Does the new XPro II for Canon work correctly on the R5/R6 when using HSS and TTL simultaneously? The original XProC would default to full power when using HSS and TTL on the R5/R6. Godox acknowledged the problem but never came up with a fix. Hopefully this is it.
Yeah that was exactly my question also. Did ask on Strobepro site but the question has not been answered. And I do doubt they “fixed” the AF assist. Looks like the old system with red beam that works on dslr only.
Good News! We were able to test the Canon R5 with the XPROII and it functions perfectly with TTL and HSS. The AF assist however is still not functioning on the R5.

Very helpful and informative! Thank you for making this video. The only thing I was hoping you could cover is what AUTO means in Zoom. Rather than the 24-200. Thanks!
Hi @tocatlian, "Auto" zoom will try to closely match the field of view of your lens. Typically, you would only really want to use this feature with an on camera flash, but the controller enables it nonetheless. It could be helpful for a user who wants to run a flash on a camera bracket instead of the hotshoe.
What a cumbersome way to go to TCM!! What happened to the TCM button that you push without going into the menu to set it up for an individual light? TCM is very useful to shoot in TTL and then show a manual setting to work from there. It takes the place of a light meter!
I get the model to hold a grey card and zoom in on that, so it fills the frame. Fire a shot in TTL and then press the TCM button and start shooting. As you said, it replaces a light meter and is easier. It's literally fire one shot, press a button and we're ready to go. I'm surprised the guy in the video didn't really know what it's for. I wonder if we can tick multiple flashes to work with TCM at the same time. If not then this is a real step backwards.
Great video, thank you. Can you verify if the hot shoe lock has a new Metal foot and not plastic like the older version which is awfully tight to slide into the Sony A71v hot shoe. If metal does it slide into the hot shoe much easier than before.
New to Godox, In the video at 44:50, for Step, you mentioned the minimum power levels. I have the V1 Pro N flash for Nikon. Do you know what the minimum power level is for this flash? I cannot find that info in the manual. Thank you.
@@Strobepro thank you for such a thorough video on how to operate this flash. You made it easy to understand and put me more at ease with artificial lighting.
Not sure if I’m doing something wrong, but if I chose the 858 option, it turns off controls on trigger. Only way to change strobe settings is with the meter. That’s exactly like the old app. Option. Is there really no 2 way communication between trigger and meter?
Cool to see this thing finally updated. But big shame to see the issue with the rechargeable batteries is still there. Buying regular batteries just for my trigger is a pain! Pretty much my only gripe with the Godox system
If you want to use rechargeables, we'd suggest just ignoring the battery indicator. A good set of NiMH batteries is more than good enough for a day of shooting in our experience!
Great video....I received my Godox XPro II and my big disappointment was it did not come with a pouch and I was expecting it to tilt vertically so to see upright.
Bought a Xpro2 Nikon June 2023 and a V1. Work fine with the Nikon Z9 and Z8. Bought an AD 400 early April 2024 and the XPro 2 is not triggering the SD400 from the Z9 or Z8 . I had not tried it since updating firmware to 5.0 and 2.0. The XPro2 dose work fine with the D850. The V1 though some work fine on the Z9 and Z8 as a stand alone flash and works as a trigger. Firmware on the XPro2 is 1.0, I have not been successful getting the firmware update to work and it’s not clear if it will address the problem. The XPro is a very nice controller.
Thank you for sharing this information! It’s so difficult to find a good guide for Godox equipment, but now i found your channel and everything started to be simple. I would love to hear an advice from you. I’m looking for a good radio controller for my photography studio, where everyone has different cameras (sony, canon, nikon), so the question is: in this case I should buy several controllers for different cameras or there is an option where i can get one for everything?
Hello, first of all, thank you for all the content you share. One thing regarding this GODOX XPRO II, the modeling icon that usually appears at the bottom right does not appear. Why could that be? Thanks in advance and greetings from Spain.
