6:22 - Woh! An on the run, down the line missile. Warwrinka cracks the ball with incredible amounts of speed, spin, accuracy, and power. One of the greatest backhands in the history of tennis.
06:22. That is one of the most amazing one handed backhands(Wawrinka) I've seen in a long time. One of the reasons why I wanted to play one handed instead of two. Amazing.
@@nighttrain7404 Oh gotcha. I thought you were talking about the shot itself, since you cited it as "one of the reasons" why you play 1hbh instead of 2hbh. I'm a 2hbh of over 10 years, and I tried learning a 1hbh recently (influenced by Wawrinka). It's tough.
totally agree, that is the best camera angle shows exactly what they are dealing with and the spins they face each point. So tough, to get behind each and every ball. These guys are true athletes with amazing ability and super great body motor skills. I could watch this all day
its surprising how you look at it from the highlights view and angle, and when you look at this video, you can clearly tell how spinny those balls are, I can't imagine if these pros are applying these spins to the ball...imagine what Nadal's forehands are like, one second the ball bounce its already out of your strike zone.
Talk Tennis brought me here.. ) Thanks for the video! Great to see practice videos like these. Best camera perspective this way. From behind you can really see the speed.
While there are so many things that I like about Wawrinka's game, my favorite quality is his grit and will power to not give up in the era of the Big 3. He had some soul crushing losses (I cried with him), but used those to fuel his determination to come back stronger, physically and mentally. His 3 majors are an unbelievable feat at the time of the 3 best players ever to play the game...as a bonus, the sound coming out of their racquets on this video is quite something. Like a supersonic plane breaking the sound barrier!
Man you just can not beat the court level view. It seriously puts a totally different perspective on the level of play the pros are at. I wish this was the predominant view in TV matches.
That's for sure the ground level shows you what's really going on. And how mostly smooth their groundstrokes are and the footwork and preparation. The commentators are paid to hype up the game for the general audience so the like the above action camera cause it makes everything look faster.and they can scream about good shots that suddenly become "unbelievable." Lol
i love stan's back hand as much as the next person its an amazing shot but the reason why Djokovic's backhand is the greatest becuase double handers have better returns and are a lot more consistent and he on top of that hits with depth and amazing angles
A good one handed backhand will always be better than a good double handed backhand. More variety more range and power is just a matter of rotation of the core.
Hernan Balzaretti haha, ill give you that, but he did play out of his mind. I think that both shots are of equal standards, with their own benefits and drawbacks
The fellow is a natural athlete with much fluidity in his strokes. On the date I post this he's ranked 56 at the age of 38. Tennis has a huge mental component. If anything is off, there can be reticence in turning up the power. Part of Stan's remake has had to do with trusting his power. Feliciano has had Federer like finesse as a tool to rely on and perhaps too much so in compromising opportunities for unleashing backhand top.
stan says at 0:43 " je t'éclate a chaque fois alors ta guele" translation : "I destroy you every time so shut the fuck up" ... probably said to lopez ....
FloX795 a ce rythme d'échauffement il pourrait discuter des heures en jouant. Je te rassure : ) c'est sa voix sur a 100% il devait surement avoir une bonne raison pour :)
Wawrinka: destroying Lopez Federer: Hey, he's mine!! Wawrinka: No, I have the better backhand! Federer: nahhh, I have a better serve, volley, and forehand. Me: *Let's play doubles*
Nam Than I would not say that. Perhaps in this video but in a real match, it is big defensive shot that makes him stay strong in a rally. Like Australian open 2014 again Djokovic
vojta škrla yup. very true. i definitely see what you are saying after watching more matches from wawrinka. usually his slice does stay pretty low. a lot lower and doesnt sit up as much in this video!

I want to be able to hit that kind of a shot
Honestly the one handed is the most artistic shot after the serve
It was a great shot, but what does it have to do with being a one-hander? A player with a two-handed backhand could pull off the same shot.
@@DeeeFoo its completely a style preference. Not saying you can't do it with two hands.

I think the only problem is that you dont really sea the other side
its surprising how you look at it from the highlights view and angle, and when you look at this video, you can clearly tell how spinny those balls are, I can't imagine if these pros are applying these spins to the ball...imagine what Nadal's forehands are like, one second the ball bounce its already out of your strike zone.
Amazing athletes with very strong minds
the sound of the racket hitting the ball is amazing !!
I've learned a lot from his strokes...thankz Stan!!
Both players are really elegant in their tennis. A feast for eyes.
well said
those cakes are a feast for my eyes
The amount of topspin he gets on his backhand is astounding.
Good technique makes it easy

Two of the best one handed backhands i've ever seen, nice practice

Would love to watch TV matches at this low angle more often.

