impressed w/ my mine, it was between a srt cherokee & sho. srt were all asking too much for used one. got the sho pp for 17 five @52,000mi . i love it, full size, fully loaded & full of performance. a true sleeper. i either get guys that ask wtf is this after i whooped that azz or they’ll say I know exactly what this is. all i can say is drive one, you won’t be disappointed. oh yeah, i whooped on a srt jeep twice💯
I was considering Cherokee SRT8, you can not find an SRT8 Jeep and Taurus SHO, same year same mileage for anywhere near the same price. SRT8 is always $10,000 or more than the Taurus SHO. The SHO really is a bargain for what you get.
I found a 2010 SHO non pp with 31k miles that I am buying for under 10k. It has every option. Other than some minor curb rash on a rear wheel/front edge of rear bumper (both will be repaired), the car is pretty much perfect.
I had a 5 speed 91 SHO with the SHO+ package....I let my wife trade it in for a Plymouth Breeze.....about a year later I found my SHO in the junkyard....Yes,we are still married.
Lonnie Wimble I have a charcoal grey loaded 15 with black leather interior. It's the Ecoboost. I've been wanting to find ways to make it 325hp like the sport but also don't want to void my warranty
THIS IS THER SLEEPER YOU ALLOW YOUR KID TO DRIVE IN HS. Yes he /she can get into trouble, but it is SO solid, at least the odds are with him, and he WILL gain respect which is sooo imprtant. Mine was a 67 Merc. Caliente Convert with the cyclone gt 390 pkg,. so I relish my "sleeper" moments of 'rolling glory"!!
The MKS is the better sleeper. With my tune I have 425 hp and 440 tq for $599.00 from LMS. You should see the looks on peoples faces when you just shut them down. 0 to 60 3.9
Nobody knows what the SHO is either, they are both total sleepers. Just waxed a kid last week in his little rice tuner, look on his face was priceless (he had his girl in the passenger seat too lol).

I own a 13’ SHO, but am I the only one that noticed the seat is off center to the steering wheel? My back is starting to hurt from always sitting sideways
you make some very very fine points. Here comes the but...I"m 6 feet and when I got into the driver's seat, I felt so cramped being the center console is so dam big, my knees banged against it. I couldn't live with this being so cramped. I couldn't wait to get out of this car. Funny enough, the Fusion has a bit more room and I was more comfortable. I ended up with the 15 Lincoln MKZ for about the same price as the Taurus. Equivalent power. I let the previous owner take the depreciation on the car and I got a Lincoln.
Did you know the car has powered seats and you can adjust them lol? I am 6'2 and a big dude, no problem. My wife has a Fusion 1.5.... its def does not have more room.
ready to change out from my 07 300C RWD which I loved as a “sleeper” road car. Looks like the 4th Gen SHO AWD is the next step so a couple questions- timing belt replacement is when and approx cost? any chronic problems with electronic dash glitching or AWD system? Nice vid... especially like the dash display of the roll-on power.
Owned a 2013 for a year - I totally disagree with "rear seat is vast" - in your video, when you pan right, it's a tight fit. The size of the car to how much interior space it had drove me crazy. It's the size of a damn minivan.
i have a 2014 police interceptor it has 22000 miles salvaged titled rebuilt with factory ford parts. it was a detective model all black leather it is not butchered. this car is like new 15,000$
Thinking about the SHO, key word is THINKING. It's a bit of a pain loading my girls all in the WRX, two car seats in the back is not too fun on a daily basis. My Dakota? Forget about it, the rear seat is useless other than being used for extra storage. We primarily end up taking the wifey's Audi A6 because it has way more space.
Good review! This would be a pretty nice car in Houston ( to the best of my memory, I’ve never seen a curve in Houston 😝), but at 4,000 lbs and that plush suspension, not so great here in the mountains of Colorado. Still a bargain for sure.
Itsalgud1 a boosted car will outdo an NA car in the mountains all day long. That's why they put an MKS up against Mercedes and BMW in a race up the mountain.
Randall Lane I’m well aware of the differences in horsepower decline with altitude between an NA car (about 4%/1000 ft) and a boosted one (about 1%), having owned both here in CO. Unfortunately, a car with Cadillac like suspension will simply not keep up with a car with properly set up suspension over Independence Pass. Of course, a boosted car with good suspension will leave them both in the dust!
I test drove one and it was good except for the visibility. I live in a city where people drive like idiots and having a car with less than ideal visibility was a deal breaker.