When I turn on my XPro II, it disables my "Apply Settings to Live View" in my mirrorless Nikon Z6. This has been a complaint from Nikon users with other Godox triggers. This is fine when working in a studio, but while outside working with HSS, I like to see what the background will look like before applying the flash. Is this the same issue with other cameras? The workaround is to turn off the trigger, get the background setting, then turn on the trigger. An extra step, but it works.
Just watched this a couple of times as could not get 3x v860iii to continually change the setting from the Xpro ii It was the distance setting!! Now I just seem to struggle with the zoom settings working and checked they are all at 90 degrees with no deflectors on. Om Systems OM1 ?? Can I just add this video was a dream to work with though, thanks for the effort you have gone into 👌👌
Nice video. Thanks. I am using the old XPro for Canon, and as far as I can see the only new features are the bluetooth menu, the user menu and the hot shoe locking mechanism. I can get Multi mode from the old one, and a bunch of channels if needed. Also I like the availability of TCM by long-pressing the zoom button. When shooting in HSS most light meters will not work. I then use TTL and convert to manual via TCM.
You also get channel scan which is useful. The most important change for Canon users is the new hardware makes it possible for the Canon R5 and R6 and future mirrorless models function properly in TTL and HSS.
@@gosman949 As Strobepro Studio Lighting points out, you get a functioning TTL for the R5 and R6 with HSS, and you can set the power for the modelling lamp for each channel. These are the only differences between new and old. The new Trigger has the TCM function, but you need to go via the menu.
@@bjartewergedahl5824 but the TCM is specific to one light at a time. And it stays on all the time unless you turn it off via the menu. I want the TCM button back! The speaker is completely wrong. TCM is an important function that allows you to save time and subs as a light meter!
@@bjartewergedahl5824 Well I have it on order and hope is works with the Nikon Z cameras on TTL and HSS. It would be worth it for that. But I still want that TCM button!
The Adorama exclusive is not just a button change. It added many of the new features that this latest version now adds, including TCM, Bluetooth, Individual LED control, USB-C and much more. I'm sure this new version has some additional features, being that the Adorama version was released a couple years now.
When you review the Godox app, I would be interested in seeing it compared to the Flashpoint R2 app, which I find unreliable. Want to know if this controller is worth the app upgrade.
Thank you for the videos, it is helping a lot. One question though, I have the x2t and the V1 flash and I couldn't set it to work in high speed sync. Does it is posible? Thanks again.
Great video really handy. With the saved settings does that just save the settings for the lights or does it include all the other menu settings, HSS etc.
Great video ! Just 1 question for now . At 21:55 you go between Manual Mode / OFF/ and TTL by simply pushing the mode button. I’m having a problem and can only switch between manual mode and off. What am I doing wrong ?
the tcm function should be used all the time, as when light doesn't change, you want the settings LOCK that manual gives you, but the convenience of ttl to compute the exposure for you; so if, like a wedding photographer you go from inside to outside in the sunshine, then being able to 'assess conditions' and lock the setting in, ahead of time, so you just write down what each setting is, then it speeds up workflow.
This is a really good point. No reason to not have TCM on, as TTL will work normally, then manual will automatically be ready with those same settings when needed.
@@gosman949 I sometimes have events where I've got things dialed in manually for whatever venue I'm at, then may have to step outside or in another area of a building that is lit totally different and take a few shots with one or two speedlights, then immediately go back to where I was before. I only use TTL for those brief run and gun areas, then return to the place where I'm perfectly happy with the way I was dialed in before.
I beg to differ a bit (it wasn't all we need to know on this controller). Perhaps it is intuitive, but you didn't cover how to upgrade the controller if there was a firmware update (I just purchased this controller). There may be other videos or publications telling how to do it and the hardware needed. Since the video was this long, throwing that in would have been helpful. So, if you come back to the comments, what do I need and how do you update it?
I have two ad200's and the XPROIIL. I have never been able to update the firmware on the ad200 pro. I can only use it in manual. Is there a service somewhere that can help updating the firmware?
