    I purchased the 350DD with the 3/4 hp motor. I'm glad I read the comments on this thread because the gear box was empty on mine. I called Kushlan and they recommended 6-8 oz of oil. They also claimed the gearbox would sometimes be empty because the oil would evaporate in their hot warehouse. I had to laugh when I heard that explanation.
    I flipped the carriage bolts on mine and there is plenty of space available. I'm thinking that will help prevent cement sticking in the bottom while mixing.
    Mine has orange tires that do seem to be flat free. They have grease certs that I lubed.
    I haven't mixed any concrete yet but it does seem to be a good mixer. It doesn't say where this was manufactured, (probably China) but I can probably weld better than the person who assembled this. Nevertheless they should hold.

    Thank you for this video. We bought the half horsepower concrete mixer, a couple years ago and just pulled it out of the box today and start putting it together. Thank you again for this video.

      We've got a couple of traps set up inside the Toolshed. They'll either get caught in a trap or get plastered in the walls for all eternity.

    I have that exact cement mixer. Works great! Only downside is the switch is not as easy to operate as just unplugging the extension cord. So thats How I turn it on and off.

    Check the gearbox to make sure the factory put oil inside. Mine was empty and would of self destructed after only a few uses. There is a hex plug to check oil. 4 oz of 75w-90.

    • @theupsideofdownsizing
      @theupsideofdownsizing  4 роки тому

      Mine too! Home Depot replaced my unit and I called the manufacturer to verify no additional lubrication was needed, as per instructions. The customer service representative said, "well....you might want to check it just to be on the safe side". I checked it and yes, it was empty! The company should just say add gear oil if they can't get it together in the factory.

    • @peternardone3669

      I just bought this. How do you check the oil and add more, if necessary?

    • @theupsideofdownsizing
      @theupsideofdownsizing  3 роки тому +1

      On the great box is a plug about the side of a dime. I'm going from memory but I think it takes a regular slotted screwdriver to open it. Should it be empty, you'll need to get 90 weight gear oil from your auto parts store. Walmart also carries I believe.

    Down here in mexico we do mix concrete and cement on the floor with shovel. 2 people team up to 4 to 6 (42k) sacs at a time.. four buckets of sand and 4 of gravel per sac...good cardio..for a chalan.

    Bill - I like how low it sits to the ground which makes it easy to pour into a mold (i.e. adobe bricks for my home). I was going to buy the Harbor Freight one but you changed my mind. Thanks!

    I would flip those cairrage bolts around asap. With the bolt end sticking inside the mixer, it will make cleaning it out much more difficult. And switching them around later once thay are encased in cement will be pretty annoying.

    • @theupsideofdownsizing
      @theupsideofdownsizing  4 роки тому +1

      That's what I thought too, but if I turn them around, the rotation of the barrel will cause them to hit the motor mount. We're using earthen plaster with about 5% Portland cement so clean up is a snap.

    Nice unit but a little too expensive for me, I've been using a Harbor Freight mixer for the past three years with zero issues at a considerable price difference. Being on a fixed income I have to watch my purchases. Thank you for sharing.

    • @theupsideofdownsizing
      @theupsideofdownsizing  4 роки тому +2

      No one is on a more fixed income then us....fixed at zero😉 I know what you mean....I thought about this one long and hard and being a Harbor Freight fan, made the decision even more difficult. Harbor Freight 179....and you gotta get the warranty makes it about $210 with tax. Ours was on sale for $354 including tax and when you buy it at Home Depot and have a Pro Rewards account (highly recommend it, costs nothing) you have a 12 month return window. But each person must decided for themselves what their spending priorities are.

    What kind of generator did you use?

    • @theupsideofdownsizing
      @theupsideofdownsizing  3 роки тому +1

      To run the cement mixer, we used our smaller 2200 watt inverter generator made by GE. It starts super easy and is very quiet.

  • @TheBigfoot567
    @TheBigfoot567 4 роки тому +1

    Not to be a "correcting caren"....but it's actually a "concrete mixer".
    Cement is just an ingredient of concrete. (Sand, gravel, and water the rest).
    Like calling a cake mixer a "flour mixer".
    I know, everyone calls concrete "cement".....It's just my years in const mgmt that makes me a stickler, I guess.
    This will be a tremendous time, and labor, saver for y'all.

    • @theupsideofdownsizing
      @theupsideofdownsizing  4 роки тому

      Well, then to be brutally correct, it's an earthen plaster mixer since that'll be the cake mix going into this time saving machine 😉🍰

    • @mx5reddwarf
      @mx5reddwarf 2 роки тому

      Yup....18 years in the redi-mix concrete and block manufacturing business (think redi-mix trucks) and still drives me up the wall too. If that is a "cement" sidewalk it's going to blow away in the first brisk breeze! Once the portland cement, aggregates (gravel and/or sand depending on the mix design), and water are combined, it's "concrete", even before it hydrates, sets, and gets hard. Notice that the bags you get at the big box store say "concrete mix" not cement mix.

    Get a second cheap mixer and put that mesh on it and let it run as a trommel to sift the soil.