How does it look like your grand daddy's car? - this car look darn good-----------------It would smoke 3/4 of the midsize family cars out there " Avalon, Impala, Accord and even some of the high end cars...
my Cadillac DTS Performance does that and it is an 06 model with way less power. I shopped both of these cars and I went with the Caddy only because it rode sooooo much better.
chris lawrence Does what? Unless I'm misunderstanding (I'm big enough to admit I could be) the DTS would be a knife in a gun fight if you're talking performance.
I bought a 16 SHO with 2 years of warranty left and 11k miles for 24k. Starting price was 30k I walked out after test drive because they refused to go under 26k 2 days later they called me the car is setting in my driveway
I just bought a 2018 brand new Ford Taurus and it rides very smooth and it's very roomy and I did not buy the Taurus sho but I did buy the SEL model and it's great and a cheaper price now that it's discontinued

If it went like my granddaddy's cars you would have left an impression in the seat when you got on it... lol My granddaddy didn't believe in speed limits or cars that couldn't break them well.
What about the weak ptu? That was the main reason I did not buy one. If I would have bought one it was getting a livernois treatment... Which makes the issue worse.
As I was researching I saw a lot of people.posting about ptu failures. Most of them were stock. They also talked about the recommended service intervals we're to far apart and the oil is normally cooked. These were mostly daily drivers. This steered me away. I was set on a sho til that.
The SHO actually has a good rep for reliability. The later years the PTU has a drain plug, so you can change it easily like a rear end service. The PTU issue was an issue with all AWD Ford vehicles for a time. People didn't change the fluid because they are lazy and woth no drain plug, it was a PITA.
AVG Joes Garage That sounds reasonable for not buying one. I didn't come across that in my research & I'm happy I didn't. I've put 35k miles on mine in 18 months and it's been a fun 18 months. Thanks for clarifying, if anything happens I'll be back to share.

It's priceless when you get guys in sporta or muscle cars asking whats done to it when you race them and they look over and you're still there with them 😂
I have 2013 , Tuxedo black. It is a fun ride!
1:45 the AWD system is not permanent. The rear wheels engage only after the front wheels detect slippage.
Good review Sir. I'm no professional but I know plenty and agree the SHO is a sweet ride and tremendous value at that price!
2 things I'd change is the gauge package and offer it in a 6 speed manual. I own a 2016 SHO PP.
These cars make a world of sense on the used car market, good review.
local cop has a SHO..thing is no slouch either...i wish it had a manual tho
agreed I want a SHO but idk
manual with auto clutch.
*sad*
The sho has it to where it’s automatic but you push a button on the steering wheel and you can put it in Manual and shift with buttons on the steering wheel
Needs a third pedal if so it would be a hit 6spd sedan twin turbo awd SOLD!!!
Best friend had a 90 SHO 5 speed manual back in 1995 . His brother had a 91 mustang GT and it could pull a fender on the GT between lights. That being known, we had alot of fun TROLLING unsuspecting GT owners in highschool lol
Great review. I always thought the SHO has been slightly over looked and that's what makes it a great car. Diamond in the rough type of car.
Yep, I own a 13, and at 72,000 miles, it's still a rocket.
Always have been a huge SHO Taurus fan. Love the original with the Yamaha built V-6 mated with a 5-Speed transmission.
My husband's 1st car was the 94' SHO with said Yamaha V6 5 speed and he misses it so much he's thinking about getting a 2018 twin turbo with the paddle shifting
Current owner of 2010 Lincoln MKS, replaced rear camera, oil separator/pcv valve, brakes/rotors, tires. Need to replace ptu fluid and a/c blend/mode doors… not mad about it got it for $6900 with 118k miles
Add a $300 tuner for another 70 hp & 70 FT# badass
700 dollar tuner
Bill Massey where and what brand?
@@dannyb8022 loot of pep go with livernois
But I heard loot engin blow out lately
I was considering Cherokee SRT8, you can not find an SRT8 Jeep and Taurus SHO, same year same mileage for anywhere near the same price. SRT8 is always $10,000 or more than the Taurus SHO. The SHO really is a bargain for what you get.
I just got a white one, same miles, same price. Love It!
Goes nice with my 94 Mustang GT
I got a 99 mustang, your right they compliment each other
This guy is a little light in his loafers
I found a 2010 SHO non pp with 31k miles that I am buying for under 10k. It has every option. Other than some minor curb rash on a rear wheel/front edge of rear bumper (both will be repaired), the car is pretty much perfect.