We'd usually suggest an on-camera flash that you can use for ceiling and wall bounces whenever possible. Generally, the most universally useful flash at an event is the one that follows you around. Flashes placed throughout the room would most typically be an addition to your on-camera flash. In some cases, an event venue may not have any usable bounce surfaces. Even then, an on-camera flash can be useful for filling from the front. Godox flashes have a radio transmitter mode and can function as the controller for other flashes. A controller could still come in handy if you set up any formal shots where you control the environment and can really use your off-camera flashes to their potential. It's just less weight to have on your camera whenever it isn't needed!
These controllers are strictly radio. and they are not compatible with Nikon CLS. Nikon's CLS system relies on an infrared signal. Some flashes from the previous generation (the TT685N and V860iiN) could send and receive the CLS signal, but Godox discontinued support for that feature on the V1N, V860iiiN, and TT685iiN. To adapt your Nikon flashes to Godox's radio system, you would need Godox's X1R-N receivers. I hope this information helps!
56:22 I wish they could somehow bring user settings to the main screen - I have scenarios when I'd want to have a one button switch between whole sets of lights and going into the menu (or toggling groups one by one the old way) for that would be too slow.
Thanks for all the insights. I have not used flash for 20 years and trying to set this up for my A7rv. Making progress but when I go to set the manual power all i get is "1.0" that then will go up it .1 stops. Does not seem to relate to power level or exposure compensation. Can anyone help?
I recently bought XProIIL for my Leica and XProIIO for Olympus and Panasonic. The TTL on XProIIL did not function with my Leica SL2-S and Leica Q2. I had to use manual control. The firmware version on my XProIIL is V1.1. Is there a way I can fix the TTL issues with my Leica?
I recently purchase a new X pro II N trigger. Everything is working fine in iTTL mode. My issue is when I switched to manual mode the unit isn't controlling my flash output. I'm using a Nikon Z9 with a Nikon speedlight SB-910. Im also using a X1R-N receiver along with my S Pro II -N. thanks for any help you can provide.
What function (if any) does a double press on the group buttons have? I’m hoping that it works as a quick way to switch groups on and off or at least a mode change
Thanks, you covered almost everything. For me Godox V860 iii minimum power is showing as 128. So it cannot go down further? Also you said Old style hot shue may work faster for burst shots. So does it mean we will not get the same speed if TTL and HS sync is turned off (which is a default setting) ???
Hi Vicky, Check the "STEP" setting in the controller's menu, and make sure one of the 1/256 options is selected. Use "1/256 0.1" if you want to control your lights in 1/10 stops, or "1/256 0.3" for 1/3 stops. We are a bit confused about your second question. Can you link a time stamp to the point in the video where we discuss this?
@@Strobepro51:41 When you say one of the reason you would use/on Legacy Hotshoe is that- it will help in maximizing no. of frames in burst shot, since TTL and High Speed Sync gets disabled/not supported in that mode. So here I just wanted to understand- with Legacy Hotshoe turned off, if we simply disable TTL (shooting in manual) and HS is also off. Wouldn't it give the same speed or we still can have better results in terms of speed with Legacy Hotshoe turned on? BTW thankyou very much for suggesting the settings, I tried that and now I can shoot at 1/256 as well 🙂.
What a great trigger! But, I have a Canon EOS R camera, how much I miss the auxiliary lamp of the autofocus! Maybe something could be done about it? You say not to put different types of lights on the same group, but can you fire two groups at the same time? In my case, if I'm shooting a large room, I frequently setup 2-3 speedlites around the room. If I have a subject in the fill zone of one speedlite, I only want to trigger that one. But if I have a subject kind of in between or a large group, I might want to fire all of them. Is there a way do that?
Hi Bobby, You can only use one channel at a time, but you can use up to 5 groups simultaneously. I hope that clarifies it! Lights put on seperate groups can be managed seperately. Lights put on the same group will all use the power setting applied to that group. When we suggest putting different lights on different groups, we are talking about lights of varying maximum powers. 1/1 on a speedlite is not the same as 1/1 on a 600Ws strobe, so you would want to manage those two lights separately in almost any situation. If you have two or more identical lights, there are situations where it will make sense to have them on the same group. For example, let's say you have two identical speedlites lighting a background from either side. Assuming you always want your background lights to use the same power setting, having them on the same group simplifies that for you.