Thats exactly what I post for that reason
Others will say Djokovic has the best backhand in the game and I can see why. However, Wawrinka backhand is still my fave...a thing of beauty
I like Gasquet's more, but yes, Stan's backhand is a thing of beauty.
Alberto Blasi I also like Gasquet's one more but Wawrinka's backhand is better
i love stan's back hand as much as the next person its an amazing shot but the reason why Djokovic's backhand is the greatest becuase double handers have better returns and are a lot more consistent and he on top of that hits with depth and amazing angles
TLC Yeah, Stan's is way more consistent than Richard's. It might even be more powerful lol.
SBTennis Worldwide I'm pretty sure Gasquet can hit a more powerful winner than Wawrinka. I don't know about average power they generate
Outstanding video to easily visualize all the hitting techniques ...
wawrinka is the honey badger of tennis
Well said ;o)
they make it look so easy
thing of beauty from both players!
7:59 that is such a useful defensive forehand to have.
The most entertaining player to watch.
A good one handed backhand will always be better than a good double handed backhand. More variety more range and power is just a matter of rotation of the core.
Tell that to Djokovic and Murray
BackpackVlog Tell that to Federer
Tom Middleton I think wawrinka already did in Roland Garros hehe
Hernan Balzaretti haha, ill give you that, but he did play out of his mind. I think that both shots are of equal standards, with their own benefits and drawbacks
+Tom Middleton and Fognini
i love very much one handed backhand players
Essa é a minha inspiração diária, uma das melhores coisas a se fazer nessa vida, jogar tênis, melhor ainda com os amigos. Leo Mesquita.
Anyone know where I can get a shirt like Wawrinka's in this video? Just a simple yonex sign in the middle like the one he's wearing.
wow perfect backhand Wawrinka
5:38 -- full closed stance to go cross court. Old school. I still like that play for cross court.
I have never seen Lopez play this many BH topspins in a match! Usually he goes back to his trusty slice.
You right he didnt use it a lot, sad lol. But I still like him he seems pretty cool to talk hahaha
His backhand is more stable than that of Wawrinka in my opinion. He doesn't flick his wrist too much on the end
After winning chennai open stan won Australian open, Killer shot 6:22 6:38 backhand
Nice solid, fluid strokes, not the flippy floppy mess that youth players tend to have these days.
It is so clean
6:20!
Wow love the sound the balls makes when really good players hit it the right way
I can watch this 5 hours in a row easily
We're all talking about Wawrinka's BH at 6:22 but how about that little piece of skill from Feli at 7:48
what foerhand grip does stan use?
semiwestern
Lopez dare not to hit his backhand in official match. It is a pity because he has a good backhand.
+johnny chiou he knows his backhand is his weaker shot.
johnny chiou Lopez doesnt have good back hand... thats why he slices a lot.. he has great serve though

Very nice to watch
テニスしたくなってきたー!
Does wawrinka has the extreme forehand, so that he curls his hand so much, that the palm looks up at the strike.?
No Wawrinka hits the ball quite flat
+Magic FuckBus so does he have semi Western Le Western?
Dose lopez play with a 27.5 length racket ? Anyone know?
was using 27.25 inch Wilson BLX Pro at one time
I always knew there was something weird about his forehand...now I see! That is the strangest motion and grip ever.
cool video ! i felt like i was facing him!
stan says at 0:43 " je t'éclate a chaque fois alors ta guele" translation : "I destroy you every time so shut the fuck up" ... probably said to lopez ....
It wasn't Wawrinka..
FloX795 for sure it was ! I know his voice ! : )
Points start at 4:26
Damn Wawrinka's backhand is so good
Stans is great But Feds is just a thing of beauty and genius that they have all based their own backhand on ,
That backhand!!! Also what kind of grip does Stan use for his forehand?
Ramy G Semi Western like Nadal
Wawrinka: destroying Lopez
Federer: Hey, he's mine!!
Wawrinka: No, I have the better backhand!
Federer: nahhh, I have a better serve, volley, and forehand.
Me: *Let's play doubles*
CRISP !
Lopez actually plays decently good.....in training.
Guess training is the one thing, but what counts is the actual match.
Nono Bonon
Wawrinka backhand better than Lopez backhand
I would say more, Wawrinka's backhand is much better than Lopez's forehand
lol
@@trilfy Laughing with you kkkbro...if they only had a clue.
Wawrinka has the power Federer never did. Wawrinka will never have the elegance and style Federer does.
0:30
is it just me or does wawrinka's slice tend to float a bit....
mymama12314 for a 1H BH player he does have a pretty bad slice
Nam Than I would not say that. Perhaps in this video but in a real match, it is big defensive shot that makes him stay strong in a rally. Like Australian open 2014 again Djokovic
vojta škrla yup. very true. i definitely see what you are saying after watching more matches from wawrinka. usually his slice does stay pretty low. a lot lower and doesnt sit up as much in this video!
He's warming up easy at start so he floats backhand. Probably when he start getting down he floats them as a defensive shot or neutralize
Lopez performance in competition is a lot lower.
ザ現代テニス
great wawry!!!
Never knew Stan had such a nice backside until this video. I already knew about Feli Lopez's though.
This dude has no idea what he is about to achieve in the 2 years ahead....
This is a better backhand than Gasquets. Its more solid and hit with less of a flourish at the end of the stoke...not as elegant as Edbergs though
it doesn t need to be,stan has his own style
well that is debatable, but Wawrinka is overall a better player
wawrinka probably sweats more in 1 practice than the average American in a year. :(
GREAT... DEDICATION..PRACTICE...N.....FLUIDITY....
He does have a tendency to hit his forehand a bit late though.
.ㅣ
Lopez hits better.