Why didn’t you have it in sports mode I’m showing the acceleration?
This will be my next car.
Get it! I pulled the trigger on my ‘13 like 3 months ago and I do not regret it
I had a 5 speed 91 SHO with the SHO+ package....I let my wife trade it in for a Plymouth Breeze.....about a year later I found my SHO in the junkyard....Yes,we are still married.
why?
I had a 2016 sho.. I loved that car but I had issues with the brakes overheating and thumping.
I have been driving Fords for
decades. I'm 1 day going to get me a SHO. Some day.
Me too. I've always wanted one
I drive a Ford fusion now. My next will be the SHO
I have the 2017 Ford Fusion Sport. Makes the SHO obsolete.
Lonnie Wimble I couldn't afford the sport :(
Lonnie Wimble I have a charcoal grey loaded 15 with black leather interior. It's the Ecoboost. I've been wanting to find ways to make it 325hp like the sport but also don't want to void my warranty
From what I hear the Fusion Sport isn't as fast as the SHO stock. It's not much slower at all, like .1-.2 slower.
Akron Ohio You'd have to buy an old one. 2018 is the last Taurus thats gonna be produced.
I just bought a 2013 with 62,000 on it for 17000. Its black fully loaded black interior. Sweet car.
I got mine with 59000 for 14500
You should’ve had it in sport mode when you slammed the gas.
Hearing that price for that vehicle in 2023 is CRAZY
THIS IS THER SLEEPER YOU ALLOW YOUR KID TO DRIVE IN HS. Yes he /she can get into trouble, but it is SO solid, at least the odds are with him, and he WILL gain respect which is sooo imprtant. Mine was a 67 Merc. Caliente Convert with the cyclone gt 390 pkg,. so I relish my "sleeper" moments of 'rolling glory"!!
You also have to pull the Engine out to put a water pump on this type of Car. keep that in mind if you buy one if theses Cars
I love the Taurus but hate sitting anywhere but the driver's seat. :)
The passenger seat is ridiculously low. And mine's not power over there either. Lack of rear seat room but it handles great.
The Lincoln badge holds it back from being a sleeper
@@MoistChungus nah, that just makes it even more of a sleeper since the Lincoln name is known to be for older people (even tho I'm 18 and have a 2007 Town car) it just makes people more surprised since they think it'd be slower for luxury reasons
@@testy462 I just bought a Mks EcoBoost and all the older car guys wonder why I bought it then I ask them if they know what a S.H.O is and they all say yes, then I tell them it does 5.2 to 60 lol.
Siiic, I want a Taurus
It’s a better more understated vehicle then the Kia stinger which is basically the same class of car. A bonus it sounds better then the Kia
the new fusion sports have 325hp and 380 torque... with a 2.7 v6 twin turbo ecoboost and all wheel drive comes standard.. very fast car.... i snagged me a brand new one 2017 model year on a end of the year discount by far the cheapest price tag for the power and technology the car offers I have seen from any car maker ever.
Someone modded that used one too lol....blacked out front grill, blacked out rear chrome trunk trim, and it's lowered for sure.
i had one and no problems i had besides maintaining it but i got rid of it because it got vandlised and ima buy a new one
I own a 13’ SHO, but am I the only one that noticed the seat is off center to the steering wheel? My back is starting to hurt from always sitting sideways
Send this to my father in law, cause then i get to drive it on road trips!
you nailed this video , great job
Why was the strip at the back near the tail lights black instead of chrome?
you make some very very fine points.
Looks like the 4th Gen SHO AWD is the next step so a couple questions-
timing belt replacement is when and approx cost?
any chronic problems with electronic dash glitching or AWD system?
Nice vid... especially like the dash display of the roll-on power.
Did the 2013 already have lane assist sensors on it because the car you are showing has them
Do these have the truck motors? And do they have the same problems that the 1st gen 3.5 ecoboost has?
I like the dash and front grill of the 2010-2012 models.
Owned a 2013 for a year - I totally disagree with "rear seat is vast" - in your video, when you pan right, it's a tight fit. The size of the car to how much interior space it had drove me crazy. It's the size of a damn minivan.
Fully agree. I owned a Lincoln MKS turbo. Same as the SHO. The back seat didn't have much room
LOL I heard the dreaded " timing chain rattle " when he started it for the first time.