Any ETA on that Bluetooth video? I just ordered one of these from you guys and I can't see the device in the Godox app or even in the list of BT devices available for pairing. Are we going to be stuck waiting for them to officially announce it and make a page for it and then release a v1.1 firmware?
Hi @paigeofstylez, You would need to purchase an X1R-C receiver to adapt the Canon flash over to the Godox radio system: strobepro.com/products/godox-x1r-c-strobepro-xrc-radio-receiver-canon Let us know if you have any other questions.
Thanks for a very informative video. I am new to the Godox system, and have recently gotten the XProii L to use with my Leica SL2 S. I don't have the SYNC option in my controller. I have ALL, ZOOM and the modelling lamp. Do you know why this is?
Hi Ole, I believe your sync functions can only be controlled through the camera menu on a Leica, so that's why this function is missing. There are small camera brand specific differences that are present on the various versions of this controller. Hard to cover in one video!
I am able to fire the flash with the test button on my trigger, but not through the camera shuttter. Am I missing a something or have it on the wrong settings? Shooting with a Canon 5d Mark IV.
Will these fire the Neewer Q3 strobes? I have the trigger for them but I'm just curious. I shoot cars for a magazine and use 3 Gododx ad600s but I am getting into the neewer Q3 200ws strobes simply because they are easier to transport.
Neewer had sold some rebadged Godox equipment in the past, but the Q3 appears to be a different make. You will likely need their proprietary controller. The Godox AD200 Pro is a little more expensive, but it is a more time tested product that will save you from having to mix radio systems. The AD200 Pro also has quite an ecosystem of accessories.
one observation, at 12:32 you have the trigger on a shoe adaptor on a light stand, does this work for triggering to, aka if you put this onto an MF camera's cold shoe (and use the PC Sync cable to fire the flash)? as most hot shoe accessories are 'shorted' when put on a cold shoe, as they have terminals on the shoe, does this new trigger account for this?
Hi @HoAnhTuan-hn2hg, Leave this setting on "trigger" unless you are using an X1R receiver to remotely fire a camera. The "shutter" setting causes the test button on the XProII to become a 2-stage button-half-press to focus, and full press to click the shutter. If you bought this controller to trigger flashes, you don't need to worry about this feature.
Can we do multiple lighting setup say 3 setup with total 6 lights in one place, but each setup had different power and so does the picture output. And then we trigger it with single shutter press and the camera will take 3 frames simultaneously. And what is that feature called? I've seen it on some channel with Bronco or Profoto lights. Can Godox trigger and flash do that?
Hi Rizky, There's no way to automate switching between different lighting setups. You do have some save slots where you can store and recall your group settings, and we cover that function at 55:16. The only other thing that might kind of resemble what you are talking about is the "Mask" function that is available on some Godox light. This function can be used to toggle when a flash fires (for example, on every second shot). It is accessed in the menus of the lights that support it, and not through the controller. If I missed something and you want further clarification, just let me know.
Good News! We were able to test the Canon R5 with the XPROII and it functions perfectly with TTL and HSS. The AF assist however is still not functioning on the R5.
53:48 Can the *controller* notify me (by light and/or beep) when all strobes are ready to fire? (I don't want individual strobes to beep. I'm not near the strobes, and I don't want to try to count the different beeps to figure out when all strobes have beeped. I want the controller to beep once all strobes are ready. Of course!)
The Godox strobes are all so fast at recycling now that it would honestly take just as long to look down at the light to know they have recycled. Even the slowest Godox strobe now is only 2 seconds at full power.
The XPro II takes three times as long to set from 1/1 to 1/256 as version 1. It takes me 6 seconds rotating the wheel. On the XPro I this is done in two seconds, easily. I use the [C] version. So what's the problem if it's only a few seconds difference? Well, I'm often shooting fast action with strobes and I change the settings hundreds of times during a shoot. Is there some setting I missed? Thanks!
@@StrobeproI can't get the new one to be as quick as the old one. I tried all settings, also the 1/10 and 1/3 stop setting but the new one is slower whatever I do. I stopped using it and reverted to the old one. I'm going to investigate if it's a broken unit is some way.
Couple of questions for you Leica Q2 Monochrom users, I just bought a Godox X Pro 2 to trigger my AD-600 flashes, here are the Questions: 1) using M mode, when I dial the shutter speed to 1/125 sec, the picture on the LCD becomes very dark, I do not know where or how to turn the LCD “setting effect” to OFF like on the Sony cameras. 2) I cannot set Godox XPro 2 to TTL, only Manual or Off. There were quite a few inaccuracies and even some plain wrong info. You'd think Strobepro should know their own equipment. For example ~ @41:10 he says that only the new Xpro-II has that extended number of groups (going beyound A to E) when in fact the original Xpro also has that exact same feature. It would have also been helpful to explain to inexperienced users that once you set that extended number of groups it's bye-bye TTL on any group. There are also a couple other things but I'm too lazy to write.
Yep, you're right. After 40 minutes of talking about custom functions with no script, that one slipped through and is on the original. Seeing as less than 1% of people use that feature, I don't think anyone will be buying the controller specifically for that. We will make the correction. Thanks
Do you ever have any problems with Godox misfires? I recently started using several battery powered Godox flashes , 200’s and 400’s, with my Nikon camera, and I’m missing shots due to the controller or flash units sleeping. Really painful. Ever have this problem? And what is the solution?
the most obvious fix is to turn the 'battery saver' timer off, and the standby timer to off, otherwise you just have to flip the unit on/off/ on to wake it up, Don't worry, most of these keep the last settings in memmory, so this shouldn't reset the trigger to defaults.

Great presentation. Answered all my questions. Thanks!
Really great, helpful, video thank you. 👍
New to Godox, In the video at 44:50, for Step, you mentioned the minimum power levels. I have the V1 Pro N flash for Nikon. Do you know what the minimum power level is for this flash? I cannot find that info in the manual. Thank you.
Hey @rachelg7371,
Minimum power on that flash is 1/256. :)
Great video....I received my Godox XPro II and my big disappointment was it did not come with a pouch and I was expecting it to tilt vertically so to see upright.
excellent video. very clearly explained
Amazing! Thank you for this video!
Glad you liked it!

@@crazor01 but I want TTL and HSS! This will turn those features off! No can do!
Thinking of getting this. I already have a x2t but the larger screen and tcm is very inviting.

Can I just add this video was a dream to work with though, thanks for the effort you have gone into 👌👌
THANK YOU!!!
Great tutorial.
Nice video.
Do you mean to tell me there is not TCM in this new trigger?

Great..BUT will this fix the HHS not working with the PANASONIC LUMIX S cameras?
All my Godox from AD200PRO to 850II don't work in HHS with the XPro I
1:32 Thank you for pointing that out. I was wondering if this is the same triggers that Adorama labeled as R2 Mark 2 and it is NOT.
The Adorama exclusive is not just a button change. It added many of the new features that this latest version now adds, including TCM, Bluetooth, Individual LED control, USB-C and much more. I'm sure this new version has some additional features, being that the Adorama version was released a couple years now.
How about any new version of X2T ?
Thank you for the info!
Any time!
good. Perfect, Thank you for all
Would love to see a demo of this controller used in conjunction with the Godox Flash app 📱📸
Coming soon.
Let me know which camera/controller you are using. Instructions for enabling HSS can vary somewhat.
Thanks much, awesome job!
Great video really handy. With the saved settings does that just save the settings for the lights or does it include all the other menu settings, HSS etc.
Thank you so much!
Very usefull.
No reason to not have TCM on, as TTL will work normally, then manual will automatically be ready with those same settings when needed.
but you have to set in the menu which strobe you are using. What if you have two different strobes firing?
Some of us would rather leave the manual setting where it was before so that it is the same when we come back to manual mode from TTL.