Beautiful car! A bargain by luxury pperformance standards plus reliability beyond anything Germany offers. #Fordperformance
This is my dream car but they don’t exist in Australia 😢
I'll trade you my Mks for a Falcon lol..
i have a 2014 police interceptor it has 22000 miles salvaged titled rebuilt with factory ford parts. it was a detective model all black leather it is not butchered. this car is like new 15,000$
Thinking about the SHO, key word is THINKING.
Not a grandma's car very masculine inside and out even the dash straight lines
I have a 2018 Taurus SHO on my Facebook marketplace with 92,000 for 13,500? Good or fair deal? Also it Same color as this one in video lol.
Can't drive in New York , cop cars.
I do think they're very underated tho
Every time I buy one the reverse camera glitches and everything is shown upside down. Other than that fantastic car.
I test drove one and it was good except for the visibility. I live in a city where people drive like idiots and having a car with less than ideal visibility was a deal breaker.
They are discontinuing the Taurus. It's about time for a refresh or a new large sedan.. Crown Vic? 500? 4-door Thunderbird??
How does it look like your grand daddy's car? - this car look darn good-----------------It would smoke 3/4 of the midsize family cars out there " Avalon, Impala, Accord and even some of the high end cars...
Good review, thanks!
Is the 2010 SHO reliable?
2:44 my grandma actually has a 2013 Taurus 😂😂😂
my Cadillac DTS Performance does that and it is an 06 model with way less power. I shopped both of these cars and I went with the Caddy only because it rode sooooo much better.
chris lawrence Does what? Unless I'm misunderstanding (I'm big enough to admit I could be) the DTS would be a knife in a gun fight if you're talking performance.
I wish i would have seen that car for $17,000. I have the SEL model, year 2014 n i paid $23,000 for it but it had 24,000 miles on it.
I bought a 16 SHO with 2 years of warranty left and 11k miles for 24k. Starting price was 30k I walked out after test drive because they refused to go under 26k 2 days later they called me the car is setting in my driveway
I'm buying a 2011 for Sonata money, best purchase
Great video. I've been looking for a modded sho
I just bought a 2018 brand new Ford Taurus and it rides very smooth and it's very roomy and I did not buy the Taurus sho but I did buy the SEL model and it's great and a cheaper price now that it's discontinued
A little tweaking and you got 450hp
Gotta watch the torque box, this isn't a 4x4
How you get 450 with what tune? Price?
@@famousbigwes9392 The best option right now is Gearhead All Octane tune -tune will continually adjust realtime to whatever octane you put in, i run 93+ but it will run great on whatever you've got or any mixture of 87 - 94.
You get the good datalogging tuner, New colder plugs from the raptor, upgraded map sensor, and upgraded thermostat, plus support from matt at gearhead who will look at your logs and continue to refine the tune just for your car. $800.00. Add good tires and H and R sport springs and just embarrass people who spent so much money.
All you need is the turbo upgraded to wake these things up
MotorSubdedTelevision less than that
The 570 Experience yeah there good cars
Even a good tune wakes them up.
@@The570Experience 570? As in NEPA?
Yes
If it went like my granddaddy's cars you would have left an impression in the seat when you got on it... lol My granddaddy didn't believe in speed limits or cars that couldn't break them well.
Note: the car is 4200+lbs. and the car he's driving doesn't have the performance package. This car has lowering springs as well.
The car in the video has the performance package
What about the weak ptu? That was the main reason I did not buy one. If I would have bought one it was getting a livernois treatment... Which makes the issue worse.
Weak ptu? How so?
I would still like to build one up. Still think one would be fun.
2012-2014 Hyundai Genesis R-Spec. Yes please.
Justin Kelly. Taurus with a tune beats the r spec
Donovan Tresch Didnt know we are comparing them modded? 😐
@@JustinKelly I wanted one instead of my Mks but I saw so many with horrible looking paint problems, you also have to put in a lot more then 500 dollars to get 90 pounds more out of a genesis, I'm sure it sounds good better then a v6 though.
YOOOO BOBBY!!!! I used to go to HS with him!
Just bought a 2015. ❤👍😉
Great performance, beautiful interior and exterior, but poor rear visibility.
I almost bought that exact car but Hyundai in humble never got back with me about it
Large sedan that’s funny. You should see a 1972 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight.
FYI, it's a gen 4 SHO, not a gen 3
Lol how many time are you going to reiterate you are "young"