@@michaelclark9762 I don't see that happening. We always want TCM after TTL. Otherwise just leave it on manual.
Thanks for this video. Does the Godox XPro II works fully together with a Nikon SB5000 and SB800?
I don't have TTL as an option when I press the mode button. I am using a V1, a V860, and an AD200.
So I signed up for taking photos and videos at an event. Wondering if I should just use my flash on top of my camera or should I buy a trigger?
Does the Nikon version work with Nikons CLS?
If not why not , I use a V1 plus a SB800 and a few SB600's.
The CLS uses the camera's pop-up flash. You could use the CLS or the Trigger. Not both.
Does this canon version of this new trigger have the electronic contacts for the r3 and r7 ?

does the 'legacy hot shoe' allow the trigger to work on a cold shoe as well, eg for leaf shuttered film cameras, where only a cold shoe is provided?
What function (if any) does a double press on the group buttons have? I’m hoping that it works as a quick way to switch groups on and off or at least a mode change
Hi Jason,
Confirmed that double-pressing a group button toggles the group between off and its previous setting.
Thanks a lot for the chrystal clear walkthrough explanetion!! Greetings fron Dallas, TX.
You're very welcome!
Hi Vicky,
Check the "STEP" setting in the controller's menu, and make sure one of the 1/256 options is selected.

Hi Bobby,
You can only use one channel at a time, but you can use up to 5 groups simultaneously.

Thanks for a very informative video. I am new to the Godox system, and have recently gotten the XProii L to use with my Leica SL2 S. I don't have the SYNC option in my controller. I have ALL, ZOOM and the modelling lamp. Do you know why this is?
Hi Ole,
I believe your sync functions can only be controlled through the camera menu on a Leica, so that's why this function is missing.
Can I use GODOX XPROII-F Fuji for my Nikon in Legacy Hotshoe mode if I need only center pin?
Yes you can. You just won't have HSS and TTL.
My guess is that the only thing that won't work is TTL functionality. I regularly use the Pro remote in my hand with the older X2T on my Hotshoe.
*can you explain "shutter fire flash" with remote?*
Hi @HoAnhTuan-hn2hg,
Leave this setting on "trigger" unless you are using an X1R receiver to remotely fire a camera. The "shutter" setting causes the test button on the XProII to become a 2-stage button-half-press to focus, and full press to click the shutter. If you bought this controller to trigger flashes, you don't need to worry about this feature.
Can you do this same exact video with a canon in 2024
We'll consider doing a more in-depth guide to cover all of the brand-specific differences.
Hi Rizky,
There's no way to automate switching between different lighting setups.
On the Canon version, is TTL with HSS fully functional now with mirrorless? I know that was an issue on the original version.
I'm waiting to hear about that too. The original XProC defaulted to 100% power when both HSS and TTL were used on the R5/R6.
Would love to know that also. It’s crucial.
Good News! We were able to test the Canon R5 with the XPROII and it functions perfectly with TTL and HSS. The AF assist however is still not functioning on the R5.

No. Communication is only one way. Controller -> lights. Nothing is being sent back so no way of doing that.
@@joejones392 That's unfortunate. Then it's not for me. Thanks for letting me know!
The Godox strobes are all so fast at recycling now that it would honestly take just as long to look down at the light to know they have recycled. Even the slowest Godox strobe now is only 2 seconds at full power.
@@Strobepro Surely that depends on the batteries in some cases, right?
The XPro II takes three times as long to set from 1/1 to 1/256 as version 1. It takes me 6 seconds rotating the wheel. On the XPro I this is done in two seconds, easily. I use the [C] version. So what's the problem if it's only a few seconds difference? Well, I'm often shooting fast action with strobes and I change the settings hundreds of times during a shoot.
Thanks
@@Strobepro No, I enjoyed the video overall. Thanks for the presentation.

the most obvious fix is to turn the 'battery saver' timer off, and the standby timer to off, otherwise you just have to flip the unit on/off/ on to wake it up, Don't worry, most of these keep the last settings in memmory, so this shouldn't reset the trigger to defaults.
